Anyone into photography will understand the importance of a decent backpack to transport your precious SLR around in when in search of the perfect picture. In our house we adore photography. It initially started out as simply wanting to take really decent pictures of our girls, but has quickly developed into something much more serious (and expensive!).
As a young family, we often go on days out and it's really rare that one of the SLRs doesn't come with us. As we have a camera each, the importance not only to protect our cameras, lenses etc is important, but also to be able to keep our things separate, because heaven forbid my cheapy lens should get mixed up with His much superior lens! ; )
That's why when we were in search of a rucksack each it wasn't as straight forward as a 'that'll do'. After much deliberation I eventually settled upon the Samsonite Safaga. The price tag was rather hefty, I seem to remember it was around £50 RRP, but I managed to pick it up at a discount village for just over half of that and have been pleased with my purchase ever since.
Samsonite is a brand that can be relied upon and that's what initially made me go for the item. The fairly large capacity is split up into padded sections inside which is absolutely perfect for its intended use. This means I can have my camera body in the main section, my lens in another, then my battery pack in another. The fleeced lining inside really does give you assurance that your precious cargo is completely safe onboard. There is also a corded cleaning cloth which on our recent trip to Lapland was a life saver as the cold weather meant my lens kept steaming over with condensation so I could easily wipe it.
The material is PolyTex making it waterproof and durable. It feels solid without being heavy and secure without being a faff to get into. The adjustable carry strap is essential for me as I like the bag to be fairly snug on my back so I feel that I have a secure grip of it. This isn't the type of bag that you want the contents dangling halfway down your back as they are worth too much! The padded back means it is comfy to carry even if you are carrying all of your gear. I'm a bit of a weakling and I love this extra bit of comfort the bag gives me while I'm carrying what can turn out to be quite heavy for me.
The headphone cord outlet is a nice little touch but not one that I have ever taken advantage of, mainly because when I have my rucksack I have my girls with me and I'd feel a bit of a lame parent if I had headphones in when I'm meant to be spending time with them!
On most branded luggage you would expect a warranty and this bag is no different with a hefty ten year warranty covered in the purchase.
Recommend for those serious about photography.
