Elemis excellence from start to finish...
This product does not come with fancy packaging nor does it come with any claims that it cannot fulfil. Plain and simple this product is sublime and as such should dance across the store shelves wearing bells and whistle to celebrate just how fantastic it is! A beautician introduced me to the elemis skin care range and since I first started using their products over 5yrs ago I have not looked back. Tri-Enzyme Resurfacing Facial Wash will become a must in your arsenal against aging.
This facial wash comes in a 200ml pump dispenser container and retails on average at £27 - 60; admittedly this skin care range is on the pricey end of the skin care market but it does produce results and a little goes a long way. It is light but creamy in consistency which works perfectly with the dispenser it is sold in as it ensures that there is much less wasted when the wash is nearly all finished - Please see my Hot Tip for getting the leftovers out of your beauty product containers at the end of my review J I like to wet my face with warm water, put a single 'pump' of face wash in my hand and massage thoroughly all over my face it produces a satisfying and cleansing lather. It rinses off easily and literally leaves your skin feeling squeaky clean without the 'drying' effect that I have experienced with similar products. It is gentle enough to use on a daily basis and has for me personally produced dramatic results.
It is uncomplicated to use and its simplicity in application is one of the most pleasing aspects of this facial cleanser. I have experienced a reduction in the size of my pores, particularly across the bridge of my nose. Alongside this the scarring that I have on my chin has been dramatically improved by using this facial cleanser. I have a tendency to get the usual 'time of the month' break - out and this product definitely helps contain the level of the break - out as well as clears it up in super quick time.
The only 'negative' I can honestly say about this product is that it is pricey BUT it does last a long time and it is incredibly effective; so for me personally it is definitely a price I will happily pay!
All said and done this product is expensive and I tend to use it on a rotation system with other skin care products I have come to love and trust. This is a facial wash you can trust as it does exactly as it says on the bottle. Buy it and try it you will not be disappointed; I may not wake up tomorrow looking like Kim Kardashian BUT I will wake up with fresh and radiant skin looking the best possible version of me, here's to happy skin for us all.
I certainly do not like wasting anything especially not something, which I have spent a fair amount of my hard earned money on; so to make sure you maximise all 'pump action' dispenser product try the following. Lay the container flat on a chopping board; using a knife (safety precautions - mind your fingers!!!) cut the container in half width wise. Stand the bottom of the container up, scoop all the product in the top end of the container into the bottom half; make sure you also dispense the remaining product that is in the pipe into the bottom part of the container. Turn the top half dispenser downwards and insert into the bottom half. Not only will be able to use pretty much every last drop but also by using the top half as a lid your products will not dry out - next time you need to use just pop the lid off and away you go!
I hope you enjoyed reading my review,
I bought this during a bad bout of pregnancy acne, it was expensive but it had great reviews and since I have very sensitive skin I have to be careful.
I bought a very small bottle of this 50ml for about £8 on ebay. It actually cost around £25 for the full bottle which is expensive, but it does last a long time, you don't need much.
The face wash is in a small white bottle, and the face wash itself is white and creamy.
How to use
Just use like any other face wash, squirt into hands, lather up and rub onto face. You really don't need that much as a small amount goes a long way.
I love it, I really love it. After I've used it, my skin is soft, baby soft, even and smooth. Even without any moisturiser. It clears up my acne and my dry skin and it leaves my skin looking radiant. I don't use it every single day, only a couple of times a week because it is SO expensive. But since my skin is super sensitive and this doesn't cause any problems, I really do love it.
This is an expensive, high end product. But unlike some products, this actually does what it says on the bottle, it does leave your skin smooth and refined, and I'm happy to spend the money on it again when my small bottle runs out.
The Tri-Enzyme Resurfacing Facial Wash by Elemis is so much more than your average facial wash. Not only does it promise to clean the skin and remove excess oils and impurities but it also claims to stimulate your skin to generate healthy new skin cells. In addition to this it will also remove the dead and dull skin cells resting on the face and leaves your complexion looking radiant and healthy. Overall, it promises to completely resurface the skin, allowing your skin to become youthful again.
How does it work?
The special ingredient in this product is created using the Tri-Enzyme technology developed by Elemis. This is the technology that carries out the resurfacing of the skin by removing the dead top layer, and encouraging the healthy development of the layer underneath. According to trials carried out by Elemis, the technology improves the smoothness of the skin by up to 91%.
The product contains Brazilian Babussu Oil, which comes from Palm trees and is used here to replenish the moisture levels of the skin. Also included is Moringa which offers protection to the skin, while also hydrating it and preventing the formation of fine lines and wrinkles. White Truffle is included in order to soothe the skin and keeps it healthy.
