a toner which does the job

I bought this toner to go with the tea tree cleanser I have like the cleanser I use it every other day and yes I do use it after the cleanser it costs 5 GBP for a 250 ml bottle.
Now looking at the product it has some white to pale grey ‘gunk’ at the bottom and the product needs to be shaken quite vigorously to mix this in every time you use it which is a bit inconvenient. The bottle is self is the standard body shop bottle with the flip top cap. This seals quite well so if you are traveling it is unlikely to fly open easily.
As with all body shop products this has not been tested on animals and it is paraben free and it is also free of MI (which has been linked to skin allergies).
      In use and results.
The scent of the product is clearly that of tea tree but there is also a sort of sweetness to it as well. The tea tree scent is certainly milder than the corresponding cleanser. After shaking it up quite hard apply to cotton wool and wipe over your face. I tend to start with my forehead as this is always free of stubble. You only need a little of it to use over your whole face so the bottle will go a long way hence the 5 GBP it cost does not look quite so bad.
There is sometimes a bit of a deposit on the cotton wool after I have used it so it must be doing something and removing what I missed when using the face wash cleanser. When used along with the cleanser helps to get rid of the excess oil on my ‘T’ zone. The toner also removes any remaining traces of the face wash I didn’t rinse off. Right after using it there is a definite tingly sensation on my skin. I wouldn’t describe it as uncomfortable or painful but it is certainly a bit odd. There is also a slight tightening sensation as well after using the toner neither of these sensations last all that long so it isn’t too bad.
Tea tree can be slightly drying and so can the alcohol dent it contains so if you have dry skin then this could make it worse also for those who have sensitive skin I would strongly advise something milder. However, I feel this would be suitable for those who have oilier skin than I do as it certainly does its job well.
I have also posted this review on ciao

A good tea tree product to cleanse your skin

===The label is now slightly different but the bottle is just the same===

        ===The Product===

Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Toner.
        Suitable fro blemished skin.
        250 mls.
Comes in standard Body Shop bottle which is slightly opaque. Has a white screw top lid with a flip top and a dark green label.
Made in the UK and use within 12 months.
'Sweeps away traces of impurities for clearer looking skin. Leaves skin looking mattified, infused with tamana oil.'
To use - shake well to activate and apply on a cotton wool pad over face and neck. Made with white willow bark, lemon tea tree oil and Community Fair Trade organic tea tree oil.

        ===Cost===

        £5.

        ===My Opinion===

The Body Shop uses tea tree oil form Kenya.
Tea tree has a great reputation for its healing and restorative qualities and we have been buying items from their tea tree range for a few years now.
Our regular purchase is the tea tree face wash and I must admit we bought this item in error as ordering online the bottles are almost identical.
The liquid itself is very weird to look at - being a murky sort of watery liquid with a layer of lighter coloured sediment on the bottle - it definitely does not look very inviting. The sediment at the bottom is presumably the mattifying powders which you have to shake to blend in.
The instructions do state to shake the bottle vigorously and while I would often ignore this with certain products with this the shaking is essential.
When used on cotton wool pads the toner is very watery and a sort of greeny colour, with the characteristic strong smell of tea tree.
I do have a rather greasy mid section to my face - especially the nose and cheeks. This is a good product to use after cleaning off your make up and it is surprising that you can then see that there is still a little more that comes off - so its does clean your skin well, which is what you need if you have had make-up on and your skin is prone to be greasy.
This product does have alcohol as its second largest ingredient so it will be quite strong and harsh for some people, so if you have sensitive skin I would advice using with caution.
This product is the same price as the face wash and really, although it does last a long time I would not really bother buying it again. It does clean off the last remnants of make-up but that could be done just as well by washing your face after using make-up remover. I cannot really comment on the mattifying properties as my skin is not really very shiny anyway.
This may be useful if you have very greasy and problem skin as it does tend to dry up the excess oil but personally I and my son find the face wash quite adequate and would see no reason to bother buying the toner again.

        ===Star Rating===

4 stars. OK if you need a strong toner.

