The product I am reviewing is Thornton's Mini Chocolate Fudge Brownies. I have been eyeing these up for ages and have wanted to try them since the end of last year but have been resisting. When recently popping into my local Co-Op store and seeing these on offer I thought I would give them a try. I have quite a sweet tooth and love chocolate, although I do try to not over indulge and tend to only have chocolate every now and again as a bit of a treat. I have a strict gym routine and healthy eating regime so I knew I wouldn't be scoffing these all within the next few days. These cute little chocolate brownies have been sprinkled with yummy chocolate fudge pieces and then dipped in smooth milk chocolate. The brownies not only sounded good but they look delicious from looking at the picture on the packaging. The brownies come in a foil wrapping and on the front it clearly states what the product it and who they are made by. It also has a picture of the brownies on a plate which could be used as a serving suggestion. On the back of the wrapper you can find a little information about the brownies as well as nutritional information and a list of ingredients. The brownies actually come in a gold colour try which is made from plastic. This separates the brownies from each other and also gives them an indulgent feel. I was looking forwards to having one of these as a bit of a treat for myself this week. As I am trying to cut down on sweet things and chocolate I was going to have to try and resist eating any more than 2 of these a week. Ideally I only wanted to eat one a week, but temptation might get the better of me.

These brownies are priced at around £1.40 which is for 10 mini chocolate fudge brownies. According to mysupermarket.com, these are only available to purchase at Waitrose; how-ever I purchased them from my local Co-Op store when they were on offer for just £1.00 which I thought was pretty good.

The brownies are about all the same size and are square in shape. They measure approximately 1" x 1" and around 1/2" thick. When looking at them I personally don't think they look anything special, although they still do look delicious. As soon as I opened the plastic wrapper and pulled the tray out which the brownies sit in I could smell a strong scent of chocolate which did smell nice, but some people would probably find this slightly sickly. Although the brownies are the same shape and size some of them look slightly different to other due to the large chocolate chunks that are in the brownies, this gives some of them a slightly different texture/look on the top. The brownie is definitely bite size, I took one of the brownies out and looked and it a little better. Now I could see that the brownie looked as though it has been split into two. The bottom part of the brownie was covered in a nice layer of milk chocolate, yet the top half was just left plain so had the appearance as most other chocolate brownies. On the brownie I was looking at I could see a large chocolate chunk as well. The brownies smell quite strong and a little sickly but having quite a sweet tooth it also made my mouth water slightly as well.

The first time I ate a brownie I popped the whole thing into my mouth and sank my teeth into it. The brownie was nice and soft but also felt slightly firm. My teeth sank into it easily without any problems and as I started to chew I could taste the chocolate. The more I chewed the brownie the stronger and richer the chocolate taste became. Soon my mouth was filled with a rich chocolate taste. Due to the chocolate chunks in the brownie this gave it a slightly different texture as you could feel your teeth go into the chocolate chunk creating slightly more texture, rather than the softness from the brownie itself. The brownie was very easy to chew and although it's moist anyway, it does moisten up a little more due to saliva in your mouth. After swallowing the brownie I felt satisfied and it definitely got rid of any sweet cravings I was having. The brownies are a little sickly and they did make me feel bloated. I certainly couldn't sit there and eat the entire packet in one day. I actually had a total of two brownies in one day and I couldn't have eaten any more than this. I do sometimes bite the brownie in half which reveals the firm but moist centre of the brownie. As the brownies are a little sickly, I found that they also made me slightly thirsty as well. They don't leave much of an aftertaste in your mouth, especially if you do have a drink after eating one.

