An excellent budget camera for all users.

The Samsung ES15 is a compact budget camera, which takes AA batteries and stores pictures on a standard SD card. It is also easy to use and has been my preferred camera for some time. The AA batteries rather an integral battery is extremely useful at conventions or displays, where recharging lithium cells is impractical, but replacement batteries are easy to purchase. Physically, it is small enough to fit easily in a bag or a pocket, and reasonably robust. The camera's options are access through a menu system controlled by the button on the back. These are very simple and easy to use, drilling down neatly and comprehensibly to get to the options you need. The image is displayed on the screen at the back, allowing you to see what the camera sees before taking a picture. You can also review and delete pictures to free up space. The camera has an extensive range of photographic modes, up to 10 Megapixel resolution, a 3x zoom and lowlight abilities. It also has a default point and click functionality, which makes it very easy to get started. If you are photographing something that moves quickly, or in poor light conditions the camera can be slow to pick it up, requiring you to manually take the shot by clicking the button fully (or simply to be patient). In addition to photographs it also has a decent video mode with a zoom function. There is a screw fitting for a tripod underneath if you need steady or long shots. The only real limit on how long a video can be is the storage so a large SD card can hold a substantial amount of footage, and the video quality is reasonable - I've used mine (once edited) for presentation DVDs. The sound pickup is also good, although almost too sensitive and prone to pick up background noise. It's great for short clips, family memories or youtube use. It can store data on SD Cards, or if you aren't using an SD card, the camera has a small onboard memory where images can be stored, accessed by plugging the camera in to a computer through a micro-USB connection. I've happily used mine with 8 and 16Gb cards so it can handle larger card sizes. Without a tripod long exposure or video footage may be affected by shaking hands, so it is worth getting one. In short this is a useful, easy to manage and affordable camera take takes great snaps. For it's price, it is exceptionally good value.

A great camera at a great price!

I bought the pink version of the Samsung ES15 camera for about £60 back in 2009 and it still holds its quality now. The look of it is quite average and it is a lot thicker than most digital cameras as it uses AA batteries but this is to your advantage! With most other cameras if you don't have your charger, you are a bit stuck, whereas with this one- anywhere in the world you can give your camera the power it needs! There is even a mode on the camera where you can tell it to understand that it is using Lithium-Ion (or rechargeable) batteries so the camera knows when to be in standby mode to preserve power. Once you know how to utilise everything this camera offers, you really can use it to its best abilities. The menu for this camera is idiot proof, even 9 year olds can work it. The main dial works as directional keys in the menus or in the shooting mode to adjust the flash and or a timer, there is a view key and a trash and/or effects key (when in viewing mode). No matter what you are shooting, there is a mode for it. This camera is particularly good for rather acne-ridden teens as the "beauty mode" on it, lightens and smoothes the skin, hence reducing the appearance of spots and you can adjust the level of airbrushing on the camera too. (This was the selling point for me when I bought it!) Other modes include "Text mode" and "Firework mode" which are self explanatory. Using these pre-set modes however mean that if you want to continuously shoot, it is near impossible as it needs to process the image to apply the mode. Also for the perfectionist you can adjust the ISO, the type of lighting used from daylight, halogen or tungsten lighting. Another neat little trick is that if during the photo you didn't apply the effects offered (black and white, retro, cool, warm colour settings) you can go back into the viewing mode and add it later, genius! This camera's one downfall is its video camera- the quality is still good and the sound is good, it is just if you zoom while shooting a video, the sound cuts out! Oh no! However I was seriously surprised what I got out of this camera for the photography mode for the ridiculously cheap cost!

Excellent value for money, you probably won't find a camera with better picture quality under £120

As a frequent concert goer I needed a new digital camera and it needed to be able to take great quality pictures while also fitting in my pocket. This Samsung digital camera is perfect for both these roles and is great value for money. This 10 mega pixel camera (one of only a few cameras at 10 MP at its price) produces excellent photo's. The camera has a standard flash and the optical zoom is pretty good. The buttons are well placed and easy to use, it is pretty obvious what button does what and there is nothing to complicated. What the picture doesn't show you is the digital screen on the back of camera which is pretty large which is very useful. The menu is simple to use and it is very easy to alter options like the flash or to switch to video recording. The face detection and digital image stabilisation are good additions although not crucial. The only problem I have with the camera is that it can drain batteries quite quickly, especially if you have the flash on, but then again what camera doesn't? Also sometimes the camera is unable to focus properly and can blur the image but generally it is pretty good at auto-focusing on an object. I used this camera when I went trekking in Morocco and it produced some incredible images. The pictures were well focused and the colours produced were vibrant including the different shadow effects. What is even more impressive is that I would be taking pictures of mountain ranges tens of kilometers away and the images which came from the camera were as good as some of those who had more expensive digital cameras. If you are looking for a portable camera which produces great quality pictures while being very affordable (bought mine for £60) then this is it.