        ===Would I Recommend?===

        Yes.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

I like to use this for removing my make up but hate the smell

        WHAT IS IT?

Toner from The Body Shop that contains tea tree oil so is good for skin that has blemishes or if you suffer with spots.

        THE PACKAGING

It comes in a plastic bottle with a lid that you flip up to show a hole where the toner comes out.  The label is green and you can see the green toner through the bottle so it looks attractive even though it is a little bit medical in looks.

        HOW DO YOU USE IT?

Pour a small amount onto a cotton wool ball and wipe it across your face.  You can either use it as a plain toner or to remove make up but because of the very strong smell you should not use it close to your eyes so it is not for removing eye make up.

        WHAT I THINK

I do not like the smell of this toner because it is very strong and the tea tree oil makes my eyes water sometimes.  It does not smell very harsh like some tea tree products do because there is another smell inside the liquid that takes away some of the tea tree smell.

The toner does not make my skin feel tighter or more toned at all and that is a pity because I trust The Body Shop and I like to use their products because they are usually very effective.  I do not use this very often but I sometimes get a few spots when it is my monthly cycle and then this toner makes my skin look calmer so that my spots go down a lot quicker and lose the red edges.

I use it mostly for making sure that I have removed all of my make up so that my skin can breath through the night and it works very well for that.  I know that is true because when I check on my cotton wool ball there is some foundation or blush on there even though I have already washed my face carefully and I thought I had removed all of it.

        ANYTHING ELSE

A 250ml bottle of toner costs £5.  I will not buy it again though because I do not like the smell and I do not think it works very good as a toner.

        3 Dooyoo Stars.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

An effective facial toner from The Body Shop Tea Tree range

Suffering with T-zone skin is an issue for me, particularly as my forehead and nose gleam if I do not use the correct products. As a result, I favour using toners, which are an essential part of my daily beauty regime.

One of my recent finds was The Body Shop's Tea Tree range, which I anticipated would be perfect for my needs, particularly as tea tree contains antiseptic properties as well as assisting to fight skin blemishes. The product was a new concept for me as instead of a simple toner, the product contains mattifying powders, which The Body Shop claim will leave skin shine free.

The sturdy plastic bottle needs to be shaken well to mix the contents and after easily flipping open the lid a small amount of the powerful smelling liquid needs to be dispensed onto a cotton wool pad and applied to the surface of the skin. My initial use was all over my face, but due to the few dry patches that I suffer on my cheeks I experienced a slight burning sensation, which was a little uncomfortable. Consequently, further applications were solely to the T-zone area, which are the areas that requiring mattifying due to excess oil.

The toner offers a wonderfully cooling sensation and leaves my skin feeling refreshed with any traces of dirt and grime having been removed with a single application. Furthermore, it does not leave any residue or cause any dryness or tightness to the skin. Whilst the toner is suitable for removing foundation I prefer to carry out this process with baby lotion. In addition to thoroughly cleansing the skin, the toner assists in closing the pores although it isn't effective enough to improve the appearance of an enlarged one situated beneath my nose.

Whilst I was initially a little apprehensive about the toner's abilities to assist with the shine on my forehead and nose, particularly as harsh facial products can often strip the skin of its natural oils and cause dryness. However, I must admit to being impressed despite its mattifying properties only lasting a few hours. I would highly recommend the toner for use on oily patches of skin although I would avoid applying to dry areas.

You can purchase The Body Shop Tea Tree Toner at £5 for a 250 ml bottle.

            Toner

            Body shop tea tree toner

I tend to buy a lot of the Body Shop products because Little Miss really likes them and it's a good way to get her to start to look after her skin. We recently bought a few of the Tea Tree products and this is one of them I found myself making use of.
            WHAT DOES IT PROMISE?
This toner is apparently for blemished skin and promises to give skin a matte, shine-free finish. It also removes traces of make-up, cleanser and impuritie and is clinically proven to give clearer-looking skin

            Sounds good to me!
            PRODUCT AND PACKAGING...

