The flip range are a great set of video cameras for those of us that either cannot be bothered with or cannot operate effeciently technically demanding pieces of tchnology. For example my parents have the older High Def model in black with the ruber front (I rather liked this feature as it allowed you to stick the unit on surfaces shiny surfaces and it would stay on nicely, also it made it easier to pull the cover off to replace the battery). I have one because I am impatient with technology and generally I find that if something is too technical it only means more can go wrong.
So I have he Mini HD version, these units come in black or glossy white. But I think the black is better as my parents have a white version and the black velvet case it comes in was actually rubbing off on the white surface and made it look pretty dirty.
The Camera is pretty basic, It has a 4x zoom only, so again if you want to take those close shots, this camera bprbably isnt for you. But one thing it is and that is 'extremely easy to operate'. It has an on off button, a lock ofr that button, a slide down front to replace the AA batteries or charge the rechargable batteries that it come with. It has a 4x zoom and a zoom in , zoom out button and a volume button on the front. Th front is a simple four way cursor control where you can also replay your old recorded videos, flic through them and when you replay them fast forward or rewind them easily. In the middle of this cursor is a red record button where you start and stop recording and it dosent really get any more simpler than that.
Other then that the microphone is great for close up verbal, but for far away sound it is not so good, like the zoom function really. The Mini HD and bigger HD versions come to two hours of possible recording time before you have to download it to your PC and start again. But another drawback im afraid to say is that it the built in battery on the mini HD version, which is only rechargeble via the UHD port on a PC, will only last you an hour tops, so you will have to recharge it at least once before the recording time runs out. It is not much freindlier on the battery time on the AA battery version.
Both the Mini HD and standard version should set you back around £80 or £90 pounds on Amazon. My parents also got their unit on QVC, but I think that the cost was around the same price. As I said the colours come in black and white and the MINI HD version is slightly smaller but I dont think that it is any more lighter.
Wether your a vlogger, tourist or just like to campture the moment you need a camcorder to do so. I recently recieved a cisco flip ultra HD from a friend who is a vlogger and he could not rate it high enough for my needs. I have been researching camcorders for a while and the flip was always in my top 5 due to the fact of its affordable price tag and its extremley easy to use functions. I wanted a camera to campture the moments of my son growing up and my friend was kind enough to give me his old one he upgraded to some crazy money big bucks thing but through his youtube channel the vast majoity of his videos are on this camera and he loved it anyway just wanted to tell you guys the story behind how and why i got the flip.
The flip ultra HD is alot better than there previous versions of the flips because it allows you to record up to 2 hours of 720 HD footage. Its about the size of a packet of cigarettes but dont let that fool you its a great little piece of kit. Very portable fits right into your pocket no problem at all. There is a few downsides to the camera for me, One is that the battery takes upto 7 hours to charge yeah i know for that wee thing, the good thing for me is I only use it for short videos maybe 5-10 minutes long so I only need to charge it maybe once a week for a everyday camera I would stay away from this. The second downside is that it has no rewind or fast forward features this for me is the worst aspect but obcourse you can load it strate onto your pc and watch it but the rewind and fastward would of been a nice touch.
Its such a simple design press the button in the middle to start and again to stop. You want to play a video hit the play button you want to delete the video yeah you guessed it hit the delete button simple right. I would reccomend this camera for a person who is intrested in capturing the moment sure it hasnt the best features but I am not intrested in a picture perfect camera if I was I would be screwed cause i just cant afford one. I believe this cam was £150 new and that is great value to campture those important moments
The time had come whereby my mobile phone just wasn't cutting it with it's video taking abilities. Looking at the marketplace for ideas brought up various solutions ranging from budget camcorders, excellent still cameras that were capable of HD video and then the top notch camcorders. The Flip UltraHD sat right in the middle. Retailing at around £150 it first appears expensive. Holding it your hand you can start to appreciate the form and function this camcorder has to offer. It's nice to touch and hold and the form factor is small enough for you to place it on your person without any problems. The simplicity of use was also a major factor as this was going to be a gift to a non techie. You simply press the button to start and again to stop. How hard can it be?
I took the plunge and purchased the 8GB model (no expandable storage here!). Unpacking the device showed that it cam ewith a USB cable, rechargable lithium battery (good for 2 hours constant use) and user manual. The software - called FlipShare can be downloaded from Flip's website and this offers an easy way to retrieve your recordings from the device and place then on your computer or network. You can also easily upload to Youtube and various social networking sites. The simplicity is really key to how Flip market this device.
So what's it like to use? Well, it certainly feels good to hold and the materials are of good quality. To start the device simply press the power button. It then takes around 2 seconds to become ready - ideal when you need quick access. Then it's simply a matter of pressing the big red button and the recording starts. Press it again to stop it. It's as simple as that. You can also view your recordings on the screen and delete if necessary. No editing features are on the device itself although trim options are available on Flipshare. The quality is 720p standard and it writes in MP4 format. I have had some difficulties playing back the recordings on single core computers so I believe the recordings may have to optimised in these circumstances. Colours are good but low light can leave some pixelation when movement occurs. There's also a buttery smooth 3 time digital zoom you can also use.
Overall I think this is a great device. Simply to use and a pleasure to own.
The Flip UltraHD camcorder combines Flip Video's signature shoot-and-share simplicity with the power of vivid, vibrant HD video. With 2 hours of record time, you'll never miss another minute again. And because of UltraHD's pocket-sized portability, you'll truly be able to capture HD video anytime, anywhere.
