      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Helped me get through my illness!

After recently having a bad bought of food poisoning, my doctor recommended to me that a good thing to drink would be one of these "good bacteria" yoghurts and so I went for one on promotion which ended up being Danone Actimel with 0.1% fat (BOGOF at my local supermarket).

The bottles are about 4 inches tall and contain 100ml of probiotic yoghurt. Consuming it is simple, peel off the foil lid and drink! One of the better things about this particular drink is that it only contains 30 calories per bottle.

Now Danone do advertise that if you drink a bottle of Actimel every day for 2 weeks then you will begin to feel better in yourself but, from what I've heard, this tends to be hit or miss. A few people have come back and said that it makes a big difference but an equal number of people have said the opposite.

For me, I was recommended to use it by the doctor. He told me that when you are ill, you're body is full of bad bacteria and as you recover you need to replace this with good bacteria. After about a week I definitely began to notice a difference, my body was feeling a lot better. While of course this is also attributed to actually getting better, I did spend a week ill without drinking them and there was certainly a difference.
Flavour wise, there are 10 flavours available - Original, Blueberry, Cherry, Coconut, Multifruit, Orange, Raspberry, Strawberry and Vanilla. On top of that there are 4 fat free flavours - Original, Strawberry, Peach & Mango, and Raspberry.

Taste wise, I actually find these to be very nice. I have only tried the original one (both fat free and full fat) but would drink these as normal drinks if I could!

Should these be of interest to you, they can be found in the chilled section of the supermarket - funnily enough in or next to the yoghurt section.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

How do you prove it is good for you?

At a local trade show a few years ago, the wife and I noticed an Actimel stand in one of the halls. Now having seen the countless TV adverts with Actimel and how good it supposedly was for your gut and digestive system, and with both of us reaching that time of life where you start thinking 'every little helps', we decided to have a look to see what it was all about and came away with 6 bottles of Actimel to try out.

For those of you who don't understand Actimel, the sales pitch that we had from the stand was that it is basically a drinking yogurt which comes in a little 100ml bottle where you are meant to drink one bottle a day. It is a 'one-shot' bottle as such because it has a foil lid which you peel back and drink the contents down in one session so to speak. It comes in 10 different flavours and also has a low in fat range with less than 30 calories per bottle. The apparent beneficial element comes from the fact that each bottle contains a couple of active cultures, including 10 billion exclusive L. Casei cultures. Effectively it is a probiotic drink, which means it is full of live micro-organisms - which you drink and put into your gut and digestive system. Might scare a few people off when you think of it in that way, but probiotics are thought to be healthy for the body by strengthening the body's natural defence systems against illness etc. They are also meant to help your digestive system become more efficient (probably with those little creatures nibbling away at everything that enters into your system!!)

Apparently, you meant to use this for a few days (16 was recommended by the trade stand) before you would feel any benefits. Now we only had 6 each as the freebies, so to give it a good trial, we went out and bought a few further packs of 8.

So what's it like? Well the strawberry flavour that we had was quite palatable and tasty, a sort of very runny yogurt desert type in consistency, and you just get into a routine of taking one each morning with breakfast.

So after 16 days of trailing this product, were we bouncing off the walls feeling super-human? Well, not really. To be honest, we didn't really feel any different at all. We still felt the same, were still regular and the same in terms of bodily functions etc. It's not really clear if you are physically meant to feel any benefits from drinking this stuff, or do we just work on the assumption that our bodies are now working more efficiently and are more resistant to illnesses etc because all of these micro-organisms inside us are doing their job. It is a difficult one to prove, where I think the only 'factual' evidence we have is from all of the Actimel advertising hype, who want you to buy the product in the first place.

Whilst many might try and convince themselves that this product will give them super-human qualities and resistance to the dreaded Dr Illness, I for one can't see any tangible benefits of using it other than to increase the company's profit margins.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

A drink that will probably work for some though didn't seem to effect me.

We've all seen the "Mmmmm Danone!" adverts on the telly but the question is, does Danone Actimel actually work? Or is it a clever plot to trick us all into handing over our cash for a yoghurty drink that doesn't do any good?