The toner is available in a range of sizes- we started with the 60ml to see if it suited and have recently bought the 250ml bottle which is much better value for money.
It comes packaged in a plastic bottle with a flip up down lid, and the greenish looking liquid clearly visible through the gaps in the label.

When I open the bottle, there is a distinct tea tree smell, which I like as it smells so medicinal it must clean my skin! When I pour out the liquid onto cotton wool, it is clear and whilst it doesn't sting my skin there is a definite tightening of my pores and I know I am not using just water.
            USING THE PRODUCT...

After cleansing my face I saturate cotton wool with the product and wipe all over my face.the one thing I would advocate here is to give the bottle a really good shake as it seems to almost separate with a layer of thicker whiteish substance forming on the bottom of the bottle whilst the liquid stays on the top. Its only a very tiny layer on the bottom but much nicer when mixed up properly.
            PRICE AND AVAILABILITY...

This is available in Body shop stores and also online and costs £5 for 250ml of the product which isn't especially expensive for this type of product and especially as there are often offers.
            VERDICT...

The product is nice and easy to use and really does seem to leave my skin clean and refreshed. I do experience a very slight tightening of my pores and can almost feel it removing any last traces of grime and make up. Several times I have cleansed my face and when I have wiped this across my face noticed its not truly clean and then washed again.
My skin can tend towards slightly dry and so I wouldn't use it constantly as I think it would be too drying, but for a really good and thorough clean I would recommend this. Little Miss also uses this product and it leaves her skin nicely toned and very clean without any adverse reactions.

            A recommended skin product.
            Thanks for reading

            Daniela xx

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

              USELESSSSSSSS!

I bought pretty much the entire Tea Tree skincare range from The Body Shop years ago because it is the range directed at people with oily skin. I wanted to have a full skincare routine and bought the toner as it removes any last traces of dirt and tightens pores.

The bottle is similar to most other Body Shop bottles, a fairly large, recyclable clear bottle. I like clear bottles so you can see how much of the insides are being used and you can see the colour of the toner which is bright green to fit with the rest of the tea tree products. The bottles are much thicker than any other skincare bottles I have ever used and usually I find it quite hard to get the last drops of whatever is inside, however as the toner is just as liquid as water I have no worries about this. You just need to tip the bottle so enough toner is distributed onto a cotton pad.

The smell of the toner is strong tea tree like the other products, I'm not a huge fan of the smell of tea tree but The Body Shops one is not overpowering and doesn't linger either. I use the toner after I have washed my face with either the Tea Tree Blackhead Exfoliating Scrub or Tea Tree Foaming wash. You only need a few drops for the cotton pad to be wet enough with the toner to use which is good as it will last a long time but the overall effect of using the toner is ... nothing! I feel like I am wiping my face with a green, tea tree smelling water. I never see any extra dirt on my skin and never feel any difference to my skin. There is no tingly sensation which I like to have from a toner and there is no visible difference to my skin what so ever.

I want to give the Body Shop toner a good review and recommendation as I love all the other skincare products in this range but it is so useless I honestly think it is just a waste of money and bit of extra money the Body Shop are trying to get out of you.

                Advantages

                Disadvantages

                Tones without the chemical feel

I have struggled for years with my skin and have not (yet) managed to find anything to clear it completely, however the Body shop Tea tree range comes about as close as I think I am realistically going to get.

The toner comes in one of their regularly sized bottles. I found the cap quite stiff - which is probably a good thing with such thin liquid if knocked. The bright green colour did unnerve me slightly but the smell is lovely!

I use cotton wool pads to apply this. Having used a huge selection of toners and having quite sensitive skin I was expecting the usual stinging astringent feeling but this was very gently. My face does remain quite wet for a while after use. Overall it did make my skin feel tighter and smoother and did react well to make up being smothered on top.

