I tried this after reading excellent reviews saying it was one of the best buy beauty serums and far less expensive then some of the premium names but just as, if not more, effective! I had previously found the packaging a little off-putting, but I'm so glad I tried it! I have greasy skin which is also sensitive and can be dry in patches, so I have looked long and hard for a moisturiser/serum which is effective and easily absorbed without being too heavy and cloying or disappearing instantly without a trace! It's like looking for the Holy Grail! One of my main bugbears is anything that is too thin and watery so doesn't have any effect, but equally anything that is too thick and gloopy which adds an unattractive sheen to the face! I also wanted something which was 'youthening' and would noticeably reduce wrinkles around my mouth and eyes. Hey kids, don't smoke - it will come back to haunt you very soon! Make Yourself Youthful comes in a very handy pump action dispenser and is a light, easily-absorbed fluid which smells lovely too. Fine lines are less visible and my skin feels much softer and firmer. Despite the fragrance, it is not irritating to my skin and is a nice soothing start to the day! When I ran out of stocks and couldn't get any for a couple of weeks, my skin became much dryer and duller so it really showed me the difference it makes. I wouldn't be without it now and really notice the difference if I use other products, so I'm sticking with this one!
I normally use Aldi's serum because it is so cheap but for Christmas my Mum bought me this Soap & Glory serum as I had my eye on it for a while. Currently in Boots this is reduced to £12 instead of £16. The packaging is different from the picture above. The serum comes in a really nice silver bottle which makes it look expensive. The tube is pump action. Inside the serum you get 50ml. Soap & Glory claim this serum helps to re energise tired skin, smooth surface imperfections and reduce fine lines, brighten, tone and tighten skin, refine pores and perfect uneven skin tone, prevent water loss by acting as a moisturiser and helps to prevent ageing. The main reason I wanted this serum was because it acts as a moisturiser too. Some other serums I have tried need a moisturiser as well and it feels a little heavy on my skin. I have clear skin which sometimes gets dry and tight especially in the winter when I have the heating on at home a lot. I do have the odd visible pore but overall I am quite lucky in that I never need to use make-up. To use the serum you simply massage a pump or 2 into skin morning and night after cleansing. It is recommended you massage in using just the tips of your fingers. The serum has a gel like consistency and is white in colour. It smells really nice. I found that this absorbed really well into my skin and it felt lightweight after use. If you were to use this and then put make-up on it would make a good base as it doesn't take long to be fully absorbed. After using this I could see a noticeable difference in my skin, it looked a lot brighter. I found that my skin felt moisturised and I didn't need to follow on with a moisturiser. The bottle does say you can use a moisturiser if you need to. I have been using this since Christmas twice a day and my skin looks bright and healthy. I am 28 so I don't have any fine lines (yet!) but it really makes a difference to my skin especially when I am lacking in the sleep department. As you only need a small amount this bottle will last me a while because a little goes a really long way one pump is plenty for my skin. I would recommend this serum it is really nice and worth paying the extra money for. Another fantastic facial product from S&G.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Soap and Glory fan ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I recently ran out of the face cream I had been using, so off I popped to Boots, armed with some vouchers. I soon discovered that Soap and Glory facial skincare products were on a 3 for 2 offer so I decided to have a look... For those of you that aren't familiar with the Soap and Glory brand, it's a fun and quirky brand with very distinctive retro style packaging and puntastic names (such as a shower gel called Clean On Me and a lipgloss called MotherPucker). The products are in the mid-priced range and I have tried out a fair few of the body care products and, in the main, have been really impressed. My favourite is the Righteous Butter body butter which has a delicious fragrance but, like most items in the range I have tried out, is a little overpriced for my liking! ~~~~~~~ New faces ~~~~~~~ Despite using various products in the range I'd never tried out any facial skincare items except for a face scrub which I quite liked. All the face creams and related products are around the £10-£15 mark which is a bit more than I would usually spend, but is hardly a top range price when it comes to face creams. I messed around with the testers for a while and finally chose my three products. One of those that I purchased - and the one I've been using at least once a day since I bought it - is the Make Yourself Youthful Super Rejuvenating Face Serum (phew - that's quite a mouthful!). I have used face serums before and been fairly underwhelmed, but I liked this when I tried the tester and decided to give it a go. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Has your face had it? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The product comes in a 50ml bottle with a pump action dispenser and costs £13.28. If you're buying from Boots, you get 52 Advantage Card points with your purchase. The bottle comes in a cardboard box and, as always with S&G products, it is lovely appealing packaging with lots of pinks and silver tones, and a cheeky bikini clad lady peeking over her shoulder. The product promises to rejuvenate your skin, decreasing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, whilst smoothing, invigorating and moisturising. Alongside Soap and Glory's "exclusive" ingredients, it also contains ginseng, shea butter and sweet orange peel essential oil. According to the company, testers reported having re-energized, smoother, healthier, firmer and younger looking skin following a 30-day trial, and most users should apparently notice the difference after just three days of use. As well as your face, you can also use this on your neck, chest, hands, or anywhere else you feel has "kind of had-it", in S&G's own words! ~~~~~~~~~~~~ My petit pois blob ~~~~~~~~~~~~ I find I need a very small amount of this product - in fact less than one pump is enough to dispense just the amount I need, which is about half a pea-sized blob. The serum is a white colour and is a bit creamier than other serums I've used which tend to have a thicker, gel-like texture. This is somewhere inbetween. It is very pleasant to apply to the skin - it's light and really refreshing, and it sinks into the skin almost immediately. It also has a lovely fresh, slightly fruity fragrance, which is faintly of orange. The smell is very nice but quite subtle, which is good if you don't like strong smelling creams and potions on your face. As soon as this absorbs, it leaves my face feeling soft and smooth, with no greasiness or slightly sticky residue as I have sometimes felt with other serums. I find this provides the perfect base for my usual make-up. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Gosh - it really is a miracle! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To be honest I am usually pretty cynical about facial skincare products that claim to work miracles and make a difference to your appearance. I have never been bowled over by a face cream or serum and really just use them to moisturise and care for my skin rather than transform my look! But ... and I am surprised to find myself typing this ... this really does seem to make a difference to me. I've been using this every morning for about two weeks now (and sometimes before bed when I remember) and I honestly think my skin looks better - both healthier and smoother. Despite my usual cynicism, I really believe this has improved the appearance of my skin - significantly enough that I definitely notice the change. Usually I need a touch of makeup on my face to look human in the mornings, but since using this my skin definitely looks better and healthier when I roll out of bed. I also find I don't need an additional moisturiser in the morning (although I still use a night cream) as it seems to deliver a lovely moisture boost to my skin, leaving it feeling lovely and soft. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ I feel rejuvenated ~~~~~~~~~~~~ As I am sure you can tell I am a huge fan of this product. Although it's more than I may normally spend, I only need a tiny amount so it will last me ages - and I don't need a separate moisturiser in the daytime either. It is pleasant to use, it refreshes my skin and has a lovely fresh scent. And, best of all, it really has made an improvement to my skin, which is not something I have experienced with other facial skincare products. So all in all it's a thumbs up from me and I will definitely be buying this again. I haven't even tried out the other two Soap and Glory skincare products I purchased at the same time as this as I haven't wanted to skip using the serum, but if they are half as good as this I'll be really happy. Watch this space for my reviews! *** Soap and Glory products are still on a 3 for 2 offer at the time of writing. ***
