The sales staff at sofa workshop on tottenham court road appear professional and trustworthy. They are, however, interested only in sales and do not guide you in any other direction but the sale. After 3 months of waiting, our sofa delivery was a disaster and it was directly due to the salesman at sofa workshop tip toeing around our paying for an access check, and sending us home to measure up ourselves. He then told us that we were fine and the sofa would fit no problem. There was a problem. And when we spoke to Sofa workshop they told us that it was our fault for not paying £23 for an access check before hand. We paid over £2000 for the sofa and waited 12 weeks. Why would we not pay to be sure of the measurements unless the salesman had insisted we were fine?? When we spoke to the salesman, he said that it was our word against his.Sofa workshop then offered us 2 options: A- they sell it on and charge us £600 to do so, giving us the change in a voucher to be spent in their store. No refunds available. B- We pay a builder to tear out our front windows (£500) and they would wave the window delivery fee!!
They are a bunch of criminals and shysters and should be avoided at all costs and the sales team are not to be trusted at tottenham court road.
SofaSofa/ Thomas Lloyd, 2 and 3 seater sofa and chair bought in the Cardiff store, paid for in full on the day of purchase. Six weeks later, many promises made and not fulfilled, both sofa's turned up in totally unacceptable condition-ripped, staples showing and very badly scratched (even including someones initials!) still awaiting any news on the chair! Poor customer service, and no compensation offered, make you feel inadequate and worthless, not a valued customer at all! They have also had our money for a long time and as yet there is no refund. I would definately not recommend using either of these companies (they are owned by the same person) It may seem like good value, but go to Marks and Spencer instead, they have fantastic customer service and value their customers as any company in this econmonic climate should.
Read the other reviews online, we are not the only ones!
Sorry, I would never deal with Sofa Workshop again.Such a bad experience. I have been scarred for life!
I am going to talk about my experience with CSL at the New Mersey Retail Park in Liverpool. This is the first sofa I've ever bought, so it was a big decision about where to go and what to buy! I also did have a fairly tight budget and I certainly couldn't afford to pay up front.
I looked around a few places but thought CSL had a good range, fabric and leaher and different budgets and a nicely laid out store. They also had a sale on. Staff did ask me if I need any help but they weren't too pushy, which would have really put me off. I found a sofa I liked, a nice squishy grey one, which I loved and I checked out how comfy it was!
It was then that another staff member approached and asked how I was, but then left me alone as I said I was thinking and deciding!
I decided to but and went through the various options, going for paying monthly and paying a deposit up front. There's no interest which is good. You do need a credit check for this option and they will take your details down electronically. They gave me advice about looking after it and a care kit, they did push their insurance scheme a bit though.
I then placed my order and was told it could be ten weeks. I received updates whilst waiting, which incuded texts and then a call to say they could deliver - they delivered on a Saturday, rang me when they were half an hour away and dellvered six weeks after the order, it would have been sooner but I couldn't take delivery.
The sofa is comfy and looks good, haven't had any problems at all (it has only been a couple of months though) and have been pretty impressed so far.
sofa sofa - refund policyI have previously had 2 sofas from sofa sofa and have been very happy with them. However, the last one was too low and not deep enough (despite having all the dimensions to get an idea beforehand!) and I was astounded that it has cost us £85 just to basically 'try it'.I don't think these costs are clearly advertised, so if ordering - be quite sure that it's the one you want!
We had very poor service from SofaSofa. We ordered a sofa from them and they delivered the wrong model. We then ordered two matching sofas in a different style. They delivered two sofas which did not match and were of the wrong colour. All in all we ended up with long periods of waiting and we had to pay a total of £75 in total for delivery and collection for them to take their mistakes away. We never had an apology from them and their customer service was the worst we have ever experienced. We would never order from them again.