Price wise - regular price is 4.50 and with a bottle lasting me well over 2 months I think this is reasonable. The Body Shop do have regular offers and it is worth waiting for these (i.e. 3 for 2 etc)

                Advantages

                Disadvantages

A very good product once again from The Body Shop

Up until recently The Body Shop hasnt been a favoured shop of mine at all. However a while ago I was drawn in by big sale signs up at the windows and did end up buying something and I liked it so I went back and treated myself to a few other things as a bit of a treat.

At 38 I have problematic skin. I suffer with open pores lots of blackheads all over the place and a greasy t zone which encourages spots. I did think as I got older maybe my skin would stop being so akward when in fact its actually got worse lol.

I'm always running out of toner which I use on its own to freshen my skin up with or after using cleanser to remove all last traces of it as I don't want that stuck in my pores which is why after buying a different toner to this one instore and really liking it I opted for this one knowing that tea tree is a light astringent and I thought it may help my problems!

                The Packaging:

This is available to purchase in one size which is 250ml and quite a decent sized product for £4.50 in my opinion. The bottle is see-through plastic with a back flip top lid to the top of it concealing a small hole then on the front label we are told what it is and who it is by and the size is stated then on the back of the bottle other information listed includes being told a bit about The Body Shop and to use the product up within 12 months of opening it and contact details for The Body Shop are given. This is a nice enough simple looking bottle which is rather unisex.

                The Toner Itself:

So to use this is really simple of course. You can use this on a slightly grimey face for a quick freshen up or after cleanser and I find a little of this green and tea tree smelling toner to go a very long way indeed!

It has a refreshing and very strong smell to it this one and I find that this swiped across my mush on a cotton wool pad lifts muck and debris rather easily. I don't remove a full face of make up with this and wouldnt but I do as I stated earlier like to make sure no cleanser is left to block my pores on my face and this lifts that off well to.

It does have a slightly greasy feeling in use which doesnt hang about thankfully and it mattifies my skin of grease for a good while, leaves my skin nicely scented for a good couple of hours and my skin looks and feels really clean.

I have noticed that since using this a couple of times a day on average that I'm getting less spots however I can't say that its helped unblock my pores or prevent blackheads as I dont believe it has sadly though my skin in general does feel a bit smoother since I have been using this product.

All in all though for a freshen up and grease and grime removal this does the job for me and I rather like it!

Only available from The Body Shop.

                Advantages

                Disadvantages

Great product, will definitely be repurchasing!

                -- Reasons for buying --
I received this toner in a Body Shop Tea Tree gift set that my mum bought me to help clear up my acne prone skin. I had seen lots of positive reviews about the product and the Tea Tree skin care range, so I was excited to try it!

                -- The Claim --
The toner is said to remove make-up, cleanser and impurities, mattifying powders leave skin shine free and is cynically proven to give clearer looking skin.

                -- Appearance --
The green coloured toner comes in a plastic transparent bottle, with a sticky label around the centre of the bottle stating the name of the product, some information and the Body Shop logo. Also displayed on the back the ingredients contained in the toner which are of course all natural and help to fight against breakouts. The lid on the bottle is a flip up one which is easy to open and close to keep the bottle secure and safe from leakages.

                -- Using the product --
Using this product I like to squeeze a small amount onto two separate cottons pads and gently wipe across my face morning and night after cleansing my skin. I like to this as it is said to remove excess oil and cleanser. I do sometimes tend to use it during the day, if my skin feels oily and I want a quick refresh without having to spend time cleansing my face again.

                -- My experience --
I find this toner to be fantastic as it leaves my skin feeling refreshed, clean and great at keeping my skin shine free. I do find that it does tend to dry out my face, because of using it twice a day sometimes I do use it more if my skin is feeling oily during the day. Because of this I do use a good moisturiser before going to bed, so my skin doesn't become to tight or flaky. This product would be great with people who tend to have oily skin, but as I tend to have very dry acne prone skin, it does dehydrate my skin. As it's such a great product and has helped amongst the other products in the gift set to clear up my skin and reduce my scarring, I will not stop using this. My skin was noticeably clearer after a week or so of using and has prevented breakouts. I do really love using this product and my skin feels so much nicer, even when wearing make-up on top, there is definitely a lot less shine on my cheeks and chin.

