* Easter Competition Entry (look out for the Hoff!) *
We have a rumbunctious two and a bit year old in our household with a penchant for slamming doors as she runs between rooms and we were just waiting for that visit to A&E with a finger hanging off so we had a look at the solutions that were out there on the child safety market.
I had seen the plain white ones in the supermarket at around £3 each and found these Bundle Monster Animal Cushiony Finger Safety Door Stop Guard Set to be better value for money and far more colourful.
In this set you will have the agonising decision to make over which animal to use where. You get a bear, tiger, butterfly (except I thought it was a frog!) and a pig, twice over. The animals are made from a hard foam that will withstand plenty of door slamming without allowing the door to actually shut.
You just slide the animal of your choice around the top side of the door and it will hit the door frame without causing any damage to the woodwork and stop the door from shutting on little fingers. We have a set of two doors to our living room with glass in them that lead to the stairway and we have one on one of the doors as the other door is kept permanently shut unless we are using the baby bouncer on our younger child in the doorway. We also use one on our kitchen door which also has glass in it so we don't want it slamming. Upstairs we have one on our bedroom door but this is for another reason I have decribed below under 'added bonus'. The girls have door hangings on their doors which prevent their doors from shutting completely so there is no need to have one of the cushiony door stops there.
I think these are brilliant value for money, you really can't go wrong. I love David Hasselhoff as much as the next person, but even he would not tempt me more than these animal shaped door slamming solutions. These are far more fun than the plain white versions and none have broken or even showed signs of wear for us after more than six months of use. I really think these have saved us from tears many times as I think we have said "shut the door" to our daughter so many times she now does it out of habit and we cringe as she does it in other people's houses where there are none of these cushions to stop the crushing.
A set of eight costs just £6.58 with free delivery from Amazon. Bargain!
I'm sure you are intrigued about this extra feature we have discovered! Our bedroom door seems to be weighted so that it automatically shuts itself whether you like it or not. This becomes a problem when Paddy our youngest cat is in the room as he is too stupid to work out how to open doors towards him. He head butts doors that are closed so sometimes it works for him and other times he head butts them shut. So then we have the middle of the night carpet clawing when he wants to leave the room and I hate getting out of a warm bed to let the cat out of our room so this foam door stopper helps keep the door open enough for him to slip through the gap and hopefully not disturb our peace!
Whether it's a cat or baby you're keeping the doors open for, these foam shapes work brilliantly and are kind to the purse strings. Highly recommended!
