For years I wanted a 106 quicksilver, and this was just a dream until 3 days ago. Just bought an X reg 106 Quicksilver and it has not disapointed me. Took a bit of getting used to as the clutch is a bit stiffer than my old punto, but waw, its amazing!! Its quick, smooth, georgious, comfy, practicle, all at the same time. Its bog standard, but that included alloys, arches, front bumber etc anyway. It drives like a dream and you feel like your in a dream until you wake up...when stepping out of it! But then you turn round and stare the dream in the face and it's oh so real. I've never thought I could love a car so much, but I'm 18, its my 3rd car and i want to keep it forever! The only problem ive found so far is that my left lef hits off the plastic a bit, but at least it gives you the huddled up sporty drive feel, and also the fog lights...whats happening there? The rear ones have a switch to turn on, thats fine. But the front.....where is the button? It's not there, what a waste. They only cum on with your feel beams, and thats not much use, even if you are driving in fog and using them probably u wouldnt use your feel beams anyway, but I cant even turn them on with my dipped headlights to make the car look even cooler! Next stage is to buy every little silver gadget and accessory i can find, put 15" alloys on it, lower it 30mm (as this is fine without even having to buy any new parts) and then take it from there. Great wee car, and I would recommend it, but I don't want everyone to get one and ruin my thunder!
I first got into Peugeots in Summer 1999, when I had a Zest as a hire car. I was happy when my brother purchased a peugeot 106 Quiksilver from new in October 1999, with the silver gear knob, White dials, hydraulic bonnet openings and CD player as standard. July 2002 he got a Peugeot 206cc and I got the Quiksilver. I must admit I am a girl racer and have made some alterations but nothing to the bodywork as that is fine and compliments my modifications perfectly. I have changed the registration plates, lowered the car, the standard back box has been replaced by a custom made one, and an induction kit replaces the air filter and I have had to replace the head unit as the factory fitted Clarion decided to stop playing the CD's and that believe or not is the only thing that has gone wrong with the car. My baby never lets me down, has a good heating system in winter. The only things I dont like is the fact that the rear quarter windows keep closing on their own, the electric window buttons could be placed somewhere else and the pedals are a bit close to each other if you are like my friend and have wide feet. Apart from that I cannot fault its performance, reliability and economy. Well Done to Peugeot!!!
Peugeot first started this car as a limited edition, because of its success they made it into full production. be warned though earlier models have no where near the specification of the later ones, only the later ones have the cd player, alloy wheels etc. Lets face it a 1.4 is never going to challenge a ferrari but it will beat all those 1.1 novas etc, and lets face it who can get insurance or even afford a ferrari. The 106 is not the cheapest of all the small cars but then most small cars are not as well sepicified as the 106 especially the quiksilver, I would deffinately recommend getting a quiksilver. If like me you are a young male expect an increase of attention from boy racers, girls and of course the police, which brings me nicely to another point, be aware that when you put the main beams on the extra driving lights under the normal lights come on, yes thats right they are not fog lights which I had to explain to a copper after he had pulled me over for having me fog lights on.
I drive a Peugeot 106 Quiksilver and have done for seven months now. I love it! The 1.4 engine is very responsive and yet is still incredibly efficient! Let's start with the girly stuff. The colour is gorgeous, platinum silver, so it doesn't look grey and doesn't really show the dirt. The interior is very smart and black, there are no acres of grey plastic in this little car. The Quiksilver badge is everywhere but not obtrusively so. The seats are very comfortable, almost sporty. There is a surprising amount of leg room everywhere and does seat four fairly comfortably. (That's four over 5' 5"). I'm 5' 10" and have no real problem with the driving position though a height adjustable steering wheel would be a great bonus. Now to the gritty stuff. The 1.4 engine produces 75-80 bhp, not a lot I may hear you say. It appears to be more than adequate for this little car and is complimented by a suspension set up that means it handles incredibly well. Top Gear rate it as the second best handling car, not in its class, but ever!!! The power band is at about 5,000 revs and it produces a very satisfying grunting noise that will turn heads! The CD player will also turn heads as the sound system is very competent both at low and high volumes. As a driver the only disadvantages I have found don't bother me, they bother other people. The footstrap grab handles have an unfortunate habit of braining anyone over 5'2" as they get in the passenger seat. They do however look cool! The headlights on dipped beam do appear to be a little bright for a small number of other drivers who will flash and gesture in annoyance at you for driving around on full beam. The best way I have found of dealing with this is to show them what full beam really looks like and smile sweetly at their astonishment!! The car, with its GTI body kit looks gorgeous but isn't outrageously expensive and wit
h free insurance for those over 21 for a year you can't really go wrong! The only thing missing is a set of alloys which could be bought with the money you save on the insurance!
I own this car! I love this car! I have a limted edition Quiksilver that is to say it has more features than the standard Quiksilver. The 106 is the best mini car on the market and the prices are not too expensive. If you can afford a little bit more I would seriously recommended a Quiksilver. The 1.4i engine is quick and ecconomical. The colour is great. The ride is smooth. With PAS, Electric windows, Sunroof, CD Player, Alloy Wheels, oodles of safety features,Quiksilver seats and badges as standard makes for a great car. The electric window buttons are positioned between the two front seats. If the passenger is operating a button at the time of gear change there isn't enough room for both hands. The cigarette lighter is positioned just level with the top of the gearstick on the front dash and if you have a mobile phone on charge there does tend to be a clash. These are the only two bad points about the car I have found to date and lets face it they're not major!
The 106 Quiksilver from Peugeot is a sporty, economical, small car for city driving. The current model from Peugeot is the 107 Quiksilver.