                -- Price and Availability --
This is available in all Body Shop stores and online. It costs £4.50 for 250ml. I think this is an excellent price for the quality and quantity of the product!

                -- Conclusion --
I would recommend this product to people will oily skin, not so much to people with dry skin but if you do tend to get a lot of breakouts this is definitely worth a try and the ingredients are all natural so its great!

                  Advantages

                  Disadvantages

                  Average!

I love The Body Shop stuff and for Christmas recieved a gift voucher, which I spent last weekend on lots of goodies! One of the things that I picked up was this, the Tea Tree toner. I bought this purely because I have tried all of the other products in the body shop's tea tree range and have been highly impressed, so thought this would be worth a try. The toner is £4.50 for a 250ml bottle. I personally think that this does seem quite expensive for a medium sized bottle of product, however a little goes a long way and you only need a few large drops of the product to completely soak a pad of cotton wool in the liquid, and I only need two pads of cotton wool to do the whole of my face and neck.

The toner comes packaged in a transparent, sturdy plastic bottle which has a slightly rounded shape to it. The bottle has a flip lid and the liquid is dispensed through a small hole in the top, I do think that this packaging is quite practical and the small hole dispenses it carefully meaning the product doesn't pour out rapidly and therefor none goes to waste. The only branding on the bottle is a thin plastic type label wrapped around the middle of it, this simply has the body shop logo and the brand name. The label's colour scheme is predominantly green (to go with the tea tree theme) with white font which is easy to read. As the bottle is transparent the light green liquid can be seen through the bottle, and I also noticed that there is often quite alot of frothy white slime like residue settled at the bottom. This residue is actually 'mattifying powders' which are activated once the bottle has been shaken and it dissapears and mixes into the green liquid once shaken, creating a creamier looking liquid.

The lengthy list of ingredients is stated on the back, with the key ingredients being:
                  - Community Fair Trade Organic Tea Tree Oil
                  - Witch Hazel
                  - White Willow Extract

The Body Shop claim that this toner is refreshing, is able to remove impurities and say that it gives blemished skin a beautifully matte, shine-free finish. They also state that the toner:
                  - Removes traces of make-up, cleanser and impurities
                  - Mattifying powders leave skin shine-free
                  - Clinically proven to give clearer-looking skin

Using the toner is easy, I apply mine after cleansing and before moisturising. I simply shake the bottle and then apply a few drops onto a cotton pad which is easy as the consistency is just like water so the pad soaks it up completely very quickly. I then wipe around my face with it, making sure I focus on my problem areas (spot prone areas such as my cheeks and chin). I make sure that I avoid my eyes, due to it containing tea tree oil (which stings, alot!) I also use this on my neck. I do this twice daily; once in the morning and once before bed, and I have found that it's weirdly refreshing and relaxing! For example in the morning it makes me feel really refreshed and wakes me up, while at night it makes me feel calm and relaxed. The toner can also be used to remove makeup such as concealer and foundation, I use a wet wipe to remove my makeup and this toner manages to get rid of any last traces. Overall though it is so easy to use, it takes literally 2 minutes and leaves my skin feeling soft, smooth and most importantly cleansed.

I bought this product mainly because I am in love with The Body Shop's tea tree range, and really wanted to try this out, and partly because I am currently heavily pregnant and my hormones seem to be going bezerk. I'm never been particullary prone to spots however in the past few months I have had my fair share - especially around my chin. I am extremely self concious and hate having any sort of blemish (especially on my face!) and thought that using this toner may be of help as it contains not only tea tree oil, but also witch hazel which is another one of the main reasons why I bought it. Unfortunetly I don't think this toner really has any effects on spots, not mine anyway! It doesn't seem to reduce redness, nor does it dry the spots up, so if you want a toner that gets rid of spots/clears them up, I would not reccomend this toner.

