I am not very much of a people person, I love animals and my pets are hugely important to me. Recently my old family cat, Bob, has come to live with me after my dad started making plans to move out of town. Things were going well until Bob decided to have an "adventure" and I didn't see him for 10 weeks, when he was returned to me in a dreadfully sorry looking state. Since then I have kept him inside and been nursing him back to full health. Bob is the grand old age of 15 and a half years, which is pretty good going for a cat! He is normally very active and playful, and I try my best to ensure that he stays in good health. I usually fed him this Iams Proactive Nutrition food, which is designed for mature & senior cats aged 7 and above. You can buy Iams food from various outlets such as pet stores and supermarkets, so I tend to shop around to get the best deal. You can buy different sized packs ranging from 375g, to 1kg, to 3kg.

Iams produce a range of different foods for cats, and I chose this one in particular as it was specifically designed in order to give the best possible nutrition for older cats. My Bob cat is still very active at over 15 years old, and this senior cat food is recommended for cats aged 7+. Bob is very young in some aspects of his behaviour, and enjoys play time as well as lots of running and jumping about. To keep his energy levels topped up as well as maintaining a healthy body, I make sure to feed him special senior food, and he particularly loves his Iams. The food comes in plastic packs and is a complete dry food. This takes the form of small dry biscuits that have a disc-like shape. They are small and flat, and can easily be gobbled up and munched down by my cat. Because they are a dry food I like to put out his meaty cat food in the morning for his breakfast meal before I go to work, and will then leave him with a good amount of these biscuits to graze on throughout the day, without having to worry about them going bad or drying out like a meat based food would.
The Iams dry food is easy to dish out in measured servings, and created very little mess apart from when messy cats knock them over the side of their food bowl! Even then, they do not seem to leave crumbs like other foods I have previously used. Iams is made up from components covering the four main food groups: Fats & Oils from fish oil, Protein from high quality chicken, Cereals & Fibre from grains and beef fibre, and selected Vitamins and Minerals. You should varying the portion sizes of food servings according to the size of your cat. The recommended amount are as follows:
2kg cat = 25-40g of food
3kg cat = 40-55g of food
4kg cat = 55-75g of food
5kg cat = 70-95g of food
6kg cat = 80-115g of food
7kg cat = 95-135g of food
The information on the packaging suggests that one 3kg bag of Iams food will provide 92 meals. Obviously this will vary depending on how much you are feeding your cat, and also if you supplement their diet by providing other foods. I give my cat meat based food as well, so a bag of Iams food can last me for weeks and weeks, proving to be good value for money.
As my cat gets older I am obviously becoming more concerned about his health and hope to help keep him fit and active for as long as possible. Iams claims to support your cat by providing balanced nutrition which offers the following benefits.
Iams Proactive Nutrition helps support:
1. Healthy Joints
2. Balanced Digestion + FOS
3. Strong immune system
4. Lean muscle
5. Strong teeth
6. Shiny coat
7. Healthy heart
Bob is in incredibly good health for his age, and other than having a slightly dull coat he appears in tip top condition. He is slowing down in some ways, such as not being able to jump up and down the stairs quite as quickly as he used to, and spending more time sleeping after short bursts of activity. However, he is still pretty much the same as he always has been and manages to get up to all sorts of mischief! I can tell that Bob enjoys eating Iams as he always goes straight to his bowl and will eat a full portion, rather than having a nibble and then losing interest with some of the other brands that I have tried him on. I am happy with this Proactive Nutrition Mature & Senior food as it suits my cat's needs and I can see that he likes eating it. This Iams food covers all of the specific healthcare requirements that a senior cat has, and gives Bob the energy he needs to remain active and playful. I would happily continue buying this pet food, and recommend it to other pet owners that are caring for an older cat.
