“ Brand: Tesco / Type: Cleansing Lotion / Subcategory: Lotion / Skin type: for dry skin and for all types / What it does: Cleanses, „
As I get older I am paying a bit more attention to my face. I have always been quite good at washing my make up off at the end of the day and using a toner on my face but up until a while ago I never used a cleanser. I always remember the beauty professionals saying, cleanse, tone, moisturise so I thought I would up my beauty routine and cleanse too to get my face really clean before I tone and moisturise it. Recently, I have been using the Tesco cucumber facial range as I shop there more frequently now and love beauty products with cucumber in because it really works for my skin so I decided to try their cleansing lotion. At only £1.97 for a 150ml bottle I thought if I don't like it or don't get on with a cleanser then I haven't spent too much money. The bottle is quite cheap looking but then what do you expect for less than £2. I'd rather pay for the product inside rather than fancy packaging. This cleanser is lovely and fresh and doesn't have an overpowering cucumber smell which is nice. It's light and fresh with just a hint of cucumber and I think that's what you want when you are cleansing your face. I apply a bit of the lotion to a cotton wool pad and then smooth it all over my face, wait a few moments and then wash it off with some water so I can then have a clean fresh face to moisturise. It definitely feels like this cleanser is really getting the last bits of dirt that my toner might have left and is also evening out my skin and preparing it for the final treatment. I'm glad I introduced a cleanser into my make up removal routine and I like how this one has performed so far, I'll be interested to try other more expensive brands and see how they compare but in the meantime I am happy with this cheap version.
As promised in my previous review of the Cucumber Face Wash, here is my review of another product from the Cucumber range that has now become a part of my daily skin care routine. This cleanser comes in a tall 150ml plastic bottle, and has the same design as the other products in the range, white, with all the writing in pale green writing, and the cucumber designed pattern around the top of the label, and this one has a screw top lid. The whole range has a youthful and fresh looking design which is rather eye catching. Like the rest of the range, the cleanser is an absolute bargain price - just 80p for a bottle! (And I will also point out that I have picked these items up at even better sale prices before, one time picking up 3 items from the range for just £1!! So keep your eyes peeled for these offers) The blurb on the back of this bottle reads - 'This range has been enriched with Cucumber extract for natural moisturising and soothing properties, helping to gently care for your skin. The gentle formulation will remove make up and impurities that build up on your skin leaving your skin feeling cleansed and refreshed.' The first time I used the cleanser, I encountered a slight problem. I tipped the bottle up and squeezed gently to try get a dollop of the cream out, and loads came out! I had to try scoop some back into the bottle so I didn't waste any. As I have worked down the bottle, I find it harder sometimes to get any of the cream out, and have to shake the bottle to release any, which then leads to me again having to scrape some off my hand back into the bottle. So, Tescos, if you ever read this, some work could be done on the design of your bottles! This slight problem aside, once you have the cream out, you smooth it all over your face to leave a layer of it over the skin, but don't rub it all in. The cream is not thick and heavy, and not really runny either. Then, remove the cleanser by wiping off with cotton wool, adding a little pressure. As you remove the cleanser, you can see the difference it makes by checking out the cotton wool. The first time I did I almost gagged! The cotton wool ball was almost brown/greyish colour and looked really dirty! Unfortunately, it doesn't get better if you use it daily, and you will soon realise just how much everyday dirt and grime your skin absorbs every day. The bottle also says it will help remove make up. I normally use facial wipes to do this as I find them gentler especially for eye make up. But I ran out one day so used this instead. The easiest way is to add a little cleanser to a cotton wool ball, than wipe that with another cotton wool ball so you dont have too much going near they eye. I wipe the cotton wool gently over my eye, and it does do a really good job of removing even my mascara, although if there is too much on the ball it does sting the eye, so I tend to use it as little as possible for removing eye make up, but for things like foundations, it is great, and gentle on the skin. This along with my other products from this range have made my skin feel and looks so much cleaner and refreshed, and the skin feels so soft. They really are great little products that last a long time, too.