The chocolate brownies sounded gorgeous before I had even opened the packet to try one. The picture of the brownies on the front of the wrapper also made them look very tempting. When opening the packet I liked the smell of the brownies, despite it smelling quite strongly of chocolate. Some people would probably find this a little too sweet or sickly though. The brownies do look nice, although they don't look anything special. I was hoping they were going to taste better than other brownies I have had before. The brownies are firm but also moist and my teeth sank into them easily. It wasn't long before the rich chocolate taste filled my mouth and I was getting a really good chocolate hit. I chewed the brownie slowly so I could savour the taste. I like that you get the texture of the large chocolate fudge pieces which are in the brownies, although there is probably around one per brownie. I found the brownie delicious, even if it did make me feel slightly bloated. The brownies are also sickly though which is actually good as it definitely puts me off eating too many of them. This isn't the type of product that you could eat one after the other because I think you would feel very ill if you did. There was very little after taste in my mouth after eating the brownies and I did feel a little bloated but because I only had one it didn't make me feel sick. In terms of value I think they were very reasonable at £1.00 but I think they are also reasonable at £1.40 as well as they are very good quality and taste delicious. I wouldn't buy these all the time, but would probably buy them again at some point for a treat.

Thorntons has been one of my favourite chocolate shops in the UK, and when they started selling their brownies, not in their shops but in big well known super markets, I decided to buy a pack at once. Here are my views on it:
These are very cheap in super markets, seeing as it is from an established chocolate company. You can usually get a pack for around a pound, no more than two, from most major super markets; so you can give yourself a treat without having to loosen your purse strings!
These are some seriously enjoyable brownies, some of the best I have tasted in a long while: they are rich, decadent just like brownies should be, and sure to satisfy your chocolate cravings. However, it is a little bit sweet (and therefore rather unhealthy) for my liking; nevertheless these are very extraordinary brownies, truly living up to its brand.
QUALITY AND TEXTURE:
The quality of this, as is with all of Thornton's products, immaculate; no tears in the packaging or brownies missing and so on. As is expected, these are not all exactly the same clones of each other- you notice handmade touches from a true chocolate company, which reassures you that these are not factory made and have the finishing touch that brownies so much require. The texture of these brownies, which is as important an aspect to brownies as anything else, is rich and chewy and yet slightly crunchy on top; there is nothing quite like sinking your teeth in to one of these after a long, hard day!
With twelve delicious brownies in a pack, these I find are fairly good value since one pack is a pound, so one brownie is just above 8p each- not too bad if you consider the prices most places charge for ONE brownie. However, it should be noted that these brownies are fairly small and bite sized, and despite the amount, they may not last you as long as you would think; though because of the richness, you may only have to eat a few to satisfy your cravings!
IN CONCLUSION ...? :
These brownies are delicious and from a brilliant chocolate company too and more of all, they are sold for a very reasonable price; I would highly recommend them.
I purchased these yesterday after looking for something small to treat my chocoholic's my hubby and daughter.
There were in Tescos for £1.55 although they can be purchased for cheaper else where I found out soon afterwards
I am not a fan of Thortons normally I find the chocolate very sweet and sugary so I was not keen to try but I knew my two would love them.
They are small chocolate brownie squares the one side of the square is covered in milk chocolate. They are small bitsize Ideal for a little treat for a little one. Also ideal for buffets and lunch boxes
My daughter tried them first and asked for more straight away so I tried one and they truely are scrummy they are melt in your mouth chocolate heaven.
They are not too sweet but very chocolatey for a small square they are packed with chocolate chunks.
There are about tweleve in the pack I would go an count to be sure but all have them have vanished not sure where but I think my two may have scoffed them all!
I would buy them again for a treat not an every week buy.
I was in my local Tesco not so long ago looking for some nibbles for a girly get together, and these were on a bargain price of £1.00 as an introductory offer, and they looked posh and attractive, and are made by the high street cocoa giant Thorntons, and nothing I've ever had from there has ever disappointed me! (this record is still intact!).
* Packaging *
The pack consists of a plastic tray which houses the 12 square mini brownies securely, and the tray is encased in shiny plastic/foil wrapping. The packaging looks very delectable in shades of brown and gold, with pictures of the brownies on the front, and looks very delicious and inviting. The Thornton's logo features quite prominently on the pack so you are in no doubt of which branded item you have just picked up.
