One Piece is currently one the highest selling shonen manga in Japan and around the world and sales are still going strong as million of readers have tuned in to the adventures of Luffy and the Strawhats crew as they travelled through one of the most dangerous oceans in the world known as Grand Line trying to fulfill their ambitions.
Through the imaginations of Echiro Oda, who has create a vast and vivid world where pirates roam the seas in search of adventures, friendship and treasures i and one such treasure is called the One Piece, a legacy left by the Pirate King Gol D Roger after his execution by the hands of the World Government. The words just before his death echoed throughout the world about the existence of One Piece and subsequently lead to the Golden Age of Piratery.
Monkey D Luffy is one such young boy who strongly belived he can find the One Piece and be the next Pirate King but to achieve his dreams he has to conquer the seas and needs to assemble his own crew. In this Volume 2, still searching for new crews, Luffy and his first mate Zoro stumbled across an island which is being bullied and terrorised by the notorious pirate Buggy The Clown and his gang of pirates. Not wanting to see injustice to innocent people, they decided to take on the pirates to make sure no one is afraid of Buggy anymore
The volume is filled with bright and funny moments and you get to see more fight scenes including the Santoryu style fighting (3 sword ) by Roronoa Zoro and we are also intoduced to the next potential Strawhat member in the form Nami, a thief who has excellent navigating skills that could be quite handy for Luffy. We also get to see how Luffy tackle Buggy who is also a devil fruit user and how he uses his Rubber Rubber abilities during fight. While the pacing can at times feels a tad slower, this is by no means an uninterested volumes as Oda likes to take time with his colourful characters and his world-building abilities and it is until in later volumes and chapters that some of the most emotional and stonger story arcs starts to kick off and eventually how new members will join Luffy. By readint this volumes it is quite easy to get accustomed to the character designs which is partly inspired by the Dragon Ball series.
One Piece is one brilliant manga that we still have around for years and Eichiro Oda has managed to keep the storylines fresh while never forgetting the sense of adventures, discoveries and the bonds of friendship that are quite common in Japanese manga. The adventures and tribulations of Luffy is still being carried out whether in manga or anime format and for those who want to induce themselves into the world of One Piece, what better way to start from the very beginnings.
