      Not bad for still shots

The Fuji finepix is our family digital camera, previously I can say I have only really had good things to say about them, this changed my opinion somewhat although on a whole I am happy with this product.

My dad bought us this camera just as a sort of family camera that anyone can use if they are going on holiday. At first glance it is a very attractive smart looking digital camera, it looks as though it fits in and as though it's a pretty high end model. The camera has a nice black with a bit of silver colour combination which blends quite well giving it quite a glamorous up market sort of look. Just from reading on the front you can see that it's a 12 mega pixel camera. Quite high for an average digital camera and more than enough for the average user.

Functionality. If you purchase this plan with intensions to take photos of your children then I would think again, this camera is definitely not designed for this. Any sort of action shot use will not suit this camera as its delay is awful. As anyone who is familiar with a digital camera will know ( other than on a DSLR ) all digital cameras have a camera "lag" which basically means there is a momentary lapse of time between the button being pressed and photo being taken, unfortunately with this camera this period is quite long. I think if you're using it for any sort of very quick motion shots you are going to be disappointed. For still images and things like just taking pictures of scenery or family members at a monument or something then this camera is great, it easily produces high resolution images that look stunning with fairly small file sizes also.7

In summary I believe that this camera is great for jobs such as still photography but for moving pictures and other sort of action shots you are better off looking at something else before choosing this.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

A great little camera at a great low price!

I bought this camera to replace my aging Lumicron, and it has outperformed it in every area. The 12.2 megapixels produce a clear, colourful image and handle low light situations well. It's very simple to use straight from the box, full instructions are included on the cd-rom, but the quick start guide is enough to get you going. The controls are well laid out in the positions that are standard for most cameras nowadays, so it's quite easy to get to grips with. The menu system is simple and straightforward and makes changing settings a simple task, with user friendly names and descriptions of what each setting does.

The J32 features scene recognition technology which automatically selects the appropriate settings, all you need to do is point the camera and it does everything for you. This is a great method for the less experienced photographer, cutting out the need to try and set shots up yourself. Despite this there are also plenty of other pre-set modes included for you to fine tune your shots.

Face detection is also included which sets exposure and focus on the faces in your photos instead of the background, to ensure great portrait photos.

All the other features are pretty much standard stuff for digital cameras nowadays; video recording, red eye removal, 3 X optical zoom, self-timer. The battery life is reasonable and only takes about an hour or so to charge. The 2.7 inch LCD nearly covers the whole of the rear of the camera giving you a great view of what your shot will look like.

Reasonably priced, easy to use and good quality camera

I was recently given this camera as a birthday present and so far have loved it! I must admit I am not particularly technically minded but love taking good quality photos and this camera seems to fit the bill. It is really easy to use, I simply charged it up and then was ready to go- does come with basic instructions but pretty easy to figure out without these. The buttons on the camera are pretty self-explanatory with pictures to help you understand what they mean. I have been impressed with how small and light it is which makes it easy to take with you anywhere. It looks pretty sleek and stylish (I have this in black but I understand that it also comes in red). The pics I have taken so far have been pretty good, clear and bright. The only slight disappointment I have had is that there is not a 'black & white' picture option and do find it takes a few secs to take a picture, which usually is absolutely fine but sometimes for those spontaneous action shots is not quite quick enough! Overall though if you are looking for a reasonably priced, easy to use and good quality camera I would definitely recommend it! :)

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Excellent compact for those on a bit of a budget.

        First Impressions:
The Finepix J32 is a smart looking compact little camera, whether you take the black or red version. The casing is plastic, but it still feels quite solid. The only downside to the black model is that it shows up smudges and fingerprints very easily. You'll spend quite a lot of time wiping the casing. The camera is incredibly lightweight even with the battery fitted, weighing about the same as a decent mobile phone. It is also small enough to easily slip into a pocket and take everywhere. An AV cable, a CDrom containing the full manual, a second one containing the PC software and a charger complete the package. No camera case, no SD card and no PC connection cable I am afraid. So budget another £7-£10 or so for an SDHC card (4Gb card will hold over 600 photos at the highest resolution). You will also need an SD card reader if your PC doesn't have one, would you believe mine cost me £1 from a Pound Shop and works well.

At first the camera appears to have a lack of buttons on the top or back compared to most other makes, but once you get used to the menu navigation it is easy to use. Incidentaly, the manual mode goes further than other compacts from other manufacturers, allowing you to manually set a wide range of settings although of course, no manual zoom which is pretty normal for compact cameras in this price range.

