A few months ago I was trying out lots of different face creams to try and find an ideal one to suit my skin type and also because now that I'm in my thirties, I feel I need to pay extra attention to my skin to slow down the ageing effect! I have tried creams from varying price ranges but I think I've found the one that I like the best - L'Oreal Collagen Re-Plumper (with collagen biospheres - night).
The name of this cream does suggest that it is a night cream but I must say that I use it as both a night and day cream. This is because most day creams that I have tried just don't seem to be moisturising enough. This includes more expensive creams that make all sorts of claims about being hydrating. I find that this night cream by L'Oreal is just right for my skin which is mainly dry but can get greasy at times in the t-zone (I have combination skin but it's definitely more dry than greasy).
This cream contains collagen biospheres and claims to 'plump' up the skin. I must admit that I do not usually fall for claims such as these and am not convinced that collagen biospheres can and are formulated in a way that allows effective delivery to the skin. But what I can say about this product is that it feels good on my skin and that it smells good! When applying this to my face, my skin instantly feels softer and elasticated, which of course is a very pleasant feeling. In terms of how it makes my skin look I will say that my skin definitely has a youthful glow and looks soft after application, but as I am blessed with good skin, I'm not sure how much of this is down to the cream. The cream also smells great to me which is important because if I'm going to be wearing it all day it does need to smell good! The smell is very 'clean' and also has a feminine feeling to it, which I like.
The consistency of the cream is slightly thicker than most day creams. But that's to be expected as it is designed to be a night cream. Like I said I do not mind this at all as I prefer a cream to have a thicker consistency as it feels like it leaves my skin feeling more moisturised than most normal (and often expensive) day creams would.
The price of the cream is also very reasonable especially when on special offer. I seem to be lucky as every time I need to buy a new pot (I'm now on my third over a period of around 8 months) it seems to be discounted. I think the full price is £15 for 50 ml, but I bought my last pot for £7.99 from Boots.
In conclusion I love this cream and am unlikely to keep trying new creams as I think this one suits my combination skin really well. People with naturally greasy skin might find that it makes their skin more greasy but I definitely don't have this problem.
I first came into contact with Wrinkle De-Crease Collagen Re-Plumper Day Cream by L'oreal (what a mouthful!) when I received a free sample in my Glamour magazine. It is one of the brands newest anti wrinkle creams and it is actually enriched with collagen.
Its purpose is to reduce wrinkles, laughter lines and crows feet by plumping up the skin and making it more supple and youthful. L'oreal claims that it will improve both the appearance and the feel of your skin instantly. It also has UVA protection to prevent any further damage being caused to the skin from exposure to the sun.
The cream hydrates the skin for up to 24 hours and according to studies carried out by the brand, 73% of people agree that it leaves their skin plumper while 83% agreed that their skin was smoother after use. These results were based on 217 women, which is better that some brands which tell you that 75% of people agreed, only to read in the small print that it was tested on only 4 women!
How does it work?
Collagen is a type of protein found naturally in the body and its purpose is to give the body tissues strengths and firmness. As it starts to degenerate, wrinkles form and the skin begin to sag. This cream is enriched with collagen meaning that your skin will become firmer and wrinkles and fine lines are reduced. The Collagen Biospheres present in the cream sink into the wrinkles and inflate, filling in the 'cracks' and making the skin looking fuller and healthier. It also contains sillicone which helps to give the cream the perfect consistency to smooth over the skin and reduce wrinkles instantly.
How do you use the product?
The product is suitable for daily use and can be applied as often as required. The cream is to be used on clean, dry skin instead of your usual moisturiser and is to be gently massaged into the face and neck until it has been completely absorbed. You should concentrate in particular on the areas where wrinkles and fine lines have started to show. Leave for a few minutes before applying make up or just go bare faced if you're brave enough!
The product comes in a pearlescent lilac jar with a white screw top lid, which has a lilac top. The cream is cheaper than many of its rivals, costing around £8 for 50ml. The product can be bought from many department stores, larger supermarkets and many online websites. If you find that you like this product then also available is the Collagen Re-plumper night cream which has a dark purple lid instead of a white once. Also available in the collection is the Collagen Filler for the eyes and lips and a Collagen Remodeller.
The cream itself is fairly thick and pure white in colour. It has a fresh, slightly floral smell that lingers on the skin. Despite it being thick, it is easily absorbed in the skin and feels cool and a bit tingly on the face. It leaves a slightly shiny sheen on the skin which is not good for me, as my skin is greasy enough to start with. It does seem to plump up my skin and made my fine lines disappear although they are very fine to start with.
I tried it on the palms on my hands to see what the results would be like on older skin than mine and it was quite astonishing. It made the lines on my hands disappear so much that a palm reader would have had great difficulty telling my future! The only problem was that the cream settled into some of the deeper lines leaving white lines of cream in the wrinkles but after a few minutes the white marks disappeared.
All in all, this cream is too rich for my skin at the moment as it is marketed for being for skin over 30 years old and I think if I used it all over, it would cause spots on my face as its consistency is a little greasy. If you're over thirty and your skin is showing signs of aging, I would say this is well worth a try before you splash out on the some of its more pricey competitors.
