A great investment for those wanting a digital camera with features to explore

As a design student I was in need of a high performance digital camera, with professional image quality capabilities, as far as digital cameras go. I have owned a Canon Ixus900ti for 3 years, and it is still as precise as when I bought it, despite a few bumps and drops along the way, which it's fully withstood.

At 10 megapixels, it's a camera which with the right light and shutter speed settings, at which there is plenty to choose from, you can really get some high quality results.

In terms of modes and settings, there is a "Manual", "Automatic", "Scene" and "Movie" modes, allowing the user to determine what fuction capabilities are required. This is particuarly useful as in Manual mode, the user can pick and choose from a generous range of shutter speed settings, and also colour enhancement (including B/W options and sepia).

The movie mode function is something I have used at a variety of events, including indoor concerts. Generally, the footage is of good quality, however is best suited to daylight filming. If you use movie mode whilst in a particuarly noisy atmosphere, the sound quality can sometimes be poor.

The lens and zoom functions (up to 12x zoom) is quite good, however sometimes if you zoom to the maximum allowance the image can be blurred.

One of the most helpful and perhaps also environmental advantages about the Canon Ixus 900ti, is that the battery comes with a charger, therefore there is no need to buy batteries for this camera. I have found the camera life for a fully charged battery (charging time to full is approx 2 hours), to be excellent infact it has only run out on me once in the 3 years I have used this camera, with only occassional charging needed.

Perhaps the only disadvantages is that in certain light conditions, particularly indoor arena's and with other challenging lighting conditions, the picture quality becomes diminished without the use of the flash.

Also, there is no internal memory which with other brands of cameras is a fairly standard feature, however if you invest in an SD card, this isn't too much of a problem providing you remember to check it's in the camera before going to use it, as your picture will not save otherwise.

Overall, I would say the Canon Ixus 900ti is a worthy investment for those who are looking for a reliable Digital camera, who want a reliable model with a range of options. I would say this is definately suitable to take on holiday or for nights out.

A good camera, but you would need to use flash for shots at night, but it performs well during day

The new and improved Canon Ixus 850 IS, which brings high expectations solely based on its looks. Classy and stylish, sums on the camera. It has a sleek body that is complimented by an elegant finish, the colour contrast caused by the various colours does make it an eye candy.

The controls and buttons are ergonomically placed, which means it is relatively easy to use the camera single handed if required. Most importantly, once you pick up this camera, you feel it is built sturdily and robustly, it is capable of withstanding the occasional knock or drop.

The display screen is quite well suited for the job, being reasonably easy to view at various angles. It also has a viewfinder which is can be a different experience of taking photographs or the only alternative if you are low on battery.

Not being just a pretty face, the camera has a 10 megapixel resolution which is good enough to print enlarged prints of your photographic artwork or creative shots. With a bit of creativity, you could start using these large prints as personal gifts to others.

The camera is quite fast at all of its processing task. It takes less than two seconds to turn on, even when shooting itself, the camera is capable of taking shot after shot whilst in normal mode without taking too much time to process. Its burst capabilities are also quite decent, being able to capture moving objects with enough detail and clarity.

However, it becomes slightly disappointing when you try to take photos in darker conditions, although the camera has a decent ISO range which in theory is supposed to make taking photographs at night perfect. It does face the problem of having noise if you do decide to capture photographs at night without using the flash.
