All of my dogs moult a lot, especially my husky and chocolate labrador so I make sure that they are brushed regularly to get rid of any dead hair as it can be quite itchy for dogs when they moult. I also find it important to brush them regularly because we usually end up with clumps of hair all over the living room floor if we don't. Brushing them regularly doesn't completely solve this problem but when they do moult a lot less hair comes out which saves me from spending ages sweeping up!! I've got two different dog brushes - one fancy one which is specially shaped and one basic one - this one - which is a simple double sided brush. I definitely prefer this one as it is more effective at getting dead hair out of my dogs coats and it also has a handle (unlike the more expensive one) so it is easy to hold. The brush has long metal pins on one side which go deep into the dogs fur, clearing all the layers of dead hair and they're also great at detangling the fur when it is coated in dry mud etc. The pins have got little plastic balls on the end meaning that if they make contact with the dogs skin they will not hurt and they also help stimulate the dogs' blood flow apparently. The other side has lots of soft but durable bristles. I find this side best for fussing my dogs with rather than actually brushing them - I usually just rub them on the head and ears and under the chin with it and they love it. I don't use the pin side on their heads though as although they're not sharp I worry that they might scratch them. The pinned side is bet for their backs and the backs of their legs which is where all the clumps of dead fur gather and my chocolate labrador who has huge folds around her neck loves it when I use this around her neck as it gets rid of heaps of dead hair. The brush is padded underneath the bristles and pins which makes the bristles a little more flexible and easier to brush all over the dog without having to hold the brush in a certain way or re-adjust the angle. The brush is suitable for a range of different animals including cats and it is suitable for any type of fur including curly. The brush is simple in design and it is made of a sturdy plastic. The colour scheme is blue and grey and the handle is easy to securely grip. The brush head is a good size so has a good cover area meaning it doesn't take ages to brush the dogs. The bristles are black and the pins are silver and made of a very sturdy metal. Getting all of the hair out of the brush is easy and it can be washed. I bought this from Wilkinson's and they also had a wooden version available. I paid around £6.00 for this brush and after around six months it is still in great condition - none of the bristles or pins have fallen out and it doesn't look worn or tatty despite regular use. Overall I highly recommend this brush and I give it five out of five stars.

Leave dog looking shiney and new!

This is a godsend! I have a long haired border collie who is just over 1 yr old now (and 2 cats!!!), and having noticed I have to do the hoovering every other day as there is always dog hair everywhere. I recently purchased one of these brushes, and take the dog out in the yard and brush him down twice a week and I only have to hoover once a week now! The dog loves it as it massages him as hes being brushed and brings out the natural oils in his skin to make his coat healthy. Gets rid of excess hair easily you can see it on the brush, the dog loves it, ,its so easy to use, and perfect size and comfortable for me to hold, it has 2 types of brush for different types of grooming, my dog prefers the pinned side Makes his coat tidy and shiney, removes matting, knots and dead hair easily leaving your doggy looking shiney and new :) I also have one for the cats and they absolutely adore it, the prefer the bristle side gently rubbed over them and they seem to be able to sit there for ever being brushed over!!!

Ideal For Both Cats & Dogs.

