Not a good one for me, I'll stick to Lush toners thanks!

I love Avon for their huge range of products and the fact that you can always pick up a good bargain. I have tried several products from the Solutions range and bought this Maximum Moisture Toner to get me through the winter months where my skin seems to differ from my usual complexion and I need something extra to balance out the dryness from harsh weather conditions and exposure to strong air conditioning and central heating.

Product description: "Avon Solutions Plus+ Maximum Moisture Alcohol Free Hydrating Toner. This hydrating toner makes skin more supple, as it removes residue and refines pores. Leaves skin feeling conditioned and remarkably revitalized. Suitable for sensitive skin. Dermatologist tested. Hypoallergenic. Non-comedogenic."

The toner comes in a large bottle containing 200mls of product. The plastic bottle is white with blue markings on the label. There is a screw top lid and the product is dispensed through a small hole in a seal covering the neck of the bottle. This is quite helpful for controlling how much you want to use and getting the right amount each time you use it.

Directions for use: After cleansing, apply toner cotton ball, and wipe face and throat.

Toning is a necessary step between cleansing and moisturising to remove any leftover traces of make-up or cleansing products, and to close the pores before moisturising which should help avoid getting product trapped in the pores which can lead to spots. To use this toner I just remove the lid and pour a bit directly onto a cotton pad and use this to wipe over my skin. I've recently started using re-useable cotton cleansing cloths from the Body Shop instead of disposable cotton wool pads, and these are really effective for applying the toner.

This toner has a very thin and watery consistency, and sometimes it did feel a little like I was just wiping my face with plain water. I didn't feel like it helped with reducing my pores which are naturally quite open. I also didn't feel like my skin was any more clean or that this toner helped to add any extra moisture to my skin. I really didn't feel like there were any noticeable effects at all after using it, and to be honest I might as well not have bothered!

On the good side, this product is free from alcohol and it was very gentle on my face so I think this could suit people who have delicate or sensitive skin. Because the toner felt so weak I ended up using quite a lot for each application, and I was literally almost soaking the cotton pad in the toner. Even so the 200ml bottle did last a very long time and I stuck with it for a couple of months to see if there was any improvement from prolonged use - sadly not!
