      Twister Ice Cream

Twister Ice cream It's lovely and sunny outside and we were all going to get an ice cream. I wanted something that was not too heavy like a cornetto, not too fruity but a bit of a mixture of both and what I found was a Twister. It is an ice lolly on a stick and was launched in 1982 by Unilever's Heart brand. It is described as having smooth pineapple flavour ice cream and refreshing lemon and lime flavour water ice twisted around a delicious strawberry flavoured water ice core. This lolly really incorporates all the different tastes and flavours I like in an iced treat. The lemon and lime part of the lolly to me tastes very limey with just a hint of lemon in my opinion. The fact that it is green also makes it more lime to me that lemon. This part is twisted around lovely smooth ice cream so with each lick you get a bit of ice lolly and a bit of ice cream. The ice cream is supposed to taste like pineapple but to be honest I think the lime flavour ice takes the taste away a bit so for me they just really taste like vanilla ice cream but it's still lovely and creamy and a really nice quality ice cream in my opinion. The best part for me though is the lovely strawberry centre. This is made of quite a weak strawberry flavour as it is quite watery and melts in the mouth very quickly but it has a lovely sweet flavour and is a nice treat to get to once you are through the rest of the lolly. A Twister only has 120 calories for a big version as they do come in smaller versions too but in my opinion the big is just about the right. I think that is quite a good calorie count for an icey treat and a perfect summer lolly.

Smooth tasting ice cream/lolly/ ; unique appearance

It was my children that first started eating twister a few years ago now. I actually wondered what they tasted like like and didnt start eating them until about 2 years ago. The taste was far better than i had expected. You can get various flavours of Walls Twister; but for the purposes of this review i am mostly focusing on pear and strawberry flavour. I think the shape of this ice cream/lolly is unique; as its states it is a twister; a combination of smooth tasty ice cream, with flavoured ice and a delicious flavoured icy centre. You can really taste the pear and strawberry blend and it all goes so well mixed together. The other great thing about Twisters is that they are low in calories. There are only 70kcal per regular size twister!! which is excellent news for dieters. The other day i was eating an ice cream that had over 300 kcals in it!! I shouldn't have even thought about eating that, considering i am trying to lose weight! (mind you it was delicious!) Theres a few odd ingredients! ; sugar, water, skimmed milk, glucose fructose syrup, vegetable fat, citric acid, stabilisers, reconstituted cream, beetroot juice from concentrate (a rather strange ingredient!) but you cant taste a beetroot flavour; colouring and spinach extract(another very unusual ingredient) and no, you cant taste any spinach in the Twister!. In a regular box, you get 7 x 80ml Twisters. I bought a box today at Iceland for only £2.00, which works out at less than £0.30pence per twister. Thats amazing value and well worth it. Other flavours available;Mini twisters; pineapple flavour ice cream with lemon and lime flavour/strawberry flavour. These mini twisters are as they state..mini.. a mini version of the larger twister, with a different mixture of flavours. These could be handy for younger children. However, i think you will find that its better value for money if you buy the regular size Twister as the mini ones are only 50ml in quantity per twister and currently these cost £1.88 for 8 at Tesco. However, you may prefer the flavours of the mini twister. All in all twisters are a really nice ice cream/lolly and the combination of both ice cream and flavoured ice, means you are not left feeling thirsty or dry afterwards. Sometimes i find that just eating pure icecream doesnt quench your thirst, it can actually make you feel more thirsty; thats why i love these type of combinations. The children seem to love these; if you havn't tried them out for yourself, why not give them a go. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

          Better than a smoothie!!