The problems currently being experienced at Sofa Workshop have got to be attributed to the management team. I must say, from experience, they do appear to be rather incompetent. I have an ongoing issue with the company and I have received appalling, embarrassing and bungling service. I would put this down to, not just abysmal store management, but to the company not recognising day-to-day problems in-store when they occur, and also not acting on these problems immediately.Roddy B.
I have only been sofa shopping once, because my dad is generally the kind of person that will buy lots of ugly furniture from an auction and then we have to put up with it for the next ten years (only joking if you read this mum!) *cough*
Well anyway, I was browsing for furniture for my new sitting room. Most of it came from IKEA, but I found that the IKEA sofa range, like their bed range, is pretty terrible and didn't really have what I wanted. Next try was a flick through the Argos catalogue - nothing I really liked there either.
I didn't really have a vision of my perfect sofa, just an idea that I would know it when I saw it. I didn't have a colour scheme until I found my perfect sofa and it created it for me. All I needed was something that would fit in the space I had, and the room is quite long so that wasn't too bad.
In the retail park close to my house we browsed Land of Leather, which is where I found the perfect sofa. It was a big corner sofa that seated five people, it was a lovely curvy shape and was leather with 6 cushions. It was also white, not the most practical colour in the world, but it was soft and lovely and was half price. At £750, it cost the same as my TV and was just perfect! I ended up buying it a couple of weeks later after measuring the space. It arrived on time and fitted exactly, and the delivery men placed it in the room where I asked which was nice. It did however come with 4 black cushions and 2 white instead of 3 of each, but they said I could switch them (I didn't bother and it was fine).
Finally we had somewhere to sit and it smelled all nice and new for months. Unfortunately we did get some pen on it and called out the guy from the guarantee to fix it, which he couldn't really. He then told us that because the only thing we'd tried to fix it with was milk (random googling), he'd get another cover delivered for us. We then got a letter a few weeks later saying as we'd tried to remove the stain ourselves the insurance was invalid. Annoying, but not the end of the world. I still have the sofa a couple of years on and it could probably do with a professional clean but it's holding up well and it's comfortable to sleep on as well as to seat friends.
I found the service from Sofa Workshop Manchester nothing short of fantastic!!
From entering the store the service from start to finish was superb, we chose the Tom Foolery sofa which isn't cheap by any means and it arrived last week and we love it! The quality is like no other sofa we have purchased in the past, it feels and looks as expensive as it was.
The staff in the shop spent a long time with us helping to make sure we got exactly what we wanted and even with the fabric which was suggested to us I was a little unsure but he was right its perfect! We even had the footstool completely altered to suit us which was no problem. They can adjust almost anything for you(sometimes with extra charge).
I even have to say the delivery guys brought the sofa in unpackaged it, put the feet on and placed in the correct position for us.
we did have to wait for 10 weeks but this was expected as the sofa is made for you and not just sitting in a warehouse.
Overall we are really pleased with our purchase and it was worth every penny and the wait!
'Sofas in general' is quite a strange category. I could tell you all about how a sofa is constructed. You know the sort of thing I mean. You can have a sofa made of leather, vinyl, fabric, rattan or even wicker. It can be stuffed with kapok, foam, or nothing at all. Choose from 2 seater and three seater, or get a corner unit. Opt for red, blue, green, or even neutral. The general information about sofas goes on for ever.
I could also describe to you in great detail, exactly what benefits a comfy sofa could bring to your life. You could sit on it, lay on it, sleep on it, or even use it to entertain a close friend. A sofa is essential for the last purpose.
Perhaps this isn't quite what is meant by a 'general review' of sofas.
The first thing you need to do is to decide exactly what size and shape of sofa you require. This sounds very simple but it has been known for someone to buy a sofa and wait for it to be delivered, only to discover that it won't fit in the room, or, worse still, fit through the door. Measure carefully.
Next, do a bit of research on the internet and compare prices of sofas. Make sure you include the price of delivery when you make comparisons. There are many sites to choose from including DFS, Land of leather, Argos and Tesco (among others). Make sure that you know what you want and buy the best that you can afford.
