A must have in our household!

Each Christmas, our little cat - Arnold (see my profile picture) usually gets a little present off Santa Claus for being such a good boy all year! Last Christmas we decided to treat him to a new scratch post, as it was something that he used regularly, and his old one was getting into a bit of a state after several years of scratching at it. I bought the Enio Scratch post (or cat tree as it is referred to) from my local pet store for around £12. Previous to this scratch post Arnold just had a basic scratch post, consisting of a base, and a scratch post in the centre of the base. This one however has the base, the scratch post, and a platform at the top for cats to climb up onto, along with a fluffy ball which dangles down from underneath the platform. The base of this scratching post is circular, and so there are no sharp edges that can harm the cat. It is covered in a kind of soft to touch, but hard wearing carpet material, which is easy to vacuum over to pick up bits of the post that the cat scratches off, along with tiny nail clippings which fall from the cats claws over time. The scratch post itself is screwed into the base easily, and is a standard scratch post really, with a threaded screw area at the top of it which then screws into the top platform - this is very simple to put together, and takes about 1 minute, requiring no tools. The top platform is again covered in the same grey carpet-like material, and is circular in shape, with a ridge towards the back of it. I find that the colouring and look of the scratch post is very good and it fitted in well with the room décor in our lounge at our old house, and fits in just as well on our landing at the new house. ~~~ My (Arnold's) findings ~~~ Arnold instantly took to his new scratch post, and barely noticed that his other one had disappeared. He always slept on our bed at night, but during the first night with his new post he slept on the top platform, and continued to do this for several weeks, before returning to our bed again. The platform is not huge, and Arnold is a big cat, but he seemed to fit on top perfectly, and would curl up in a ball with his back resting on the ridge at the back of the platform. He often still jumps up on top of it now, but rarely to sleep, just simply to wash himself on, or for a quick sit down. The top is very stable, and has never wobbled let alone toppled over. The scratch post is like any other scratch post really, it is starting to show signs of wear, but it is used a couple of times each day, and so this is to be expected. Often when Arnold is scratching at the post, if I playfully swing the furry ball which hangs near the post, he will start to play with it, and he never seems to get bored of it, even though it is the simplest of toys. Overall I have been pleased with this scratch post and platform. It has worn well, and Arnold seems to like it very much. As with most of these things they will get worn out over time, but they save the furniture from being scratched at by the cat, and at the same time they offer a bit of entertainment, for around £10, which is well worth the money in my opinion.