The smell definetly isn't what I expected it to be like, it is quite strong and doesn't smell like my other (Superdrug) Tea Tree toner. I personally think this smells quite sweet, it also has a hint of lemony scent in it which I like, and I also like that the smell doesn't linger. The smell is refreshing and it's pleasant and not over the top. After using this toner on either my face or neck, my skin does feel instantly fresh, however this toner doesn't give that 'cooling' sensation that most tea tree products usually give, instead it actualy made my skin feel as if it was burning up, I know this sounds very unpleasant but the sensation subsided after a minute or so and my skin doesn't actually appear red or irritated. Obviously the fact that my sensetive skin had this reaction concerned me, however my friend agreed that it had the same effect on her and her skin didn't appear red either, and the feeling isn't particullary unpleasant or off putting for me personally.

Overall, this toner isn't really great, but I do reccomend it. It is great at removing the last traces of foundation, and it's also refreshing, smells nice and leaves my skin feeling smooth and clean. I don't really think it has any mattifying effects personally as I have dry skin which isn't greasy, however everyones skin is different so for someone with oily skin this may be of help. The 'burning up' sensation may not happen to everyone however I imagine the fact that it had this effect on my skin may put some of you who are reading this review off a bit! The toner is reasonably priced and a little goes a long way. I do think it keeps my skin looking clean, fresh and it's definetly made my skin tone look slightly less patchy (my cheeks recently became slightly more red for some bizzare reason however this toner seems to of calmed them down) and I give this product 3/5 stars.

                    Advantages

                    Disadvantages

                    Good price but bad results

My complexion seems to be going through a transitional phase as I am finally growing out of my spotty teenager skin now I've reached my mid-20's. I'm still trying to figure out what products work best for my skin, and I'm experimenting my way through various facial skin care ranges to try and see what works for my fussy skin. I vary from combination to oily/combination and occasionally sensitive, so it's hard work finding a cleansing routine that fits my needs, especially when taking seasonal factors into account.

I was recommended this toning liquid by a member of The Body Shop staff who was trying to help me choose something suitable. The Tea Tree Oil Toner is available from The Body Shop high street stores and online at www.thebodyshop.co.uk. It comes in a 250ml size bottle and costs £4.50, which is a reasonable price for this type of product.

Product description: "This refreshing toner for blemished skin gives a beautifully matte, shine-free finish.
+ Removes traces of make-up, cleanser and impurities
+ Mattifying powders leave skin shine-free
+ Clinically proven to give clearer-looking skin"

Toning is a necessary step between cleansing and moisturising and this toner did a good job of removing any last traces of make-up or cleansing products. This toner is a bit different than usual, and when looking in the bottle it almost looks as if it's gone off, as there what looks like a grimy layer at the bottom of the bottle where part of the mixture settles. The directions state: "Apply after cleansing and before moisturising. Shake to activate the mattifying powders and apply a generous amount to a cotton pad. Sweep across the face and neck." It is really important to remember to shake the bottle before pouring the toner out, and after I've mixed it up I then simply pour some onto a cotton wool pad and then wipe over my skin. I usually have to use quite a lot per application to cover the whole area of my face and neck, but the 250ml bottle has lasted me around six months with daily usage.

I found that this toner made my skin did feel very clean and refreshed. It is a nice step in between cleansing and moisturising, and it does help my skin to feel clearer and cleaner after using it, but it did not seem to have any actual toning effect. My pores are naturally quite open on some areas of my face and this toner did not help to close them or tone the skin to produce a smoother flawless looking finish. Instead, I have actually started using another Body Shop product in addition to my usual make-up, which is a primer base that helps to give my skin a smooth finish and reduce the visibility of my pores.

The natural ingredients include Community Fair Trade organic tea tree oil, witch hazel, and white willow extract. The scent of the tea tree oil is very strong. The smell is pungent when applying and it is not a very nice sensation when using it, as it can seem a bit overpowering and harsh. Tea tree and witch hazel are well known for their antibacterial and healing properties, and they are widely used in many anti-blemish remedies and treatments. Unfortunately for me, I did not notice any benefits in this area, and rather surprisingly I actually found that I have had more frequent spot outbreaks than I had previously when using other products. My skin is prone to oily patches and this did not lessen with using this toner.