I own nearly all of Soap & Glory's bath and body products but I haven't ventured too far into their facial skin care range and I've always preferred to use the more conventional brands. I saw the Make Yourself Youthful, Super Rejuvenating Face Serum by Soap & Glory being mentioned in a magazine and it had received credit for its abilities so I thought I'd give it a try. What is the purpose of the product? A serum is much more hard working than a moisturiser. It is super concentrated and packed full of the nutrients that many moisturisers lack. It is also able to be absorbed into the deepest layers of the skin, therefore giving it a thorough and complete treatment. This serum is full of nutrients that will rejuvenate the skin, encourage the growth of healthy new skin cells and promises to leave your complexion looking fresh and youthful. How does the product work? The product contains something that Soap & Glory describe as being their Make Yourself Youthful Anti Aging complex which is a plant derived concoction of substances. The substances work together to produce new levels of collagen which plump up and firm the skin. This is turn reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and the serum also gives the skin a fresh boost of oxygen. The serum also contains Shea Butter which is a natural substance that deeply moisturises the skin and allows the skin to retain the moisture. It also nourishes and strengthens the skin and as it contains antioxidants then it will help to keep the skin feeling youthful. It gives the skin a healthy glow and leaves it feeling soft and smooth, and enables it to retain its elasticity. Also included is Ginseng which stimulates and awakens the skin. It gets the blood circulation going, giving you a healthy complexion and helps to prevent the fine lines and wrinkles from forming. Sweet Orange Oil helps to brighten and tone the skin leaving you with a smoother complexion and smaller pores. How do you use the product? The serum is to be applied to your clean, dry face before using your normal moisturiser. You dispense a small amount of the product onto your fingers and then smooth the serum onto your face and neck using gentle movements. Once it's been fully absorbed you can apply your normal moisturiser on top and continue with your normal make up routine. The product can be used twice daily so I choose to use it when I wake up and just before bed. It can also be used on your hands but I think it's a little too expensive for me to do that. Packaging and Price The product comes in a plain white bottle with just a sticker on the front that tells you what it is and I find that this bottle is a little bit boring compared with the brands other products. When you pull off the lid, you see the dispenser and you push down on the top to release the product. In order to purchase the product, you are looking at spending around £13 to get 46ml of the product and this is on par with the price of other serums by similar brands. It can be purchased from department stores such as Boots and also from a few online websites including Boots. My thoughts I have tried quite a few serums over the years and this one is slightly different to the others. Most serums are clear but this one is cloudy colour that becomes clear as it is spread onto the skin. It seems to melt into the skin rather than having to be rubbed in and disappears almost on contact with the skin. The amount of product that comes out with each push of the lid is easy to control and the right amount comes out for one use if you push the lid all the way down. I was afraid that the product would make my oily skin looking even shinier but the formula isn't actually greasy on the skin if you use the right amount and will just sink right in. It perhaps leaves an ever so slight sheen on the skin but no more than my normal moisturiser does so I can't complain about that. It hasn't caused any new spots or blackheads to form either so I think this is a good one for those with oily skin like mine. As with all of Soap & Glory's product, this serum comes with a scent that is hard to ignore. One of my favourite things about the brand is the aroma of their products but I'm not such a fan when it's in a face product. It is a strong citrus smell that I assume comes from the Sweet Orange and although it's a nice fragrance, I think it's unnecessary in a product of this type. On the Soap & Glory website, it boasts about a 30 day trial of this product, where the women saw great results in the appearance of their skin. This seems to suggest that you aren't to expect immediate results from the product. I don't have wrinkles and I only have some tiny fine smile lines at the moment, but I can't say that this has decreased the appearance of them at all so I don't think this product would work well on heavy wrinkles. Despite this fact, it has brightened my complexion and left my skin looking healthier, firmer and more plump. My skin has a certain radiance after use which I like and I do appear more fresh faced even when I haven't long woken up. I can't say my skin looks much younger but so far, my skin isn't showing many signs of aging thankfully so there isn't much work for the product to do in that department just yet anyway. All in all, this product doesn't make my skin shinier or cause spots. It does make my skin soft, smoother and in an all round better condition. So far, there has been no reduction in my smile lines after using the product for the 30 days but I do look healthier and my complexion is brighter. Although I like the smell, I don't like it being in a face product and the results haven't quite blown me away enough for me to remain loyal to it. I will happily continue to use the product until it's gone but the search continues for my perfect serum.