Galactoarabinan is the natural substance which is responsible for the exfoliating action in this product. It is a gentle exfoliation without any hard particles whatsoever which means it is gentle on the skin. By removing the dead skin cells, it means the new layers underneath are revealed and the complexion appears radiant and the skin feels smooth. The ingredient also helps to tighten the skin and reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
How do you use the product?
The product can be used morning and night, or whenever you feel the need to cleanse your face. I splash my face with water to make it damp and then pump out some of the product into my hand. I then massage it into my skin, taking care to avoid the eye and lip area. When I am happy that I have massaged the product in enough, I wipe it off with a damp flannel and then rinse my face to ensure that it is all completely off. Afterwards, I follow it up with a moisturiser and begin my usual make up routine.
Packaging and Price
The product comes in a classy white bottle which has some black writing on the front. At the top of the bottle there is a silver metallic band, and above that there is a white pump dispenser. The product is fairly pricey costing around £27 for 200ml but it is long lasting due to the amount that you get and the small amount that you use each time. The product can be bought from most large department stores and from a variety of online websites so if you shop around, you may find it for cheaper.
This product feels really luxurious on the skin and you can tell that it is a very high quality product. As you smooth it onto your face, it feels like silk and glides effortlessly onto the skin without any dragging or pulling. As you massage it into the skin, it doesn't make a lather but it still feels good.
The texture of the product is completely smooth and you can't feel any exfoliating particles whatsoever so it is really gentle. It feels completely comfortable on the skin and doesn't itch or irritate my sensitive skin. The facial wash itself is a creamy white colour that is almost clear. It smells completely delicious and although the aroma is faint, it does smell sweet and fruity.
It takes a while to get all the product off your skin and it doesn't wash away as simply as other facial washes that I've used. The consistency is quite slimy which is why I use a flannel as well as rinsing my face to make sure that it's all off. If you don't get it all off, it can feel uncomfortable on the skin and make it flaky in patches.
Even after the very first use, my skin felt as soft as silk and incredibly smooth considering that I couldn't feel any exfoliation happening. My skin does feel uncomfortabley tight afterwards but this feeling subsides completely once I have used a moisturiser. It also does dry out little patches of my skin a bit so I do wonder if this would be too dry for some skin types but then it does specify that it is suitable for all skin types.
It leaves my skin squeaky clean and removes all traces of my make up. Obviously as you can't use the product on the eye area, you need to use a separate cleanser to remove eye make up. It removes all of the horrible excess oils from my face which helps to keep my face matte for longer. My complexion looks brighter and more radiant and this product has helped to keep my skin clear of blemishes and imperfections.
All in all, this is a lovely gentle facial wash that leaves my skin completely soft and smooth. It keeps blemishes away and makes my complexion look clear and healthier. It smells gorgeous and feels silky on the skin. It makes you feel the need to apply moisturiser afterwards and this may be too drying for some skins but as I use a moisturiser every day anyway, this isn't an inconvenience for me. Depsite this being a pricey product, it produces really good results.
I bought this cleanser as part of a Elemis' resurfacing kit. As I have a tendency to break out, I like my face feeling squeaky clean and I am slightly obsessed with scrubs and peels in my quest to keep wrinkles at bay.
The cleanser came in a typical Elemis bottle, minimal packaging that would sit well in any bathroom. The cleanser is a lotion form and you squeeze a little out before rubbing into damp skin. The lotion felt very luxurious to put on the right level of thickness so you could feel that it was there but there wasn't so much of it you wondered if you would ever get it off. Removing it was with a damp facecloth followed by a rinse.
I was not disappointed in the way my skin felt afterwards, it felt tingly clean and looked clear and refreshed. It also felt smooth. The product is too strong for eyes so don't be tempted to rub a little across your eyelashes as a mascara remover.
As I have sensitive skin, I found that using this product every day was too harsh and my skin felt more sensitive than usual after about a week, especially if you combine it with the tri enzyme face mask. To combat this, just use it every other day or on days when your skin feels like it needs a good clean and not on the days when you also want to use a scrub (although really you shouldn't need to with this cleanser) or a mask.
I didn't notice any increase in breakouts, my fine lines seemed a little finer and overall I was very happy with my appearance when using this product.
I would definitely buy this again but due to the price, I would wait until there were offers or when it came as part of a multi pack so it is better value for money.