I absolutely love Twister lollies. They are the epitome of Summer; whether you are a child buying one from the ice cream man, or an adult enjoying one in the sun! Wall's Twister's consist of pineapple ice cream with lemon and lime and strawberry fruit ices. They contain no artificial flavours or colourings and I think they are considerably healthy with a mere 85 calories per lolly and contains real fruit juices. Maybe not part of your 5 a day but only 4% of your calorie intake and only 2g of fat means they are an indulgence that you don't have to feel bad about. The best thing about Twisters is the refreshing sensation on your tongue as you take the first lick. It's like drinking an ice smoothie and once you've had one, you can guarantee that you'll want another one. The price of a Twister is about 85p. This has gone up a lot since I was a younger and you could have probably got one for 30p but i'm sure they've got juicier and contain much less sugar! The packaging is a brightly coloured wrapper with a picture of a Twister and lots of fruit. It always stands out to me when I go into the ice cream section of shops. I am afraid I don't have a bad word to say about Twisters. One of life's pleasures, although I can imagine they are only enjoyable in the sunshine seasons!

          A great lolly

Who doesn't like a Twister?! I had my first one of these for the year at the weekend. It wasn't warm enough to be walking along the beach with an ice-lolly but I was determined for Summer to start!! I remember having these a lot as a child, and they are a great ice lolly, for children and adults. The lolly comes in a simple plastic wrapper which is easy to open. It is the best looking lolly I have ever seen! It is held on a woode ice lolly stick, and is a strawberry flavoured lolly, which is totally covered by a lemon and lime layer, and then has a pineapple flavour, which is green, which is intertwined (or twisted I suppose!) with ice-cream, giving it the well known Twister look. The Twister is great to look at, but it is even better to eat! It is the perfect ice lolly as it has the mixture of a refreshing ice lolly, with strong flavours, mixed with the lovely creamy ice-cream, and so you get the best of both worlds! The ice-cream part is creamy, although I wish they would put a bit more on the lolly. I always eat this part first! The fruity flavours are delicious. Each part, the strawberry, the lemon-lime, and the pineapple, each taste like they should, have have strong fruity flavours which are really refreshing. After my lovely Twister experience on the beach, I bought some to have in the freezer. The lolly at the beach cost me 80p, which I thought was good value, especially as some ice-creams, like Magums are now about £1.50-£2!! I bought some Mini Twisters, and they came in a box of 8 and are just a bit smaller than the original Twister lolly. It cost me about £1.50. I was very impressed to see that the Mini Twisters have no articficial flavours or colourings, and is filled with natural fruit juices! Yummy! The larger Twister only has 76kcal, which I think is great for a nice treat in the Summer, and I will definitely be making the most of these!!

A delicious and unique ice lolly with ice cream twisted round too

Wall's Twister is an ice lolly, which are available in standard and mini sizes. They have a very sweet taste of strawberry and lemon, which goes together very well. The twister is quite unique in the way it's a mix of both ice cream and ice lolly. You can get them in standard sizes or my favourite, which are the mini ones where you get 8 50ml ice lollies for £1.85. Currently at Asda and Sainsburys, there is an offer where you can get two boxes for £3.00. The ice lollies consist of a strawberry ice core with two flavours wrapped around them. There is a green lemon and lime stripe as well as a pale yellow pineapple stripe both twisted around the core. The lemon and lime bit seems to be ice too but the pineapple one is soft ice cream, so the varying textures make it quite enjoyable too. As you suck it, the outer twists blend together to give a lovely flavour and the strawberry inside is delicious too. It's very refreshing but it should obviously be kept frozen at around -18° or they will start to melt. They come individually wrapped in plastic packets within the box, which has a white, red and green Twister logo on the front. Their design is very unique and attractive and it's quite a good idea to have an ice lolly, which has both ice cream and ice lolly twisted round a different flavour core. It's really unique and the lemon and lime flavours contrast lovely with the strawberry one and the soft pineapple ice cream gives it a lovely texture and blends it all together. I'd highly recommend trying them one summers day as they taste fantastic! Thanks for reading, Dan ©

