My little girl is Disney Princess mad, so she was very happy to find the Ariel soft toy for her third birthday. They are a little expensive compared to other soft toys, but as it is exclusive to the Disney store this was to be expected. (There are similar ones available at Argos). Of course she is modelled on the character Ariel from the film 'The little mermaid', and she looks very like her. The whole doll feels and looks very well made, with quality stitching and glitter all over her tail. She sparkles in the light and has a well detailed, inviting face that drew my little girl's attention instantly. Her lovely sparkly tail and bright red hair all make her stand out from the other dolls on the shelf, and this is what grabbed my daughter's attention.
To be honest this toy receives so much more use than I expected it too. It looks very pretty, and I could see why my little girl was attracted to it. I thought after a few days she would become bored. In fact she still uses this toy very often. She has a number of the other dolls in the range and she often sets up tea parties or plays in her dolls house with them. She does not seem to mind they cannot stand up alone and just likes holding them herself. This does not stop her from making up endless stories and including this toy in them. My youngest girl likes the different textures provided with the different details, and she especially loves playing with the tail and hair. As it is made from material there is no chance of her eating it. The doll can be moved slightly, but as it is a soft toy it really cannot do a lot.
Of course as they are so soft this makes the dolls perfect for a cuddle. My little girl loves this doll for just carrying around with her and giving it a quick hug now and then. She can take it to bed in the evening and there is nothing she can hurt herself on. My little girl who is just coming up to a year old can also play with these dolls, and there is nothing dangerous. It is light enough so that it can be enjoyed by younger children and still a substantial size so it appeals to them and holds their attention. The shape makes it perfect for little ones to grab, and I have now purchased the Cinderella version for my little girl's upcoming first birthday.
We have found this to be very durable. It has received use from my four year old little girl that carries her everywhere. It also receives a lot of use from my youngest daughter grabbing at it, and trying to bite it. They do become rather grubby when spending their days in the hands of a rough toddler. It is hand wash only but I have to admit it comes up brilliant. There is no reduction in the colour or even the sparkles and once dry it looks as good as new. We have had to clean ours over and over and it has never shown on the doll. She takes a little while too fully dry even just being wiped with a cloth, but then she is ready for more adventures!
If you cannot tell already we love this soft toy. It is a perfect first doll and are available in a number of different variations, so you can be sure to find your perfect princess. It is a good size, but is still light enough and durable enough to actually be played with rather than sat on a shelf. They are more expensive than other cuddly toys at £16, but they are great quality and can live up to a lot of use. Despite their being no hair to brush or any accessories this toy receives lots of use. It is not something that is going to just be left on the shelf a week after use.
The little mermaid has to be my all time favorite Disney movie, and has been every since I watched it for the first time as a young girl. As all my family an friends know about this love of mine towards the movie and it's characters I received many 'joke' type little mermaid presents for my recent birthday. Although they weren't so much a joke present to me as I loved them!
Among my sea of little mermaid gifts was this plush doll of the main character Ariel. I noticed that it had the Disney store badge sewn into her meaning it must have been purchased from there only and on my recent visit to purchase a new Winnie the pooh mug for my mum I couldn't help but take a sneaky peek at the price. I was shocked to see that this doll retails at £16, not because I think the quality of the doll is poor in anyway, I just don't know anyone in their right mind who would pay over £10 for an average sized plush toy or teddy bear.
The Ariel doll is made of a very decent durable material which can be noticed by just holding the doll, it felt very think and padded whilst maintaining a cosy softness. I think that the resemblance of Ariel is there but not fully to the standard you'd expect for that price and from the Disney shop. There are no safety hazards with this doll as the tag can be easily removed and the rest is just soft fabric.
There isn't too much to say about this product, what you see is what you get. A nice cosy plush doll of your favorite Disney princess. This doll is also available in other characters at the same retail price. Although I love this doll and the memories it brings back, I still have difficulty understanding how to justify charging £16 for a soft toy. If you have the money to splurge then definitely get this doll, but if the pricing is a little too steep then I would recommend that the doll isn't really worth the hassle.