I came across this product when I was in Tesco as I was looking for a new cream to try out and I was fed up of using the same sort of creams. I don't really buy expensive creams but this one was on special offer at £6. So it is available in day and night cream I got both as at £6 each I got 2 for the price of £12.
It comes in a blue square box and inside is the cream, which is a glass blue round tub with a matching blue lid. On the front is loreal in gold writing then underneath it says collagen re-plumper.
The cream is supposed to reduce lines in the face and make them less visible to the eye. It can be used on fine lines near the eyes or smile lines and forehead lines. I use it mostly to hopefully try and stop any wrinkles from forming.
The cream goes on nicely it is not sticky or oily its nice and soft and the smell is quite nice too. On using the cream my face felt and looked a lot firmer and I was quite impressed. I find that I see best results with the day cream over the night cream I'm not sure why this is though.
Before using the cream it is important to fully cleanse the face and then it's just a matter of rubbing the cream into the face putting a bit more cream where it is more required. I put the day cream on before I put my make up on the morning and I find that my make up goes on ok over the top of the cream. I then after taking make up in the evening apply the night cream.
Goes on Nicely
Reduces fine lines
Night cream not as good as day
Costs about £10
It states that results can be seen within 24 hours and I have to say that I agree with this as my face felt nice and soft and looked better around the eye area. The cream should last over a month depending on how much it is used. The actual price is £10 and I would say that if your looking for a cream to reduce fine lines then give it a try as it does work and make a difference. If just buying one I would suggest getting the day cream, as it is this one that you can see a difference compared with the night cream.
I never buy these products that promise younger looking skin miracles but something about this caught my eye.
I bought a 50ml jar, which is actually bigger than it sounds for £7 in Tesco. It comes in very classy looking packaging, a purple jar with gold writing and feels satisfyingly heavy, so you feel that you are getting good value for money. When I first opened it my first thought was that the smell was gorgeous, not too over powering but lovely. It smells clean and luxurious, if that makes sense? The cream itself is lovely to put on, its sinks in very quickly and left my face feeling very well hydrated and soft, and the lovely smell was apparent for ages, again not in an overpowering way, very subtle.
The adverts for this claim that you will notice visible reductions in fine lines and wrinkles in a couple of weeks, though to be honest (having been using it daily for about 2 weeks), I haven't noticed any difference. The benefit for me is simply feeling that I have allowed myself a few minutes of 'me time' and pampering, however small.
There is even a leaflet in the box recommending the best way to apply this cream, apparently massaging it into the cheeks is the best way, I imagine the very act of massage would help your skin.
I bought the day cream and there is also a night cream version available which I am going to buy next.
I logged on to L'Oréal's website a few months ago and ordered my sample of this day cream. After trying it, it was the only thing I asked my husband to buy me for Christmas.
L'Oréal Wrinkle De-Crease Collagen Re-Plumper Day Cream with Collagen.
Availability and Price
The day cream will cost you from £6.00 - £8.00 for 50ml. It's available from Boots, Superdrug, and many online retailers.
The packaging is quite simple yet stylish. It comes in a white box with a picture of the pot on the front, the product name, with the claims to "Visibly reduce the appearance of wrinkles" and "Gives skin a Bouncy feel."
There are directions on the side of the box, another picture of the cream, a product description and underneath are the ingredients.
Inside the box is an instruction leaflet about the best directions to massage the cream into the skin and details of their other products in this range.
The circular pot itself is a purple blue colour, the lid is also this colour with a white rim, the product name and frequency of usage are written on it.
How to use
This cream is designed to be used after you have cleansed your face and neck. Unscrew the top lid, remove the plastic cover underneath, and just dip a finger tip into the cream, then massage into your face and neck.
The Collagen Re-Plumper's purpose is, hydrate, improve the plumpness of skin and to reduce the visibility of wrinkles.
My skin feels looks and feels radiant.
I use this once every morning after cleansing and before applying my make up. I have been using this since Christmas and I am not even a quarter of the way down the pot yet, which for me is good value.
The white creme is very thick and not at all runny. I run the surface of my finger over the cream, and although it looks quite translucent on my finger, it is more than enough to massage into a little circle about 2 to 3 inches in diameter, I just repeat this till I have done my whole face.
For me it is a great base before putting foundation on, but I would always advise to leave it about 5 minutes before doing this, because it does need a little time to thoroughly soak into the skin, otherwise it can leave you skin feeling greasy and looking a little shiny.
There is a very gentle smell to the cream, its quite a bland smell and reminds me a little of E45 and as soon as its on your skin you can't smell a thing.
So is my skin more hydrated?
Yes it certainly is, I suffer from eczema, dry and sensitive skin on my face. This has really helped keep my skin hydrated for longer with out becoming greasy or blocking my pours, and it hasn't irritated my eczema. Friends have even commented that my skin looks more radiant.
Does my skin feel plumper?
I honestly didn't think it would, but over the past week it has felt a lot firmer and softer too.
I know I'm only 27 but I do have wrinkles on my forehead, at the side of my eyes and underneath. I personally think it has reduced the visibility of them especially the ones on my forehead, but that may also have something to do with me not frowning at the other half so much!
Would I recommend it?
I really would. It is brilliant value for money. It is very gentle on sensitive skin, and even if you don't believe in the wrinkle decrease claims of the product, it does really leave your skin feeling soft and smooth. I like this product so much I'm going to buy the night version as well.
