I bought this Dora for my daughter around two years ago for hir birthday, I got it from my local village toy shop and paid 14.99 althoug I know that it can also be bought on Amazon for around 25.00. It was a brilliant buy, not only because of the cheap price but also because she still plays with it now and all of the pieces are still intact and look good as new.
Dora The Explorer is a very popular childrens cartoon character and is well known for her travelling and also talking sometimes in Spanish (which I think is absolutely amazing as my daughter has picked up loads of he language and uses it frequently - pretty good for a 5yr old!). There are numerous childrens products which can be bought and guarentee a smle every time.
The doll itself is a replica of Dora, with her bobbed brown hair and latino colouring and has with it, two baby siblings, one girl and one boy.
Dora's face is made up of plastic and her clothes of fabric with a battery pack (requiring 3 AAA batteries) inside of her back which is for the different phrases from Dora. Also attatched to one of Dora's hands is a plastic baby bottle of milk and with the set is a plate with food on and a feeding spoon.
She is wearing a chic, pink t-shirt, blue "denim" shorts with pink cuffs on the bottom and has a yellow baby carrier attatched to her top half with space for the two babies to sit in.
The babies are dressed in nappies and the boy has a blue t-shirt on and the girl a pink one and a pink bow in her hair, also they have each got one arm raised so that they fit into the baby carrier with ease (when put on the right sides) as the other arm and legs are not movable.
By pressing Dora's flower on her shoe you can activate her speech, she says such phrases as
"Time To Feed The Babies"
"Will You Help Me Feed My Brother And Sister"
"Are The Babies Getting Sleepy"
"I love Being A Big Sister"
amongst others. Also Dora sings the song "It's Great Being A Big Sister", one of the songs featured on the show.
The twins also make gurgling, eating and cooing noises when being "fed" which is one of the reasons why I think that my Daughter enjoys playing with them so much.
Personally I was so relieved that my Daughter had this toy as I was having a new baby and with her being an only child, it was great to use to help to introduce to my Daughter some of the things that would be happening and also when the baby was here and I was feeding her, she could feed the twins and did not feel left out or egnored.
Also this is advised from ages 3+.
Overall well worth buying and can generate years of Dora fun.
My daughter is a huge Dora the Explorer fan and has been for 3 years and she is only 4 now! But with two older sisters she saw her from an earlier age and when ever we went shopping she had the eyes of a marksman and could spot anything with Dora on at 50 paces!
I have to be honest and say that I have never ran out of Dora things to buy for her as Dora has her name on everything and I have decided to review some of them as I have become an authority on all things Dora thanks to my little expert.
The product that I am reviewing now is the Dora big sister doll. I actually bought this as my daughter was complaining that she would not be a big sister like her older sisters were and after a discussion my hubby and I decided it would be cheaper to buy her that rather than have another baby!!
====== The Product =====
Dora big sister comes in a colourful box with plastic on the front so that you can see the doll inside and it also has a round hole in the plastic so that you or your child can press it to see what sounds it makes as all children seem to like to try before you buy!
I did want to make a note about the packaging, I know that they do everything for safety reasons but my god I hate it!, you need the dexterity of a teenage texter and the patience of mother Teressa to get through it all!. Every part is attached to the backing cardboard by the small plastic catered wire that is then wrapped around 1000 times and surgically attached to the cardboard. Anyway rant over and I'll get onto the actual doll itself.
The Dora doll is a heavily padded doll with the a rather big back which is where the battery pack is stored for the sounds that she makes. She has the usual hair style that Dora has and the hair is made from that horrible synthetic hair you know type that needs to be brushed 100 times a day or it ends up a tatty mess (Not unlike my good self!)
The doll face is made of hard wearing smooth plastic and everything else including the feet and arms and hands are padded.
She is wearing a cute outfit of pink t-shirt and blue shorts and the yellow baby carrier is attached to her top.
The baby carrier on her front has two little pockets where both the babies sit with the legs pocking out the bottom, this is attached to Dora and can not be removed.
The doll also has a plastic milk bottle which is attached to one of Dora's hands.
The little twin siblings are a baby brother and baby sister. These are made from quite strong plastic and the are quite solid. There are no movable parts on the babies and they are designed to be removed from Dora although they are styled with the right arms slightly bent so that they sit comfortably inside the pocket on the Dora.
The little boy has a pale blue top on and the little girl has a pink top on and a cute bow in her hair.
You also get a spoon and a small plate with pretend food which is not removable and you use this to fed the babies along with the attached bottle in Dora's hand.
======== What Does It Do? =======
The left hand on Dora activates the phrases that she says by gently pressing the button that is concealed in her hand.
The phrases are all said in Dora's voice and there are six different ones including, "I love being a big sister!"
"Will you help my feed my brother and sister?" , "Are they babies getting sleepy?", "Time to feed the babies" and "It's to give the babies a nap" . The babies also make gurgling and cooing noises and this comes from pressing Dora's hand as I said before the babies are just plastic.
Dora also sing the song "It's great being a big sister" which is featured in a few of the Dora TV show episodes.
======== Conclusion =======
I think that all in all it's a great product if you have a Dora fan in your house, I think it's also a great gift if you have a little girl and are expecting another baby as I know a few friends who have done this to ease the way for introducing a new baby into the house.