This is by far one of the best facial washes I have ever used. I am 18 years old and my skin is constantly changing from sometimes oily to normal to normal/dry, and this product just helps so much. It leaves my skin feeling refreshed and clean and it is quite silky when applying. It also smells decent.
I usually use Elemis products since my mum is a huge fan of Elemis, and whilst the prices of the products are not exactly cheap, I think for the quality and results from using the products, especially this, it is worth a bit of a hole in your pocket.
The product is easy to use and after use, leaves no residue. I have never had rashes or come out in red blotches after using, or had irritated skin which I have had when using other products.
The product also lasts a long while since not much is needed when applying, only a pea size amount.
I would definitely recommend this product. It is refreshing, silky, and leaves skin feeling brighter and cleaner. People often compliment on my skin and this is because of Elemis products. Definitely worth buying!
I've been using this facial wash for around 12 months now and I've just started my third bottle.
The only reason I first purchased this was because I had a discount voucher to use on a website called www.timetospa.co.uk. This sells all things Elemis and has discounts and free gifts if you spend over a certain amount... but I digress... on this site it costs £27.00 which I believe is the retail price aswell. You can get it cheaper on ebay for around £14.00 but I'll admit I'm a bit suspicious as its so much cheaper!
However I've only just started my third bottle so essentially facial wash for a year has cost me £54.00...but its obviously a personal decision if you want to spend that much on facial wash each year...!
It comes in a white plastic bottle as shown in the picture and this has a pump on it which you need to turn several times to get it to work when you first use it. I did struggle with this and ended up turning it in several directions until it popped up ready for use.
The consistency of the facial wash isn't too thick and actually quite light... it does state resurfacing but it is a very smooth liquid... it doesn't have any 'bits' in it which the name may suggest (and I first thought).
However after using this only after the first week I could see the difference in my skin as this appeared more clearer so it does seem to do what it says!
It does suggest that you use with the tri enzyme serum but I don't and I'm happy with the results without it... it also states to use an SPF30 during the day which I don't believe my foundation has in it so again something else I don't do
The only thing I find with the pump is that if I use it in the morning. when I come to use it in the evening the pump does get a bit gunked up and there will be hard bit of the facial wash in the end which does come out when you pump..
I have been using Elemis products for some time now and am totally in love with them! One of my favorites is the Elemis tri-enzyme resurfacing facial wash.
Elemis is a high quality brand with equally high price tags-you have been warned! Tri-enzyme resurfacing facial wash comes in a classy silver box. Inside is a plastic pump action bottle containing 200ml of this amazing wash. The wash is designed to remove dead skin cells from your face and encourage natural cell renewal .It contains Galactoarbinian polysaccharide from the larch tree to help the exfoliation process. It also contains Brazilian Babassu oil that is rich in fatty acids to help moisturise your skin and the powerful anti-oxidant properties of Moringa to help protect your skin against environmental damage. It also contains white truffle and poia cocos said to help sooth and support the skins natural micro flora. I have to admit I have never heard of most of these ingredients and when I first read the claims on the box I was unconvinced!
The box contains an instruction leaflet telling you how to use this face wash. It advises that the wash should be used twice a day. However I only use this every other day and then only once, as it is expensive I can't afford to replace it too quickly! The wash is used in place of soap and in the same way. Wet your face with warm water and then massage a pea sized amount of the facial wash into your skin avoiding the delicate eye area. When I first used this wash I was expecting lather as with other facial washes. However it doesn't produce any lather. The wash feels very silky and is lovely to use. It rinses off easily and leaves my face feeling very soft and smooth. There is a slight scent that I would describe as sweet and clean if that makes sense.
I love this facial wash and although I have sensitive dry skin it doesn't irritate or cause any dryness. I like using facial washes instead of cleansing creams on my face as they leave my face feeling clean and fresh as opposed to oily and clogged. I have been using the wash for about 6 months now and can really see a difference in my complexion. In the winter my skin tends to look dull and a bit washed out. However since using the wash my skin appeals brighter and more radiant. I used to suffer from red patches around my forehead but these are now a thing of the past.
Elemis recommend that you use their Tri-enzyme serum after washing and then to use a high factor sun cream. This is because the facial wash gets rid of dead skin cells and exposes new skin cells that need extra protection. I use L'Oreal sun cream designed to be used on your face and find this works well. In the winter I find my foundation with a factor 15 sun protection is enough.
This facial wash is not cheap selling at around £27.00 for a 200ml bottle. However it does last for ages and really works, so I think it's worth every penny!