I was a little dubious at first I must admit, but one day whilst doing my weekly shop I decided to bite the bullet and bung some in my trolley. There are 10 different flavours of Actimel: Blueberry, Cherry, Coconut, Multifruit, Orange, Raspberry, Strawberry, Vanilla and Original. There's also 4 fat free flavours: Original, Peach and Mango, Raspberry and Strawberry, all of which are 0.1% fat, so not really fat free but darn well close enough lol. I opted for the original Original :)

Actimel comes in pots of 100g, though you drink it rather than eat it. The Original flavour contains: Yogurt, Skimmed milk, Sugar/Liquid sugar (sucrose 7.3%), Dextrose, L.casei Danone culture (Lactobacillus casei DN 114001) so obviously if you're lactose intolerant or vegan this won't appeal to you.

The nutritional values stated for Original per 100g are:

      Energy (kJ): 304
      Energy (kcal): 72
      Protein (g): 3
      Carbohydrates (g): 10.5
      (of which sugars)(g): 10.5
      Fat (g): 1.6
      (of which saturates)(g): 1.1
      Fibre (g): 0
      Sodium (g): Trace
      (Equivalent as salt)(g): 0.1

At only 72 calories a pot this is fine for the calorie conscious, but what does Actimel even do? Well it claims to support your body's natural defences and generally make you feel better. But does it work? I hear you cry! I took one of these daily for a couple of weeks and I didn't really feel any better if I'm honest but I think that it probably effects different people in different ways.

The taste was fine, if a bit milky and bland and the texture reminded me of runny or thin yoghurt. I think that perhaps the flavoured ones will offer a more interesting taste. The drink comes in a plain white plastic bottle with a little foil lid that is easy to remove and I find them to be quite filling too so perfect if you want a snack.

However, I personally will not be carrying on with these at £1.56 for a pack of 4. I find them just too expensive for what they are, especially as they didn't seem to effect me in any way. Though I suppose if it supports your body's natural defences it must be very good for you. I felt exactly the same in myself as I did before I started to take them though I know others who swear by Actimel. It must all depend on the person.

Overall an ok tasting drink but expensive, probably worth trying even so as they could help with your defences. :)

        Disadvantages

        -

My husband and I were out and about at an exhibition (the Ideal Home to be exact and was about 2 or 3 years ago) and we came across an Actimel stand which was giving away 6 little bottles of Actimel to each person. I had seen Actimel advertised a fair bit on the TV and I am always around for a bit of a freebie at these sort of places so we ended up with 12 bottles between us.

I was told by one of the Acitmel representatives who was giving the bottles away that the way Actimel works is that the natural probiotics in this product are live micro-organisms which help the immune system to cope with illness and colds when the come along and will help to fight off infection whilst encouraging the stomach to absorb nutrients more readily. It did sound like a good idea afterall anything that helps boost your immune system is a good thing! Actimel is also supposed to help with bloating in your stomach.

The flavour we were given was the original flavour but I believe there are now strawberry and pineabpple flavours. Actimel comes in little white plastic bottles with a small foil life. The bottle has Actimel and Danone on it with blue skies and a sun rising over green hills. Actimel is stored in the fridge like you would any yoghurt.

My husband didn't want to try them so I ended up with 12 bottles to use myself. It is recommended that you try it for at least 16 days. When you taste Actimel it is not an unpleasant taste. It is like a thick and creamy plain yoghurt. It is definately not offensive to the taste buds! It feels nice as your drink it, nice and thick and a little bit creamy.

After using them for the full 12 days I had enough for I can honestly say I didn't feel any different. I am not sure if you are meant to feel different from using them but if you are supposed then I definately didn't but what really made me believe that they hadn't done much was that I came down with a cold whilst using them! So it sort of seemed like a defeated object! Obviously these had not made my immune system any strong or resistant!

I probably would never have tried Actimel if I had not got it for free. It is one of those things that you always think about trying but never get around to it so while I am glad to have tried it, I wouldn't purchase it myself as I really didn't feel any benefits. It is a hard product to recommend to people as each person may have a different reaction.

I award it three stars as it is in the middle because I'm very on the fence with this product.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Too expensive for hardly any benefits!

I decided to start drinking Actimel last winter. I'd just suffered from a series of colds in very quick succession and was feeling extremely run-down with no energy at all. I'd seen the Actimel advert claiming that it would make you feel awesome, or your money back!! I figured I'd give it a go, and if it didn't work I'd just get my money back. I managed to find these at Asda for a special offer price of £1.28 for a pack of 8 which I found to be a really good price, and have seen them a lot more expensive elsewhere, roughly about £3 for 8.