I have to say that because the doll is padded and the head is plastic you can not sit Dora upright as the weight of her head makes her fall over! So she needs to be leaned against something if you want her to sit up.
My daughter has had this since last Christmas and still plays with it now and it's still in good condition unlike some of hat other toys and dolls so it is durable although the hair is slightly tatty now!
The battery pack is accessible from the dolls back, the Velcro strips come apart and you can replace the batteries , it takes 3 AAA batteries.
======== Cost And Availability ======
Big Sister Dora is available in most toys stores including Toys r us, Argos and also on Amazon for approx £24.50.
Suitable for ages 3 and over.
My 5 year old daughter is Dora the explorer mad and although this doll is aimed at children a little younger than her at age 3 plus I thought with her just having become a big sister last October this would be a great toy for Christmas for her.
I paid £25 for this and for that you get a lovely soft bodied Dora doll, two plastic baby dolls 1 boy and 1 girl, a sling for Dora to carry them around in, a feeding bowl and spoon for you to feed the babies as well as a bottle.
The Dora doll requires 3 aaa batteries which are supplied with the toy, this works the speech and song mode that you activate from the flower button on her left shoe, to be honest with you it isn't one of those toys that irritate you too much as it is played with a lot of the time by my daughter without her even pressing this button.
When using the bottle, feeding bowl and spoon the babies will make an eating noise and also coo at you which my daughter loves top do, I think this is a great aspect of the toy as I know for certain if they did not do this my daughter would have lost interest in feeding them and wouldn't be able to find the feeding accessories by now.
My daughter has had endless hours of fun playing with this toy and I think it is a must have for any big Dora fan
We bought this as a present for a friend's daughter for her third birthday. She was delighted when she opened it and I often see her playing with it. The best thing about this toy is that not only can a child play happily on their own with it, but there is also opportunity for parents to get involved and play with it as well. My friend's daughter brings it with her when she comes to visit and we spend ages playing with it. It has also helped her learn about how to handle a real-life baby for when her little baby brother or sister arrives. I think this is an ideal 'training' doll for when an only child is going to become an older sibling. And it isn't just for girls. My son loves it too. He's not quite a year though so he mainly drools all over it but still, he shows an interest in it, which is the main thing!
There is a big Dora the Explorer doll and two tiny little dolls, to which Dora is the older sister. She can carry them, feed them and play with them.
The doll also sings a song, which is quite irritating but most noisy kids toys are! The kids love to press the button and listen to the song.
These dolls cost about £25, so not cheap but for a branded character doll, that isn't too bad. It is very well made and stands up to quite a lot of use!
It's great for kids who are going to become and big brother or sister and it's also great for any Dora fans.
Highly recommended product.
This is a fantastic investment as far a toy goes. My daughters have hours of fun playing with this and imagining various senarios that Dora can get into.
Dora is a little explorer who goes on amazing adventures throught forests, over mountains and across crocodile filled lakes to reach her destination with the help of her friend Boots and Map.
This toy sees Dora looking after her new born twin brother and sister. Dora is a soft bodied doll with beautiful dark ebony realistic hair. She comes with a sling that easily fits her little brother and sister in so that she can carry them around on her adventures.
This toy also comes with sound, which I would have actually preferred it not to. The voice sings and has various sayings but it it has a very strong accent and some of the words are really difficult to make out.
Ours has now started to go a bit funny like it has a loose connection and misses words out. So as a result we have taken the batteries out as there is no off switch. I think my daughter enjoy it more now as they do a pretend Dora voice.
This set also comes woth a little bowl and spoon so that Dora can feed the babies and as she does the babies giggle which is really cuted.
I purchased this on offer for under £10 and am really pleased with my purchase.
My daughter loves Dora so for christmas we looked around at all the toys that was on the market and some of them was to old for her as she is only 2 years old we then came across this Dora doll and thought it was perfect as she is a big sister herself and trys to help look after her sister.
Dora can do things for her little brother and sister she can take them for a walk in the harness that is attached to her she can also feed them stitched to her hand is a bottle once you put the bottle in to there mouth it will start making a noise Dora will also speak, you can also play feeding the babies with the spoon and plate of play food that comes with the dolls Dora also speaks in spanish as if you know Dora as much as i do she speaks in spanish as well as english. She also sings the big sister song as my daughter now has picked up and sings it around the house much to my enjoyment not.
we got our doll from toys r us and at this present time it will cost you £21.99 but we brought ours when it was on offer at £14.99 but elsewhere does stock them so i would look around first from point of view i wouldn't pay £21.99 for the doll. It also will need 3 AAA batteries.
It is hard wearing as my daughter has thrown it all round the house and it still works the only thing is you cant put it in the washing machine because of the voice box inside so if your child is as messy as mine that is a problem but it can be wiped down. It is very colourful doll the top is a bright pink with a yellow harness blue and pink trousers with blue shoes.
i would recommend this doll to anyone as it does keep my daughter quite when playing well apart from her saying what dora says
the only thing is the price like i said earlier i would shop around and look for a better deal as i think its a little over priced for what it is.. Thank you all for reading.
Dora is a big sister! She holds her baby brother and sister in a baby carrier. When the child presses the flower button on Dora's left shoe a song and speech will be activated. For nurturing play, the child can use the included bottle or spoon and bowl.
