      Buy anything else but this

As my car is my pride and joy any extra security I can get for it is welcome. At the time of buying this seemed to be the most popular model in the steering lock range, though the 'pulsar' light was a later addition. They also produce a ridiculously oversized 'airbag' model. Firstly the deterrent level of it is good, although maybe not as much as I thought as it is probably renowned amongst thieves that it is very easy to get off. The catch is bright yellow and then the base of the stick has a large flashing light you can turn on. I found this thing to be stupidly bright and would attract theives to your car, not deter them if they do look like it's meant to so suffice to say I don't turn it on! The locking catch is just thin plastic with a lock built into it. The lock is one of those round key locks which are better at resisting lock picking than standard locks so that is an advantage at least. When you turn the key the holding cap unlocks and the back hinges up. You slide the bottom of the large bar through the wheel, and then lock the cap around the wheel. You should point the bar up to allow less turning. Ideally you should also try and place the locking part where the wheel prevents it from being moved around too much. The cap locks automatically when snapped shut. Also, you can't remove the key when you have it in the 'lock' position. As it's a fairly basic device, I think that's everything about the thing itself covered, and impartially has all the facts you need. However, one day for no apparent reason after having it for around 4 months, when trying to fit it, it wouldn't lock shut. I looked inside and couldn't see why it wouldn't be staying locked. No parts had came loose or anything similar either. I had a look on the internet for any known problems with it. It was then that I was absolutely shocked to discover than in attack tests this has lasted just 16 seconds!!! That's right SIXTEEN. I just wanted to cry when I realised how the rubbish the thing I had been trusting to 'look after' my car really was. I picked the thing up and bashed it on the ground outside in anger, and the plastic cracked and the lock fell out! How such a product became so popular when it does absolutely nothing it beyond me. When looking for a replacement I searched online and found the updated 'Stoplok Pro' version outlasted the 5 minute attack tests so they have clearly recognised how bad it is.

      Waste of money!!!

I purchased the stoplock pulsar a few days ago and fitted it to my car. Within 8 hours my car was stolen and i found the lock in pieces on a local school. Once the car had been found, we spotted a small screwdriver that did not belong to us. We believe that the thieves used this to destroy and remove the lock. I am absolutly disgusted in how the company has praised this item when it took only minutes for a bunch of kids to prise it off with a screw driver!! I strongly advise everyone to stay clear of this item as it is a waste of time and money!!!

Deters burgulars but with only this to protect it give them 30 minutes and it's theirs

When I bought my fiesta back in April 2004, it only came with standard immobiliser not an alarm so I decided it would be better if I purchased another deterrant as I had invested so much money giving it the sports look to have it taken from me for not having a deterrant on it seemed pointless. I went to Halfords to look at the car security devices that they had on sale and decided I wanted one that would go over the steering wheel as the other models required glueing the gearstick which on a brand new car was not something that I wanted to do so... I bought myself the stoplock for £34.99 and invested in the model that was slightly larger to accommodate cars with airbags. Easy to use, comes complete with two keys with unique code on and a replacement order form should you need to order more keys, something later on in the review you will realise I wish I had done. Stickers also came to display on your window to show that you have implemented added security methods. The stop lock is fitted by looping through the steering wheel once in place it then clicks shut and the light illuminates to show this is secure. This can now only be opened by key. Now this has given me some fantastic peace of mind on keeping my vehicle secure that was until I had my handbag stolen with the house keys and car keys in (take note if that was you in Alton Towers in June) and I realised I would not be able to remove the stoplock as I had misplaced the key, so my fella told me he would drill through to try and remove it and with a simple drill he had the stoplock off in 30 minutes. I know this is simply a deterrant to a would be car thief but it no longer puts my mind at rest and I worry about leaving my car unattended late and night and the sole purpose of me purchasing this was to give me peace of mind. Overall I purchased another replacement as I thought it worthwhile having a deterrant in place on the car as it makes it that little bit harder for people to break into your car and attempt to steal it, but maybe now I would invest in a more upgraded version.

Despite the poor reviews I've just read here, this lock of mine has actually stopped 2 of my cars being stolen. I have read of people not being happy because the stoplock didn't prevent their car being stolen, well I suggest that if your's are getting nicked, then you're doing something wrong. Try pointing the bar up to the corner of the windscreen rather than the centre of the windscreen of into the car. This is a product which I'd strongly reccomend, & the only reason I stopped using mine was that I had a leather sports steering wheel in my car & it wouldn't fasten round it, otherwise I'd still be using it today!

To be honest I thought that these things were supposed to stop thieves running off with your car. This morning I found myself unable to drive my car - all thanks to Stoplock. I simply could not get the thing off the steering wheel. The lock somehow had become jammed and the key would not turn. I went in search of the spare key, but this turned out to be a futile exercise. As I was running late for work there was no alternative but to break the thing. I expected it to be a tough job, considering the web site says it is attack resistant! Two good blows with a hammer and screwdriver was all it took to break the thing. All in all I had paid £28 on a piece of rubbish that wouldn't detain a thief any longer than if he had the key for the thing. Oh yes, that is, if the lock actually worked........... Avoid!