        I would recommend this :-)

I purchased this camera from Asda online for around £40, which I think must have been an offer on at the time (Feb 2010) as it is one of the cheapest prices I've seen for a digital camera. The camera is a stylish silver colour, is a compact size (9.5cmx2.5cmx6.5cm) and is quite light-weight at approx 125g, it comes with a rope that can be attached to the camera so it can be carried. The photo quality is excellent, it is a 10.2 mega pixel camera with x3 optical zoom. The screen on the back of the camera is large, around two-thirds of the back of the camera and so it makes viewing/editing pictures accessible. The buttons on the camera are easy to use: zoom, viewing pictures, deleting pictures, flash on/off etc. The camera takes batteries-it doesn't "eat" them as some cameras I have had in the past but they do need replacing frequently. One of the only disadvantages I've found that shots at night are a bit rubbish- with blurs and glares. Though to be honest I've never found a good digital camera that takes night shots. This camera has several features: *face detection *digital image stabiliser (produces images with no blur) *trouble shooting photo help guide *beauty shot (photo touch up to make you look more beautiful! I haven't tried this) *self portrait so you can take photos of yourself easily Overall this is an excellent little camera, especially if you don't want to pay too much for one.

Amazing camera, amazing price, amazing quality

I purchased this camera for my girlfriend for her birthday this year, as she is a typical 18 year old girl she wanted something that was simle and easy to use. Her specific needs was tha the camera had to be pink (whihc is an option for this camera) and also it had to take pictures very quickly.......... well all i can say is wow :) what a fantastic camera for her use, in fact it is so good i am planning on purchasing myself one of these cameras when i get paid this month. The 10.2 megapixel respolution is perfect for any everyday situation and unless you are a professional photographer then this is all that you are going to need. It can print up to A2 high quality images whihc is amazing and subsequently she is greatly impressed. The camera came with a lovely case and a useful strap and has been used a great amount since she received the gift. I was looking for a camera which offered value for money yet at the same time the quality of a multi national brand. Samsung have created a great little camera which is not only affordable but also great quality. Amazing features that are not expected from a camera of this price range, the best being the beauty shot which gave us many hours of jokes with friends, especially taking the pictures andinsinuating that beauty shot would definatley be needed. The shutter speed is amazing, less than 1 second i would say, along with 3x zoom whihc also offers the high quality imaging expected. Another great feature is the changable megapixel size, this way you can save memory on your SD card. Finally the most practical feature is the fact that it use AA batteries whihc when run out can be found in every high street shop, highly useful. An amazing purchase and i would definately recommend to anybody who wishes to purchase a camera. It beats the professinal camera that my dad purchased for £300 and is as good as any that i tried out during the stressful time of searching shops for this present. Well look no further........................ this is the camera for you.

Easy to use and great quality photos

I love taking photos, especially on nights out with friends, and when my last camera died on me, I needed to find a sturdy, but reasonably priced new digital camera. I wanted a black camera, and I wanted Samsung, as this is a brand that I trust and own a good few Samsung products including my phone (at the time) and my laptop, and soon my new TV :D The Samsung ES15 is a 10.2 mega pixel camera with optical zoom, as well as facial detection technology. Also, it comes with image stabilzation and red eye reduction, as standard. The ES15 is lightweight and slim, with a decent sized screen on the back so you can easily see what photos you are taking. The photo speed is very quick, practically instant from pressing the capture button, which is something that I find important as I like to capture moving things sometimes and it really winds me up if you have to wait for the camera to take the picture. I have owned cameras before that took anything up to 5 seconds from pressing the button to actually taking the photo, This is not only annoying, but can mean you miss many a great photo!! The camera also has a video mode, so you can capture high quality videos with good sound on them too. There is a good sized LCD screen on the back, so you can easily see what you are capturing on video and on photos, and you can play your videos and photos back too. The video mode is actually brilliant, and I have captured some amazing moments on video thanks to my Samsung ES15. The ES15, like most digital cameras these days does not come with a whole lot of internal memory, so it is a necessasity to have an SD memory card for use with this camera. These can be bought for a good price these days, and the ES15 has an SD card slot next to the battery compartment. It is really easy to pop an SD card in or out of the camera, as it has a spring loaded assistance to help you place and remove the card whenever you need to. There are many different photo functions on the camera, including black and white, sepia and negative, so you can play around with different types of photos and have some fun with them. There are also different flash modes including single flash, red reducing and no flash. The self timer option is also very useful and has a good few different time settings. All these functions are really easy to find, and just as easy to use or to no longer use. I think this is probably the most user friendly camera I have ever used and/or owned. The menus are really simple to use and everything is set out in such a way that everything is easy to find. The battery life is great, I have had this camera since November, and only once have I had to change the batteries, and I am a heavy photo user. I do recommend Energizer Lithium batteries, as personal experience has shown these to last a lot longer in digital cameras. They may cost a little more, but truly worth the cost! This camera is incredibly lightweight, but does not come supplied with a protective case, but these can be bought quite cheap on Amazon, so it isn't a major deal. The camera appears to be quite sturdy, I have dropped mine a few times, but no damage or problems have occured. I still have a scratch free camera, with no problems and I have owned this one almost a year now. I still love it, and after much heavy use for many different occasions, it is still going strong and I believe it to have much more life left in it yet *touch wood* I have this camera in black, but I have also seen it for sale in Silver and Light Pink. The camera itself is still thee same no matter which color you buy, but the pink one will cost you a little bit more than the black or the silver ones. I recommend this camera to anyone who likes to take photos, as its just the perfect little camera in my opinion. I really can not find a fault with this camera. You can buy the Samsung ES15 on Amazon, like I did, or it is also available in Argos and in Toys R Us. It is probably available to buy in many places, and if you have a good look around the internet then you will more than likely find it for a bargain price. If you like to take good quality photos, with quick speed and no effort and not have to pay a fortune for the camera in the first place, then I am happy to recommend the Samsung ES15 to you. *This review is also on Ciao under the name of Hailee*

