“ Brand: Walls / Type: Ice Cream „
One of life's indulgences.
I have a bit of a weakness for ice cream. I don't like the cheap and nasty stuff that gives you diarrhoea - unless I am constipated. I am not that keen on the really expensive stuff that is really rich and sometimes a bit sickly. What I like the most is a good quality plain ice cream that has a bit of flavour and a nice smooth texture. Walls Cream of Cornish fits the bill nicely for me.
I bought my latest tub for only £2.00 when on offer in Tesco. It can be anything up to £4.00 at full price, but I never pay full price for this or many other things because I am a tight git.
Walls has an established reputation for producing good quality products and ice cream with a high cream content and is generally held to be tastier than your average ice cream. There are no artificial colours or flavours in this product, although it does look suspiciously and somewhat unnaturally yellow.
In the same way that we all get frustrated when the butter goes impossibly hard in the fridge, I don't like ice cream that fights to be extricated from its container in the freezer. This ice cream scoops nicely straight from the freezer and has a nice creamy taste - as nice on its own or with an appropriate accompaniment.
Walls tell us that 2 scoops of their product contain 80 calories. 20% of the product is sugar. It is made from reconstituted skimmed milk, water, sugar, glucose-fructose syrup, fresh Cornish Cream (6%), whey solids, glucose syrup, butter oil, emulsifier, stabilisers, colours and flavourings. That's quite a long list of ingredients and I am slightly surprised that it isn't a bit more natural in its make-up. That said, I trust the brand and I love the taste and, together with Kelly's, it will remain one of my preferred brands when I am being a Greedy Fat Pig. I have no plans to stop being a Greedy Fat Pig, so this has a place in our freezer for infinity and beyond!
In Birmingham we've had an itsy bitsy bit of snow yesterday and now it's settled into sheet ice, the temperature in the car said it was zero and it feels like I've been transported to Russia. So you might think I'm a bit of a knob buying and eating (and reviewing!!!) a new ice cream that I found in Tesco yesterday.
I love creamy ice cream and when I saw this new Walls ice cream had EVEN MORE CREAM in it I had to get it even though it's deffo not the weather for a bowl of ice cream! lol
It's delish, one of the best ice creams I've EVER eaten. It's plain vanilla flavoured but you can taste the cream in it dead strong, it not only tastes mega creamy but has a proper creamy texture too. Each spoon of ice cream melts gorgeous in my mouth, it's quite a soft ice cream so melts a bit quicker than the harder ice creams anyway.
The colour of it is gorgeous. It's quite a strong yellow colour and as soon as I opened the plastic tub I could smell the cream in it as well as a very natural vanilla smell. The taste of the ice cream is a wicked mix of vanilla and cream, it's very sweet but I didn't think it was sickly or over powering at all.
You don't need to eat loads of this ice cream to satisfy you and I think that's because of how rich, creamy and sweet it is. I'm not greedy with ice cream because I'm just not that mad for such cold food, but sometimes with other brands I feel like I have to have a biggish bowl to get a proepr ice cream kick. With this one I had the smallest bowl ever, smaller even than my 2 year old sister would usually have but I still felt like I'd eaten loads. It's actually filling too and that's proper unusual for ice cream because you normally eat that for the taste and not to stop you feeling hungry!!!
I paid about £1.49 for a 2 litre tub and I'm happy with that because I'm the only one that eats vanilla ice cream in our house so I reckon this tub will last for ages.
