A good quality nightcream from a brand inspired by Lulu

I received this to test from the Beauty Bible The box had contemporary packaging and text on a pale olive background. It claims to be the 'secret weapon in the war against ageing' on the box. I have to admit to being a tad sceptical when it comes to the anti-ageing product claims. I don't expect real miracles, but I want one that at least makes my skin look and feel as good as it can.

The actual jar is round (like a cartoon 'bomb' shape that you'd get in a Tom & Jerry cartoon), and has numbers around the edge, from 49-20. I'm not 49, but I wouldn't mind my twenty year old skin again....

Looking at the ingredients list there are some things I recognise and some things I don't. I have included the full list at the bottom for those that are interested. I like the inclusion of lavender and rosemary oils, plus it contains rice, bran oil, yeast and wheat. I have no idea if this could cause a problem with anyone who has an intolerance. It also contains parabens which some people prefer to avoid.

The product also claims to add an "invisible light rice bran waxy barrier on the skin" which, quite frankly, sounds disgusting. I had visions of bran flakes and candles being blended on my face. However the cream is very smooth, so this layer plainly is invisible. It also contains non-water soluble grain derived antioxidants, which they claim is a good thing as it protects against those free-radicals and won't wash away your body's natural water. I couldn't tell you the difference between one antioxidant and another so I think I am going to have to take their word for this one.

The screw top jar is easy to undo and do up again, so shouldn't cause problems for those who have problems gripping or limited strength. The chunky round shape means it is easy to hold and grip. The first thing you notice when you take the lid off is the smell of lavender. I love this smell in my night creams as the essential oil is a good bedtime scent and has long been proven to be good at relaxing and de-stressing. It is not rocket science to work out that a good night's sleep also helps your skin look fresh and rejuvenated the next morning.

The cream inside the pot is white, rich and soft. It reminds me a bit of cold cream but is slightly more gloopy. It is easy to scoop out with your fingertips and smooths on very easily. I haven't really needed to rub it in, it just gently and elegantly soaks in by itself in a few minutes. I apply it to clean, dry skin. Lying in bed later, my skin feels soft and moisturised (but not greasy) and I am reassured that it is doing my skin good. In the morning I also find my skin is soft and looks good.

I am fortunate that my skin looks in good for me age, and I think using this product will help maintain that. Obviously it is a subjective opinion. I can't prove that using this has made my skin look younger/better, but in my opinion it has.

I wasn't familiar Lulu's Timebomb as a brand so I checked them out on-line before writing this review. I was surprised to discover the brand was named after THE Lulu. I can't say I am a fan (I am so over the "Weeeeeeeeeeeeell....." intro to 'Shout' that she insists on doing every time she pops up on TV) but I do like her skincare range, so I will forgive her. The website is simple and sophisticated and she is not leaping about all over it and being annoying. It would appear that she is the 'inspiration' behind the brand, so I am not sure how much involvement she actually has. I'm not a fan of celebrity endorsed stuff as a general rule, as I judge a product on its merits, rather then because a singer or actress that I couldn't give a monkey's @?%£ about, has their face plastered all over the advertising. However this is a good product and I do recommend it to you.

Now for the ugly bit. On the timebomb website (http://www.timebombco.com/uk/) the Flash Back cream 45ml (which is what I have) is £30.75. Postage and packing is extra, unless you spend over £50. The 15ml version is £9.50 for those who would prefer to not spend out so much. It is also available on QVC so there may be some offers on there is you watch regularly. I do think the price is quite expensive but my jar has lasted me months, as you don't need to use much. For the standard of product you get, I don't think this represents bad value for money.
