      A good product from Tesco

A friend of ours is having a bit of a Christmas party tonight and to help her out, a couple of us offered to bring a dessert along. I decided to try out a recipe passed on to me by my mother in law that requires some mini meringues as well as other things. Meringues are not usually a thing that I buy or eat much of, although my husband has already been eyeing them up in the cupboard and I have had to remind him they are for tonight's pudding. Rather than purchase the big meringues, I opted for Tesco's mini merigues. Now, my packet of Tesco mini meringues is slightly different from that at the top of the screen. The box that I bought continas 16 plain mini meringues, picked up in Tesco for a pretty reasonable £1.48. These tesco mini meringues that I purchased came in a tub with a clear lid. The nutritional information on the front of the tub states that each meringue contains 19 calories (a lot lower than I was expecting for such a sweet treat!), 4.5g of sugar and amazingly, less than 1% fat. On the front of the tub it states that these are 'delicious, light and crisp meringues ideal with whipped cream and strawberries'. There is allergy information on the back informing buyers that this product contains eggs unsurprisingly and that they are suitable for vegetarians. I was also surprised to learn that there are only 2 ingredients in these meringues - sugar and pasteurised egg whites. Before I made the dessert this afternoon, I couldn't resist trying one or two out before adding them to my pudding and I was very pleased with what I tasted. Yes they are very sweet, but that is to be expected from meringues with such as high sugar content in the ingredients. They are also nice and light, not dry as I have found other meringues to br or sticky. In fact, they are so light and sweet, that you could easily find yourself nibbling at them as a little snack, since both the calories and fat content are so tiny. When adding them to my pudding I had to break up the meringues and again, this was simple to do as they do not leave your hands sticky and gooey. Although I am much more a savoury food person than one with a sweet tooth like my husband, I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised with the taste of these meringues. My husband loves having two mini meringues with cream sandwiched in the middle, and at such a low calorie content I don't mind buying them for him. All in all, I think these are a reasonably priced treat - ideal for desserts, or simply as a sweet treat. I much prefer these mini meringues to the large nests and will most likely purchase them again.