I'd never taken a probiotic drink before, and I didn't particularly like yoghurt so I wasn't expecting to like it much but surprisingly I found it to be really delicious! I felt like I was taking a healthier option by having it for breakfast with my toast. I felt like I was getting a lot more nutrients than I would originally and it really helped to set me up for the day! Since then I have tried other flavours and I must say that so far the strawberry is my favourite flavour, but the original is still nice-tasting.

How to drink it? Well it's pretty simple! The bottle is about 4 inches tall, and the lid is a foil covering. You simple peel back the foil and drink out of the bottle. As I love the taste so much I kept buying these JUST for the lovely taste, and not even for the health benefits.

Each 100ml bottle contains only 75 calories, and there is a low fat option if you are trying to lose weight too! It's also only 0.1% fat which is great too, however there is a very high sugar content, something like 3 teaspoons per bottle which is crazy!

So. Do I feel any different? To be honest, not really! I certainly don't feel like that lady in the advert who is running around like a maniac, and jumping about all over the show! I didn't notice any difference in my energy levels, I still felt pretty lethargic and run-down. I still felt like I was taking a healthier option by having one of these everyday so I still kept up with it and didn't ask for my money back!

There is one big advantage to taking these though, and this is when you take them whilst you are on antibiotics. Antibiotics are well known to upset your digestive system while taking them, and I suffer really badly on them because I am so tiny! Antibiotics work by killing all of the infection that you have inside you, but it can't differentiate between good and bad bacteria, and so it ends up killing all your good bacteria too! This then leads to an unpleasant upset stomach. Actimel is a probiotic yoghurt and so contains lots of this "good bacteria" that antibiotics can kill off. I've found that drinking a bottle of actimel everyday really helps to reduce the negative effects of antibiotics and I would definitely recommend it to other to take in that situation.

        Disadvantages

        Healthy yogurt drink

After reading positive reviews and being recommended by my friend I started using DANONE Actimel yogurt drink. These are currently under promotional offer of two packs for £4 which means each bottle costs 25p. A single pack costs £2.40 and contains eight 100ml bottles. Actimel is suitable for everyone from age 3 upwards.

Actimel is a probiotic yogurt drink and is produced by the French company DANONE. Actimel contains 3 different cultures: Streptococcus thermophilus and Lactobacillus Bulgaricus (These two cultures can be found in other regular yogurts). The third culture is L. Casei Danone and its presence makes DANONE Actimel exclusive from other yogurts. The product claims that each 100ml bottle contains 10 billion exclusive L. Casei cultures most of which remain alive in our body along the entire length of our digestive tube, which help in strengthening the body's natural defenses when they have been weakened by various external causes.

How does actimel play its role in our body?
Intestine plays a very important role in keeping people healthy. It helps with
Digestion of food: the intestine is a filter which lets the right nutriments (elements that are essential for the correct function of our bodies) through that our body needs to live
Protection: it has to push away undesirable elements, such as harmful bacteria.
It is scientifically proven that in the intestine Actimel, with its L. casei defensis, helps strengthen our natural defenses:
        - By helping fight harmful bacteria
        - By accelerating renewal of the cells; these are elements that are essential for the correct function of our bodies.

Actimel is a tasty drinking yogurt and is available in flavors such as Blue berry, cherry, coconut, multi fruit, orange, original, raspberry, strawberry and vanilla. 0.1% Fat drinks are available in original, peach and mango, raspberry and strawberry flavors.

The yogurt drink comes in a 100ml plastic bottle and is closed with a rip off lid made from aluminium foil. The drink is creamy and not too thick or watery. It taste's like yogurt and for me it is a bit too sweet. It does not fill our hunger and can be enjoyed as a light snack. It is advised to drink in the morning so that it can be more effective. Actimel should be stored in the refrigerator at below +6'C.

The plastic bottles can be recycled just like milk bottles and the cardboard carton holding the plastic bottles can be recycled too. Only the lid made from aluminium foil is not recyclable.

Ingredients used in original flavor are Yogurt, Skimmed milk, Sugar/Liquid sugar (sucrose 7.3%), Dextrose, L.casei Danone culture (Lactobacillus casei DN 114001).

