I used to use this site for chatting to my family who do not live near me, I found it at the time very useful and that was about 5 years ago, and I could speak over the voice facility and hear my family and use a webcam to see them at the same time, so found it enjoyable to see them moving around etc. I found it to be not so reliable at times though and found myself being cut off midway through a conversation and found it very annoying because I had to re login everytime, and sometimes it used to freeze and hold and by the time I eventually got back to my family they had waited to long and so left to do other things, which is understandable. They found the same thing happening to them and sometimes it was at the same time as my disconnection. This service has to be downloaded onto your PC and it just takes about 5 minutes and you then have to get an ID and password and then you just login and put these details into the box and click login and then you are into the messenger. There are different places you can visit from your messenger, such as email, which is a Yahoo email and games and even chat rooms which have different areas to visit, such as countries and areas within a country. I have been into some of the chatrooms but found them to be not so welcoming as some people would tend to boot a new person from a room, which I found annoying so I did not go into them very often, they do lots of games rooms too, which I found much better and found the games entertaining and fun. It is a free service and quite good if you have family away from home and want to catch up with them but I have since found a different way of communicating with my family which is a little bit better. I did not find it a good service for my liking.
I have a Yahoo account, I have not used it in awhile though but it is a good way of communicating with family and friends. The site is www.yahoo.com All you have to do is register on there and get yourself a ID , you choose a name that usually can say something about yourself although some people use their own names, which I myself would not advice. Once you have registered and got your ID you can go into the games section which I used to go to, and also a chat room. The chat rooms have different titles as to areas etc, and they are from all over the world, almost every single country has one. Some people float around different rooms and some people have a regular room, they sometimes make friends in one room and then take them friends to different rooms and float around. Some people in a regular room do not like newcomers arriving in there and so the newcomer finds it hard to fit in, once they go there for awhile they then are trusted and become a regular, it is silly the way some people behave on this site though, and I myself have seen lots of things happen as to some ways of bullying even. Some people find this site their only way of a life, which is fine is used correctly but in some cases it takes over their lives, and they rely on it to have a life, if you are very lonely and use it correctly that is fine but some people use it differently. I have found lots of people swearing on a microphone and using abusive words to nice people for no reason whatsoever, it is fine for adults but I certainly would not recommend it to younger people but you are not allowed to register under the age of 18 years old but some people find a way around it and register and use the site. There is a voice facility to use and webcam and so you can see the person you are chatting to and can also photo share too, it is exellent for people who have family living away from them as they can see their family from home to home and it is good. I like the games section the best and my favourite game is snooker and I have had some good games with very competetive people, it is fun and when your own score goes up, you want to have more games to get better. Ideal for people who communicate with family but I think other sites have taken over from Yahoo and Yahoo is a little dated now in my opinion.
Yahoo Messenger is a free software which you will need to install, and you can get to chat with friends and family, either through chat or simply with a microphone and camera. The latest yahoo messenger at the moment is the yahoo messenger 10, and at the moment that is the one I have installed. That for me is the best so far. For you to install yahoo messenger, you will need windows XP, Windows vista, or windows 7, if you don't have none of those reviews you have to install a older version. When you install it if you already have a Yahoo mail account you can log in using that email, though if you don't you will need to create a yahoo email for you to sign in to yahoo messenger. You can add people very easily, not by having generally there email but only there name and surname would do fine. You can put a comment about yourself, which will be shown to all your friends. Cleverly if you get a yahoo mail and you have yahoo messenger opened a notification will come up alerting you that you have one new message, I found this very useful, so usually my yahoo messenger is always signed on. There are three availabilities, Available, Busy or invisible to everyone. Available is when you are free to chat to anyone, busy is when you are busy and so can't talk at the moment, and invisible to everyone means you appear to be signed out, but really you are still online, and invisible is good when you are doing something which takes a long time, and so it wont get disturbed. You can have as many friends added as you want I believe, I am not sure if there is a maximum or not as I only have 13 at the moment. To chat to someone simply right click on the name then click on instant message. If they are online it will instantly get shown by them, if they are offline, they will get the message when they sign in next. There is also smilies which can be used when you chat to make it appear more live, and usually goes along with your expression of your message. Sometimes if you internet connection is very bad yahoo messenger wont even let you log in, but that is only sometimes. Just reboot your computer and hopefully your connection will be better! Overall it is a very handy application when you are either bored and need to talk to someone, or simply for work. It is free to join, and is recommended if you are into chatting, and social behaviour. Has to be a 4 star from me!