I purchased this product as part of a trial size set. I used it in conjuction with the Try-Enzyme Night Cream and Serum. This product is not intended as a cleanser, so you will need to clease seperately. It is best to start you regime with this product to remove surface dirt, open your pores and re-texture your skin. then deep cleanse in order to remove dirt that is deep with your pores.
I found that I only needed a small amount in order to wash my whole face, around 20p size. After using it religiously for around a week with the other products, I found that I had reduced pore size, clearly complexion and more luminosity. My skin felt clean, fresh and light to the touch. I tend to suffer with sensitive skin around the cheek area, this wash did not aggravate it. I also suffer from a greasy t-zone and this was great for tackling that. My travel size bottles last about 10 weeks.
I have been using Elemis Tri-enzyme resurfacing wash for almost two months now. My intial reaction was that the pump dispenser on the bottle is ideal as it prevents mess and contamination, it also allows the correct amount to be dispensed so no product gets wasted.
The first thing that I noticed after dispensing it into my palm was a really nice fragrance that is pleasant but not at all overpowering it also foams really well with water which allows it to move easily over the skin and feel that it is really cleansing.
After cleansing I have noticed a real difference as my skin feels a lot softer as it would following exfoliation. The only slight negative is that although my skin feels softer sometimes it can feel a bit dry/tight but this is easily rectified with moisturiser!
Another slightly negative comment is that although my skin feels a lot smoother I don't feel that the appearance has changed as much as I would have expected but that could be because I have not been using it that long or maybe I have very high expectations!
This is the best facial cleanser I have ever tried - and I've tried quite a few over the years! I came across the product whilst staying at Center Parcs, Sherwood Forest and treated myself to a spa treatment. I've been using it now for just over a year and still very pleased with the results. In my opinion you often find that using the same product over a period of time your skin seems to get used to it and it doesn't seem as effective anymore - not so in this case.
Even though it may seem expensive the 200ml pump bottle lasts me almost 12 months and I use it just about every day. A single pump of the bottle, about the size of a five pence piece is sufficient for effective cleansing.
Other reviewers have written about how it works and what it's meant to achieve so I won't go into all those details again. More importantly is that within the first week my skin appeared smoother, brighter and previously blocked pores cleared. I much prefer products like this that are rinsed off with water, without water I just don't feel 'clean'. Personally I rinse twice after using it.
The beautician that did all my pampering suggesting having a day or two off from using the product every 2 to 3 weeks but I haven't had a problem using it every day. If you have slightly sensitive skin I would suggest following her advice and, of course, avoid the delicate skin around your eyes.
I first bought the product at the spa where I had my treatment but I've also purchased it from the Elemis, Time to Spa website (they sometimes send you some free samples with your order).
If you decide to give it a try I hope you are as satisfied with it as I am.
Tri Enzyme resurfacing facial wash is part of the Elemis Anti Ageing, Skin Resurfacing range. Lets start by explaining that Elemis is a fabulous salon brand that has spas on cruise liners, British Airways as well as in various 4 and 5 star hotels worldwide. You can only buy Elemis products usually from the salon itself or from the more upmarket department stores like Harvey Nichols, John Lewis, and a small selection of Debenhams. Alternatively you can purchase products on QVC, so keep an eye out when they do a slot as the discounts are amazing!
I have worked with Elemis for many years in the past before having my daugher and there are certain products that have stood the test of time. This is most certainly one of them, I can honestly say I would be lost with out this cleanser. It is sold in a 200ml bottle with a pump to control how much you use, if you have used salon brands before you should know that you only need the smallest amount as it is more concentrated than your high street brands. You honestly only need 2 small pumps of this each time you use it, and you use day and night, on average a bottle of this lasts me around 2 months, no lie! It is purchased at the standard price of £25, you are unlikely to find this any cheaper or if you do the difference will be minimal, except perhaps QVC when they feature it. So I figure an excellent product, costing £25 and lasting for 2 months absolutely worth paying.
So what does this product claim to do, well I will refer to the back of the bottle and let them tell you.
This daily face wash stimulates the skins natural cells renewal cycle, actively smoothing and refining whilst sloughing away dead skin cells which dull the complexion
Revolutionary patent pending Tri-Enzyme technology acts as the catalyst in this innovative formulation for safe and effective resurfacing within the upper layers of the skin. Galactoarabinan, a polysaccharide from the Larch Tree enhances the non-abrasive exfoliation process, whilst Brazilian Babassu Oil, rich in Fatty Acids replenishes moisture levels in the epidermis. The powerful anti-oxidant properties of Moringa help to protect the skin against environmental damage; whilst White Truffle, Poria Coco's helps soothe and support the natural micro flora of the skin. Skin appears smooth and radiant, preparing skin for maximum efficacy of your resurfacing programme.