I think this is an overrated product that doesn't actually perform in the way that I would expect it to. Although it helps my skin to feel clean and refreshed, it leaves me with open pores and I have been plagued with ever-more frequent spots. Added to that, the overbearing scent of tea tree oil is just too much for me. I couldn't recommend this one and I am still continuing my search for a better toner!

The Body Shop are against animal testing, please keep your beauty cruelty free!

                      Advantages

                      Disadvantages

Helps problem skin, but not a great deal

I was never a big fan of toners because I never really thought that they worked, however as my skin can be quite oily and sometimes blemished, I thought I'd give this tea tree one a try as tea tree oil and tea tree products have helped my skin in the past.

The packaging is simple, with a green label (corresponding to the 'tea tree' range of products by The Body Shop). It claims to be suitable for blemished skin, to sweep away impurities and leaves skin looking mattified. The product itself is a bright green, translucent liquid, but you'll notice a layer of white at the bottom of the bottle. It instructs to 'shake well to activate', so all the ingredients in the bottle combine.

The smell is very distinct, with a noticeable fragrance of tea tree, however this isn't as strong as using pure tea tree oil. However, because it contains tea tree, be careful around your eyes, as it will sting if it gets in them!

After shaking, I applied this with a cotton pad to my face. It leaves the skin feeling very fresh and, when the excess liquid has dried, does leave skin looking slightly more mattified, which is ideal for those with oily skin.

Although this does work, and it's a nice product to have, some may say that it's unnecessary, as its effects aren't really ground breaking, or even that noticeable! However, it's a good product to have when you have a breakout of spots, as it's not as harsh as using pure tea tree oil on the skin.

                      Disadvantages

                      Great Cleanser For Blemished Skin.

Like most of the health and beauty products I have discovered over the years, this little gem was introduced to me by my sister. She informed me that she had mainly used it to make sure all her make up was off, but that it could help clear up my skin a bit.

Ever since I was 13 i've had a few issues with spots. I'm 21 now, and the problem has improved a lot with age but I still get them. This product is sold at around £5 for a 250ml bottle but is usually on offer with the other tea tree products in a 3 for 2 deal. The ingredients include tea tree oil, lemon tea tree oil, white willow bark and tamanu oil. The toner is bright green in colour and, like all body shop products is not tested on animals. It claims to be suitable for blemished skin and to sweep away impurities for clearer looking skin.

The instructions tell you to shake to activate and apply to face and neck using a cotton wool pad. The first thing you notice is the smell. If you've used tea tree products before you will be familiar with it, but I hadn't. The smell isn't necessarily unpleasant, it's just quite strong but i've grown to quite like it.

On application the product does sting slightly, but this didn't bother me as I guessed that meant something was happening. It left my skin feeling very clean and refreshed with a matte look to it. After using it for a couple of weeks I really did did notice differences. I was getting fewer blackheads and spots and my skin was looking much healthier. I tended to get quite bad shaving rash as well, this has also improved. However I wouldn't recommend applying the product straight after shaving as it will sting considerably. The 250ml bottle I bought lasted 5 weeks, after normally using it a couple of times a day.

Definitely a product worth buying, doesn't work miracles but has lead to noticeable improvements.

                      Advantages

                      Disadvantages

                      Don't expect miracles

I spotted this when I was browsing in the Body Shop at Euston Station and as I'd been having a bit of a spotty outbreak I thought I'd give it a try, despite not really having used any Tea Tree products since I was a teenager! It was priced £4.50 for a 250ml bottle which is slightly more than Boots & Superdrug own brands but on a par with anything I'd normally buy.

The packaging for this is typical of the Body Shop - minimal and straightforward. It comes in a clear plastic (recyclable) bottle with a black label with the name of the product (in English and French) and a short blurb about what the product's supposed to do: namely, remove traces of cleanser, make-up and impurities. It also mentions the natural extracts contained in the toner: Community Trade tea tree oil, witch hazel and white willow bark, all of which are supposed to have antibacterial or calming properties.

