I wanted a simple DVD player for my bedroom - and because it was only going in my bedroom I really didn't want to spend a fortune. I had previously had an Alba DVD player in my room - a very very cheap one that I was really impressed with as it cost me less than £20.00, but as with many cheap products it didn't last an eternity. So, having looked on Amazon, I came across the Samsung DVD H1080 Player - and have to admit that the reason I predominantly chose it is because I liked how it looked. The Samsung DVD H1080 Player cost me £44.99 from Amazon and that included postage and packaging. When the device arrived, it had everything in it that I needed for immediate set up and use. I didn't need to buy any cables separately - or even have to buy any batteries for the remote control. Setting it up was very simple and the instructions that were included were easy to follow for anyone who is not technically minded. It did come with a years warranty, but on Amazon you could opt to increase this to 3 years for around £10.00 (although I didn't take this option). The DVD looks snazzy and it looks different to the typical oblong design of most DVD players. The is instead a curved design and it oval shaped and looks like something a little more space age or something that you might make a toasted sandwich in! It was entirely black with all lettering / logos in white so that the contrast makes it really stand out. It looks very sleek and sexy and it's one of the best designs I've seen to date. It's also not very big so it doesn't take up loads of room and can just be slotted somewhere quite unobtrusively. The DVD player works well and I have nothing to complain about. The disk slots in the front of the player and inserts and ejects smoothly. Loading is never a problem and I've not had any problem with discs sticking - something which was an issue occasionally with my Alba DVD player. It is simple to use with all of the usual functions of play, stop, pause, fast forward and rewind. The remote control works well and the device is very responsive to it as long as there is nothing blocking the direction between the control and the DVD player. It doesn't do anything fancy and so if you want something that does extra things other than just play the DVD then this isn't for you - but for my purposes it's just perfect. Overall, I can recommend this DVD player for anyone who wants something that looks a bit more modern and who just wants a simple DVD player. It was a good buy.
Ive had this product since the last world cup was on, as i bought a new tv, & you were gettin this for £59.99 (saving £30) at the time, I couldnt wait to get home & get everything set up, (i really am easyily amussed) & couldnt believe it was touch sensitive, i wasnt too sure at first thinking it would no doubt be alot more technical but it really wasnt and i was pleased, overall look of dvd player is fantastic, its smart, a great size & not like normal players as its in a circle shape - perfect if its needing to fit somwhere small & looks alot better to. In the box was the dvd player itself, the leads & a perfect sized remote. *I have never had a problem with this product, untill this morning when i went too put it on for my son & the touch sensitive part doesnt seem to be working, as i have 2 young kids i cant say if it was them or a fault, but it still works through the remote so not a problem :) Dvd player can play DVIX soo this was a big selling point for us aswell, & i would strongly recommend this product.
Samsung a name I felt I could trust, a name I had bought into a few times in the past and found every thing to be of the best quality. This is the Samsung DVD H1080, I bought this for my self and also for my family last Christmas, as I do tend to buy electronics around this time of year as I like to have something new in the house to enjoy on the big day. I always buy it early December as I don't want to have to be setting it up on Christmas morning, by that time I want to be familiar with it. The thing that really caught my eye with this particular DVD player over others was it's looks. This is a very unusual, modern almost space age, futuristic looking machine. It sits like a highly polished stone right beside my large screen TV, my very expensive large screen TV. And all everyone seams to look at and comment about is this player. At fist glance you'd think this was going to be a very expensive device, but I got this on sale for only £45. For this I got a great looking DVD player that up scales the DVDs to a good quality 1080p. I know everyone will be thinking isn't 1080p the best resolution available at the moment? Isn't that the resolution of full HD? It is and it isn't. Yes 1080p is the highest and yes it is full HD, but the words "up scaling" is the main difference. Blue-ray is true 1080p while this takes a standard definition DVD and "enhances" the picture to mimic that of a blue-ray. It does not succeed. If you, like I have, play an up scaled DVD in "1080p" and on another device play a blue-ray of the same movie in true 1080p, the difference is undeniable. This beautiful, polished pebble does however make DVDs look better, brighter, crisper and sharper than they would look on a standard DVD player. Of course in order to enjoy this up scaling of your movies you will need a HD READY TV of at least 720p resolution to mimic that true HD effect. This function works automatically once a HDMI cable is connected, there is no difference in how long a disc will take to load just because it is being up scaled. I found this to be one of the quickest and quietest machines when it came to loading a disc. It literally takes less than five seconds from the moment the disc enters the player to the time it is ready to be played. The disc tray extends out from the front of the player and returns back inside with a very smooth mechanism. There are a selection of touch screen-like buttons on the top of the unit right above the disc tray. It's a little unusual that there is no display at all on this player, all information is displayed on screen as you navigate through the easy to use and understand menus using the simple to control remote. The remote is small as you'd expect as the unit itself is so compact. I find the buttons a little too close together and a lot of the time I find myself getting frustrated when I intend to press one button and end up accidentally pressing another. This is most annoying when I jump forward a chapter in the movie and see something that totally spoils the ending. Other than the fiddly remote I can't find anything wrong with this great value great looking "FULL HD" DVD player. Thanks for reading :0) 2night.
