A lovely combination making for a very tasty treat

I love chocolate, and I love most brands but Galaxy always seem to just edge ahead in the taste stakes. I recently picked up a bar of Galaxy Raisin, Almond and Hazelnut. I got it from Tesco, it cost £1.00 for a 120g bar. It should have been £1.26 but was slightly reduced.

      Wrapper
The chocolate comes in a blue foil wrapper and a paper sleeve. It is in the usual Galaxy brown colour With the Galaxy logo across the front It also shows a hazelnut and an almond. In the bottom left corner they show the calorie content of one piece of chocolate. Its 21!! Considering that the 120g bar had 30 squares of chocolate that's far too many to think about. The GDA's are on the back of the wrapper. For those who would like them here they are:-

      Per piece
      Calories 21
      Sugars 2.0g
      Fat 1.3g
      Saturates 0.7g
      Sodium 0.00g

The ingredients are also on the back of the wrapper for any allergy worries you might have.

      The Chocolate
As I mentioned there are 30 squares of chocolate in this bar. Each one has a very elegant swirly pattern on the top of it with a tiny "g". The smell is just wonderful, sweet creamy and rich, you just know its going to taste divine. And it absolutely did. The chocolate had plenty of pieces of nut and raisins in it. More almond than hazelnut I thought. But every single square had plenty of pieces in it. I'm not normally a fan of nuts but for some reason I like fruit and nut chocolate. The nut pieces were quite small but big enough to be "nibbly". They were the perfect match for the raisins.

Overall I really enjoyed my Galaxy experience. I ate far too much even though I shared it with my fiancé. But as the saying goes, a little of what you fancy does you good. Mmm not sure about that last bit now. But never mind the chocolate was delicious, smooth, sweet and creamy. And as Galaxy now show the Rainforest Alliance symbol on their chocolate I don't feel quite so guilty.

        Try it

I am not keen on raisins but I adore Galaxy and nuts so thought this would be worth a try. I bought a 120g bar in Asda for £1.

The chocolate is wrapped in two layers of packaging. The inner layer is a blue foil which helps it stand out from the other bars in the Galaxy range. The outer wrapper is brown like the rest of the range with Galaxy written in brown italic writing. On the top right hand corner it has a picture of an almond and a hazelnut.

100g of this chocolate will give you 533 kcals, 6.9g of protein, 52.2g of carbohydrates of which 51.1g are sugars, 33.0g of fat of which 17.4g are saturates, 2.5g of fibre and 0.08g of sodium. The chocolate bar contains milk, soya lecithins and nuts. It may also contain traces of sesame and wheat.

The bottom of the chocolate bar shows loads of pieces of nut sticking out but I only saw a few pieces of raisin (thankfully). The chocolate is smooth, creamy and rich as it is just normal Galaxy chocolate. The flavour of the nuts combined and I couldn't really tell them apart when I was chewing. The pieces of nut were quite big so I got a real crunch when I bit into it. The chocolate coats your throat as you swallow it and I got a really nice nutty after taste. I definitely prefer this to the Cadbury's fruit and nut bar.

A smooth, creamy bar with a bit of crunch

Ooh! A bar of chocolate I hadn't tried before, how did that happen?

I discovered this bar of Galaxy when I went shopping on my new budget and decided to get chocolate on offer, instead of my usual expensive luxury bar.

This one was on offer for £1 so I thought I would try it, and I'm glad I did because its delicious.

The closest chocolate I can compare it to is Cadbury Fruit and Nut, but this Galaxy option is nicer because it isn't as sweet and is much creamier.

The nuts are finely chopped so they are easy to eat and you don't risk breaking any teeth, while the raisins are plump and juicy but not overpowering.

Galaxy have got the balance right with this bar of chocolate, as there are more nuts than raisins, meaning it's sweet and slightly chewy, but not too fruity. As a result you can really taste the smooth Galaxy chocolate as well.

        Probaby not the healthiest, but to be honest I never look at the nutritional information on chocolate as its too depressing and ruins my treat! For those who want to be informed here goes;

        Per 100g;

        kcal 533
        Protein 6.9g
Carbohydrate 52.2g, of which sugar 51.1g
Fat 33g, of which saturates 17.4g
        Fibre 2.5g
        Salt 0.20g
        Sodium 0.08g

All in all I can't fault this cholocate bar, except to say its very moreish and therefore easy to consume the whole 120g bar without guilt!

