Perfect for the job, can't complain!

I bought these powerline adapters when I changed my TV provider to BT Vision and realised I would need to connect to my internet connection via ethernet rather than wifi. As the hub is in a different room, I needed the adapters to bring the broadband to the TV.

These adapters came from Maplins for just under £50. There is a cheaper version for just under £40 but they don't have the plug adapter on the front which is really handy for me as I have a bit of a shortage of plug sockets, and lots of things don't work as well when plugged into extension sockets (these adapters don't, which is why its such a good idea to stick a socket on the front, I have my hub plugged into one and my YouView box plugged into another!) You can probably find them cheaper online, but I didn't have the patience to wait days for delivery.

These adapters couldn't be easier to use, its essentially a 'plug and go' job. You connect your broadband hub to one adapter, and your other device to the other, that's how easy it is! They can be used for TV, for printers, and lots of other devices as well as to boost wi fi signal so that it reaches every area of bigger houses. There are two ethernet cables included in the box, as well as detailed instructions but you might not even need those if you're buying the adaptors for a pretty basic purpose as I did.

The adaptors started working straightaway, as soon as all my devices were turned on. I've been able to receive online on-demand content on my Youview box clearly, quickly and with no interruptions or connection problems at all. Its worked like a dream, and so simply! I'd definitely recommend these adaptors to anyone with a similar issue.

They work well if you are patient

The instructions that come with these filled me with confidence that set up would be easy as they were so brief.

It actually took me about 2-3 hours of running between rooms and fiddly with what were described as advance settings on my PC to get them to work.

I'm not a techy, just someone who likes to buy something that does what is says with relatively easy set up, so my first impression was a bit disappointing.

However, once up and running they are excellent! I have used them for laptop connection and TV streaming from BBC IPlayer and similar services and I can honestly say that the picture quality for TV watching is excellent.

They do not drop signal which is essential if you are halfway through a brilliant movie. On a speed test, they seem to deliver the same speed to my laptop as I get from a wired connection and we have never had buffering with TV so teh speed must be good.

We have even watched HD stuff without any problems.

Apart from the fiddly initial set up, I now want to get another one as I understand you can extend the set, but I am a bit concerned about screwing up a network that took several hours to set up, so I guess this is a negative point.

I can only score these 6/10 because of he set up hassle, but if you are more competent than me with tech, you wil probably be fine.

Worthwhile investmen in a weak wireless signal house

      -When I bough this product-

About a month ago I moved from the second floor bedroom to the loft, my existing wireless adapter worked okay but found the signal was a lot weaker than it was downstairs, I also had a slower connection so I struggle watching YouTube videos, I also had connection drop outs more often than I did while downstairs.

      -My Experience-

I have owned a pair of these powerline adapters for just over a month and has been the best decision I have made, I was originally going to purchase another wireless adapter as I had assumed my current one was faulty, in the end I bought these adapters from Amazon for £46.37 and they arrived within a week.

Once I got them out of the box they were very easy to set up, first I plugged them into a wall socket in the same room just to get them paired to each other, I then pressed and held the pair button on the first adapter for about 3 seconds (the instructions say to hold the button for 3-8 seconds), then I did the same for the second adapter (I had them plugged in next to each other as you only get two minutes to pair the second adapter).

After the adapters are paired they can be moved to any socket in the house, I plugged one adapter into the router via the supplied Ethernet cable (it comes with a 1m cable which wasn't quite long enough for me so I ordered a 2m cable for about £1 from Amazon), I then went upstairs to the loft and plugged the second adapter into the wall socket where my computer was located and plugged the Ethernet cable into my computer.

Once I had the adapters connected to the router and my computer I found that it connected to the network within seconds and I was on the internet straight away.

I have found that since converting to Powerline adapters I have only had one disconnection from the router (this was a problem with the router), I can stream videos in 1080p HD on YouTube without having to buffer (except for some nights when there are more people on the internet), I can also download files faster than I was with my wireless adapter and I can load webpages a lot quicker than before.

These particular adapters are known as pass through adapters which means you can plug these into the wall without loosing a socket, they are also recommended to plug directly into the wall rather than in an extension lead (you can plug an extension lead into them if you need them).

      -Rating-

As mentioned above these adapters have been a worthwhile investment for me and have improved my internet browsing experience. I have also just purchased a third adapter with a wireless access point so that I can connect my other devices such as my Xbox or PS3 without having to borrow the powerline adapter from my PC, these products have been brilliant to me so far and would highly recommend getting them if your wireless signal isn't very good or your PC is located quite far from the router.

      Update 03/05/2013:

I have purchased a Powerline Extender adapter with a wireless access point which once set up almost eliminates the second disadvantage listed below as it can be added to the existing network and can allow a lot more devices to connect to the internet (I will do a separate review for this product once I've ensured it works properly

TP-LINK's powerline adapter TL-PA251 takes advantage of your home's existing electric wires to transfer data while transferring power. That means, with no additional wiring required, users can simply plug the TL-PA251 into existing power sockets and establish networking infrastructure in a flash. With an additional integrated power socket, it solves a common powerline problem where power sockets would be blocked and thus unusable for other devices. Adopting a totally new product design, the TL-PA251 enables high data transfer rates of up to 200 Mbps over a home's electrical circuit for up to 300 meters with an auto power-saving mode that reduces energy consumption by up to 75%.
