My current furnished flat came with this dishwasher, and it's certainly a step up from my parents'.
From the outside, it looks practically the same as any other dishwasher, save that there is no dial knob to twist, but instead an LCD display and a bank of programme buttons. The display tells you how long it has left before a cycle is finished.
Inside, the two sliding trays are very well made and the lower one very rarely comes off its rails, regardless of whether it is full or not. You can tell that a good amount of thought and engineering has gone into the tray designs: on both, some of the metal dish-holder "pins" can be folded flat, so you can use the space either for dishes, pans or cups. On the edge of the racks, there are four fold-down plastic trays which, when folded down, can hold knives and utensils which are too tall for the cutlery rack (remember - you always need enough space for the washing arms to rotate fully).
There are several different programmes to choose from, but the two I prefer are quick (under 50 mins) and standard (around the 2 hour mark). Apart from the time, the main difference between the two is that the quick runs at a lower temperature than the standard wash, which is eco-friendly, but may not work well against stubborn grease.
With the standard setting, the dishes retain the heat for a considerable number of hours if the washer is left unopened. This may lead to the water drying off a bit better, but they can be quite hot to handle if you try to take them out immediately after a wash cycle. That said, this is probably a testament to very good insulation, which in turn means it's eco-friendly and doesn't add too much to the electricity bill for heating up the water.
There is also a delay timer, so you can take advantage of cheap overnight electricity rates.
The best part about this dishwasher is that it runs at little more than a whisper. It's so quiet that the noise certainly doesn't carry beyond that room, although there's enough of a gentle whirr to stop you from using it while eating in the same room.
This dishwasher is built to last. So far, I have had several months of trouble-free use from it and would expect many more. I have replaced the salt once and also cleaned the gunk from the internal filter part once as I noticed it had started to smell after a cycle. With this done, it is back to normal use.