Yummy Chocolate But I Won't Get This One With Raisins Again I Don't Think

I've never been that mad keen on Galaxy chocolate but when it's in the house I won't refuse a few pieces! I didn't know they did a Fruit & Nut version until I saw my mate with a big bar the other day!

It's actually called Galaxy With Raisins, Almonds And Hazelnuts and it's loads nicer than the Cadburys version I think.

The chocolate is typical Galaxy, mega rich and creamy with a gorgeous texture that starts melting as soon as you put it in your mouth. Each square has got loads of fruit and nuts in it, more than in a bar of Cadburys Fruit & Nut. You can see all the bumps at the bottom of the chocolate bar that shows how much is in it.

I'm glad that there are more nuts than raisins in this because I'm not mad keen on the squishy feel on raisins with chocolate, this is good though because there are tonnes of nuts and the raisins just give the chocolate a nice chewy texture.

The almonds were a bit disappointing because they've hardly got any flavour at all, but the hazelnuts are crunchy and majorly yummy. I think the Galaxy chocolate goes proper nice with the hazelnuts because of it being so creamy, it's just a gorgeous contrast of tastes and textures.

Even the raisins are quite nice, they're sweet and chewy but because there aren't that many in there they don't take over the taste of the chocolate like happens with some bars.

I quite enjoyed this bar, but if I'm honest next time I'll probably go for the Galaxy that has got the roasted and caramelised hazelnuts in it. Only because of me not liking raisins much though because even though they didn't spoil it for me I do prefer chocolate that hasn't got these squidy little things in! lol

My mate brought this big bar from Poundland so it was obviously £1.00. I enjoyed eating the couple of squares that I had but like I said I'll deffo go for a different variety next time.

I'm disappointed, to the extent that II'll reveal to the kids the secret hiding place of the 2nd bar

I am a big fan of Cadbury's Fruit & Nut but also a fan of the smoothness of Galaxy chocolate, so when I saw this bar of Galaxy Raisin, Almond & Hazelnut I thought I'd give it a try. Plus, I've not made it to my five a day yet so the raisins must count for something towards that surely!

The packaging follows the Galaxy tradition with a light brown outer paper sleeve overprinted with dark brown text and an inner foil wrapper. It differes from the standard chocolate bar in that the light brown seeps into a violet colour on the right hand side of the sleeve and the foil is also a violet colour rather than the usual bronze. It's different without being unmistakenly Galaxy.

I bought a 120g bar, well two actually as they were 2 for £2 in Asda. The chunks are thinner than those I am used to in a Cadbury's Fruit & Nut bar. The chocolate is as smooth as I expect from Galaxy but somehow it doesn't go as well with nuts and raisins as creamy Cadbury's chocolate does. My main gripe however, is the lack of raisins. I cannot fault the quantity of almonds and hazelnuts (although I am not a big enough nut fan to be able to distinguish the two once crushed and enveloped in chocolate) but Galaxy has definitely been mean on the raisins. No hope of meeting my five a day quota here!

            For the figure conscious;
100g of this will set you back 533 kcal, 33g of fat and 51.1g of sugar.

            Allergy advice;
Contains nuts! (and milk and gluten).

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

Great flavours that all compliment each other, well worth trying

Like most people I am familar with Galaxy chocolate (okay, so I admit it, I am a chocoholic - don't knock it, I enjoy it. So when I spotted this new flavour I felt it was my duty to give it a go.

              So, what is it ?
Galaxy - Raisin, almond and hazelnut.
              (chocolate bar)

Is the packaging all flash then ?
Actually no, it's not. In fact at first I didn't even realize it was a new flavour. The wrapper is the usual beige/brown with the name Galaxy in brown lettering, then, underneath that, in quite small type it says Raisin, Almond & Hazelnut. In the top right corner there is a small picture of one raisin and one almond and one hazelnut, so they are't exactly making a feature out of it.