Nutritional value of 100ml Actimel original is: 72 cal which is 4% of adult GDA, 3g protein which is 7% Adult GDA, 10.5g carbohydrates (of which 10.5g sugars) which is 12% of Adult GDA, 1.6g fat which is 2% of adult GDA, 1.1g saturates which is 6% Adult GDA, 0.1 g salt which is 2% of Adult GDA.

        A 100ml contains 0.21mg of vitamin B6 which is 15% RDA

A 0.1% fat original flavor contains only 28 calories which is 1% of adult GDA.

These are suitable for vegetarians and are gluten free.

Though I did not see any difference in my health I believe my immune system will get better and I am happy to recommend this product.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

          nice taste

I Have just had my daily dose of Actimel probiotic yogurt drink and I have now been drinking it everyday for nearly two weeks.

The little bottles are one daily amount so it's easy to remember to have one first thing in the morning before food or drink, I just have mine when I wake up and I'm waiting for the kettle to boil. Except for today when I forgot to take it until now.

You can buy them at the supermarket in packs of eight which is enough for your daily dose and one for spare until you buy more. They come in a little plastic bottle and are about four inches high with a foil keep fresh lid.
Just shake them up, peel the lid and drink and that's it.
A pack of eight will cost you around £1.25 depending on where you buy them from, I got mine for this price and it was a buy one get one free offer so I got a really good deal from the Co-op.

The flavour is a little strange with a hint of coconut in it, it takes a bit of getting used to but there are other flavours out now that you may prefer.
Each bottle is 100g which is your daily dose of probiotic drink. it contains L casei Imunitas cultures which is friendly bacteria for your gut.
It helps keep you healthy boosts your immune system and helps with digestion and keep you regular.

The yogurt drink is suitable for vegetarians and you can give it to children over three years old. it has 80 calories which is not too much and the question does it work well ....

I have been using it everyday for nearly two weeks and to be honest the first week I didn't really think there was a difference but now I feel less bloated than I was before drinking it daily and my freinds have commented on me being more bubbly and chatty, not that it makes your personallity different but I think feeling less bloated and sluggush makes you feel a bit down and your not on top of the world like you should be.
So, yes taking this everyday has make a difference I feel healthier and more active than I did before.
For this reason I would recommend it to you to try but you have to take it for over a week to begin to feel the benefits.

It's not a wonder drink by all means but it does really help you feel a little better.

          The ingredients are :-
Yogurt, Water, Skimmed Milk, Dextrose, Stabiliser (pectin), Sweeteners (aspartame, acesulfame K), L.casei Imunitass cultures, Flavouring

          Nutritional Information per 100g

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

Finally - a tasty snack without the calories plus added benefits!

Despite the constant Actimel adverts on TV promoting the wondrous health benefits, I happened to buy the item as they were on offer at Tesco and well because I like yoghurt. The deal is actually still going, if anyone is interested on the entire Actimel range, you can buy 8 x 100g pots for £2.40 or any two packs for £4.00.

The product is available in ten tasty flavours including Blueberry, cherry, coconut, multi-fruit, orange, original, raspberry, strawberry, vanilla and - not forgetting their fat free range containing only 0.1% fat and less than 30 calories per bottle, which consists of original, raspberry, strawberry and peach & mango. So you'll be sure to find an Actimel flavor to suit the pickiest of tastes.

So what is it exactly? Actimel is a fermented milk product which contains both 2 standard yoghurt ferments (Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus) along with an exclusively trademarked pro-biotic strain which belongs to the Lactobacillus caséi family.

Actimel is said to be the result of 15 years research and has been the object of at least 30 different scientific publications. So after all this research, what exactly are these health benefits it supposedly offers? Firstly the product is said to help us digest Lactose. Some people are intolerant or especially sensitive to ingredient which happens o be the natural sugar found in milk. Side effects include bloating, abdominal discomfort or diarrhoea. Actually, clinical studies have demonstrated, amongst other properties a reduction of the duration of diarrhoea in children, and of winter infections in people aged over 60.

Consuming yoghurt regularly also helps to maintain growth and development of bones in children and helps sustain bone strength throughout your life. Yoghurt happens to be an excellent source of vitamin B12, calcium, protein, and vitamin A which are essential for healthy growth and especially important in protecting us from Osteoporosis.

