“ A messaging service whose motto is "Quickdot. Messaging at the speed of life". „
Quickdot is simply a laughable service. I don't understand how this project ever saw the light of day. If I were a big chairman type asked for approval of something like this, I wouldn't hesitate in saying no. Quickdot claims to some extent, in different words to be the future of messaging. The successor to email. Now, Quickdot has been going for a while now, and I don't see email addresses dissapearing. It doesn't help then that recently the service asks for a fee, as it seems to be gearing solely for corporate environments. I still have no idea how it'll benefit them as it didn't benefit me or my friends back then. The service is nothing more than a fancy clogged up message board where you leave notes and all your friends have to be registered to to your page, which makes it even more yawningly tedious. And er, I think that's all it is. Apart from displaying, adverts, offers and tips. It's basically just a waste of space. Why Quickdot's still survived is still beyond me. Basically Quickdot is not a great new online communications tool, and isn't anywhere near a threat to email, no matter what novelties it has. Email is still the most convenient. If you want to communicate effectively online, use anything but Quickdot. Signing up is just a waste of time. Just sign up to a regular (and less obtrustive) message board service with password protection for your friends if you must have something like this, as that would be better. There's nothing further more to write. Don't bother visiting the site. If you already have chances are you'll have forgot about it instantly.
Quickdot is a messaging service which is designed to eliminate the time spent on emails. The whole idea of it is to eliminate time spent checking and writing lengthy emails by sending quick "post-it notes" instead. I signed up last year after being shown the website by a friend and I can definitely say that it is worth while doing. I will try and summarise the advantages of using this service:- 1) LAYOUT - After registering you receive your own quickdot board which is basically one page with all your contacts on it. Next to each contact is a space for them to write their messages to you and a space for you to write messages back. The whole concept of this is to allow you to see all your messages in one go. This is very beneficial for unlike email you do not have to enter each one sepearately. Furthermore, it is possible to separate your contacts under different coloured tabs (e.g. Friends, Family, Work) which makes it easier to indentify your contacts and messages. 2) OLD MESSAGES RETAINED - Another reason which makes quickdot so much more useful than email is that when you post a message to one of your contacts, it retains what you have written even after it has been sent. This means that when returning to your quickdot board you can see what you wrote previously before you write another message. This, of course you can not do with email which is another reason why quickdot is so advantageous. 3) GROUP DOTBOARDS - In addition to these features, not only can you have individual contacts on your board, but it is also possible to have group dotboards. This is good if you have a group of friends and you want your message to go to all of them. 4) SMILEY FACES!!! - Quickdot has a range of smiley faces which you can include in your messages. Just by typing :) or ;) as well as a range of others, once the message is sent, the reciever will see a 3-D smiley face!! 5) KNOWING WHEN MESSAG ES HAVE BEEN RECEIVED - Underneath each contact it tells you whether they have viewed the message and at what time they did. This means that your friend, relative etc. will have no excuse about not dotting you back if they have viewed your message! 6) ORGANISER - Above you list of contacts is a space for important dates such as birthdays. A mini calender is also included on the page which is good. 7) EMAIL REMINDERS - Some people say that this feature is hypocritical, for one argument is that the whole point of quickdot is to stop you from writing emails. However, this is not the point of quickdot. It is there just to write quick notes which makes you more inclined to message people frequently. Therefore, when you check email, it is quite useful to know if you have been messaged through quickdot, which makes these reminders quite helpful. I would most certainly recommend quickdot to anyone who finds email a hassle if all they want to do is write a quick note. However, I would also expect that someone who prefers email would find it useful too. Quickdot is there to complement email - One is good for sending short messages and the other is great for writing longer letters. That is the fundamental difference and therefore the usefulness of each one will depend on the person.