Soap & Glory Make Yourself Youthful serum is available from Boots, Harvey Nichols and Asos online. Its usual price is £13 for 46ml, but I managed to get it for around half price - it was around a year ago, so I can't quite remember! Serums are a relatively new addition to the skincare market, I think, having only been around for the last few years. I'm not sure if they're completely essential, or a bit of a gimmick, but I remain open-minded. The Make Yourself Youthful serum is presented in a box, printed with a nice 1950s photograph of a glamorous woman, with pink accents, as is the signature style of the Soap & Glory range. The container itself is a nice, white plastic pump with a lid. It's easy to open, and the bottle has a nice, subtle appearance that would suit anyone's dressing-table. I think a pump is a good way of dispensing a serum, because it avoids wastage from getting too much out, and also prevents the remainder of the product becoming contaminated with anything. The serum itself is a white, mainly opaque liquid, of a medium consistency; not thin, not especially thick. You need slightly more than a pea-size of the product to cover your face, and you can also apply it to your neck, and your body and your hands, if they need a bit of extra moisture and protection, according to the packaging. The first thing that I noticed about the serum is that it smells lovely; it's quite a sweet scent, and it's a sort of citrus-mixed-with-cake fragrance. It's not a sharp, acidic orange. It reminds me of the Club orange cake bars that you can buy, if you've ever tried those. It's refreshing, yet comforting. The serum is easy to spread over the skin, as it glides nicely (probably due to a silicon derivative) and it absorbs quickly. It doesn't sting my face, at all. The serum doesn't pill or rub off if you put too much on, and that is definitely a positive for me, as I absolutely hate using moisturisers and creams that do that! Moisturiser goes on top of it very well, and foundation on top of that, with no problems. I don't know if the serum really makes your skin look younger over time; I didn't really notice a difference. I did feel it was nice for my skin, but I've moved on to the Protect & Perfect serum from the No.7 range now, as that's sort of scientifically proven to make a difference. I also wonder if serums really are necessary, as surely they stop you from absorbing moisturiser. Having said that, it's debateable whether we should want to absorb moisturisers that have parabens and such in them (as does this serum). In conclusion, I found this serum really nice to use, and felt that it helped moisturise my skin, but I'm not entirely sure that it is an effective skincare product in terms of anti-aging, etc. It smells absolutely lovely, though, and I think it would be suitable for all skin types, because it's very gentle and doesn't sting. I'm going to give it four stars!
I absolutely love the whole theme that Soap & Glory carry as a brand. It has a 50's glamorous feel which refelcts the lovely and feminie products. The products in the Soap & Glory range include serums, saops, gels, lotions, the list goes on. This particular product is a 'rejuvinating face serum' with the logo 'Make yourself youthful' on the front of the box. As I'm not particularly using this product to reduce lines or wrinkles on my face but to moisturise my skin and keep it supple and smooth as I find that the skin around the eyes can be subject to sagginess and drying out. ---The packaging--- You don't have to look any further than the box to find some rave reviews of the serum. On the back of the box there are some user reviews such as 'It smells gorgeous' and 'Fantastic- my skin felt so much tighter and firmer'. What a good ploy to get me to buy the product- I was sold from that point on! Inside the gorgeous box, which has a beautiful lady in black and white in a bathing costume surrounded by pink text about the product, is a 50ml oval shaped white tube's worth of the stuff. There is a pushable dispenser which makes it easy to get as much as you want out as you can push more than once if you require more, instead of it being pourable where often too much can come out. ---The Ingredients--- On the side of the box it infroms you that the product contains skin softening shea butter, sweet orange peel oil, stimulating ginseng, botanical soothing extracts hyper-hydrators and their exclusive ''Make yourself youthful' complex. And if you don't know what any of those oils and butters are good for I think the convincing adjectives such as 'softening' and 'stimulating' do a pretty good job of persuading you! ---The serum--- The serum is a lovely thick, smooth and supple texture. It glides on to the skin well and it feels soft and hydrating on the skin. It also has a lovely scent which strongly remings me of a mucky orange smell. It's not too strong but does smell lovely and warm. I fell like it's actually doing something for the skin as it really does feel like it's moisturised it well and doesn't seem to dry out for a while after application. It is once after application that you start to realise that maybe these rave reiews seen on the box could actually be true- it feels like a really rich and expensive product! A small amount is dispensed from the tube but that is all that is needed as it's thick it