“ Upper York Street, Bristol. „
Lakota is one of Stokes Croft's most popular night clubs, hosting such nights as Itchy Feet, Blow Pop and Tribe of Frog. This is the club to head to for nights that begin early and finish twelve hours later.
The club is a little difficult to find as it is down an alley, and the entry way is small, which means on busy nights the door-people are often eager to rush you through. The cloakroom is very small and the staff are slow, and there is never an orderly queue which can cause a few scuffles as people push and shove to put their things into it.
The club is surprisingly big inside, with a great soundsystem that pumps the bass throughout the entire club. However, when busy the main room can become very packed and hot, and the club can be difficult to navigate. Also, the toilets are very dingy, unclean and often the doors don't lock and there's no toilet paper.
Lastly, drinks are epically expensive, as with many nightclubs, so it's not ideal for students on a tight budget. However the atmosphere is always great and the nights they put on are always of a high quality and great fun.
I've only ever visited Lakota in Bristol once, and I rate it very highly. After finding the club (which takes a while) we stood outside waiting to be let in. From the outside it doesn't look very impressive, but once inside I was a lot more excited. You enter on the ground floor, which has another 3 floors above it. This floor has the toilets and you can get into the lower part of the main room. Walk up the set of stairs infront of you and you will be greated by the Main room. When I was there at GBH this was playing host to the likes of Mark EG, DJ Energy and Sharkey and was absolutely pumping all night. There is merchandise on sale and some wicked inflatable spiky things 'float' in mid-air constantly being inflated and deflated. There is a bar in this room, and I found the bar prices reeeaaly expensive. Out of this room, and you are greated by another room which is smaller than the main room, but larger than the top floor. This is a nice room, but very basic and has no bar :o( Up to the top floor of Lakota and ws my favourite room of GBH, the hardcore room playing host to the likes of Dodgee, Brisk, Vibes and Force & Styles. Off this upper floor main room is a bar room with a bar and a nice shiny floor which I found fun sliding on when it was covered with peoples sweat which had dripped from the ceiling. In the main upper floor room there is a stakc of speakers right across the right hand wall and they give off a good bass sound. I would recommend Lakota as a nightclub, however I think that the prices are way to high.
