Well what can I say? This is an absolutely excellent bit of kit that you couldn't break if you tried! I work as a kayak coach and this little beauty has seen me through countless trips down the river, regularly submerged and bashed around and always coming out on top.
The camera is encased in solid metal and sits very well in your hand, it is able to withstand a crushing force of 100kg and a drop of 1.5m. It is also waterproof to 10m and freezeproof to temperatures of -10 degrees celsius so whether you are skiing or diving you don't need to worry!
The camera is stylish and comes in a range of colours; there is no viewfinder however and you are forced to use the (good sized) screen on the back to take your picture, this can occasionally pose a problem in bright sunlight but it is rarely an issue.
The picture quality is good, although at 7.1 megapixels not outstanding, and the video is also good despite the slightly tinny sound...
Take care to always wash the camera after excursions in salt water and the salt and sand can cause the lens cover to become blocked, leaving the lens unprotected.
The menu and Olympus computer software is very easy to use and navigate and pictures are transferred very quickly to the computer, there are also a wide range of shooting modes availably on the camera including one specifically for fireworks!
In short this camera is able to do things that others can only accomplish with very bulky extra cases, it looks good and fits easily in your pocket so is suitable for virtually every occasion.
This has the ability to withstand anything short of being dropped of the Eiffel tower, but still has a decent picture quality. Still, it is unbelievable that it can take any kind of picture at all whilst 10m deep in freezing water and being crushed is remarkable enough. Can withstand a drop from around 1.5m and unlike other cameras will withstand water sport conditions. If your after an indestructible camera to suit your clumsy needs of dropping your camera on the floor or in puddles, the Olympus mju SW series will have to be the one for you, and the 770 SW is the most drop - water resistant - crush - extreme weather conditions - crushproof of its kind. As this nice piece of work brushes off these conditions its beautifully designed and ergonomically made to fit its user.
Although it is pretty expensive it is worth it and is a big thumbs up!
This is an amazing camera, I've had mine around 8 weeks now, I'm an avid traveller and the olympus 770 sw just has to be the best camera for travelling as it even goes underwater.
The body is shock and waterproof, you can drop it from around 4 feet, stand on it (that's stand NOT stamp !) as it will take around 100 kilos and go diving with it down to 10 meters !
the underwater capabilities are simply awesome, I was out in sharm el sheikh two weeks ago and every day I'd go snorkelling, I spent hours just taking pictures and loading them on my laptop in the evenings.. it's underwater pictures are mind blowing I love it.
it's not cheap but it's so worth it.. what else could you want from a camera, great pictures, shockproof, stand proof and waterproof .. oh and it looks funky too.