Yahoo messenger is a great way to keep in touch with people, and is free to download to your computer from the Yahoo website www.yahoo.com Yahoo messenger is just basically an instant messaging software, and I have used it for a few years now, as some of my friends didn't have MSN messenger and I wanted to stay in touch. I downloaded Yahoo messenger in less that 2 mins, and it was so quick and easy to set up, hardly any hassle at all, was so simple. I already had a Yahoo email address so I just signed in as soon as it was installed, but you don't have to have a Yahoo email, you can sign in with almost any email, and you can even add your friends who use MSN as it has an option to allow you to add those on a different chatting system! I find Yahoo messenger very easy to use, everything is laid out nice and easy, and I have had no problems in using it. I can even set it to sign in automatically and store my password should I wish to. Its simple to add new people to my list, just takes two clicks and done, and starting a new conversation with someone is just as a simple. I can see who is online and offline easily and clearly, and it dosen't make a lot of a song and dance when someone signs in, but does let you know about it, which is good for me as I don't like a lot of tah-da everytime someone signs in or out. If you want a nice and simple way to stay in touch with people all over the world, or even just round the corner, then Yahoo Messenger is the way to go.
Yahoo Messenger is a free service available to anyone with yahoo type web based e-mail address. It is an instant messenger application which is a great communication system. If you haven't used one before, or don't know what one is an instant messenger is a conversation which happens on screen. It is quite similar to a phone call. First, you select the peson you want to talk to. You'll need there address & they'll need to be online, but this is easy to sort out. Once selected a window will open. This is the conversation window. Anything that you or the person (or people as more than two people can chat at once) "send" will be displayed here. They way it works is you type what you want to say. It doesn't appear on screen as you are typing. To make it appear on screen you hit the enter key which "sends" the message. This makes it visible in the conversation window & instantly visible to all the people involved in the chat. As well as sending text, you can also send pictures & icons like smiley faces. Additional to this, you can also connect a webcam & let the person you are talking to see & hear you. They in turn can let you see the same stuff making video conversations possible easy & with the exception of the data download charges, completely free. I would highly recommend downloading the programme if you have a lot of friends who spend time online & you do too. If this is the case, you'll regularly have conversations with you're friends online, as whenever someone in your contacts list logs on, you'll get a message saying this. If you haven't got many friends, or don't go online that much yourself, it's still useful, but you won't use it that often.
I started using Yahoo Messenger a number of years ago! I have had a Yahoo account since I started using the internet so it was only a matter of time before I started using messenger too. To get 'Yahoo Messenger', you go to the website and download the application tool FREE. This download is quite fast on normal broadband speed internet and by normal I mean 56K modem so should take less than 5-10 minutes to download and install and start-up the whole application. Once downloaded, you get a 'Yahoo Messenger' pop up window on your screen and you log in using your email credentials 'user ID' and 'password'. You now also have the options 'remember ID & password' which saves your login details for the next time you log in and 'sign in automatically' which if selected means you will be signed into messenger automatically when you start up your PC (I try to avoid using this option as sometimes I do not want to chat to anyone when at my PC...:) Once signed in you have various options but shall only go through the main ones: MESSENGER: You can use this to change your 'status'. Your status is what your online friends see when they sign into messenger. This can range from 'available', 'busy' to my favourite 'Invisible' whereby no one would be able to tell you're online and best for when you do not want to waste time... While 'Invisible', you can chat to users you want to chat to but other users would not be able to see you're online. It was good that Yahoo added this option as it means you have a bit of privacy and not bombarded when with messages and chats when you do not feel like it. Under this 'messenger' option, you can also change your profile details, add an image or choose the option to use your webcam on 'my webcam' which is great because you can then see who you're chatting to.. CONTACTS: You use this to add your friends to your messenger list using the options 'add a contact' where you just type the person's Yahoo ID or email address, 'invite people to join' which sends your recipients an email or 'import contacts' from your Yahoo address book or Outlook account. Recently, Yahoo Messenger also added the option of being able to add hotmail or windows live users which is great because this saves you creating a seperate hotmail account for the purpose.. Within the 'Contacts' option, you can also check your 'voice messages and call history'. This is because Yahoo Messenger also enables you make FREE PC-PC calls to those on your friend list which is brilliant! You just need headphones and a mic for the purpose, plug them in and go..it's like you're on the phone but on your PC, this has come in handy and saved me money in paying for international calls and it is as clear as being on the phone.. ACTIONS: You can select this option to 'send an instant message', 