I bought this for myself a while ago now because I was fed up of using the cheap rubbish one I got from Argos. I am so glad that I choose a reputable brand as this DVD player is excellent! The DVD player is very stylish, and looks modern as it is in a sort of circular shape, unlike the ones that seem old which are in a rectangular shape. It has a glossy finish which makes it stand out from the rest. The player is black with a Samsung white coloured label on top. The buttons on the box are all touch which makes it blend in and contrast better which give the box a better look as a whole. The only thing that I do not like about this DVD player after about a year of using it is that the control is very small. Recommend ? About 2 days after I purchased this DVD player my parents stopped working, as it only cost £50 I recommended it to them. They were extremely overjoyed when I told them about how good the quality was they thought they would get one too, so I headed out to Currys and bought another one for them. Thanks for reading! I hope this has been of interest to you and has helped assist you in your decision.
I bought this Samsung DVD H1080 in the middle of last year when I upgraded my TV to a new HD set and got Sky HD to go with it. I thought I might as well complete the set by getting a DVD player with HD features and not knowing much about DVD players, I had previously had my player for quite some time, so pretty much bought the first one I saw. The first thing that appeals to me about this device other than the technical details is the way it looks. My whole TV stand is black and all the accessories on it are too so I wanted something that matched them. Secondly, the size of the device was handy as my Tv stand like I am sure many others are, is packed anyway so being small it works well in my unit. Plus at around £50 for the player, given the performance and general quality inherent here it is well worth the money! The main feature though was the way in which this device upscales DVD's to 1080p thus giving you a high definition feedback. Is this noticeable? Of course it is. Watch DVD's on a normal player on a HD TV and then use one of these players and you will notice a huge difference. The device performs some of the bets up scaling I have ever seen and it has enhance my viewing quality and means I get the most of out my TV and DVD's. It does all these without any slowdown in speed or extra loading times too! It connects to the TV via HDMI cable and being part of the anynet range gives you such an easy connection to a Samsung TV as I have. Its quick and simple to set up and gives you excellent feedback. The whole machine is silent and runs smoothly with a front opening tray. You can also control the device via touch buttons on top of the unit but mainly its going to be the remote you use. There is no LED display, thus no clock, timer, progress or anything...everything is done on screen via the remote and it does take a while to get used to all the options and ways to do things. The remote is small and useful, but almost too small as I keep loosing it. Nevertheless it has all the functions you require without taking up the space of older remotes. Also on handy feature people may use, but I don't, is the usb functionally meaning you can connect USB devices and play videos and music etc which some people may find handy and I must admit I haven't ever seen on a DVD player before. Problems....only one fault with mine. If I stop a DVD to change channel it knocks the DVD player off and takes a good 30 seconds to get back into gear. It places the DVD in the place where I left it as it has some sort of memory built in there but sometimes this comes back on with subtitles which is odd and thus I am forced to turn them off! Other than that minor issue I have been fully satisfied with this player and have found in terms of quality, value and all round performance it has been more than worth the money! Also on CIAO