* The brownies! *
These brownies should really have a warning sticker on them, once you nibble, you can't stop! They are so soft and lush, I would go as far to say they are perhaps the best brownies I've ever tasted! The chocolate is rich and tasty, and the brownie is soft and easy to bite. The bottom part of them is dipped in milk chocolate, and they have chocolate fudge pieces in them too. They went down a real treat with me and my lady pals, although I was also told off by them for bringing something which was so unhealthy and addictive (and yet so good!).
Each brownie is approx 1.5 inch square in size, and they are a good thick depth. They are perfect for parties or even general house guests, and could even be combined with other bite-sized treats from the Thorntons ready made cake bites range (they also do other mini items such as caramel millionaires style shortbreads - though I liked the brownies better!) to give your guests a range of choice.
* Price *
Although I got them at an introductory price of £1, I wouldn't even mind paying normal price for them (£1.42) as they were so nice. I probably wouldn't buy them purely for myself, but would definitely get them as a treat to share with others or for a party (so I can share the guilt of eating them!).
* Availability *
If you look for these in a supermarket, this product is situated in the ready made non-fresh cakes and treats aisle, along with things like Madeira cakes and Mini Rolls. I haven't checked but I imagine they would normally be found in large size supermarkets rather than smaller express shops.
I saw these in Asda about 2 weeks ago and picked up a pack of them. We often have Buffet days at work, so I got a pack of these ones and a pack of the Caramel Shortcake ones. Although they have the Thornton branding on them, both packs were seliing for £1 each. I think the right price of this is about £1.70 but they seem to have been on offer for quite some time.
This is 12 little bits of Brownie in a plastic tray which has a shiny coloured wrapper over the tray. The pack is mostly brown in colour and there is a nice picture of some of the little Brownies on the front. Brownies aren't my most favourite Cakes, but I thought they looked so appetising.
The pieces were quite small. They were little square chunks which were wide enough and quite deep. They consisited of a crumbly Chocolate mixture with quite a few Chocolate pieces and some fudge bits in it as well. Sure Brownies don't normally have fudge bits in it, but this added to the nice sweetness and slighty gooey consistency of these. There was a thin layer of Chocolate on the top. The Chocolate didn't seem overly sweet, but didn't taste cheap and nasty either.
They seemed a bit harder at the outer layer part of this, but when you bit into these then you could taste the crumbly texture and a nice moist part inside. They sort of tasted quite fresh baked in the inside, and were nice and tasty.
Per Brownie I think these had something like 80 calories. May not sound like a lot, but try stopping at one of these. I could eat the whole pack in 1 sitting.
These were nice enough and nicer that Marks and Spencer's version in my eyes. The price was good enough, but don't think they would be worth much more than £1 moreso for the size of these, as you don't get much grams in this pack.
A couple of weeks ago we had a meeting after work which was on quite a boring topic and was predicted to go on for a couple of hours. As I had a bit of free time during the last part one of the teachers suggested I pop to the local Co-op to get some treats to keep us going during the meeting. The basic requirements were that the food had to be delicious, full of calories and that it was able to be shared... but only with the people we liked! One of the products I selected was a packet of Thorntons Mini Brownies which looked enticing and exquisite from the pictures alone!
The mini brownies come in a black plastic tray which is encased in a plastic packet to keep them fresh and free from damage. The plastic packet is coloured black and gold and shows a photo of the brownies which set my mouth watering as well as some basic information about the brownies. The packet also advertises the product as 12 scrumptious chocolate brownies sprinkled with Thorntons chocolate fudge pieces and dipped in Thorntons milk chocolate." How could anyone resist? The packet itself is about ten inches by six inches and the tray inside is slightly smaller.
Each brownie is just over an inch in both length and width and slighter larger in depth, almost like a little cube really. The bottom half is dipped in chocolate which provides a casing while the top half is basically brownie with small fudge cubes protruding from the top and sides of it. The brownies are a typical brownie colour which is basically a dark brown colour and they have a lovely rich chocolate smell to them. Visually they look really appealing and they also smell extremely appetizing as well. I would dare anybody who saw a tray of these to resist one... or five in my case!
