A gentle and effective eye make up remover which also hydrates the skin

I have tried quite a few cream cleansers in my time because I find them very useful for taking off eye make up as facial washes don't usually remove all of mascara or eye liner. I am not faithful to any in particular so when I run out of one, I usually chose a new type. On a recent trip to Boots, I chose to use some of my vouchers on a 'posher' cream cleanser and so I chose the Secret de Purete Cleansing Milk by Guerlain.

      What does the product do?
The product promises that it can remove even waterproof make up quickly while also hydrating the skin. It claims that it will leave the skin cleansed, smoother and illuminated, removing signs of tiredness, and it also claims that it will keep the skin looking younger for longer. It is suitable for use on all skin types. The cleanser contains Crystal Lotus Flower which has been included to purify the skin and also to restore it back to its former glory.

How do you use the product?
This product can be used on its own to cleanse the face but I use a facial wash first. I then dispense some of the product onto my hand and then your my finger tip to massage the product onto the eye area. Then I use a cotton pad to wipe away the make up and I repeat this until the pads come away clean. I then moisturise my face and carry on with my usual make up regime.

      Packaging and Price
The product comes in an expensive looking white bottle which has some writing and information printed onto it. The lid is silver and it has Guerlain indented in it. When you remove the lid, you see the pump mechanism which you push down on in order for the product to be released. The product doesn't come cheap and it will cost you around £30 to purchase it. It can be bought from department stores such as Boots and also from a variety of online websites.

      Application and Performance
The product is white in colour and it has quite a thick consistency and it looks a bit like a heavy moisturiser. When you apply the product to the skin, it feels very lightweight and the formula isn't greasy at all which is a blessing if you have oily skin like mine. It feels completely comfortable on the skin and it doesn't irritate me at all. It feels really hydrating so it is just as moisturising as promised which helps to keep your skin looking younger for longer.

It is easy to wipe away with a cotton pad and because it is so hydrating, it doesn't pull or drag your skin as you are wiping it away which will prevent wrinkles from forming. It removes every last bit of my make up, even my water proof mascara, and it does so quickly so you don't need to keep rubbing the skin. After use my skin feels soft and there isn't any redness left behind. It hasn't caused any blemishes and it leaves my skin feeling squeaky clean. I'm not sure if it illuminated as was promised but then I didn't buy it for this reason so I don't mind.

      Conclusion
This is a gentle but effective cream cleanser which quickly removes eye make up while hydrating the skin. It is expensive but you only use a little bit at a time so it will be long lasting. I really like this product and I would repurchase it once it is all gone. I'm knocking off one star just because it is a bit too expensive

      Disadvantages

4/5 a lovely product with a high price tag.

My Mum received Guerlain Secret De Purete Cleansing Milk as a sample sometime last year, she loved the product and went out and bought a full sized version. Although she did use it for a while she stopped after a couple of months and started using a new product, it's sat in our bathroom cupboard for a while now so a few weeks ago I thought I might as well try it.

The price of the Cleansing Milk does vary a lot, however my mum picked hers up for about £30 for a 200ml bottle- very expensive! The packaging is very elegant, it's a white bottle white widens towards the top with gold text and a gold lid with a royal blue top- it definitely looks very expensive. The lid pops off very easily if you put this in a drawer or bag which isn't good, however the pump used to dispense the milk is quite stiff so I've never had any problems with spillage. Although we're not near the end of our bottle yet I should imagine it's hard to get the last bits out because of the pump, this isn't ideal for such an expensive product.

The cleansing milk is quite thick and creamy, I like to apply it using cotton wool but if I've run out I do sometimes just use my fingers. As the cleansing milk is quite thick you don't have to use too much which is always good when using such an expensive product. The milk is very gentle, despite it being quite thick. It has a lovely fresh, delicate scent to it which reflects the product which can be used on sensitive skin and can be used on the whole face including lips and eyes.

After use my skin did feel really good, it felt completely fresh and clean. The milk also made my skin feel much more hydrated which is a lovely added bonus and my mum noticed that my face looked a lot brighter and a lot fresher.

I do feel that Guerlain Secret De Purete Cleansing Milk, although it's a good product is overpriced. It makes my skin feel and look great and I have been using it for a couple of weeks now and although you don't need too much I am noticing the bottle emptying quite quickly. I think the packaging could be designed better as pump action bottles often have lots of product left in the bottom and as the cleansing milk is so expensive this will be a huge waste of money.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

An excellent cleansing milk from the Guerlain range.

While shopping in London a couple of weekends ago I saw a huge amount of people (mainly, but not exclusively, women) all clustered around a rather harrassed looking young lady in a large department store. Always the nosy one, I wandered over to see what all the fuss was about. It turned out she was giving out samples of Guerlain products, sachets of various products for which consumers were supposed to request a free skin care consultation in order to receive these samples. There was a problem, however, in that the consultation emails and letters had been sent out some months ago and when the influx of people arrived to take advantage of this offer Guerlain had somehow forgotten about it and there were no staff members available to actually *do* these consultations. Yet in true (very rude) London style women were demanding the samples be given out as, rightly, it was not their error.

I decided to get in the queue myself, I had some time to kill before an appointment and have been impressed with Guerlain products in the past so thought I would try some more of their skincare range. By the time I got to the front of the queue there were only samples of Secret de Pureté Cleansing Milk available, but I managed to get hold of six reasonably large sachets and have been using them ever since.

The product itself is a lightweight facial cleanser which you can either use with cotton wool or your fingertips. It's a little thicker than the majority of cleansing milks I have used in the past and also feels rather creamier to the touch, this is a definite plus point as I find the very thin cleansing milks can prove rather wasteful as it's extremely difficult to use it without spilling drips and drops all over the sink. This may sound like I am being very 'tight' here, but the high price of this type of product means most people want to use (and not waste) as much as possible.

Secret de Pureté has a delightful scent; it's rich and creamy, yet managed to keep a refreshing fragrance which is common with high quality cleansing milks such as this. It is designed to be used all over the face, including the lip and eye area, and is therefore very gentle - despite having rather sensitive skin around my eyes I successfully and painlessly used it to remove the mascara I had worn for a recent family get-together and I see no reason why women with sensitive skin shouldn't use this product.

The cleansing properties of Secret de Pureté are second to none. I favour using cotton wool for application and removal as I think this is a far more hygienic way to cleanse my face, this method worked well for me using the sachets and if you are using the full sized pump action bottle I suspect it will work equally successfully. Using a small amount of milk in a delicate sweeping motion will leave your skin feeling clean, refreshed and (most importantly for me) completely unsticky after use. I mention this as a much cheaper brand of cleansing milk I used recently left my facial skin feeling tacky to the point where I eventually had to re-cleanse using a bog standard Avon face wash, simply to remove this awful feeling.

This is not the case with Secret de Pureté, my skin feels absolutely wonderful after two weeks of using this cleansing milk and I have no qualms about shelling out the £28 to purchase a full sized bottle. I particularly liked how moisturising the milk is, I have terribly dry skin and found this cleanser did hydrate my skin somewhat better than others of this type I have used. Guerlain also make the statement that by using this product it will help to illuminate my skin; this I actually didn't notice personally, but my daughter (who obviously has much younger skin than myself) did comment on how bright and youthful her complexion was after using up her samples.

I am extremely impressed with this delightful product. I must admit I am the type of woman who uses more mid-range priced products than Guerlain ordinarily, although in this instance I am more than happy to try out more products from their brand as I have had such wonderful results with this cleansing milk.
