When my (now) five year old daughter was younger she was a massive fan of In the Night Garden and adored every single character in the show, this meant Christmas and birthdays were no problem as there were (and still are) a plethora of character products to choose from. This plush Upsy Daisy doll was one of the first things she received and she still takes her to bed now (among other toys which actually take up more of the bed than she does). This isn't the talking Upsy Daisy and is a simple soft doll, I do love toys which talk and sing but sometimes find it quite refreshing to buy something that will encourage Hollie to use her imagination rather than toys that do it all for her! Upsy Daisy is roughly 10" tall, which is on a par with the majority of soft In the Night Garden toys and looks pretty much identical to the character you see on the television. For such an inoffensive little thing, this Upsy Daisy caused a bit of a furore when she was released due to the fact that her skin tone is much paler than the character on the show - Upsy Daisy is a black skinned doll on the television, whereas her dolly representation is merely suntanned in appearance! This was deemed to be an insult by the black community and various minority groups, as well as an irritation to white people such as myself who felt slightly cheated at the colour difference - although I believe Upsy Daisy dolls now have a darker skin tone, albeit a couple of shades darker with still not much similarity to her television persona! The hair on these Upsy Daisy dolls doesn't translate well, in keeping with the ethnic slant she has multi-coloured locks but these tend to look silly on the dolls - although are totally fab when watching Upsy Daisy going about her jovial business on the tele! I love how well the doll has been stuffed and over the course of almost four years Upsy Daisy has lost none of her shaping at all, her neck has always been slightly on the floppy side but this is true of other Upsy Daisy dolls so I wouldn't say it's a specific problem with this one - my mum fixed it with a few cleverly placed stitches and now Daisy's head sits nice and straight on her shoulders. I love how chunky and well stuffed her legs are as in her stripy tights they remind me of chubby baby legs, and I do love baby legs! The doll Hollie has features arms which jut out straight from her sides, but a friends little girl has a slightly older doll and that one has floppier arms due to a poorly stuffed join where the arms meet Upsy Daisy's torso. I'm glad Hollies isn't like this as it makes the doll look extremely tatty and badly stuffed even if the body is done well. All of Upsy Daisy's clothes are attached to the doll and are non-removable, even the filmy skirt which appears to be detachable isn't - something I'm extremely grateful for as frankly I'm sick to the back teeth of finding body-less dolls clothes all over the house! These days Upsy's main purpose is as a bedtime companion, and she's absolutely perfect for this role. Because she's doll shaped (as opposed to teddy bear shaped) she fits in Hollie's arms perfectly when it's time to snuggle down and go to sleep, and because she'd completely soft bodied there's no irritating (and heart attack inducing!) crash when Hollie invariably chucks her out of bed when she's in a fidgety sleep mood! The softness also means that Hollie isn't going to inadvertently hurt herself while sleeping with Upsy Daisy, even if she rolls on her the worst that can happen is that she'll get a bit of a sweaty face through sleeping so close to such a synthetic fabric! This particular Upsy Daisy is suitable for babies of twelve months and above, which is useful as this is around the age they'll start taking notice of the mildly hallucinogenic In the Night Garden television show. It's a very soft doll with the face and body having a light fleecy feel so it could be a highly comforting toy for a young baby in place of a comfort blanket, in relative terms however it's quite a large doll (I mean relative to the size of a tiny baby) so I wouldn't want to put it into the cot with a child younger than twelve months or even a child OF twelve months if they were small for their age. This is mainly because I'm a total worrier about my babies accidentally smothering themselves when they're asleep that I don't tend to put soft toys of any description into bed with them until they get to around two years, but obviously the choice is yours. I highly recommend this very basic Upsy Daisy plush doll. It's cute looking, has become a 'friend' for Hollie and is just an all round excellent choice for any In the Night Garden fan - she even goes through the washing machine successfully on a cool wash and dries absolutely perfectly, there's not many character toys you can say that about (Peppa Pig in spacegirl suit, I'm thinking of you!).
Upsy Daisy here I come, I'm the only Upsy one. My little girl received this lovely little toy as a gift from one of her friends for her second birthday. Upsy Daiy is a character in the children's television show, In the Night Garden. Her friends ( well, technically their mums know that she likes In the Night Garden so it was a nice toy for her to receive) Upsy Daisy is a really nice character and not as weird as some of them on this show. She likes dancing and is described as a happy, confident, optimistic character and loves to sing and dance. She is best friends with Igglepiggle, the blue character! This character lends herself well to a soft toy/doll because she is actually a doll so she looks exactly the same here as she does on the television show which is nice. The toy is lovely and soft and made of a really nice plush material. She's very soft and cuddly and easy to clean as you only need to wipe her with a damp cloth to get any food or stains off. I wouldn't recommend putting her in the washing machine as I'm not sure she would come out as nice. The plush is quite short and close to the surface but still nice and soft. Upsy Daisy is lovely and bright and wears very pretty clothes. She has quite a full red skirt with white bits on it which looks like a flower with petals on it, very cute and fitting for Upsy Daisy. She has has little felt flowers printed on the bottom of her feet which I think is a nice touch. The flowers are little daisies so it goes with her name and character which is nice. She also has a daisy on the waist band of her skirt so I like how her character and dress incorporates her name too. Her top is orange and has stripes on it and she has her normal crazy hair which I think is cool. Her hair is basically just little plush strands in all different cool colours that really makes her stand out. Her legs are bendy so you can make Upsy Daisy sit or stand and you can also make her dance by jumping her up and down which is one of the things my little girl likes to do. A cute toy for Upsy Daisy fans.