A sofa can cost as little as £180 for a two seater at Argos, to thousands of pounds for a top quality leather sofa at Land of Leather, Sofa Workshop and others.
Generally speaking if you buy a very cheap sofa for heavy wear in a lounge, or children's playroom, it won't last long. Like everything else, you get what you pay for and a cheap sofa won't stand up to a lot of bouncing around.
You might also want to think carefully about purchasing over the internet. You have no way of knowing how well the sofa you buy fits you. Each individual needs a different shaped seat to feel comfortable. A sofa with seats that are too wide, too low, too high, or even too narrow will be less than comfortable. The height of the back is also important.
I recently bought a bed settee type sofa over the internet, It looks amazing with its sleek lines and modern design but it simply doesn't fit me. It's too big. The seats are too wide and too high. I would certainly try a sofa for size before I bought another one.
SCS - never again.
I purchaseda four and three seater..4 weeks late with delivery.
Came into house - and by the time the "upholsterer" put it together, there was a gap. I had to phone customer service - and someone came to view. He said he could repair it - by packing and staining. Not an option. I telephoned customer service and spoke to a manager - explained - and also mentioned fact that if you sit on it - you come away covered in white bits. they agreed immediately to refund or replace. I chose another suie - worked on dimensions given on website - and sofa would not fit. Had to take a four and two seater. $ weeks in the house - and the cushions are practically flat. Hey Ho - another fight on my hands - I want a refund - and intend to write to them to uplift and refund - as goods are not fit for purpose. Like others on the site - the one in the showroom felt and looked a damn site more comfortable
Had my sofa6 months when it fell apart, cost £3400, replaced and new one arrived damaged, refused, third one same problem. Asked for money back, had to go to court to obtain it. Even though judge awarded me my monies back still waiting 4 weeks after judgement. AVOID at all costs. Comunication is very poor, lack of knowledge, poor customer service, promises which were never kept, even tried to change my contract from a 2 year interst free to a 1 year interest free without asking me.
Bought a corner suite and single chair in August 07 from the Chester branch, delivered after 6 weeks as arranged. When the suite was set up the cushions did not fit (75mm gap)and the piping around the top was not straight. Arranged for 2 new cushions to be delivered in October the after care team came out with 1 new cushion not 2 that looked like it had been filled with a bag of ferrets. Arranged for delivery of 2 new cushions on the 4th of March, they rang me on the 3rd of March 08 to tell me they had lost the Cushions. Please do not deal with this bunch of incompetent dickheads. Still waiting for a reply to my e-mail to the liason officer, this was sent on the 04.03.08, still waiting for a call from the manager from customer services, I have had make all the phone calls and chasing to make some progress. After sales is a waste of time. 5 Months and still waiting.
Mr Pissed off customer
May 2007, I ordered a sofa from the SCS sofas store in Uddingston. My mother was kind enough to buy them for us, and at the same time ordered a sofa for her house - excellent news for the SCS sales person, 3 x 2 seaters, 1 x 3 seater and a footstool all from the one customer. SCS said that delivery would take around 12 weeks. Fine, exactly as we thought. However 10 months on, I am shocked to admit that I still do not have my sofa from SCS and am now in a long term battle to get the problem rectified. http://fringeunderground.co.uk
I feel the time is right to say something positive about SCS. Recently we visited the store in Bristol - had a very pleasant experience - after trawling round many other sofa retailers in the area. The range in the shop was very good, the service we received excellent. The salesman was pleasant, and courteous, no pressure - no hassle. We chose our sofa, and were swiftly taken through the payment process, told our sofa would arrive in approx 6 weeks - in actual fact it arrived ahead of schedule within 4 weeks. The delivery people were courteous, well organised and assembled our sofa without fuss. Very pleased with the sofa - no problems or hassle - would definitely use SCS when we want to replace this one next time. Thanks SCS - great service!!