I received this DVD player this Christmas. My previous one was a cheap and cheerful Philips version, which failed me in the space of six months, so I'd asked for a reliable (thus, more expensive) one to replace it. I received the Samsung H1080 DVD player, and here is my review: -PACKAGING- The DVD player is packaged in a compact way to prevent movement and damage upon transit. There is a reliable image on the front with all product information etc. The standard DVD packaging! In the box, you have: The DVD Player, Remote Control, two AAA Batteries, an AV Cable, User Manual, Quick Start Guide and a Warranty Card. -DESIGN- The first thing that struck me about this DVD player was the unusual design. Instead of a box, this was circular. It begs the question, why do DVD players come in square/rectangular boxes if the actual DVDs are round!? Samsung describe is as the "pebble" and in my opinion it makes it ultra stylish and modern. The DVD player is black with a white Samsung logo on the top and white detail for the buttons. Its glossy finish gives it extra brownie points! It would be perfect against the traditional black television. The DVD player is quite small - roughly 28cm across - which is excellent in terms of storage space and especially good if you like the minimalist look! The product is very lightweight too. 5/5 -REMOTE- The DVD player itself has touch sensitive buttons, which is brilliant, but if you're lazy like me, a remote control is supplied too. Much like the DVD player, it is small and concise. Not good if you have big hands or limited eyesight! I have lost it so many times due to the sheer size of it! 4/5 -PERFORMANCE- The picture quality from this DVD is near perfect. I have a small Sony LCD screen to use it on, and find both the sound and picture quality brilliant. I am not sure how many pixels you can get with this because it varies depending on which medium you plug it into (e.g. HDMI or USB). The DVD player is quite easy to set up, but there are instructions should you need them! Nothing complicated. I was impressed at how fast the machine will fast forward if you need it to, anything from x2 to x64 which was a real bonus if you want to skip out the ads! 5/5 -EXTRA INFORMATION- You may need to buy a separate HDMI cable with this DVD player, because it is not supplied in the box. These can be picked up pretty cheap off Amazon and Ebay though. You can make this DVD player region free - which is great for watching overseas disks. The code to do so is listed below: 1) Turn on the DVD player with no disc in it. 2) On the connected display you will see the "no disc" message 3) Key in the following keys one after the other - Repeat, Fast Forward, UP, DOWN, STOP and RIGHT. -PRICE- As I said, I received this product as a gift, so I can not comment on what price it was picked up for. However, you can get the DVD player from Amazon.co.uk now for £44.44 (free delivery) which is a steal for such a good DVD player! Alternatively, you can buy it from electronic retailers such as Currys, or large supermarket stores such as Tesco. -FINALLY- I love my new DVD player! If you want a quality, stylish product with a unique design you must buy one. It is so cheap to get nowadays too, especially as this is from a quality brand! Thoroughly recommend it. I give the DVD player 4/5... it has its faults, but overall, a lovely machine!
If you are looking out for a bit of style and something a little different to the bog standard shape of a dvd player then the Samsung H1080 could be right up your street! At first glance, the H1080 appears very modern indeed and often that means complicated set-ups and lots of buttons and menu's to navigate - not with this model! Not only have Samsung designed an object of beauty, they have given the user the ability to set it up very easily with clear, concise instructions both on-screen and through the user manual. Also, the H1080 has 3 touch buttons on the front of the player making it simple to just pop a dvd in and play it immediately with minimum fuss. This dvd player has the added ability to play cd's and the USB slot at the rear of the machine allows media or a USB stick of music, perhaps, attached to play your own music collection. The remote control is equally simple to operate - the whole package is simple to use. At around £45 I would have to say this is one of the better players around, although there are many more players offering loads more features. I would say this dvd player is targeted at people that are less 'tech-wise'. Positively, the dvd player is easy to clean with its sleek lines and this helps as the high-gloss finish isn't the easiest to keep clean usually. On the downside there is very little to say. Perhaps the remote control could have larger numbers and pictures on it and those with poor eyesight will struggle to see the buttons but this is a minor point. I think on the whole this dvd player is superb value for money and you will struggle to find better style for this price.