INTRODUCTION Being the proud owner of two rather large dogs and a moulting cat, grooming it part of my everyday life, I can spend hours brushing and de-matting the animals to get rid of any excess hair that seems to gather up in every space possible. I have to hoover on a daily basis as they all shed hair, so I am always on the look out for new grooming tools to help limit the amount of hair that always seems to blanket my carpets. This Ancol Ergo double sided brush is a grooming brush that I have had for a few years, but as my cat is getting really old her fur is coming out in clumps I needed to take action as her hair was becoming worse than the two dogs for shedding. I had I dig out under my stairs cupboard, where everything pet related gets stored and I found this brush, I thought it would be perfect to sort out the cat's fur problem. THE PRODUCT The Ergo pet range were first produced for the professional pet groomers, but as the years have gone on they have expended and started to design products for the actual pet owner to use. I fell this is the best thing they ever did as it save money as you no longer have to send you pet to the hairdressers every four weeks. Ancol Ergo double sided brush is advertised as a dog grooming brush, but I have been using this on both my dogs and the cat and it has given me surprising results, as both dogs and the cat are more than willing to let me brush them with it. The brush is a double sided so it is great for removing any dead hair, undercoat with the side that has the metal bristles on it, one the other side is a much softer brush that smoothes and also removes excess hair. The metal prongs are place within a cushioned pad so they have room to move without really pulling at the pets hair, each prong has a small blue bobble on each end to stop the prong scratching and stabbing at you pets skin, This is the most effective part of the brush and really does remove shedding hair that has no place to go except the floor. The softer brush has very soft bristles that are very closely set together, this side of the brush does not penetrate the hair very well but it seems to increase the shine on their coats, This is good for removing the finer loose hair that the other side of the brush does not collect and the animals love this side as it seems to massage them to the extent that they are dribbling. This brush is grey and blue and has a very well designed handle, it is very easy to hold and manoeuvre when grooming for long periods of time, it has a cushion grip handle which is very good as you hand will not get sore when grooming really knotty hair, which is something I contend with everyday with the dogs. PRICE / AVAILABLITY I bought this neat little brush from an independent pet shop in Barnsley when I was visiting a relative, is cost me 4.85 which is very cheap as good brushes can cost a small fortune. As I am reviewing this brush I decided to have a look online and see if you can buy it else where is I don't even know the name of the shop I bought it from. I have seen these for as little as 3.72 plus postage and ww.amazon.co.uk are currently offering it for 5.99 with free super saver postage as it is over five pounds. MY OPINION I am so happy with this very cheap brush, I can't believe I have not continually used it but I am always buying new brushes so it was something I had forgotten about. The design of this brush is fantastic, not only is it very easy to use and easy to clean but the pets love it to. It is very rare that I have found a brush that is both comfortable for me and my pets that actually works. Ever since I got the brush back out I now have a line of animals waiting for their daily groom, which is very surprising as my oldest dog didn't really like this first time round but now she loves it. Maybe it is her jealous side coming out as she want the attention the other two are getting when I brush them with this. The brush is highly effective on the metal bristle side but the softer side does not do to much, but if I have been pulling out their hair for ten minutes I don't mind spending a few minutes grooming with the softer side for their pleasure, as they really seem to enjoy it. This is great for removing shedding hair and minor matted areas, but this will not remove excessive matting. I would recommend this for day to day grooming of dogs and cats. If you have a cat hair problem I would strongly recommend this as it will cover all of your needs, but to sort out certain doggy hair problems this may not be suitable.

        RECOMMENDED xx

My dog Chloe is a Border Collie and seems to have so much dead hair falling out of her in the run up to summer that I need to groom her every day to keep my carpets from becoming mini dogs. This lessens in the winter months but she still requires a brush. I bought my latest brush from the local pet shop for around £4.00 and I think this is a reasonable price. The brush itself is two sided, with bristles on one side and pins on the other. The pin side is the one I use most often as they get right down into her fur and brush her for the entire length and depth or her coat. The pins are long enough to reach under the glossy top coat and untangle the bottom layer of her fur which is much fluffier and it is this that tends to come out in clumps. The pins are coated with a smooth plastic ending so they will not scratch your animal and instead will feel nice and relaxing. The bristle side is what I use to brush her head and around her ears, as it is slightly softer and more flexible to go round funny shapes (ears) etc. My brush is wooden and is very comfortable to hold, allowing a good grip to brush and groom your dog. The pin side has a squidgy base so the pins will move to some degree when brushing your dog but it is useful when you are de-furring the brush after grooming has taken place and it makes it slightly easier. This is a good durable brush that will last a while in my opinion.

Handy for a light groom and massage

We actually have one of these and have had for a while, one side has bristles on it which are quite soft but very close together to smooth the hair off and the other side has prongs with little bobbles on the end like a hairbrush and it works more to massage the skin. I use the bobbly side first on my 2 cats and they love the massaging effect so it gets them in the mood for more brushing. Then I switch to the other side and brush them to take off loose hairs. I have to say they adore the bristle side and even like to rub their little cheeks on it, it's considered a great fuss tool in our house! It's very gentle and does take off a small amount of hair but doesn't get very far into the fur. If you were aiming for a thorough brushing session and your cat was moulting this is not the best brush on the market, it wouldn't take off huge amounts of fur and I wouldn't think it would be very useful for longhairs at all, the bristle side wouldn't get into the fur and the bobbles on the other side could well get caught in knots, ouch! But as a general light grooming tool and to give their skin a bit of a massage this is a very handy tool. Obviously as it's all-in-one it's also easier to store and you won't lose one of the brushes. We bought ours for about £5 I think but I don't recall where we got it, probably Pets At Home. A handy addition to your grooming kit or nice just for a bit of a fussing if you ask my boys and their motors!