        The Menu:
The menu system is straightforward and easy to navigate, although I would have preferred the more normal scene dial on the top that other manufacturers still use. It's not too bad, just takes a bit of getting used to. The menu is well laid out though and all the settings are easy enough to find.

        Everyday Use:
Most users will leave the camera set at full Auto, and to be honest, it does an excellent job of automatically selecting the best settings. Certainly better than both of my previous cameras (one a Casio 5MP and the other a Samsung 8MP), it only appeared to have chosen the wrong settings once or twice in over a month of use. Changing the settings to what you think is more appropriate is quick but again, as I said above, a scene selection dial would have been just that bit easier to use.

Taking pictures in very bright sunlight can be annoying, simply due to the fact there is no viewfinder and LCD screens can be hard to see properly in bright sunlight. This camera isn't alone in this, most manufacturers seem to have abandoned viewfinders on compacts. Increasing the screens brightness helps a bit though.

I've seen some reviewers complain that the camera suffers shutter lag. It does in full auto, portrait or in red eye reduction mode but this is because the camera has to measure distance to set auto focus as well as other settings. However in other modes such as sports the picture is taken much faster. Shutter lag is about the same as pretty much every other compact I have ever used.

There's no video button on the camera, you have to use the menu to switch to video mode. Slightly annoying but again, not unusual at this price range.

        Picture Quality:
This is where this little camera really excels, picture quality is first class, colours are bright and natural, even indoors. The flash doesn't give the washed out look that some cameras do when a person is close to the camera. Portrait mode especially is fantastic for, well, portraits and gives a flattering look. The camera also has a panorama mode that works very well. Macro mode gives very good results down to about 10cm. In very dark areas the auto focus sometimes has problems, but then so do most other compacts in this price range. I generally find manually setting a high ISO and increasing the EV settings helps a lot here.

        Other bits:
Battery life is very good, as it uses a lion battery. It will last most people anything from a few days to a week or more depending on how often you use the flash and how many pictures you take. It only takes an hour or so to recharge too. If you really want to make sure you never miss a shot, buy a second battery as it is not sealed inside like some so is easy to swap out. The LCD screen is prone to fingerprints and smudges, so buy a decent cleaning cloth and some screen protectors. Unlike some cameras this one has no black and white mode. Just use your favourite editing package to change the image to black and white, you'll have more control and get better results anyway.

        Conclusion:
For someone wanting a decent, small camera they can take pretty much everywhere, this is a great choice.

There are better compacts out there (even some from Fuji), but they generally cost more. Given that the price has been reduced in Argos to around £80 this camera is now something of a bargain if you can put up with some of it's idiosyncrasies.

        Good camera for novices. :]

this is a great camera for anybody wanting to start out in photography, packed with fun features. You will be amazed at how easy it is to get used to.

I bought the camera little over a year ago now and have been fond of it ever since my purchase. I think that the camera has a lot to offer for its price tag. The screen on the back may be a bit small but it does the job great. The menus are easy to navigate and use.

I also like the buttons they are good for people with poor eyesight as they are intuitively placed. So there's no need to go reaching for your specs to grab a quick shot whilst out and about.

I will also say that I am quite a clumsy person and this camera has been dropped a good few times now and no real damage other than one scratch on the side from when i put it in my pocket with my keys! Haha Do not do that people. :]

Great looking, fun to use camera. Can't go wrong for the price.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        Good camera for the price

The Fujifilm Finepix J32 is a good little camera, it has a plastic body, making it extremely lightweight, weighing just 140g. It is a 12mp camera, which is about the average at the moment for a decent camera. The Finepix range meant to have very good picture quality and this little camera doesn't let the side down, the pictures look very crisp and clean, even when blown up. It has a 3 times zoom Fujinon lens and a 5.6 times digital zoom, while that sounds a lot to most people, its not really that great in all honesty, when you are trying to take pictures further away, it can look a bit dark and crackly. The camera has 20Mb of internal memory, with an expandable SD and SDHC memory card slot, meaning that once you have filled one memory card you can swap to another without having to delete any pictures. The camera has a big clear 3 inch LCD screen, which makes previewing the pictures you take very easy. It has digital anti blur, which is very handy if you are trying to take a picture while not able to stand perfectly still, however this does make taking pictures slow, meaning that if you want to capture a moment it will take a couple of seconds, which is fine if it's something that is standing still, however if its an event then you might miss it. It also has face detection of up to 6 faces, which is very handy for taking group pictures. It also has movie capture option, which includes sound, which is very handy. The flash is very bright, which is very useful when in a dark environment. I has a rechargeable Li-ion battery, which actually lasts for a very decent amount of time, even with a lot of use.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

overall, a practical camera for general picture taking.