'call a PC', 'send an email', 'send a file' or even 'share photos' with someone selected on your messenger list. You can also 'invite to view my webcam' and also 'invite to conference' if you wish to chat to a group of users at the same time (handy for online meetings with the girlfriends too..:) You have icons for most used options like 'add contacts', 'messenger list' and you can go to your email account and address book easily by clicking a couple of icons in messenger. When you click on an ID in your list, you get a small pop up that gives you options to 'IM '(Instant Message), call their PC or send them an email. When you select the option to IM, a pop up box appears and you can chat to someone in that pop up box, you can have many pop up boxes open and chat to various people at a go... At the bottom of the window, there's a selection of plug-ins that you can choose from, some of which include the Yahoo Music Launchcast radio and Yahoo 360. Other popular ones include Amazon and ebay. There's a 'Yahoo Search' at the bottom so you can do all your searches in the messenger box too. Yahoo Messenger is easy to use, easy to navigate and you can learn how to use it very quickly, the application has undergone a few updates since I first used it and yet remains very user-friendly. I mainly use Yahoo Messenger to keep in touch with my family and close friends that live abroad. It is an easy way to have a real-time conversations or chats whether typing or by using the PC-PC calls which are all FREE so making this little application very handy and you can save a lot of money on calls if you use it well. I'd highly recommend.... ©marina321 Dooyoo March 2009; Ciao.co.uk March 2009
Many users have given lot of details about Yahoo messenger, so I am not going to repeat it. I just want to share my experience and opinion on this software. I was bit late to join online bandwagon, around 1998. So I did not get a chance to use AOL or ICQ and ended up using Yahoo Messenger. It was known as Yahoo Pager that time, and it is now synonym for chatting online. When they added webcam features, It became ultimate chatting software. I used Yahoo most of the time after briefly experimenting with other s/w like MSN, ICQ, AOL etc. After the great legacy, then came the fall. Yahoo could not keep up with the demand and service started deterioting. It is almost impossible to do voice chat and webcam is always jerkey and freezes quite often. The overall experience of using yahoo messenger became synonym with frustration. They also started loosing focus on their primary aim - Chat, WebCam and AudioChat... They started offering funny emoticons, Yahoo environments and stupid plug-ins. and that gave a rise to spam and virus threats.. Then came the final nail to the coffin of Yahoo IM... Arrival of the SKYPE. Since SKPY improved their reliability and quality and also offered their LINUX version, I stopped using yahoo and started using SKYPE. I still use yahoo once a week as most of my friends are still stuck to yahoo. But I don't use it anymore for active chatting. The only feature I still like in Yahoo is their Photo Sharing, which does not kill internet by sending original file, and sends resized photos instead. Very easy and quick way to share photos online. Bye Bye Yahoo IM.. It was fun to use - back in 1999..
What it is and how to get it, Yahoo messenger is offered by Yahoo to anyone from anywhere in the world for free. It's a very convenient way to keep in touch with family and friends. Yahoo messenger can be downloaded from http://messenger.yahoo.com/download/ Users must have a valid Yahoo ID and Password to sign into Yahoo Messenger. Features of Yahoo Messenger Sending Instant Messages - Users can exchange real time messages with contacts on the friends list. Unlike e mail this is much more convenient as the person you are talking to is also online and you can get their response almost immediately. Users also have the ability to have a multi user conference where many people can chat in the same window. Sharing photos or files - Users can transfer files from their computer to other users through Yahoo Messenger. Just drag and drop the file or click on the send file button and start sending. Or photo-sharing can be used to share photos, just send an invitation to your friend and when accepted start sharing your favorite photos. Making Calls - Users can either call a mobile or call a friends computer through Yahoo Messenger. Right click on the contact you want to call and choose either call computer or call a phone number, and then dial in the number and make your call. Or click on the icon of the phone and make your call. Webcam chat - If both users have webcams, they can chat with friends while they can see their friend and vice versa. Playing games - Users can play games with other friends. There is a list of games like pool, chess, dominos, backgammon, toki toki boom, word racer etc. Emoticons, text, audibles and IMViornments - These can be used to make the conversation more interesting. Yahoo messenger has all sorts of cool emoticons like thinking, waving, laughing, crying etc. And you can change the colour of the text, size and type by clicking on the format button. Audibles are animated talking character. And you can choose an IMVironment, which changes the way your chat window looks. You can add more friends into your list at any time by clicking the add button on the main window and writing in their e mail address. Users also have the option of changing their status on Yahoo Messenger so that friends can see if they are available or not, or you could add a new personalized message to show your status. Yahoo messenger has many cool and useful features which make it a very useful program to have. I have been using it for the last 7 years and have liked it a lot. But of late I keep getting signed off and have some difficulty trying to log in, so I don't use it as much as I used to.