I used this after cleansing my face with my usual facial wash, using a cotton wool pad to wipe it over my face. I concentrated on my T-zone as this is where I tend to get oily and spotty. It had a very fresh smell - those who have used tea tree products will know what I mean when I say it's a very distinctive scent, and may not be to everyone's taste! However it dried quickly and left my skin feeling squeaky clean but not dry or tight.

When I woke up in the morning my skin still looked matte and clean - I think this product definitely controls oil production; however now I've been using it for a couple of months I can't say it's improved the overall condition of my skin - I still get the odd breakout. Despite this I'll continue to use it as it makes me feel nice and clean, and weirdly I do like the smell.

                        Advantages

                        Disadvantages

A good price and it does the job well.

I wanted to find a toner that was a cheaper alternative to my current favourite by Clinique which is also aimed at problem, blemish-prone skin types. I discovered the Tea Tree Oil range by The Body Shop and decided to give this one a go.

                        The Company

The Body Shop have been around for years and there can't be many people who can say they've never come across any of their products at some point. The Body Shop have a wide range of products from skin care, hair care, make-up and even home fragrance products such as oil burners and candles. They often have special offers and limited editions, and their shops can be found in most shopping centres and on high streets.
The Body Shop was founded in the UK in 1976 and now have over 2,400 stores across 61 countries and a range of over 1,200 products! They claim to use many natural ingredients from around the world, and have their own fair trade programme called Community Trade which works with over 30 suppliers in more than 20 countries. They are also against animal testing for every one of their products.

                        The Product

This Tea Tree Oil Facial Toner is just one product in the Body Shop's Tea Tree Oil range, and it's aimed at people with oily/blemished skin. Other products in this range vary from cleansers, exfoliators, masks, wipes and body washes, there's certainly alot to try out.

The toner comes in a plastic see through bottle. The Body Shop state on the back that they make the bottles out of 30% recycled plastics, but they are trying to make it 100%. The toner itself is a bright green colour that certainly stands out. The bottle has a small flip lid and tipping the bottle will make the toner come out slowly onto your cotton wool.

The Body Shop claim that this toner "removes excess traces of cleanser, dirt and make-up, helping to control shine and blemishes without drying the skin." I always use this toner after cleansing the skin but before moisturising. To apply I use a large cotton wool cosmetic pad and gently pour some out of the bottle. You will immediately notice the smell of this product as the tea tree oil and slight astringent smell it has it quite strong. It's actually been quite off putting for me for this product as it's just too strong a scent.

I sweep the cotton wool pad across my face and neck, the toner goes on the face easily and really does remove any excess make-up/cleanser, and it certainly does not dry out the skin. You notice some dirt on the cotton wool pad afterwards, a good skin it's doing the job. I usually leave my skin to dry for about a minute before applying my moisturiser afterwards.

Concerning blemishes and spots I can't say this toner has made too much of a difference in this area, it does help calm the redness of spots but hasn't helped at preventing them too much, however it is good at removing excess oils without drying out the skin.

The toner's main ingredient is Tea Tree oil and it's from their Community Trade, the Bunjum Co-Operative who market their tea tree oil and provide opportunities for the young without having to leave for the city.
Tea Tree oil has natural purifying antibacterial properties and it is known to help soothe blemish prone skin. The toner also contains witch hazel, another ingredient often found in skin care products related to blemish prone skin types.

                        Value for Money?

This toner comes in a 250ml bottle and costs £5.85. I have been using it 1-2 times daily and it still has around 80% left. This is certainly cheaper than the Clinique product I usually use, but then that comes in a larger bottle and I'm more happy with it's results. I'm also put off by the smell of this toner as it really is strong. Never the less it doesn't dry out my skin and it clears away excess oils and cleanser, and it contains more natural ingredients. I would recommend if you're looking for a cheaper toner that does the job it says on the tin.