moorish lolly great for the hot days needs to be bigger though

Eating nice food is one of my favourite past times and this one never fails to please me especially on a hot summers day. They have a soft fondent type middle that is either green or red that has a tangy fruity taste to it, then you have two swirls that wrap around this centre which is a green or red fondant that is the same to the middle and a lemon flavour ice cream between that, this lemon flavoured ice cream is not that over powering and complements the fondent lolly type ice cream lovely. It is a refreshing Ice lolly/ ice cream that adults and children can enjoy. When I first had these ice creams they were full sized ice creams that i took great enjoyment out of eating. I would use my tongue to take out all the lemon flavoured ice cream then I would lick the green from the outside then suck the centre (my weird way of eating things). Now they do two different kinds as mentioned above but the ice creams are mini ones that I am a bit dissapointed with, I have not seen the full sized ones for many years if the manufacturer reads this please bring them back for me. I buy mine from asda for a £1 which is one of their deals and they can not be beaten at this price. I willsay that I get through a pack of these in about 2 days but their are 2 adults and 2 children who enjoy to eat them, so I now tend to buy 3 packs but this is well worth it. There are quite a few in a pack but being so small they are usually eaten 2 at a time oh why did they have to change the size. These are ideal for the children and great at childrens parties and are even better for a bit of nice for the adults when the children dissapear to bed.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

A classic treat but you have to hunt them down now

Wall's Twister ice lollies have been quite high up on my favourite ice lollies list for some years now, but in the last few years they seem to have stopped selling the full size twister ice lollies in multipacks. All you can buy now are boxes of miniatures (8 for £1.60 ish). I have only seen the "original" Twister ice lollies for sale in newsagents/ corner shops and in the individual ice lollies freezers in some express size supermarkets- like the Co-op. These sell for around 79-89p each. So it works out quite costly if you want to buy 8 for your freezer. The "original" twister lollies are divine. They are a mixture of pineapple flavour ice cream and lime sorbet with a strawberry sorbet core which is just fantastic as your last bite is always a half melting mass of juicy fruity sorbet! The miniature walls twisters are just too small and the swirls around the outside of them aren't big enough to lick around - one of the perks of the original Twister lollies. Twisters are great, but I really wish they still sold them in boxes of the full sized ones.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

            A great product for summer.

Twister's have been around for years, and are a staple of the Great English Beach diet, which is easy to believe with its brilliance. The product is tasty, high in quality and very refreshing for the perfect summer days. The product has great packaging that is very bright and easy to spot. It is also very easy to read, and open when on the beach, not causing any problems. The product is always fresh. There is very small text, making it quite hard to read if you want to read the diet information. When you open the packet, there isn't much smell which is pretty disappointing and doesn't encourage you to take a bite. However, it does melt very quickly which encourages you to get a move on! There is enough stick to hold onto to make sure that you don't get any on your fingers, which is great when you are out and about. However, it doesn't really matter as the product doesn't break apart very easily. The product has a great combination of flavours, with lemon, strawberry and pineapple working together to create a perfect combination. The ice cream melts in your mouth, combining the flavours but also proving a nice texture, with a soft ice cream. The quality of the product is very good, similar to most Wall's products! The product is always a good size, enough to fill you up and the different flavours are always up to scratch, with a good amount of each. The ice cream isn't very filling, but this doesn't matter as it refreshes you on a summer's day. However, it is very addicting and you will always want more. The price is very good, at around 75p, and they are available from everywhere that sells ice cream! There are also mini versions available if you want a quick treat to refresh you! The product won't make you feel guilty! It has only 58 calories and no artificial flavours or colourings, with hardly any sugar! Overall, a great product to refresh you! It has great flavour combinations and everyone, of all ages will enjoy it!

            Dig in and enjoy!

