Audi A6 2.0TDI. I have owned a black Audi A6 for two and a half years and prior to that had an A4 1.9TDI and an Avant A4 prior to that. As you can guess Audi is a favourite name in our house. **Body and shape** The flowing lines of the A6 make the external shell look very aerodynamic and in my opinion very sleek. The Grill on mine covers the whole front of the car unlike the previous versions that stopped half way. The silver trim and black body work look great together and as long as it is regularly cleaned it will always look good. **Inside** The A6 has a lot of space for the driver and all the passengers. I have easily carried 4 others in the car and without any complaints. However for a more luxurious drive if you only have two in the back then a central armrest comes down. This armrest has a flap and an internal storage compartment which is useful if there is just the two people in the back. We keep DVD's in there at the moment so that my daughter always has a choice in case a journey turns into a saga because of the traffic. The front passenger has plenty of leg room and the central armrest allows both driver and passenger in the front a little bit of arm resting room without any airplane squabbles. The internal to this front rest also has a lid and a compartment which is very handy for chargers and other electronic devices. The Wheel is adjustable for driving comfort and the control panel can look a bit daunting at times, however once you get the hang of the MMI system then you can do it without taking your eyes of the road. The MMI system allows you to control (if fitted) The air con, Sat Navigation, Telephone via blue tooth, media - CD's and radio. It also allows you to set up all these devices on the settings to best suit you. The Sat Navigation is a DVD version that is actually situated in the boot and can be updated by buying the next CD - very simple and easy. The CD changer is situated in the Glove compartment and takes 6 CD's and is very easy to change CD's. The Glove compartment is big enough to hold all the cases as well. All four doors have space in an open compartment to the bottom of the door that can hold a fair bit of kit. I also replaced my carpet mats for rubber mats as I knew I would keep the car for a long period and wanted the floor carpet to last which by the way has worked. The only odd thing in the internal of the car is a special drop down pocket near to the internal lights that is (I have been told) for putting your sunglasses in - mine don't fit in, so either I have too big a head or Audi drivers normally have small glasses. - You decide. The bonnet leaver is also easy to use and located to the right hand side of the drivers well on the door side. The engine compartment is like a space ship and I do not profess to be an engineer by any means. However the oil and water and screen wash are easy to see and easy to pour into. Indicators for all three are integral to the management system on board. **Tyres and servicing ** Servicing can be an expensive product when you discuss Audi's and I was very sceptical about taking the car to an Audi dealer. However I did due to a deal with Mot that they were doing and the service was £249.00. They did not charge any extras for items that they found and just advised on a couple of things. The tyres were replaced after 25,000 miles which I believe to be very good wear. I do this mileage annually. My only gripe would be that the oil doesn't last as long as my last A4 - I believe I hardly ever filled that car up and I had it for 3 years. However the A6 has been serviced and then filled up by me some 6 months later. I spoke to Audi who told me that thinner oil is now used to stop wear and tear on the engine. It makes sense but I'm not convinced with this. **Driving** What can I say - I drive my A6 almost every day and she is a dream, she starts, she glides and she stops. I have driven BMW's and Mercedes but still prefer the overall performance of an Audi. A full 60 Litre tank will give me between 650-700 miles dependent on the type of driving carried out. All in all the A4 was better than this but only marginal and due to the body weight of the car. ***Overall*** The stats to this car are easy to look up on the Audi website but this review is about the experience of owning one and I didn't buy the car for the bhp.....which could mean briefs, hosiers and panties for all I know so I have stuck to what I know about the car which is not an engineers guided tour but a laymen's approach. - Hope it's useful
I BOUGHT and DRIVE the A6. For 2 years now. I've torn off the front bumper twice. If you don't mind paying 1000 when you forget to stop before you near the curb, and don't mind Audi denying there is a problem, then this is a car for you. When the front bumper is not falling off, it looks nice and drives well. The 2.8 (and 3.0) is marginal on power, the 2.7T or 4.2 are much better choices in that regard. Overall, this car is a good choice for smeone who owns a body shop and is looking to keep busy!
