I actually bought this Samsung HMX-F80 camcorder in an airport on my way on holiday. It was recommended to me by a sales assistant for taking great video footage.
The model measures around 4 1/2 by 2 inches. It has a strap handle on the right with a soft felt cushioning for comfort. The model has a pull out 2.7 inch sized LCD screen on the left which can be reversed for 'selfie' filming too.
The screen is not a touchscreen but can be operated by three buttons on the edge of the screen, one which is a directional 'joystick' type button for selecting options on screen.
The camcorder records HD footage as well as photos, although the photo quality is not as good as a decent phone camera. There is a massive 52x optical zoom which gets you mega close to faraway objects. I do have some problems sometimes as the camera tends to refocus constantly if you move just a tiny bit. Having the camcorder on a tripod can lessen this somewhat but if you zoom in quickly it tends to happen too.
There are a couple of interesting features. You have the ability to highlight your favourite clips. You can also take a still photo from a clip as it plays back. A less satisfactory feature is the adding music to your clips feature. The music is terrible, tinny ice-cream van style music which really ruins any clip rather than enhances it! You can also protect clips from accidental deletion. When recording you can only record 20 minutes of video before a new clip is made which is a bit odd.
The camera requires a SD memory card (not included) which slots into the side of the model and which has a pull down shield. The charge connection point as well as USB cable points are also located behind this shield. The camera has a removable lithium battery which lasts around an hour at most. It can be charged at the mains and also charges when connected by USB cable to devices like laptops.
The sound quality is excellent but there is no external mike jack. Sounds is always crisp and clear on my recordings though. I have used my camera for many things but I have some amazing footage of birds. The zoom is so great that I can record at a great distance and still get crystal clear images! It's also good for close up footage and it makes an excellent camcorder for Youtube vlogging etc.
The best thing about the model is the zoom and the overall quality of the images captured. The camera can now be found on sites like Amazon and you should expect to pay from £90 upwards.
