I have fairly good skin - occasional breakouts and also some eczema on my forehead but this is rare. I try a variety of products on my skin, usually based on special offers available and I saw this particular masque for only £1.99 on Halfpriceperfumes.co.uk whilst selling at £5.99 in John Lewis so I thought that I would give it a try. The product is described as a Unisex Cleansing Masque, you are instructed to apply a thick even layer to CLEANSED skin, leave for 5-10 minutes until dry, and to wipe off with a warm damp cloth. It claims it will minimise pores from first use, getting into the pores to clear dirt and at the same time leaving your skin incredibly soft. Looking at the ingredients I had high hopes, it is 100% Paraben free and contains the following; Spring Water, Kaolin, Rotorua Mud, Glycerine, Polysorbate 20, Aloe Vera Gel, Apricot Oil, Jojoba Oil, Citric Acid, Seaweed Extract, Spirulina, Phenoxyethanol, BHT, Tocopherol Acetate (Vitamen E), Orange Oil, Lavender Oil, Limonene, Linalool. Looking at the things I recognise from the above I had high expectations, it may very well be this that made me so disappointed with the results. In general the application was easy, the product hardens fully in about 7 minutes with some areas hardening sooner than others despite layer being even. When hardening you need to not move any facial muscles or the product will crack and it really hurts!! I think I prefer ones which do not feel like concrete once hardened! Further to this, once it has hardened it can be really difficult to get the product off with your damp cloth, it takes me up to 10 minutes to actually get all of the residue off of my face. In terms of actual results the product is poor to average, my skin was soft but not THAT soft. My pores were not any smaller and I used the product 3 times after this to see if it was something I was doing each time with similar results. I am not a fan, I would not recommend this product to anyone.
Being a man the idea of me using a mud masque may at first seem odd to others but a girl friend of mine recommended it as a solution to dry skin that I suffered form during the winter periods. As I'm someone who will usually try everything once I decided to put aside any reservations about what my male friends might think and bought myself a tube. Initially I was at a lost as to how and what this will do so I went ahead and did some research, according people in the know a mud masque absorbs excess oil on the skin, purges the impurities in the skin and tightens pores, I assume it also helps dry skin because it certainly did for me. The product comes in a tube, smells really nice, is unisex and has aloe vera so it's hard to fault it based on those facts alone. When applying to the face it goes on very easily and hardens in around 5 minutes though I usually waited 10 minutes to give it time to do its job. I then rubbed it off with a damp cloth as recommended on the box (though I'm sure warm water will do just as fine). While the mud masque dries moving your facial muscles becomes more impossible by the minute so there's no chance of talking to friends while you have this on so you should probably set aside 10 minutes of alone time before you use it. After first use my face felt amazing, it was incredibly smooth I literally couldn't believe it. I'm not sure exactly how this product works but it the fact that it does is a plus in my book. I stuck to using it twice (once is generally the suggested norm but I really hate dry skin) a week and it eventually fully solved my skin problem so I'd immediately recommend it simply for that alone. Mine has since run out and I haven't bought a new tube simply because thankfully, the winter is over making my previous dry skin woes non-existent but it's still a good buy for those who feel they need to add a mud masque to their weekly skin care routine.
Skinfood Mud Masque acts as a deep cleanser, getting deep into the pores to help remove dirt and debris that builds up on the face / The effects are visible even after the first use / pores appear smaller and your skin feels incredibly soft /