covers a wider surface area. Having used this product for just 2 weeks now I can honestly say that my skin does feel like it's in a really good condition, feeling smoother and I enjoy applying make up on to it now as it is a lot smoother and not as dry as it was before I tried this stuff. The bottle tells you to apply every morning and night, I would advise you do this as it seems ot work best this way. ---Price and where to buy--- I picked up this product in Boots as it was a 3 for the price of 2 deal on all Soap and Glory products, and with some spare points on my Boots advantage card I thought I would indulge! At £13 on its own however it is a little bit pricey but this serum really does seem to work and has some brilliant reviews written about it. Compared to a lot of other moisturisers however this is a really well priced product. As it is thick as well it will last longer than you might expect a 50ml bottle would. As well as from Boots I've also found this serum on Amazon but it's currently out of stock, however it might be worth a look on eBay as some sellers seem to stock this brand and you could bag yourself a bargain. ---Overall opinion--- I definitely would recommend this product to anyone who wants more moisturised and firmer and more supple skin. The product claims to beat wrinkles and some reviews can really back this claim up so it's well worth a try if those are the kinds of results you're after. When you think some of the more high end range of moisturisers can retail for hundreds of pounds this is just a fraction of the price and claims to do the same things. That's why I give this product 4/5 stars.
I go out swimming 3-4 times a week and occasionally I chat with the other swimmers in the sauna or the steam room. The other day I met an Italian guy who tried to guess my age. As I never had any problem with my age I let him make a guess. He told me I was 28. It was quite close to the reality as I am 32 so I thought it's high time to start using some kind of anti-aging cream on my face. However flattering it was I am aware of the real goal of these white lies... especially in case of womanizer Mediterranean men... When I bought myself the Sit Tight cream from Soap & Glory's range I bought also a Make Yourself Youthful Rejuvenating Face Serum. This product comes in a white and grey cardboard box with loads of pink labels on it. You will recognise it by the huge pink Youthful text on the box. Inside the box there is a simple white plastic bottle. Below the cap there is a pump so you can pump the cream on your finger then apply it on your face. The cream is white and has very nice smooth texture which is not greasy at all. It has gorgeous scent which is dominated by the orange peel oil. The manufacturer says that the product has a special super rejuvenating serum developed for this Make Yourself Youthful Complex. This cream has collagen stimulating and fine line eliminator effect over the usual protecting and moisturizing effect. How to use it? It can be applied in the morning or/and in the evening on the cleaned skin. You can use your regular moisturizing cream after it or put on your make up. This cream is not greasy and makeup can be applied very well on it. I used a few times in the morning too but nowadays I use it in the evenings only. I found that my skin is smoother and more radiant than previously. I use this anti-aging serum as a preventive cream so I hope I won't have fine lines or wrinkles for a while... So the features of this cream are the following: - collagen stimulating effect - collagen is a natural protein and is the main component of the connective tissue and the skin. It is responsible for keeping our skin firm and youthful. - deliner effect - I just hope it will work - moisture trapping matrix - protects and hydrates the skin - stimulating ginseng - shea butter to soften and smooth - sweet orange peel essential oil gives fabulous scent This fabulous cream can be bought in Boots and online at www.soapandglory.com for 13 pounds. The bottle contains 50 ml cream which lasts very long as a little is enough. It can be well spread on the skin. I use it not only on my face but on my neck too. I really love its fantastic scent. Overall I am absolutely satisfied with this cream and I love its gorgeous scent. It is not very strong so you don't have to worry whether it fits your perfume or not. It made my skin more radiant and healthier looking. I hope it makes my fine lines appear later... I have quite sensitive skin on my face but I haven't experienced any allergic reaction. The ingredients are: Aqua / Water, Butylene glycol, Glycerin, PEG-8, Coco-caprylate/caprate, Cyclopentasiloxane, Aluminum starch octenylsuccinate, Sodium polyacrylate, Caprylyl glycol, Glyceryl stearate, Hydrogenated polydecene, Phenoxyethanol, Cetyl alcohol, Butyrospermum parkii (shea butter), Disodium EDTA, Hexylene glycol, Trideceth-6, Limonene, Glyceryl acrylate/acrylic acid copolymer, Panax ginseng root extract, Zea mays (corn) kernel extract, Carbomer, Decyl glucoside, Sodium lactate, Aroma / Flavor, Gynostemma pentaphyllum extract, Parfum / Fragrance, Tocopherol, Xanthan gum, Palmitoyl oligopeptide, Palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7, Citrus aurantium dulcis (orange) peel oil, Linalool, Ascorbyl palmitate, Methylparaben, Ascorbic acid, Citric acid.