I don't know about the supposed health benefits, because in all honesty having consumed them regularly for a few months now, I don't feel any different health wise, but I certainly can't fault the taste. I personally, tend to go for the original Actimel yoghurt drinks, and, to anyone that's interested, the main flavours within it are caramel, cream, lemon and sugar - yum :)

Food provides enjoyment - so whether you happen to be dieting, looking for a good source of nutrients or just a tasty snack, with Actimel's large range of delicious flavours you can be sure they'll be something to your liking. I would certainly recommend this product, I can't promise you'll feel revitalised or rejuvenated as the product claims, but you can be sure of a delicious, healthy and easy snack that the whole family will enjoy!

              Disadvantages

Great addition to your daily diet

As I can see this is far the most advertised yoghurt drink out there. It is supposed to strengthen your immune system, help with digestion, allergies etc. A magic potion one would say.

              *ABOUT*

It contains yoghurt, skimmed milk, sugar/liquid sugar (sucrose 7.3%), Dextrose, Lactobacillus bulgaricus, Streptococcus thermophilus, L.casei Danone culture (Lactobacillus casei DN 114001) - yes these last three mean nothing to me either -, milk.

The L.casei one is supposed to be unique to this drink and very helpful in building your immune system and thus making Actimel really effective. There are studies that confirm that Actimel is good for your health - especially for keeping a healthy bacteria balance but this is also true with any pro-biotic yoghurt - to some extent that is.

              *HOW TO USE IT?*

Shake it and drink it. Simple.

              *HOW DOES IT TASTE?*

This is a difficult one, it has a unique taste to it, well all pro-biotic drinks have. Sure you have many different flavours and if you buy strawberry it will taste something like strawberry (having some taste of original Actimel mixed with it) but Actimel original is something special. It's really creamy and light. It has a refreshing taste, it does not remind me of regular yoghurt that much, it might have some taste resemblance to yoghurt that have grain in them, it's impossible to describe... But I absolutely love the taste! My boyfriend on the other hand totally hates it. It's specific.

Luckily if you don't like the taste of the original there are many other flavours to choose from.

              *DO I FEEL ANY DIFFERENT?*

I still can't go out naked in the middle of the winter, jump into the snow, run around and not catch a cold, but as far as small health changes go I can say I noticed some.

I don't drink, eat lots of dairy products since I have a mild intolerance to them (you don't want to give me milk) but I have no problems with Actimel. So I have been drinking it almost every day (with an occasional pause with cheaper brands) for over a year now and I can say I feel better. This can also be due my overall lacking of dairy products before I started drinking this but it can also be due to ingredients of this drink. I can say that my digestion certainly is better, I have less problems. I do have more energy since I drink Actimel - I drink it in the morning with my breakfast - it makes my breakfast more balanced which can also be a reason for better health.

I still got my annual cold but who knows if I would not drink Actimel I might had two.

Fact is if you feel better and even this is caused by a placebo, you are happier, if you are happier your immune system is better - so even a placebo is not actually a placebo... I confused myself. Back to Actimel...

              *FINAL THOUGHTS*

I can't say if this does wonders but I can say it does not harm you. It will make you fell better since if you will start to use it, your diet will automatically be more balanced which can only lead to god things. Pro-biotic will certainly help your digestion and maintain your good bacteria.

This is one of the more expensive pro-biotic but it's affordable - bit the taste (+taste selection) and quality are worth it. They often have good deals on the products - I see packages with gratis bottles every month so getting them at a fair price is not impossible (and stack them). Stores have them discounted often also.

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

I prefer the fruit flavours, but these are good!

I first bought Actimel after my mum was nagging at me about 'keeping healthier', after a failed attempt and convincing me to stop frying my foods and start using the grill she bought me, she told me about Actimel. Actimel is a yogurt drink which apparently improves the immune system function in adults with the presence of 'cultures' in the yogurt. Don't worry, I didn't know what 'cultures' were either, it is basically a sort of healthy bacteria that is advertised for drinks like Yakult. This is useful for building your immune system and helping to fight infections. In all honesty, I don't really care what Actimel can do for me. It is healthy, and it is so good!

As recommended, I started drinking one every morning. Apparently, it's supposed to make you feel active in the morning (that's the message I got from the advertisements), but I didn't feel any different after drinking one. I sometimes enjoyed taking one in the evenings, too. Especially after dinner.