My daughter turned 3 last month and got lots of lovely new toys. She is a fan of In the night garden and watches it on Cbeebies every evening which means it's bedtime. For anyone who hasn't seen In the night garden: ============================== In the night garden is a very odd children's programme aired on the BBC children's channel Cbeebies and BBC 2 in the morning. As an adult I find it very disturbing to watch. Whoever writes the story lines and characters must be high on drugs. Upsy Daisy has a bed which follows her around, Iggle Piggle is a blue "thing" with a blanket and Makka Pakka walks around pushing a scooter and washes the other characters with his sponge and soap.....yes, washes them. Upsy Daisy 11" plush doll: ========================= This soft toy is a replica of the character on the programme. It looks very similar to her (as some doll looks rubbish and nothing like the character) and they have done well to get the resemblance right. I'm not sure where this was from or how much it was purchased for as it was a gift (along with iggle piggle and makka pakka). I am not such a fan of these dolls. They are quite creepy to me, but for children, they love them. Hollie started watching In the night garden when she was about 6 months old. She loved the bright colours and the characters wondering around the garden. This plush doll has a few parts which have been badly sewn. The skirt hem is fraying away and her back has stitches which are loose and too widely stitched. If Hollie were to be too rough with it and knock the stitches I think it's stuffing would start to come out. The rest of the doll is well stitched and not an issue for fraying or falling apart. As you can see in the photo she is wearing the outfit she wears in the programme (if you've never watched it then you can take my word for it). Her eyes are embroidered on and her clothes are all part of what makes up the doll. Her skirt is sewn on and flows down her legs. She is constantly in a sitting position which is slightly good for when Hollie is watching the programme, she can sit down with it. Thanks for reading Helen190390
This upsy daisy is one of the very many teddy's/soft bodied toys my daughter owns. She has a huge liking for these cuddly figures despite us trying to sway her onto a different type of toy as our dog also favours the soft and very chewable teddies! There have been countless incidents when we have returned home to find one of our daughter's cuddly toys missing an arm or leg. He tries to pretend it's not him but the fluff attached to face is always a big giveaway! The upsy daisy toy is actually one of the few that he hasn't sunk his teeth into yet. As a precaution we have moved the cuddly toys to the bed room and my daughter sometimes chooses this one to go to sleep with. She has so many she takes it in turns each night with her favourite teddy's to be fair on them all, if they don't receive the privilege of her bed, she tucks them up nicely in a toy cot and reads them a story before bed. The upsy daisy toy has got a 100% soft body and is made from a light material that is suitable for the age range given of 12 months +. My daughter received this for her 1st birthday and was able to carry it around in her pram without dropping it because of the weight. The doll is 11" which again is perfect for the age. It was just the right size for her to hold and take around with her everywhere. The toy is decorated to that of upsy daisy on the television programme. The outfit on the toy is the same design that is worn by the upsy daisy and the hair is the same vibrant colours. The toy is decorated brightly to capture the eye of a baby and looks fascinating and provides entertainment. I think that is one of the many joys that draw babies and toddlers to the in the night garden series as the colours are so bright and engaging. The upsy daisy teddy can be enjoyed by both girls and boys, it does resemble more of a girls toy but iggle piggle off the series resembles a boys toy and my daughter still loves him. It can be enjoyed by any young age really, not just around the 12 month mark. My daughter is nearly 3 and she still enjoys the toy despite not playing with it as much as she used to. The teddy is completely washable, I don't know if it is advised to, but we have put ours in the washing machine a couple of times over the last 2 years and it has always came out looking like new. However after 2 years it is starting to show some were and tear, but nothing has broken and no seems have ripped so it really is good quality. I don't know how much it was at the time as it was bought as a gift but you can buy it now for around £10 which is a great price for the quality and enjoyment it can provide for a child. I would definitely recommend buying one, it is mostly aimed at fans of in the night garden but as a cuddly toy, any child should like it and get enjoyment from it.
Upsy Daisy Doll In the Night Garden is a favourite among our children and one of the favourite Characters is Upsy Daisy (you get used to the unusual names on this CBeebies children's programme eventually!). This 11" doll is one of many Night Garden character toys we have in our house and was bought for about £10.00 about a year ago. I have seen prices vary online between £5.00 and £25.00 which the later is certainly ridiculous! Even £10.00 is a lot for this doll which is NOT the talking or dressing up doll though our children love her and she has been on many day trips with us since coming to our home! The doll is soft bodied and very durable. Even after a year ago with many hours of play, the doll still looks as good as new. It also washes well both hand wash or washing machine which is great with young children always making messes! The doll's appearance is exactly like that of Daisy in the television show and straight away recognisable to the child. I fully recommend this doll to Night Garden fans though do look around for competitive prices as even though we paid £10 I do think that is too high for what is simply a cuddly toy!