Now for the most important part, the taste test which I'm repeating for the purposes of writing this review. Upon biting one in half the chocolate on the bottom half cracked away and I had my first taste of Thorntons chocolate which is creamy and rich. The brownie itself was slightly crusty on top where it had been baked while the inside was gooey and soft. I've never tasted packaged brownies like this; they were so moist and sticky, almost like they were fresh out of the oven. The fudge added to the texture, they were hard on the outside and rich and creamy on the inside.
These brownies are absolutely delicious and mirror the high quality I've come to expect from Thorntons. They look delicious and they taste even better, they're nicer than any supermarket brownies I've ever tasted and really do taste like they've just come out of the oven. They are very rich which means that they can get quite sickly, I managed five the first time I had them but I now prefer to have just two or three and savour the taste. The three principal flavours of chocolate sponge, fudge and milk chocolate are perfectly balanced here to produce a great product.
Now in my mind there are two main downsides to these brownies... the first one could be solved quite simply as it's just that they're far too small! I'd much prefer a full sized one and can't understand why Thorntons haven't introduced one yet! The second downside is a little more serious and may well put a few people off; these brownies contain a whopping big 67 calories. No not 67 calories in the whole tray but 67 calories in each brownie! If you're watching your weight and calories intake you'd be best to steer clear of these, they are really what you'd call a treat product!
If the horrific calorie content of each chocolate brownie hasn't put you off then I'd certainly recommend going out and buying a pack. I bought mine from Co-op for £1.79 although they were on offer at the time of two packets for £3.00. They seem to be available at the majority of supermarkets although I couldn't actually locate them on the Thorntons website so I'm not sure if they're available in their stores. I'll certainly be investing in more packets of these in the future, they're a great little treat and are possibly my favourite chocolate brownies ever!
Thanks for reading.
I'm pretty sure i'm not the only one who crave a lot for sweets, chocolates, brownies, cookies , cakes and ice cream... Oh my!!! before i get carried away, i almost finish the packet without my knowing. I enjoy munching them while making this review. Is it a good thing? maybe yeah!!!
I actually tried controlling myself with all these fatty and full of calories product. But to be honest, i'm getting worse as i tried hard to deal with it . I crave a lot more as a result i have found another yummy treat when my craving starts to kick in. But nevertheless, I'm pleased to introduce you Thorntons mini chocolate brownie, sealed in a lovely packet with 12 mini brownies.
The packaging is very posh considering it's from thorntons. A combination of brown and gold, very appealing as you will notice the picture of those brownies on the pack. They also indicate that It was crowned a winner from grocer this year and branded excellence so i don't have any reason to resist it!!! Well, i have to make excuses for my unhealthy lifestyle, imagine that each one consist of 67 calories....Goodluck to myself!!!
Additionally, It's suitable for vegetarians and it has no hydrogenated fats which is great! see there are some good points! and of course don't forget to keep them in a cool and dry place once pack has been opened, store it in an airtight container to preserve the freshness.

Upon opening the packet, you will see the 12 mini chocolate brownie placed in a golden plastic tray. The brownie has a smooth chocolate coating on the lower rim and some of them has a sprinkled dark melted fudge. Really yummy and tasty. The taste is very sweet but not overly chocolatey, while the texture is exceptionally soft and gooey. Thorntons Chocolate Brownies are a delicious treat for any time of the day. You can choose to serve them with vanilla ice cream, or cool with a steaming mug of cappuccino or hot chocolate! Anyway you want it and I'm sure you won't regret trying them.
Another favourite brownie of mine is the one from starbucks which cost £1.50 a piece, obviously it is quite bigger than one of the mini chocolate brownie of thorntons but to have 12 and the taste is yummier and tastier i definitely have the cheaper alternative. I'm glad i found this in tesco for just a pound... a real bargain!!! but the original price isn't bad at all, i think it only cost £1.56... Thorntons also have caramel shortcake which i have'nt try just yet.....
Thank you for reading ;-D

If you love chocolate, cake and brownies you are going to love these I am pretty certain you will anyway. They are the best Chocolate Brownies I have ever tasted!