The bottle top is a little big, so it's hard to get your mouth over it. I prefer not to put the whole bottle top in my mouth, but place my lips at the edge of the top. If you try and put the whole bottle top in your mouth, you won't get the full contents of it out. I'm sometimes tempted to lick the insides of the bottle to get every penny's worth, all you have to do, if you really like the taste, is place a little milk inside, give it a shake, then drink.

I personally find them very tasty. If you have ever tried Ayran or another yoghurt drink, it is quite similar. The taste is pretty sour, as natural yoghurt would be. However, it is quite nice. This is a yoghurt drink, and the consistency isn't any different from what you would expect. It is not as thick as a dessert yoghurt, although not as runny as milk. In order to drink it, you have to suck pretty hard in order to get it out, it doesn't just run out the bottle quickly as a liquid would. I really enjoy the consistency and taste of the drink, it isn't as sour or as think as Ayran which I enjoy.

You can buy Actimel at your local supermarket for £1.50 for a 4 pack and in my local supermarket I occasionally see 50% extra free '6 pack' which is useful. I buy these once a month as treat and I fairly enjoy them! You can get them in a variety of flavours which I now drink. The only fault I give these is that they don't give you a lot of information as to what they can do for you. Just names of bacteria that the average person don't know of!

                Advantages

                Disadvantages

Ok but not a strong recommendation from me!

I have bought these in the past when I was ill and could not hold down food. I had an ulcer and eating was painful. I found these drinks were excellent first thing in the morning to take away the hunger and coat my stomach without hurting the ulcer. I would highly recommend it for this use!

I am not so sure about it's claims of having good bacteria that aid digestion and ensure a healthy gut. I never found any improvement. I still caught colds and I wasn't prone to stomach bugs or indigestion to I can't comment on that.

The taste is sweet. It is a very sweet natural yoghurt taste but in a drink form.

I recently bought a few packets when they were on buy one get one free. Supermarkets often have them on offer. They come in packs of 8 so I had 16 and struggled to fit them in before they went off! I was on two a day at teh end and that's put me off buying them again for a while.

They weren't enjoyable to eat, I just thought of them as medicine!

                  Advantages

                  Disadvantages

Tasye okay but no startling health benefits

I had seen a lot of TV advertising for Actimel so when I saw it in Tesco in packs of eight little bottles, buy one, get one free, I decided to try it.

I frequently get a bloated feeling after eating and my digestive system can be a little sensitive at the best of times so I decided that if I tried this for sixteen days (enough bottles in the two packs) I would soon know if it worked for me.

I really did not fancy the strawberry or pineapple flavours that were on the shelf, so I opted for the original flavour. These drinks come in little plastic bottles with foil pull off tops and they should be kept in the fridge. The taste was just like drinking a thing kind of drinking yogurt and it was certainly not unpleasant.

The idea behind these is that the natural probiotics in this product, which are live microorganisms, help the immune system to cope with whatever come along and fight off infection, while encourage the stomach to absorb nutrients more readily.

All this sounded good I must admit and this was a pleasant product to test. I did think that I felt physically healthier after the first week of taking these but I think that it might just have been a psychological thing on my part.

After the sixteen days I ran out of them of course and just never thought about buying any more. I have to deduce from that that they made little difference to my general sense of well being because if there had been a big change I would have noticed.

There are pleasant to drink and while I do not dispute that they have some value health wise, I really do not think that they made that much difference to me.

Would I buy them again? Well, I might or might not. I am certainly in a hurry to go and find them in Tesco.

                  Advantages

                  Disadvantages

                  The Yoghurt with added placebos

Hi, I'm Bobby Charlton. You may remember me from such moments like Crikey! The Busby Babes have landed! or They Think It's All Over..It Is Now!. But now I'm here to tell you about Mmmmmmm (wait for it) Danone's Actimel, a drinking yoghurt that costs three times as much as normal yoghurts but has good stuff in it too to help people like me prevent shuffling off this mortal coil before we're ready.

Does Actimel work? Well they say it scientifically proven to help maintain your immune system so I guess it does. Late last year I was told that I had high cholesterol by my doctor so for some reason I saw these yoghurt drinks on offer and thought I'd give em a go. Now upon reflection I now realize that Actimel doesn't really do anything for that particular ailment. This one just boosts your defenses as it comes with L.Casei Imunitass, in fact I'm thinking of throwing some onto the pitch at Carrow Road this Saturday to help the team out at the back.