I adore Wall's twister ice creams. As I child I always ate them (they have been going 25 years now, believe it or not!) but in the last few years they seemed to have slipped my line and I havent had my usual quota of them! This all changed when they bought out new mini packs of them and decided to put them on special offer in Tescos. The mini twisters come in packs of six and are about half the size of a normla twister. This does not mean you only eat half the calories, it just means you end up eating two instead! The ice lollies come packed in a cardboard box, which is recyclable. Inside the lollies are packed individually in a clear plastic wrapping with the Walls logo on them. This packaging is also recyclable. The clear plastic wrapping is easy to tear off without making a mess of your ice cream or your hands. The ice cream is a twisted patten (as the name might suggest) of a variety of different flavours. There is an inner red stawberry ice core. On the outside is twisted lemon and lime ice and pineapple creamy ice cream which is lovely. All of the tastes individually are delicious and they work together to create great flavour and texture. I would recommend the twister if you like a combination of ice lolly and ice cream. It really does taste great. The only very minor downside (and now I am being really picky to get this out!) is that the lolly stick is very short at the bottom making it quite hard to hold meaning it can get very messy!!

              .

Thanks to the lovely weather we've been having down here for the past few days it means I've been able to munch on these ice cream/lolly to my hearts content. These have been one of my favourites for years, second only to the Fab. The great think about Twisters are that it is an ice cream and an ice lolly on a stick all at the same time! And the balance is just right, not too much of either one. The original flavour is a strawberry filling with a pineapple and lemon & lime outer layer. There is also another type where the flavours are switched, having strawberry ice cream and the pineapple...filling. It's unique in that the ice cream layer is in a green and white swirl. You can eat it in different ways as well, depending on what mood you are in. Personally I prefer to lick the ice cream section off altogether before starting on the strawberry ice lolly bit. Although appareantly thats not how you're 'supposed to eat them' so maybe it's more socially acceptable to eat it in one mouthful starting from the top downwards. Like all ice cream type produce they do get a bit messy when they melt a bit, especially with the stick so it's best if you want them to last to keep a tissue to hand. You also have to be very careful that you don't bite into it in the wrong place. Manys the time when I've seen people drop half of theirs on the floor. It's easily done but you don't want to waste the tastiness and letting the dogs have their share. You can get these in a small size, mini packs if you like from most supermarkets but whats the point in getting a small one. They're gone in a flash. The best way to have them is from the ice cream van although the prices have gone up over the years. I've been getting mine for 89p and it is the most enjoyable cold thing to eat on a hot day.

              I love twisters

Twisters are frozen ice lollys available from shops and ice cream men, usually retailing at around £1.19 each. They are my personal favourite. The lollys consist of green and red ice lolly, green on the outside and red through the inside. The lolly is creamy and soft, and full of flavour. They also have a cream coloured ice cream twisted around the edge, to give the lolly a unique look. The ice cream is pinapple flavoured, really thick and creamy and doesn't come too frozen, like some other ice creams. The different textures and flavours of the lolly blend together well, making it really tasty. The lolly is my first choice for a hot summers day, and first choice as a perfect hangover cure to get rid of those horrible dry morning mouths! I do my boyfriends head in sending him to the shop every morning after a big night out!

If there's a better lolly out there, I have yet to come across it

Alright, they must put something in these things. I swear, I'm currently on my 10th mini-twister from the two multipacks I purcahsed two days ago. How can one ice cream/lolly/treat be so moreish? Addictive chemicals, that's how! I'm on to you, Wall's! Seriously though, I adore twisters and I can probably categorize them as my favourite iced treat of all time. Whether it be the middle of summer, or the dark depths of winter, I still find myself being drawn towards them in the freezer sections of supermarkets. Firstly, the balance of ice cream and ice lolly is simply perfect. You get the best of both worlds with a Twister, and even though I generally don't go for ice cream snacks, Twisters would not be the same without that spiral of Wall's, intermingled with the green iced stripe, surrounding the fondanty red centre. Actually, I must expand on the centre of this particular ice lolly. I simply must. The red section is sublime! It almost feels abnormal, as iced juice cannot possibly be this smooth: the texture is superb and is an absolute pleasure to bite into (and doesn't give you the horrible shock you receive when biting into most regular ice lollies). In fact, were Wall's to market a new product called 'Twister middles' I would be the first in line to buy a pack. Unfortunately, I don't see this happening any time soon, so I'll just have to make do with the excellence of the current product. And I'm just fine with that.