Yahoo Messenger is rather similar to MSN Messenger. It lets you chat live to friends and relatives and make calls and video conferences. The thing that I like about Yahoo Messenger is that when you insert smilies into your text they are animated and there is a wider range. The actions available are pretty similar to that of MSN Messenger, but with not as many choices for games. The clever people that make Yahoo Messenger still need to iron out some little problems that still occur when using the program. The problem that I encounter regularly is when the whole thing freezes and signs you out, interrupting your conversation. I thought that this problem was only happening to me but it seems that others do too. In other ways it seems to be working ok. Overall, Yahoo Messenger is quite a good program that does what it's supposed to do.
Along with MSN messenger, Yahoo messenger is messenger is also a must have for every computer with an internet connections. Yahoo introduced many new concepts in instant messaging. For example, yahoo messenger was probably the first messenger that would let talk to your contacts and stay offline at the same time. But now MSN has included this feature in their messenger as well. Initially, when the average speed of the internet was low, yahoo was really popular for voice chat and video chat. It takes comparatively less time to connect. The voice quality is good. The video quality is also good but both these depend on your internet connection. If you have a broadband connection and a good web cam then yahoo turns on its "super cam" feature, delivering the best possible video quality. Even though yahoo is faster and simpler, its messenger is loaded with plug-in, which can sometimes make it crash, as often happens in my case.
Yahoo has both paid and free services of Web Hosting,Match Making (Personals) Search Email, News, Chat, Photo Albums and other things, I believe next to Email and Search Service is YAHOO MESSENGER service. It is a CHAT software, downloaded to client computer (User PC) which in turn provides the environment to do instant Chat with users around the world. If voice chat is being done Sound waves are converted into data by messenger and Helped by Windows programme and transmitted thru Modem To ISP, YAHOO SERVER, to Other User ISP and to the Other PC which converts again from data to sound thru The YAHOO MESSENGER (Whew , Long Trek) each user Has reserved for him some Mega Bytes (MB) on Yahoo Servers which we are utilizing. Messenger itself has many Menus like any other Software each command with a Function attached to it. Thru it we can do use Camera Video Camera, File Transfers etc., Yahoo Servers act as a Bridge between 2 User PC's. We have services like Yahoo Ticker, News (Pop up window) Weather Forcast, Search The Web and others all free of charge. Voice Chat when first introduced might have given sleepless Nights to AT&T Executives and other telecommunication Companies (These services on the net spurred the Mobile Technology into rapid action). Intelligence is my greatest creation of all . Look !!! that intelligence put to little use developed a fantastic thing like YAHOO MESSENGER. I have seen many wives, mothers, brothers, fathers talking to their loved ones on YAHOO MESSENGER, Some on Voice Chat and some on Chat, GOOD ON YA !! YAHOO. A nice feature of Messenger is Voice Setup Wizard, it is very good, I used out of curiosity other messengers MSN Jango, ICQ, Excite, Lycos, Aol if on a scale of 1 to 10 Yahoo messenger is a perfect 10. Once a Yahooian always a Yahooian. Other messengers or Chat Clients as is said measure upto 6 at the most. We can Click off irritating news ticker or news pop up Window from the preferences window tab. Other choices can help customize everything to your liking. When launched , A cute smiley comes with its eyes clicking Red mouth opening and closing giving you patience upto Login. A Binary code of 01 - 01 - 01 - 01 recorded on my Disk can acquire identity of its own, its almost comes to Mind like a real object. I am waiting with bated breath for Other more wonderful things of Computer World. I am no techie so my terminology is very basic and very Amatueurish I touch and go, I make peep opening and its upto You to make the opening a window or a big gate.
Got to be the best Messenger so far... It's brilliant. The Emoticons are way better than MSN Messenger. They are more animated and they personally make me laugh. You are able to mark yourself as offline but still allowed to speak to people on there, whereas on MSN you cannot do this. You can have a drawing contest with the person you are chatting to, which is very fun to do! They do charge you, but you can send a message from your computer to a person on your lists' mobile number. You can enter an address for the person in your contact list.