Does it really aid, the packaging is full of pointers telling you to go to their website (actimel.co.uk) but a glance at the ingredients tell's me it's thinned down yoghurt with some sweeteners, Imunitass cultures and a bit of flavouring. Personally I don't see how forking out nearly four quid on some of these is going to give you much more of a helping hand. I would imagine maintaining good diet and lifestyle would help much more.

That aside, I do find it a nice way to kick off the day, you wake up, neck one of these and you feel like you've kickstarted breakfast in a few seconds. I've been having the Original flavour which has a pleasant creamy taste, it's also 0.1% fat so as a breakfast supplement it's a good addition if you're watching the calories.

Personally I don't feel it's changed my body in any way, let's face it a yoghurt drink is not going to stop you catching the regular bouts of seasonal flu that do the rounds. So with that in mind is it worth forking out £4 for 8-12 bottles of the stuff? In m opinion no, they're incredibly overpriced fad products. I've been buying them on offer at £2 recently so for that it's reasonable. The packs also come with a £1 discount voucher so getting 12 bottles for a £1 has been a good addition to my fridge.

However at the normal retail price I'd rather spend the money on some fruit and vegetables and get more health for my money.

                    Disadvantages

A very nice drink made to help the body

Actimel is a drinking yoghurt which contains the bacteria probiotics. L.casei Imunitass is a probiotic strain. This good bacteria can help your body improve its immune system. Our bodys immune system defends us in fighting against illnesses and diseases. There are many factors that can weaken our immune system such as:
                    1. leading a stressful life
                    2. poor diet
                    3. lack of sleep
Of course these are only a few things that effect our immune system and makes us more vulnerable to illness and disease. As well as leading a healthy life style Actimel can also have a help in hand in improving your immune system by giving the body more good bacteria.

There are many flavours what you can have in Actimel, these are:
                    BLUEBERRY
                    STRAWBERRY
                    ORIGINAL
                    COCONUT
                    MULTIFRUIT
                    ORANGE
                    CHERRY
                    FOREST FRUITS
                    VANILLA
My personal favourite is Strawberry, I try to eat actimel every morning, as that is when its recommended to drink, I dont really feel healtier within myself, but it tastes so nice and well if its doing the job then theres not a problem.

                    Advantages

                    Disadvantages

20 years of stomach problems - gone!

I registered on "dooyoo" for the prime purpose of passing on my experiences of Actimel over the past 3 months.

For many years now I have suffered with chronic indigestion and acid reflux whenever I drank too much red wine, ate fresh white bread, consumed a very spicy curry and many other things that I guess are generally recognised as not being very good for sensitive stomachs. Night times have often been very uncomfortable and on the worst occassions I have actually choked on my own stomach acid - an appalling experience I have to say.

Consequently, Rennie has been my friend! I think I've personally kept Bayer Health Care in business for the past 20 years! I have never gone anywhere without some.

In July I moved jobs to a company that has an excellent sandwich bar. On my first visit I noticed a small fridge with a flip-top plastic lid full of Actimel right next to the checkout. So for grins I bought a bottle of Original flavour to try. As one who is sceptical about "health foods" in general, I certainly was not expecting anything spectacular.

Having switched many years ago to fat-free yoghurts, I found the taste of Actimel quite familiar and pleasant. Consequently I made it a habit to drink one every work day as a dessert after my lunchtime sandwich.

This has been going on now for just over 10 weeks. In the last 2 weeks I have noticed a massive difference in how my stomach feels. I have not had one single episode of acid reflux regardless of what I have consumed - and believe me, I've been pushing the boundaries just to see if I could break it! Instead of developing acidic reflux when I am hungry, I now experience normal hunger pangs - the feeling of which I had forgotten over the last 20 years.

Also, I am generally very susceptible to catching colds and coughs. Even with 2 young children starting a new term at school, I have not been ill once while those around me have been sneezing, sniffling and coughing!

I could not recommend Actimel enough, but one needs to give it time to work. An instant remedy it is not, but if used habitually I am absolutely convinced the claims made are true. And it seems that in my case it also helps in areas for which no claim is made.