I recently returned from my honeymoon in Cyprus, and when I got home I realised I didn't have as much of my regular cleanser as I thought, not wanting to go into town I decided to have a look in my local Tesco to see if there was something cheap I could buy to keep me going until I went shopping, I spotted Tesco's own brand of Cucumber Cleanser, it was extremely cheap to buy but it would do for now. Packaging Tesco Cucumber Cleanser comes in a plain white plastic bottle, it has clear label wrapped around it which has all of the information about the product printed on it in green writing. Around the top of the label is a pattern which is designed to look like cucumber slices, just below this is the word "Tesco" again in green writing. The name of the product "Cucumber Cleanser" is written sideways down the length of the bottle in slightly larger writing with a small sentence about the cleanser written just beneath this. The name of the cleanser is repeated on the back of the bottle, with the rest of this space being taken up with small green writing which is made up of ingredients. directions of use and warnings, the writing is small and may be a little difficult to read. The bottle has a plain white plastic lid which easily screws on and off the top of the bottle. The Cleanser Tesco Cucumber Cleanser has the appearance of a thick white cream, it looks just like a moisturiser only in a bottle rather than a tub, it has quite a thick consistency which is good because there is no stopper in end of the bottle and the bottle opening is quite wide, the thickness of the cleanser means you have to slightly squeeze the bottle to get the product out, if it was a liquid then it would pour out of the bottle opening wasting a lot of it. The fragrance is a bit of a strange one, I expected the cleanser to smell of cucumber, obviously because of the name of it, however this is not the case, I cannot really describe what the fragrance is but to me it is slightly floral. This cleanser has a very delicate smell to it which quickly fades when applied to the skin, I particularly liked this as it meant it meant it was not going to irritate my skin. Tesco Cucumber Cleanser is described as being enriched with cucumber extracts which are know for their natural moisturising and soothing properties, it is also described as being gentle and suitable for removing make up and impurities from the skin. Tesco Cucumber Cleanser is dermatologicaly tested and is suitable for all skin types leaving you feeling clean and refreshed. Directions of Use The directions of use on the back of this product are pretty self explanatory, you simply wipe the lotion over you face and neck removing any make up and dirt at the same time. You repeat this until your face is clean. It is recommended that you use this product as part of your daily facial care regime and for the best results use with other products from the range. Warnings Again the warnings that come with this product are pretty standard and include *Avoid contact with eyes, if this occurs rinse with clear warm water *If irritation occurs discontinue use Price Obviously I purchased my bottle of Tesco Cucumber Cleanser from my local Tesco, I was very impressed with the price of this product as it cost me just 80p for a 150ml bottle, this is a lot cheaper compared to other similar products on the market, although the price did make me query the quality of the product. I find that I only need a small amount of the cleanser at a time making it very long lasting and economical, it was certainly well worth the price. My Opinion As I have said I wasn't expecting too much of the Cucumber Cleanser but I had just returned from holiday where it had been extremely hot so the skin on my face was feeling quite dry, I wiped the cleanser over my face using cotton wool and was impressed with how cool it felt on my skin, I continued to wipe the product over my face until all make up was removed, afterwards I was very impressed with how moisturised my face felt, my skin felt soft and refreshed, not dry at all. I continued with the cleanser for a few days and each time I was impressed with the effects it had on my skin, a few days after using the cleanser my skin was no longer dry but instead felt smooth and soft again, I have continued to use the cleanser as part of my daily routine, I think it is extremely good value for money, especially as it is priced at just 80p a bottle, my regular cleanser costs 4 times this amount but the effects on my skin are no different, the only difference is that Tesco Cucumber Cleanser moisturises my skin whilst cleansing whereas my regular one does not. I have found the product to be very long lasting as well, again a lot longer than my regular cleanser, I think this is due to the cleanser being a thicker cream rather than a liquid, I tend to use less with the cleanser being in this form. I would certainly recommend this product to anyone, it is cheap, does what it is supposed to do and is gentle on your skin with no strong overpowering fragrances.