Another great piece of hardware from samsung, this HD dvd player is small, very pleasing to the eyes and very easy to use. A little expensive however but the quality is superb. Plugged into a Samsung HD TV with a good HDMI cable and its like a home cinema. The only extra this i'd recommend as a good 5.1 surround sound system to complete the home cinema experience. 3 touch buttons on top make it simple to use. Has the abilitly to play CD's. A USB slot in the back allows dvds or vidoes or music to be play with ease by just plugging in to the back and using the small but very easy to use remote control. The cicular shape makes it different and eye catching, a deffinate must item to impress the guests. Will connect to a normal tv if you haven't yet upgraded! An excellent buy.
I was given this by my lovely (yet technology hoarding) uncle and immediately thought 'oooo, pretty'. I generally like Samsung for their simple, easy to use products and this is pretty much in keeping with that. However, the shape and size of the DVD player itself is very awkward for someone who has a portable television on top of a chest of drawers. It's pretty small, about the size of two DVDs laying together (not in thickness) but you can't really stack it. (I know, I know, you shouldn't really be stacking appliances, but who doesn't?) It does look lovely, really modern - but like it should be made more of, I generally just have DVDs sat on top of it, kind of taking away it's modern touch. The touch screen feature again is really nice and modern, but it's slow. Perhaps this is just for me - but sometimes it takes up to ten seconds for the tray to actually come out, and sometimes not at all. Leaving you awkwardly waiting to see whether it's a ten second wait or not at all, often pressing it again and getting the annoying open and immediately close thing. Aside from appearance - this little player is my only appliance that does not take a SCART lead, meaning an extra cable (and an extra purchase for some). There's a USB port (again hidden around the back with the cables - furthering it's nice appearance, but a bit awkward for my cramped chest of drawers), which let's you play music and such off a thumb drive (and rip music off CD I believe, though I haven't tried that yet) which is something I personally haven't come across before - but don't really need anyway as I do anything music related on my computer with perfect ease. The remote is dinky! It's a hand held number taking the usual triple A's, again pretty simple, with easy to get power, eject and enter buttons. The actually quality of the DVD player is great, there's a lot going on to bring you high quality watching (okay, I'm not so sure what, I'm personally not a DVD player buff, but I know there's a lot notching up the quality - even on my portable telly). I personally found it was more of an attractive thing, that was wasted in my room, and the extra features, though really good, were also wasted on me. But even purely as a DVD player, it's very good quality, and quite a bargain (at around £50).
So if you are like me you have probably amassed quite a large collection of DVD over the past ten years or so, and don't fancy buying them all again on Blu ray. So what can you do to get a better quality out of them so they do your nice HD telly justice, here's one solution. This DVD player allows full 1080p up-scaling for your DVDs; this means they look better quality than they are, but not Blu ray quality. This stylish box which is certainly original looking does an especially good job of this. The unit is quiet and reliable, it is quick and full of features. I bought this product for my bedroom and its small size allows it to fit on smaller tables than many other players. However due to its "pebble" shape you can't stack on top of it like you would on most other players. This is kind of bad as this has to be on top of all your other equipment or on a separate pile. The black smooth design looks great and fits in with most modern designs, but its design is eye catching enough for people who visit to go "what's that?". The remote control is pretty bog standard, it obvious what all the controls are for. Its as stylish as a remote can be and its small enough to not get in the way but big enough not to get lost. This particular model is part of Samsung's Anynet+ products which allow them all to sync together for better control. The player also acts as a USB dock which allows content from external USB devices to be played through the player. This means video, picture and music files are all accessible on your TV. Also CDs can be ripped to MP3 for your compatible player to store. All in all this is a great little player which goes above and beyond what it needs to do, but then again any Bluray player worth its salt will have these features anyway. This players biggest strengths are its looks and its features, which is a good thing because the picture quality is never going to stand up against blu ray, so the feature help.
Add a touch of unique style to your entertainment area. The DVD H1080 has sleek curves and sophisticated Touch of Color rich, red accents. This lightweight, compact DVD player also upconverts your DVDs to 720p, 1080i or 1080p. That translates to crystal-clear high definition movies. It also plays the most popular multimedia formats like DivX, MP3, WMA, JPEG and MPEG-4 clips. Think out of the box and add the statement-making Samsung DVD H1080 to your entertainment ensemble.
