“ Brand: Barratt / Type: Ice Cream „
Now and again we like to have a nice frozen ice lolly as a treat in our house and the most recent ones we have tried are these Refreshers fruit flavoured ice lollies from Barratt's. These are a frozen take on the fizzy Refreshers sweets you can get in a roll packet. They are one of my favourite sweets so I was quite excited when my husband and little girl came back with a box of them from the shops. She chose them herself and I think she was attracted tot he bright packaging, it's pink with stripes of green yellow and pink and look very appealing to a young child in my opinion. I think the fact that a box of 6 only cost £1 was quite appealing to my husband too. These are a bit different that just a complete fruit popsicle. They have a bit of a creamy consistency to them and that is definitely the inclusion of skimmed milk in them that gives them that have ice cream/half fruit lolly look and taste. The lollies are different flavours and you can tell this because there are different sections to the lolly, each a different flavour, as well as there being a different flavour in the middle, although to be honest I think the flavours jsut sort of combine into one for me but still you get this lovely fruity mixture which is really pleasant. What I also like is that just like the sweets you get this subtle fizzy flavour int he lolly too. It's not as strong as it is with the sweets but it is still there and is a nice change to just a regular fruit lolly. The ingredients are listed as water, concentrated skimmed milk, sugar, natural flavourings of raspberry, orange, lime and lemon. Per 45ml lolly there are just 56 calories which I think is really quite good for a treat like this. One is definitely enough as I find them quite filling although I usually end up having 1 and a half as my little girl never fully finishes hers so I guess I am having a bit more than that but its not too bad in my opinion. A nice tasty frozen treat.
This is a review of Barratt Refreshers Ice Lollies which was buying a few months ago when the weather got a bit hotter. I have been suffering with heart burn whilst pregnant and had heard a rumour that the sweets Refreshers helped combat the pain of heart burn so when I saw these lollies I thought I'd give them a try! Looks like... The lollies are long and thin with four stripes along it (a bit like a rocket lolly) each depicting the pastel colours of refresher sweets. They have the usual wooden stick to hold and I would say they are a mixture of a fruity ice lolly and an ice cream as they do have a bit of an ice cream texture to them. Taste like I immediately liked the taste of these lollies, which had a bit of a fizzy flavour to them when they melt on your tongue and were definitely the same sort of taste as the fizzy sweets. Did they do the trick? They did temporarily fix my heartburn but it sadly came back and had to be dosed with Gaviscon as usual which lasts a little longer! My thoughts I liked these lollies but my husband did not really like them. This is fine by me as it meant he would leave them alone in the freezer for me to eat! We do seem to have different tastes in ice cream and lollies anyway so what I like, he doesn't really and vice versa although he will eat anything if he is desperate. Price For a while now, these have been marked with an on pack offer of £1 and you get four in a box. This really isn't bad when you consider that I paid £1 for a single similar sized ice lolly at the coop recently. It was a hot day and worth it though!! Final word These are nice to have in the freezer as a treat and really do taste different to any other iced lolly I have tried. I would say you will love them if you like ice cream and the refresher sweets. Whilst they are nice, they are not something I will buy regularly but I would get them every now and again, especially if they are on offer. I think there are nicer iced lollies out there that are similarly priced.
There are few sweets that tempt my taste buds (unfortunately!) but you can't beat a packet of Refreshers. Whilst perusing the frozen food section of my local supermarket I came across Refreshers lollies - imagine my delight!! The cardboard packaging is quite distinctive - very bright green, pink, yellow, white and blue. Each box contains 8 individually wrapped 45ml lollies. Currently a box costs £1.00, so each lolly costs only 12.5p! I made my purchase at Farmfoods, so far it is the only store in my locality that stocks them - I have also tried Tesco and Sainsbury's online with no luck. The lolly itself is is cylindrical in shape and split into four different coloured fruity sections. I found the first lick quite disappointing but soon realised it is not a lolly to be licked! In my opinion it is more suck and bite, squashing the ice against the roof of your mouth with your tongue. A definite taste sensation, sharp and fruity - very similar to the sweets. Strangely the lolly has a creamy texture, not watery as I had expected. It's incredible that each lolly contains only 56 kcal. Unfortunately, sugar content is quite high at 9.6g (11% of daily guideline amount for adults). There is only a trace of salt and 0.7g of fat, of which saturates 0.6g. The product contains milk (hence the creamy texture!) and may contain nuts. They are also suitable for vegetarians. Packaging boasts natural colours & flavours but also warns that the natural colours may stain. So if you'd like your tongue to fizz into fruity action, grab yourself a box (one may not be enough!) but be careful where you dribble!!