My Review: I LOVE the scent of this product! It smells just like Terry's Chocolate Orange which is one of my Top 5 Christmas scents! I don't use this product every day but when I do I use it after I've left my moisturiser to sink in for ten minutes. I love to use it in the winter especially when I'm not wearing makeup as a 'barrier' between the the elements and my skin (note that it doesnt leave any residue on the skin, it sinks in wonderfully). Background: I purchased this product about six months ago on a 1/3rd off promotion. I use the product several times a week in conjunction with Fresh Pharmacy by Lush (Cleanser), Replenishing Rich Moisturiser by Simple (Day Moisturiser) and Clinique Super Rescue Antioxidant Night Moisturizer 'Dry Combination' (Night Moisturiser). Packaging: The product comes in a hard plastic pump style bottle with an outer cardboard box (which I find unnecessary). I think I will have to open up the bottom of the bottle to get the last bit of product out so this could be designed better. Price: The product is about £8-9 normally but there are often 3 for 2 or 1/3rd off promotions at Boots (the Soap and Glory brand is exlusive to Boots) to sweeten the deal. Soap and Glory are one of my favourite bodycare brands - and when I discovered they had launched a new range of skincare products I was first in the queue. I bought this serum a few weeks ago and have been using it on and off ever since. Serums hit the news big time last year with the release and subsequent sensational success of Boots Protect and Perfect serum. Serums are basically highly concentrated clear gels which contain skin boosting ingredients and give a rejuventating and anti ageing effect. However serums are more expensive than your average moisturiser (and you still need one of those) - most high street brands retail for around £17 and luxury brands like SKII can sell for over a hundred. The Soap and Glory Make Yourself Youthful Super Skin Rejuvenating Face Serum is around £12.99 - though Boots generally have deals like 3 for 2 which can make it cheaper. Not only is this one of the cheaper serums around but given that Soap and Glory was started by Bliss spa's founder Marcia Kilgore - you know you're getting something that is good quality. The packaging is similar to the other Soap and Glory skincare products - with a white bottle with a small pump action attachment. The image on the front is a vintage style black and white photograph of a woman and the pink lettering gives it that girlie edge. The serum can be applied day or night underneath your moisturiser but I tend to do it at night - I find serums quite rich and I prefer to apply it without make up over the top. The serum smells lovely though not overly strong and is of a similar consistency to a runny gel. It is colourless and goes onto the face without any greasiness. Waking up the next morning I hadn't lost 10 years - but my skin does feel smooth and less dry and 'stretche'. I find my make up goes on really well the next day and my moisturiser has more effect. I have normal/combination skin but as I live in London am constantly concerned about wrinkles from the filthy air - I think using this every night coiuld definitely combat those City fumes.
A complex of stimulating ginseng, shea butter to soften & smooth, and sweet orange peel essential oil /