              Twist of flavours

The twister is a classic and always popular amongst little kids and adults both. It is over 25 years yet shows no signs of going out of fashion. The actual lolly is a strawberry ice lolly base. Spiralling along the outside of it is a thick strip of a lemon and lime flavoured ice. Following its pattern also spiralling along the outside is a thick and creamy textured strip of walls pineapple ice cream. The only problem i find with this lolly is that the strawberry ice lolly base always seems to melt before the ice cream does so i have to lick the actual ice cream off quickly before it starts to melt. The twister is a favourite on hot sunny days (not that there are many) and is the perfect choice as it is both an ice cream yet an ice lolly at the same time. They can also be bought in multipacks and now a range of mini-twisters is available.

              great lolly for all ages

Ohhh i loved these icecreams. twister's are a cool looking icecream that appealed to me as a child. They are quite large, and do take a good while to eat, so be prepared. Walls twister, is basically a stick covered in strawberry flavoured water, this is then covered, in a twisting style motion, by lime flavoured ice and a gorgeous creamy pineapple. For me, i always use my tongue to get all the pineapple icecream off, this for me is my favourite, then i eat the lime flavoured ice. Then finally im left with the strawberry middle. For me im afraid this is the worse bit, and i often dont eat it all, its a shame as the rest of the icecream is delicious. For me what would have been better would have been a chocolate core of hard milky chocolate, yummy! You can buy twisters anywhere, you can get them in supermarkets in packs, or sold separtely in woolworths, etc. They are about 80pence a lolly, and one i'd definetely recommend. One word of advice, when you take the twister out of the packaging be careful, i once did it and pulled the twister off the stick!

                Advantages

                Disadvantages

Let`s twist again like we did last summer!!

I am never sure on a sunny day relaxing in the sun whether I want ice cream or a fruity ice lolly, thankfully with Wall`s twister`s I can have both. The twister is an ice lolly with delicious Wall`s ice cream spiralled round the outside of it. The red coloured centre of the lolly is strawberry ice this has a lemon and lime flavoured ice strip spiralled round it along with a pineapple flavour Wall`s ice cream strip making for a delicious fruity ice cream lolly. The twister first hit our shelves way back in 1982 and has been a favourite with many ever since me included. I used to be a huge fan of the wall`s Callippo but as I say I can never choose between ice lollies and ice cream so the Twister gives me everything a Callippo could but with the addition of delicious ice cream. A twister can be easily spotted in the freezer of your local store with its bright yellow packaging and the word Twister written in large bright white lettering. When you unwrap the twister you are greeted with a very fruity aroma and a very brightly coloured lolly which looks very appealing and when you take your first lick, suck or bite you will not be disappointed. The different flavours combine to create a real taste explosion on your tongue whilst refreshing you and quenching thirsts all in one go. I often find anything with citrus flavouring to be a bit too sour for my liking so the lemon and lime thing did worry me but the sweet strawberry centre balances the sour taste very well and creates the perfect combination of flavours. Twisters are available in single form at around 70p per lolly but can also be found in 4 packs in freezer stores or supermarkets. A 4 pack from my local freezer store costs me £1.69 (BARGAIN). You can now also purchase the Twister mini`s, exactly the same lolly just smaller in size, usually found in packs of 8 but the price I cannot comment on as I do not purchase my Twisters in this form. Twister`s are also completely free from Artificial colouring or flavouring making them less of a worry to give to our young ones and with less than 60 calories per stick we don't have to worry too much about our waist lines unless we binge on them of course. So a delicious cold treat for those summer days that isn't too bad for us has to be a winner and for me it gets a big ten out of ten! Thanks for reading! ©2008 lynseyb