Refreshers Fruit Flavoured Ice Lollies ***Background Info*** Remember those sweets that you could buy as a kid that were little round tablets...Refreshers... well now you can get the ice lolly version! I always remember those sweets to be really fruity and fizzy so I was more than happy to try the ice lollies! ***What is it?*** Refreshers ice lollies are fruit flavoured ice lollies that contain the natural flavours of raspberry, orange, lime and lemon. It has the respective colours striped around it's body and is quite thin and long. When you bite into one, it has layers of the different colours and flavours. They come in a box of 8 so plenty to go round (or not, in my case) ***My opinion*** I absolutely love these ice lollies. They are aesthetically pleasing as they are bright and colourful and they just make your mouth water by looking at them. The colours really match up to the fruit explosion in your mouth as you take a bite. They are just like Refreshers sweets in the way that they are tangy and fizzy on your tongue. I usually take them out of the box and store them separately in the freezer as they take up harldy any room. ***Nutrition*** Refreshers Ice lollies contain natural fruits and flavours making them better than ice lollies which are stuffed full of e numbers. At only 56 calories a lolly and less than 0.7g of fat, they aren't too bad a treat. Lots of sugar though. For quite a small lolly it contains 11% of the daily recommended allowance. SUITABLE FOR VEGGIES. CONTAINS MILK. MAY CONTAIN NUTS. ***Conclusion*** I purchased mine from Sainsbury's, but most leading supermarkets sell these. At only £1 for a box of 8, you just can't go wrong. I really recommend these as your choice of summer lolly. One downside is that they are quite small and if you bite your ice lollies then this will be gone in no time! Good job there is 8 in the pack!!! Great for kids, great for adults, great for summer.!!
When I was pregnant I loved ice lollies despite most of my pregnancy taking place over the winter. Someone mentioned Refresher Ice lollies and despite never having one before I desperately wanted one. I scoured farm foods, Iceland and supermarkets but they were not available anywhere .I recently read a review on Doyoo and felt very excited to discover they existed so when I spotted them in Morrison's on Sunday I was compelled to buy them to although they did have a lot to live up to. The lollies come in packs of eight for £1 and on each one is encased in a bright stripped patterned packet that is very reminiscing of refreshers. When you open it is a cylindrical shape that reminds me of multi coloured mini milk. Nutritional information. Each lolly is 56g and contains 56 kcals 11.7g carbohydrate 0.7g fat I think this is very reasonable for a treat even if on a diet The two largest ingredients are water followed by skimmed milk. It does claim to contain natural flavours and colours. Allergy advice These lollies do contain milk and may contain nuts. I decided to wait until my son was in bed to savour my first one without having to share or interupting. The lollies have four different sections pink, orange, green and yellow I love the texture of these lollies as they are a not as milky as mini milk as but much thicker than a traditional ice lolly so is much more refreshing than mini milk. I found that when I ate the lolly as you sucked it there was a very sharp tang that gave it a zingy kick, and bizarrely although not actually fizzy do taste fizzy. These lollies while like any frozen desert obviously won't last forever but won't go so thin that I had to lick the melted ice before it dripped off. There is a warning on the box that the natural colourings may stain so be warned if you are giving to a child. I did feel very refreshed after eating these lollies and these have lived up to my expectations of a three year wait. If you fancy something cool, Refreshing and a little bit different for the summer I strongly recommend these. These are now my favourite Ice lollies and will definitely be repurchasing and if my son is especially good may even let him try one.
I brought these Refreshers ice lollies in Morrisons the other day when we had some proper sunny weather, if I'm going to have something cold I prefer ice cream but these was only £1.00 for 8 lollies that were quite big so I thought I'd get them to share with my sisters. They are shaped like a Mini Milk and come in individual wrappers, they look lovely because the ice lollies are striped with 3 or 4 different colours. They don't smell of anything much, they've got a bit of a fruity smell but that's about it and I thought I'd made a bit of a mistake until I bit into one. They are DELISH! The different colours are supposed to be the different flavours of Refreshers sweets and the lollies do taste a bit like sweeties. You can taste that they're a bit fruity but they've also got a wicked sparkly flavour, that sounds mad but you're going to have to get yourselves a box to try because I can't describe it any better than that! lol They're not exactly FIZZY but they taste like they're going to be a bit fizzy even though they're not. The lollies melt quite quick and I LOVE the taste of the melted bits because they deffo taste like Refreshers sweets..... only made of liquid obviously! lol You can also taste the different colour Refreshers and I know that the different colours all taste a bit the same in a packet of the sweets but with the lollies they all taste completely different to each other. These aren't madly strong tasting lollies but I think they're mega refreshing just like they should be with a name like that! lol I like the weak taste of them though because most lollies are TOO strong at the minute I reckon and the more taste is in them the less refreshing they are and that's the whole idea of ice lollies to refresh you. Recommended..... dead cheap ice lollies that taste delish!!!
