My daughter is a little bit obsessed with Tangled. And why not? It IS after all one of the best films to come out of Disney in a while. But, as usual, there is justifiable complaint that maybe, just maybe, that they have gone a tad (just a tad mind you) overboard with the merchandising....
This is just one of several supposedly different Rapunzel dolls you can get and is priced at £48 currently on Amazon. That seems a lot and I am sure we didn't pay that much when we bought it....still, we have had it a while now.
The first thing you notice, when you finally manage to remove this doll from the packaging, is that it doesn't stand that tall. The second thing you notice is that, because of the weight under the dress, it is not free-standing. And that weight comes from the attached equipment that enables Rapunzel to sing.
She sings? That's right but don't get too excited and let me tell you why. She sings two lines. Two lines. The same two lines, I might add, repeatedly every time you wave the wand over the doll. By about the twentieth time I heard 'And at last I see the light...' I was about ready to scream! Imagine hearing this constantly then for about three hours!!!
This doll is very pretty, colourful and a good likeness of the Rapunzel character. And when you wave the wand over her dress and the colours light up, it is a little bit like magic ~ especially for my young daughter who is still obsessed with seeing Rapunzel's dress glow, months after she first got this doll. I t is just the repetitive two lines of song that does your swede in and I personally am very disappointed that you don't get a little bit more for your money. A couple more lines or a bit of the chorus is all I'm asking for.
Overall, this is an average buy at best and not worth the hefty price-tag. My daughter loves it, as I imagine all little girls will, and does not pay attention to the fact that it repeats itself so I suppose it is a good buy. But fellow parents, you WILL despair of this and its limited, repeated two lines of song very quickly so think about it seriously before you bring this into your house!
So i purchased this for my 3 year old daughter for xmas through argos which was on 3 for 2, if there wasn't an offer on then i probably wouldn't have bought it. The doll is lovely and very well made, and it does actually look like the disney character. It comes with the magic wand which you sweep down rapuzels body to make her sing, as with the other review it does only sing a couple of line and with this doll costing £30.00 i was expecting the song to be longer. If you do mis place the wand then the song can come on when you press the flower by her neck which i think is a good thing as my daughter is forever losing things. The hair is very long and can get knotted quite easily and I found it pretty strange this doll didn't come with a brush as she is all about the hair! I think this is a good purchase if you have a disney princess fan your little one won't be disappointed.
My daughter has been Disney Princess mad for the last four years but since her arrival in 2010 it's Rapunzel who's come top of the list and become her favourite. For her Seventh birthday in December there was one toy that she wanted...the Sing and Glow Rapunzel Doll. Having a Christmas birthday has many pluses..there's plenty of stuff about to choose from. The downside though is unlike the rest of the year everyone else is also buying the same things for Christmas presents and it proved a bit of a struggle to find one of these. At one point they were even selling for twice their RRP of £29.99 on Ebay! Not willing to do that I kept checking every toy retailer on the net, until I eventually managed to reserve the last one of a delivery in my local Argos .
The Sing and Glow Rapunzel Doll is a 32.5 com doll closely resembling Barbie in size and style. It has long hair, as you would expect from Rapunzel and wears the same gown as she does in the movie. It's selling point however is that it comes with a magic wand which when waved across the front of her makes her dress light up and the doll sings one of the songs from the movie.
The first thing I noticed as the assistant in Argos packaged my purchase was it's size. I have to be honest and say that at almost £30 I was expecting a bit more. I immediately felt I'd been a little short changed and hadn't got a lot for my money. But as this was what my child had asked for, I put this feeling aside and wrapped it up ready for the big day.
On her Birthday, my daughter was ecstatic to find the Sing and Glow Rapunzel doll and opened it straight away. Once again I had the feeling that I hadn't got much for my money, but undoubtedly I could see it was pretty high quality. The dress she wears is detailed and pretty and the hair is far superior to any Barbie's...after being played with almost constantly for three weeks and being took to bed it still isn't tangled and knotted, and is a joy to play with.
Luckily the doll comes with batteries already included, but should you need to replace at anytime takes 3 AAA so not a huge problem. Ours was ready to go straight away and both of us were keen to see the lighting up dress and sing along with her. My daughter waved the wand and immediately the dress was like a pretty firework display and drew ooohs and ahhhs from us both. The singing was also impressive. I was expecting a tinny, annoying sound but it's incredibly clear and high quality...sounding just like the music in the film.
But then just as we got going with 'And at last I see the light...' it stops. The doll only sings 2 lines with every wave of the wand ...and it's the same two lines over and over again. Now my daughter hasn't mentioned being disappointed at this but I am. I've checked other online reviews to ensure we weren't doing something wrong our that it wasn't a fault but every review makes the same complaint. For the price I think the least we could have been given was an actual full chorus, maybe even a selection of lines from songs. Again I felt short changed.
Despite my adult complaints my daughter has expressed nothing but pleasure with this toy. The only thing that has damped her enjoyment is the fact that because of the lighting system in the dress, she can't take it off the doll. Now like all little girls the thing my daughter enjoys most about her dolls is dressing and undressing them and I think she has found this a little frustrating. Not enough to for her to turn her back on it, but in my opinion it is a very fundamental oversight on the part of the manufacturers.
Overall I'd say both my daughter and I's experience with this toy is just ok. There's little doubt she loves it, I just feel that it could have been so much more very easily by allowing the dress to be removed and adding a little more singing. The price tag doesn't match the product and is over inflated in my opinion. Had I paid around £20 for this, I think I'd have been happier and that would have been a fairer price. On the plus side it is a very nice quality, particularly the hair of the doll and there's a button that also activates the lights and singing should you misplace the wand (something I expect will happen quite easily).