YAHOO has launched its new messenger version 6.0. generally new version of a software or product means addition of new of features, enhanced security, brand new look and feel but..... the fact is that despite being a version enhancement there is nothing new in this yahoo version 6. It sucks right from the installation to the operatibility... infact, i would say its not version upgradation, its version degradation. During installation it tries to change your default e-mail client, tries to force you to make yahoo mail as your default mail, tries to add yahoo's toolbar companion. Your choice doesn't matter, it gives a little room to customize the installation. i couldn't uncheck the option of making yahoo mail as my default mail client. It puts its icons everywhere, in start menu, quick launch tray, explorer toolbar, desktop...everywhere. In working, certain good features have been completely discarded. You can't go and signup to play at yahoo games directly from the messenger. One of the biggest disappointment for gamers. You cant join users in chat, can't go to your favorite rooms directly ( At least you will have to hit the chat button once to go to a particular room and only after that you would be able to access the favorite rooms feature). Version 6 is a system resource hogger too. Takes good time to start and fairly good time to connect also. A very dull and slow in performance as compared to version 5.6. It Utilize more c.p.u power and RAM that means not suitable for older systems or barebone systems. Also there are some complaints about webcam support features. Even though there are some enhancements like direct access to Launch cast stations, stealth setting mode, new animated smiley faces, emoticons and audibles but these pros couldn't outperform the cons associated with the version. Version 5.6 is still better than this version. Overall , its a sucking, absurd version with nothing new and groundbreaking. Not recommended at all. Take a backup of your version 5.6 installation guys because probably it will delete that also during installation and who knows you might require that later.
Yahoo Messenger has been a valuable addition to my list of applications since the year 2000! Yahoo gave me my first email address and introduced me to cyber chat! The good and the bad! Back then I was preciousbabeuk! Since then, the Yahoo Messenger service has expanded a little with webcam link, emoticons, sending SMS, Voice Chat and more Web-cam Link You can view your friends webcam and almost as if you were talking in person! The relay on the camera is pretty slow though so don?t expect in depth chats!! Emoticons Happy? Sad? Angry? These little smily faces cheer up any message. We use simple versions on Ciao everyday! :0) . On Yahoo, you can have little devils, cowboys clowns, kissing, winking etc. Great fun! Send SMS There is a little MOBILE icon on your message window to send SMS messages anytime of the day or night! IMVironments These are backgrounds for your Message window. A bit like wallpapers on your mobile phone. There is one which is a bit like a Tekken game and you and your chatee can play against each other. Again the relay is pretty slow which is rather frustrating. Other examples are Pampers, Hello Kitty, cartoons and lots more! Voice-Chat Save money on telephone bills, or do away with them altogether! Speak or hold a conference with anyone. There is no delay on this so you can have a proper chat, although your voice may be a little distorted. All you need is a microphone to plug in and make sure your chatee has one too! Send Files Another option with Yahoo! Messenger is the send files option. This gives you the chance to download files from your friends computer. Th is is great if David has left a file at home which he needs at work! I can just send it. You need to place the file into your Shared folder and then click send! The Messenger service then asks the permission of the other person to receive the file! Dead easy and very handy!! When you are on Yahoo Messenger, you are open to all types of people spamming you with messages. AS with the Yahoo Chat. To stop this, there is an option to stay INVISIBLE so that only the people you want to talk to, know you are there. You can also personalise your online status message. I usually write something like, ?If I don?t know you, don?t bother!!? Friendly aren?t I! You may still get the odd message from people you don?t know or don?t want to receive messages from if they use a spamming robot. I know about these as my other half has used them before! . However, if you receive a message from someone you do not wish to receive messages from, you can simply click on the Ignore button in the message window and then close the message window. That person will be added to your ignore list and you will no longer receive messages from that person Store copies of your conversations You might like to save any conversations you have with other messenger users just in case you ever want to report any abusive behaviour you may encounter. This is a fantastic idea considering all the child abuse we see nowadays and how many people try to trick children. Word Filter set to strong Also, again with children in mind, you can filter any strong language so that your child or yourself is not being subjected to foul language! To start with Yahoo Messenger, go to http://uk.messenger.yahoo.com/. You are asked to choose a password and a user id. This ma y take a while as there are so many people with user id?s it is quite hard to find one that is not already taken! Then you are asked to input a few bits of personal details as usual, which is kept private. Then you are asked to input a word in to a box, as you see it! Apparently this prevents automated responses. When yu install Yahoo Messenger you get a smiley face icon in your taskbar at the bottom of your screen. When it is open, a login box comes up to enter your details and then another box comes up with your list of friends ID?s on. If you have no friends on Yahoo then get making some! You can enter a proper chat room if you wish, just to get to know people. I really use it get hold of David at work. I know he will have his Messenger on. Each time you receive a new message, the box pops up on the screen. Although any type of cyber chat holds its own risks, if you are careful, not giving out phone numbers, addresses, proper names etc, you should stay safe. Yahoo! Messenger never seems to have any server problems or other glitches. You can guarantee that the service will be working. It is simple to install and does not interfere with any thing else on your pc. Although I do not use the service to chat so much now, only to keep in touch with family and friends when there lines are engaged from using the internet, I would not dispose of it! I find it much easier than the MSN version of the service. Its costing nowt so you have not nothing to lose! Thanks for reading! Kerry xx