I recieved this camera as a present to take to America, I as a teenager found it very easy to use, the buttons are clear and the functions are simple yet effective and this camera was perfect for taking pictures of the beautiful sights in New York. It was practical for both landscape shots and also more up-close ones, the zoom worked very well and did not blur the image, it focussed perfectly. The only negative I found with it was that the video camera setting was very hard to find. You didnt have a button to change it from one to the other, you have to look through the menu and find the video option, it was long winded and I didn't end up taking any videos because i couldn't be bothered to find the setting!
I would strongly recommend this camera to anyone who is looking for a small, lightweight yet smart little camera to take on holiday with, or just to use as a general family camera. ****

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

I would recommend this to anyone. first time digi camera users too!

I have no idea of the price of this as it was a christmas present. However I will tell you about its ease of use and some technical bits if anyone is interested.

OK Its called the fujifilm finepix j29

        10.2 mega-pixels
        3x optical zoom
        2.7" LCD
        face detection
        and scene recognition auto

I have not idea what any of that means but as far as i can tell from using it it does a good job. It is light enough to feel comfortable but has enough weight for you to be able to feel that its still in your pocket.

I opened it Xmas morning, put it on charge and was able to take photos pretty much straight away without needing to read the instructions.

It comes with a charger, usb cable, hand strap and a rechargeable battery, It does however require added memory (purchased separately) unless you only want to take 5 photos at a time

It has a zoom function, auto mode where it automatically chooses its settings according to the shooting conditions. It has baby mode (for natural skin tone without flash), picture stabilization which stops blur of a moving object, portrait, landscape, red eye removal, party, fireworks, snow...pretty much everything you need for any situation.

you can turn the flash on or off and there is a self timer too.

with the simple touch of the play button you can quickly flick through the images and delete as needed to avoid any morning after embarrassments lol. You also have the option of red eye removal!!

It has a video function however unfortunately you cant zoom in or out while recording, although you can zoom in or out before you start recording. The other downside is that you have to go into the menu to change from video to camera etc which can be frustrating when you're trying to catch something happening.

The camera comes with a cdrom so you can install it and upload pics to your computer very quickly.

Overall i found this camera very easy to use. Its pretty self explanatory and has done me proud over the festive period.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

          Good little camera

I received this gift as a present from my friends and not meaning to sound ungrateful but there are some bad points as well as many good points. They bought me it in the red and its a stunning camera to look at!

          Design
This camera is slim and definately looks the part. It comes it 2 colours: black and red. I personally have the red one. The screen size (2.7") is very useful for viewing the snaps you have just taken and deciding whether they are going to make the cut or not! The buttons on the camera are easy to understand and I think anyone could pick up this camera and use with no difficulties. The weight of the camera is something that you will definately notice when using this camera. It feels empty!! It seriously feels like the battery is missing it is that light! This is probably a good thing right? Well I think it is!

          Functions
They are a good number of functions on this camera but also a number of basic functions that there isnt. For example, I love having black and white pictures, unfortunately this camera does not seem to have this function. My old camera did! The 3x optical zoom is pretty good on this but unfortunately if you are taking pictures far away-ish the picture can turn out quite dark and the flash just doesnt want to stretch that far!
This camera also has face detection which can be fun seeing 'who has a face'. haha. It is rather strange when someone's face does not get recognised as a face..weird! hmm.

          Useability
This camera is very useable and easy at that. One thing I would like to say is that it does seem to take its time when it comes to actually taking the pic! You have to hold the button down for about 2 seconds before it takes the picture, which can be quite annoying. Maybe I am doing it wrong? Besides it is a new camera. This 12mp camera does take really good quality pictures though which makes up for it.

          Price
This camera costs around £120.00 retail. I would say this price is fair and you could certainly do alot worse for that price.

          Expandability
This camera takes SD and SDHC memory cards, which work with no problems in them at all.

          Verdict
Good product and happy to have it! Just wish it was a little bit quicker at taking snaps! Especially to catch those moments that happen so quickly...