The Audi A6 2.4 SE Saloon is an excellent car. It has a powerful 2.4 litre V6 engine and it does 0-60 in just 9.1 seconds. On the road price for this car (inc tax and delivery) is just £24410. Not only do you get a fantastic engine, you also get alarm, alloy wheels, climate control, cruise control, drivers airbag, electric windows and mirrors, heated mirrors, metallic paint, passenger airbags, power steering, remote central locking, side airbags and traction control as standard. The car drives VERY smoothly and the Audi A6 looks very good looking too. For a beast of an engine, good looks and a long range of features as standard, the Audi A6 is a quality car.
This is simply one of the best cars on the market, it as style, speed and a perfect executive look. it is just so easy to drive and does a very tasty 47 miles to the gallon. it has a nice interior, and the boot is very large, so you can fit 3 or 4 suitcases in. Not only this but the spacious interior allows five adults to fit in the car with space between them, especially at the back. It has some innovitive ideas, for example drink containers underneath the seats and a cd player in the boot. The radio and cd player is covered up to look like part of the dash board, pretty nifty if you ask me. Overall, it is a very safe car, and I think it is mainly for the executive type- that's what my dad uses it for If you've got a couple of grand then go for it.
By making the new A6 longer and using the extra wheelbase to provide a roomier interior, the big gain is in the passenger treatment. While the design keeps the car from looking large, the cabin is spacious and inviting. Taut, agile handling belies the A6's weight, and good application of the corporate racing experience makes this one of the safest cars to drive fast in poor conditions. The exterior of the new A6 picks up on the success of the A4 and technology-leading A8. If you like the styling, don't be surprised to see some similarity in Ford products, since their styling is modern, yet has deco-like classic lines.
I have a theory about modern car design. It seems that all you need to do is design and build a bog standard car then hermetically seal it, attach a high pressure air hose and pressurise the bodywork until all of the corners sort of 'pop out' into rounded curves. To be honest, the Audi A6 doesn’t look too bad head on but when you look at it from the rear it really is a complete catastrophe. It only needs someone from Daewoo to weld the back of an A6 to the front of a Fiat Multipla and they could really clean up in the grotesque design stakes. I drove a 1.8t for 18 months as a company car that I inherited from my predecessor. I wouldn’t have picked it out of choice and it did nothing in that time to endear me to it. I should say straight away that I drove a BMW 320 Coupe for three years and a 5 Series estate for a year. I love BMW because of their attention to detail. They really think about the little things that make driving such a pleasure. A good example is the windscreen wipers, which automatically switch from continuous to intermittent mode when the car is standing still, thus preventing that annoying scrape as they try to clear a dry windscreen while waiting at traffic lights. It is these little things that are missing from the Audi. From a performance point of view, the A6 isn’t too bad. Mine was an automatic with the ‘Tiptronic’ manual gear change option. I found this quite novel for a while, the only problem being when pulling away from traffic lights and you’ve forgotten that it’s in tiptronic mode so it doesn’t change up from 1st, necessitating rapid handwork before the rev limiter is reached. In automatic mode, I found the gear change particularly harsh and frequent when driving in town resulting in an uncomfortable and not very smooth ride. Not something that you would expect in a vehicle of this class. A particular gripe was the digital readout of mil eage, outside temperature etc. on the dash. In bright conditions, particularly on sunny days, the display and several warning lights were totally invisible. I sometimes ask myself whether designers actually try these things out before the car goes into manufacturing. My experience wasn’t helped by the fact that the car needed 3 new turbochargers. The first came about as a result of the hammering that my predecessor gave the car. The Audi dealer who supplied the car rebuilt the turbo and I collected it from them on my first day with the company. Three days later the turbo had blown up again. It was duly returned and two weeks later came back, apparently repaired but emitting oil smoke from the exhaust which I was told was ‘normal’ for the first 100 miles or so. 120 miles later, with a huge cloud of oil smoke from the exhaust, the turbocharger went again. This obviously didn’t bode too well for my future relationship with the car or the Audi dealer whose staff were, more or less indifferent to my plight! If you want German ‘vorsprung durch technik’ engineering you can get it even better from ‘the ultimate driving experience’ offered by BMW.