It's only in the last few weeks my daughter has started to love Disney films, and The Little Mermaid is no exception! Over that time (as she has had a birthday) she has managed to accrue a lot of Disney DVDs, toys and games. One of her favourites is the Disney The Little Mermaid Soft Toy, which is a lovely toy suitable for all ages as it's a soft toy with no sharp edges or buttons etc, modelled just like Ariel, the Little Mermaid.
It sizes up at 21cm high which is just the right size for toddler cuddles, and of course, with it being Disney, it's very well made and conforms to all EU safety guidelines for soft toys. It bears a great resemblance to Ariel, slightly more childlike and cartoonish in a way, but charming nevertheless.
One small issue, not with the toy itself, is that it prices up at £26.99 in the Disney Store, Trafford, and I've also seen it this price online and in other stores which stock it - larger supermarkets (if you're in the Manchester area, the Trafford Asda has a Disney section), Amazon, larger Boots and toy shops such as Toys R Us and Smyths. I think that that is a bit pricey for what is a medium sized soft toy with no accessories or electronic parts, charming as it is. I think around £15 would be more suitable given that it is a 'spin off' product which do cost more - but the Disney The Little Mermaid Soft Toy actually costs more than the movie The Little Mermaid on Blu-Ray! A bit ridiculous.
That said, I'll only knock a star off for the inflated price and award the Disney The Little Mermaid Soft Toy 4 stars out of 5 because in any other way it's a perfect gift for a little Little Mermaid fan, and it is well made, easy to clean and very safe and suitable for very young ones.
Overall I am pleased she likes it - more so at the price!!
Among my daughters hoard of soft toys is a Little Mermaid doll. She's had this doll for a couple of years and it was bought from The Disney Store. Being from The Disney Store means it's a 'Disney Store Exclusive' and cannot be bought anywhere else (there is a patch sewn on the top of her tail which reads 'Disney Store Exclusive').
My daughter is a big fan of the 1989 Disney film 'The Little Mermaid' and also loves all of the Disney Princesses. I loved The Little Mermaid as a child too, so I often end up buying her Little Mermaid merchandise for her enjoyment and my childhood nostalgia!
This doll isn't a Barbie type doll and isn't made of plastic. It's a soft plush doll, made mostly of a fleecy polyester material. This makes a nice change because my daughter has lots of soft teddies/animals and lots of plastic dolls, but not many soft dolls. It's suitable for children of all ages and there aren't any small parts or potential hazards. The doll is soft on the outside and squishy on the inside - perfect for cuddles! My daughter often takes her Little Mermaid to bed with her. The doll measures 52cm long, which I think is a real generous size. She is just 15cm wide and is lightweight. The fact she is long and thin (and lightweight) means she is the perfect size for little ones to get their arms around and also means that she doesn't take up much room in bed. She's also a suitable size for taking out and about (in buggies, in the car etc). She looks just like you would expect and is instantly recognisable. Little Mermaid fans are certain to love this doll. She wears a purple shiny shell 'bra' and has green shiny tail. The tail has silver flecks in it, so it looks quite fish like! She wears a purple netted 'skirt' over the top of her tail and the bottom of her tail is made from a crinkly material (the different textures are sure to captivate all young children). She has a sewn on necklace and earrings, and a shiny tiara on top of her soft puffy orange hair. She also has beautiful big blue eyes and pink lips stitched on to her face. She has lots of nice detail and seems like very good quality.
Although the doll is pretty, it's also very basic. It doesn't do anything and her clothes cannot be removed. It doesn't stand up by itself either. This means that my daughter is quite limited when playing with her Little Mermaid doll and has to use her imagination to make up games and stories with her. She quite often gets her other dolls and Little Mermaid characters and makes them 'swim' and talk with each other!
We've had this doll for a couple of years and there's still no sign of wear and tear. She's in perfect condition, so I can happily confirm that this doll is very durable and robust.
The Little Mermaid Soft Doll costs £16.00 which I personally think is a little overpriced for a doll that doesn't do anything. However she looks lovely, is a nice size, my daughter likes her and she's very durable so I would be happy to recommend.