What about the chocolate bar ?
Well, it is Galaxy, so you are on to a winner aren't you ?
A word to the wise - if you like your chocolate chunky, then this isn't for you. The bar itself is very slim.
It is very easy to break into pieces.
There is lots of chocolate here, which fully coats and encases the fruit and nuts.
It says on the packet that it contains 11% raisins, 4.5% almonds and 4.5% hazelnuts. It is absolutely packed with almonds and hazelnuts but I only found three pieces of fruit.
One thing that I really liked about this, was the fact that the pieces of nuts were quite small. I hate it when you take a bite into the nut and it turns out to be so hard you think you've lost a tooth. This doesn't happen here as the nuts are nibble size which means you can chew them easily and you get much more flavour that way too. Good idea.

              And the flavour ?
              Scrummy yummy.
The milk chocolate simply has a smooth, silky texture, the almonds and hazelnuts really do compliment each other so well, and the addition of the raisin(s) make it a perfect treat bar.

              The price ?
I found this in the local Pound World shop, so it was £1 - not sure if other stores charge more. It was a 120g bar. I think that's excellent value, as the bar is big enough to share (unless you are a choccie piggy like me !)

              Would I recommend it ?
YES. The chocolate is lovely and the flavours of the different nuts really make this different from other fruit and nut bars. Could do with more raisins but it's not a major problem.

                Nice chocolate bar

This bar that combines raisins, milk chocolate, almonds and hazelnuts is Galaxy attempt to get some of the market from Cadbury Fuit and Nut, it is a strange product in one sense as the market for this type of combination is actually not growing however it does still raise about £40 million in sales for Cadbury so getting a slice of the market is worth while. So the question is wll the succceed?

As a chocoholic I eat a fair few bars and for a change I do like some fruit and nut as I like the juicy raisins combined with the milk chocolate.

I like galaxy as it has a lovely creamy taste and is a nice smooth chocolate and while it is very sweet the hazelnuts and almonds are great at providing a counter dampening effect to the sweetness of the chocolate which can be a bit sickly at times if you eat too much. It has a nice firm texture to it and a bit of crunch because of the nuts, I also liked that there is a pretty good spread of the fruit and nuts in each bar and they have not scrimped on the ingredients.

                  Tasty Choc

"Signature Galaxy smoothness enhanced with delicious pieces of raisin, almond and hazelnut".

If you have read some of my previous reviews, then you will have noticed that (like a lot of people) i'm a bit of a chocolate addict. If I have a choice between buying Cadbury or Galaxy, I will generally go for the Galaxy - to me, it tastes creamier, and has a smoother texture - although i'm sure it's a lot sweeter these days than it used to be.

One Galaxy product which I hadn't sampled prior to a couple of days ago, was their 'Raisin Almond & Hazelnut Bar', which I suppose is equivalent to Cadbury's 'Fruit and Nut'.

Costing £1.26 for the 120 gram bar from Tesco, I actually paid 99p for the product on special offer from W.H Smith. Presented in blocks like regular Galaxy, demolishing a whole bar of the chocolate will add around 600 calories to you daily tally.

                  The Taste
                  - - - - - - -
Like all Galaxy chocolate, eating too much will make you feel sick quickly - yet the addition of the nuts seems to mix things up a bit and delay the sickness. The chocolate tastes exactly the same as a standard Galaxy bar, yet the nuts - especially the almond, creates an interesting flavour. There are a fair few raisins dotted throughout the chocolate, and whilst i'm not really a raisin fan, they weren't too noticeable.

                  Ingredients
                  - - - - - - - -
In terms of the contents, the product contains; Sugar, Cocoa Ingredients (Cocoa Butter, Cocoa Butter), Raisins, Skimmed Milk Powder, Milk Fat, Almonds, Hazelnuts, Lactose, Demineralised Whey Powder, Emulsifier (soya Lecithin), Vegetable Oil, and Flavouring.

                  Verdict
                  - - - - -
Surprisingly, (as i'm not a fruity choc type of person) I enjoyed Galaxy Raisin Almond & Hazelnut very much, and I will probably buy it again if it's on offer. I think I would probably prefer it if there were no raisins, as the nuttyness of the chocolate is quite delicious on its own - but hey, you can't have everything.
