      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Second hand its one to snap up, for the £400 tag I'd not be so sure

This is a really nice snare. I picked one up a year ago second hand and its done me well.
Sound wise its pretty versatile I've had it tuned fairly high and deep with consistant results. One thing to say is it is very loud, I don't notice this so much playing myself other people have commented. I'd say this is an advantage mainly especially for gigging if you can't be sure of getting mic-ed etc. My one criticism of the sound might be that it doesn't have perhaps that much of its own character. Equally though that may be the flipside of having a versatile sound suited to most styles.
The build quality is excellent and the whole thing weighs a ton! Comes equipped with snare tension adjustors on both side which means not only can you get a perfect even tension but can also mess with having it tight one side, loose the other which gives an interesting sound.
Lastly I should mention the free floater concept. Basically all the hardware is attached to a machine grade aluminium ring and not to the actual shell at all. Whether this makes any difference to the sound I couldn't tell you because I don't have another brass drum to compare. It does however mean you can buy an equally sized maple (or any other material) shell and just slot it in giving you a new drum for a fraction of the price.
Basically this is a drum that if you see it second hand is one to snap up, though for the £400 tag here I'd have reservations.