I first tried these a couple of months ago as I saw them on offer at Asda I think they were a £1 for 12 although they are not full size chocolate brownies they are mini a few is just about right but they are very moreish and after 2, I then want 3 and then 4 but I must tell you they are high in kals for the size. 67 kals for one! Which is great if you have a chocolate craving and just have the one! But really who just has one?
The packaging looks fairly appealing, what you would expect really from Thornton's. You can definitely tell its Thornton's from the brown and fancy font. It's not unique or funky but it does the trick. Anything with chocolate on it catches my attention anyway!
Upon opening the packet, it's not reseal able so be careful how you open it maybe put them in a sealable pot or something to keep them nice and fresh.
They are mouth watering to even look at, and smell divine of really more cocoa then the usual commercial chocolate. They seem to be dipped in chocolate just at the bottom.
When biting into the gorgeous chocolate brownie, your mouth will be watering like crazy by this point! It's smooth and seems to melt in the mouth. There is also some fudge pieces but I can't really taste them that much.
They seem to last a fair while too (sell by date wise) I got these a couple of weeks ago and forgot about them and they still have a date of the beginning of October.
However you should see the back and the huge list of the ingredients...ok here we go:-

The best drink to have with these Mini Chocolate Brownies is full fat milk, it goes so well! Honestly give them a try. Maybe as a treat and don't just eat 6 in a row like I have just done while writing this review as I feel already fatter and now feel sick!
I'm a chocoholic and I have always loved brownies as they are so moist and taste a lot more cocoa rich than your average muffin or cake. Although the texture and density of brownies can vary from dry and crumbly to fudge-like they are all usually more stodgy and more chewy than a sponge cake. I have tried just about every brand of brownie on the market but when I discovered these from Thorntons I realised I'd found the ultimate in chocolate brownies.
Thorntons sell these as a pack of 12 mini brownies. They are packaged as individual little squares on a plastic tray which is covered by a plastic wrapper. When the packet is opened at one end the tray can be pushed back inside to retain freshness. All information about the product is on the back of the outer packaging. The brownies contain some ingredients which may cause problems for some people - these include milk, soya, eggs, gluten and wheat. They are suitable for vegetarians. Nutritional values are provided per brownie and per 100g. One brownie portion has 67 calories and 3.1g of fat. The packet should be marked with a gold 'best before' sticky label as the date is not printed on the actual packaging.
The product was awarded with a special award this year (2009). They have a 'branded excellence' stamp from The Grocer Awards. The company won the 'Breads, Biscuits and Cakes' category at a ceremony that recognises "branded products across the food industry". This adds to the company's achievements of being the number one 'Chocolate and Confectionery' brand and eighteenth overall brand in the UK [data collected by Superbrands].
Each brownie is approx 4 centimetres sqaured in size. They are described by Thorntons as being "sprinkled with Thorntons chocolate fudge pieces and dipped in Thorntons milk chocolate". The brownies have their bottom half and lower rim coated with smooth chocolate. On some brownies there are chunks of dark melted fudge in the top of the crust but some have no pieces at all. The brownies that are lucky enough to have a large chunk of fudge in them are definately the tastiest. They stand barely more than half an inch tall but each piece provides enough sweetness and chocolate to satisfy even the neediest of chocoholics!
The texture of the brownie is ultra moist - almost as if they forgot to bake the brownies! They are certainly the most 'wet' and fudgey brownie I have ever had. The outer top shell of the brownie has a thin, slightly sticky crust. Beneath this it is like a thick cake mixture. The texture is something like a gooey pudding or truffle. The bottom layer of chocolate is silky smooth and has a beautiful mildly sweet taste. The aroma of these brownies is also mouth-watering - a rich, freshly-baked, hot chocolate smell. They simply fall apart in the mouth and seem to melt away into a big dreamy swirl.
Given the size of these you could really down a brownie in one gulp if you wanted to but it's best to take your time and disect this little cake as if it were a delicacy. It is like a finely made truffle sweet that should be appreciated.
Thorntons products can be found at all of their UK stores and now throughout selected supermarkets such as Asda and Tesco. They are so special that you might spoil yourself if you buy them too often! Perfect for party occaisons and a chocolate lover's fantasy come true!