Amazing camera. Better than expensive SONY, CANON, etc. Easy to use, really excellent picture quality compared to more expensive cams of same effective megapixels. Truly worth every penny. Great flash power. Super Fine JPEG setting is amazing. Intuitive menu. Runs on AA batteries which you can buy anywhere. I find it better than expensive ones, even rivals my Canon SX20's Auto setting. Great logic in auto setting exposure, with or without flash. Really intelligent logic and simple. Please don't believe other biased reviews. I tell you, a lot of buyers in my country is truly satisfied with this amazing product. I bought 1 for my wife, and got rid of my cybershot. Far better than SONY's new sub-compact cameras. Compared to expensive-stylish cams, I'd rather have simplicity and picture quality. Don't be deceived by other's enhanced LCD display. Look at the pictures in print and PC. You'll see...

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

It's okay if all that you want own is a digital camera

If I remember correctly of all the cameras that I have reviewed here, this possibly is the cheapest so far. In fact the main idea was to have a first hand experience of Samsung range of cameras and I thought it prudent to try the cheapest possible available in Samsung array of cameras. Well the experience is very close to disaster. Design: Probably its only positive point is its price, that probably is about all. If you look at the design it does look cheap, drab and dumb to say the least. In fact the ES55 looks just that better with its very quaggy aluminium casing, this one comes with a forlorn drab plastic wrapping which probably will make the least fashionables talk about fashion. Lets have a look at the technical specs of the Samsung ES15: Maximum resolution 10.2 megapixel 3x optical zoom lens AA alkaline battery Screen 2.7 inch LCD Face detection, auto red-eye removal, a voice recorder, 12 scene modes, a slideshow function VGA movie mode and a new automatic tool called Beauty Shot. Dimension: 94.1x62.7x25.2 mm Digital Image Stabilization Advance Movie Mode Color choices: Candy Pink, Silver, White and Dark Grey, Black. Performance:I would definitely say its performance overrides its drab looks. The images were pretty sharp with adequate detail at difficult areas, although image quality could have been definitely better but the shots are decent at certain lighting if you keep in mind the ISO setting to be kept under 400. But it must be underlined that the Samsung ES15 is meant for casual snappers. Menu & Controls: The menu layout control interface is the 4-way control pad which were quite responsive. Although the menus are well labeled, it has to be gotten used to and some features require frustrating and annoying searches. The inclusion of RGB mode in the menu is welcome. The Beauty Shot tool should give some joy to the casual snappers. Its got a decent slideshow option with music and transition effects. Batteries: One of the heartening features are the batteries replacing ES55's li-ion with more easily available alkaline AA cells. The battery life, therefore, shouldn't be a source of worry. Although it makes ES15 a whole lot bulkier than the ES 55. Keeping the cost factor mind, it's a decent buy for the casuals. You get a digital camera to say the least at £79. That was the price ways back in April this year, last I heard was around £60. (This review was first published at ciao.co.uk under the same user mame)

This camera produces very clear pictures and the LCD screen is nicely sized for reviewing photos. This camera is light and it's not bulky so it can be stored easier. I do enjoy using this camera, it's very easy to use, no complications! It takes AA's. This is a really good thing as you can just buy a packet of rechargeable batteries and stick two in the camera andkeep two in your case, and that's you sorted for a day out. You never know how many pictures you'll take with this little gem. The screen is rather good even in bright sunlight, which is great for taking and looking at snaps while on Holiday or when we get the weather here!!! The controls are nicely thought out and it feels quite well made too. This camera does a great job and it is well worth its price, could not argue with the quality for the money.

            thumbs up!

I was given this camera as a present and I have to say that it Is the best camera that I have ever owned. I have found it to be a lot better quality than some of the more price models out there and I think it looks stylish and is compact. Once you have the hang of the menu it is easy to use and delete pictures etc and uploading them to your computer could not be easier. The quality of the pictures from this are great at 10. something pixels! You can blow up your pictures and they still hold that quality. Overall I think this is a great buy and I think that if you are considering it then you will be impressed by it's durability and it's style, it is well made and looks great wherever you go, on holiday or just usuing it in your garden!

It's the camera that's great to have around to capture all those not-to-be-missed moments. With its handy photo help guide built right in, the ES15 sports a 3x optical zoom lens for sharp, clear close-ups and Digital Image Stabilization technology that instantly eliminates any camera motion. Composing shots is a breeze with a generous 2.5" LCD screen, especially when you're shooting video.