Understand any of that?? If you're a bit confused basically it's a cleanser that works as an exfoliator also in the gentlest of ways, so every time you are using this you are removing the dead skin cells that can make your skin appear dull. Basically brightening your complexion, and if you are in the process of having the full treatments at a salon then its essential so that you can get the best results. I hope that was simpler to understand!
So as I mentioned before you use day and night, I only use 2 pumps each time, but please make sure you avoid the eye area, the skin is too fine for this product in that area. When you have your 2 pumps in your hands take a little water into your palm and rub to create a small lather. Your face can be dry as long as you produce a foam, the product wont work correctly unless you use it this way. I always remove make up before using this as I don't like to waste the product and you get the best results then also. DO NOT USE SUNBEDS OR SUNBATHING whilst you are using this product, it makes your skin very vulnerable to sunlight due to the constant exfoliation. Ive warned you, take it from me its not pleasant and not an attractive sight I can assure you, yes I thought it would be ok too (its not). I use the daily moisturisers containing a tanning agent occasionally, the cleasner is good to use before that as it makes sure you get an even application and therefore no darker patches.
Skin Types: It suit's the majority of skin types even the most severe acne, however I would defiantly avoid if you have hyper sensitive or have areas of rosacea. Its too stimulating on these skins.
It is Anti Ageing but really only when it is used as part of a programme so I wouldn't buy it on that account.
Each pump deposit's a pea size amount onto your hand. Its creamy coloured, almost a gel, almost a cream, its somewhere between the two but once mixed with a little water creates a light foam. Now my only negative comment about this product that is that it doesn't smell great, in fact I would say it smelt quite chemically. I can however assure you 100% that this is not the case, Elemis produce products that are as natural as they can possibly be, if they cant do that, then they don't produce it, its that simple. Only plant extracts, fruit enzymes and aromatherapy oils are used in any of their products and they use the first extraction of each so you know you are getting a powerful dose. I suspect the smell is due to the Tri-Enzyme formula, however I cannot tell you those ingredients as they have not yet been disclosed due to the patent pending.
You may sense a tingling sensation as you work the foam into your skin, don't panic, unless its causing discomfort its just doing its stuff and if it's the first time you have used this, you may notice it more as you have more dead skin to work on. Personally I like to leave it on my skin a couple of minutes after I have worked it in for extra exfoliating, then rinse with lukewarm water. Now if you are using other Elemis products and creating a home facial this is where you would apply your other products, but if you are using this alone, then your ready to pop your moisturiser on straightaway after. I find as my skin is on the dry side it can feel a little tight after, before I use my moisturiser, so if you do have dry skin do expect that. You will see results within 24 hours of use for definite, sometimes even after the first use you can tell a difference. I have been using it for a long while now and I have got used to having super soft skin on my face and a healthy glow, but I have forgotten to take this away for a weekend with me before and my skin is not that same at all. I was itching to get home and use it, it didn't feel as smooth or as clean and I didn't have the same radiance. It really is that fantastic, you may even find you wear less foundation as I do now, as I felt that I looked healthy and glowing enough without it.
I rate this product so highly as its so brilliant in every way, I think for the amount of time it lasts the price is fair and for the results is well worth it. You haven't got to worry about using too much or too little as its all measured out for you. Your skin will feel softer and smoother and you will feel more confident about your skin. Plus you know that there is nothing harmful in there!
I love Elemis !! I do love salon brands in general, but Elemis is a home-grown brand which mixes science and nature with wonderful results and has grown and grown as a respected salon range in the industry. For those who love to exfoliate but find granular products too harsh or glycolic acid based products too extreme, this product may be what you're looking for. The whole tri enzyme range is based on a very gentle form of exfoliation and those who have loved the papaya enzyme product from Elemis will probaby also love this one.
This product is for part of the cleansing routine. Notice that I say 'part'. You must cleanse and tone prior to using this product because it won't remove make-up/dirt effectively, but it will help reveal clearer, brighter skin when you allow the ingredients to work on a cleansed and toned skin ( i.e ph balanced skin ) It smells wonderful and your skin feels smoother and clearer afterwards, but that's just the start for this regime.
Remember that this product is for brightening and clearing away of dead skin cells, not to cleanse and tone. If you're a basic skin care user and don't want the hassle of double cleansing then this product is NOT for you and you may want to try the papaya enzyme peel as your way of helping with exfoliation issues. However, this is a daily product and can be used with or without the rest of the regime if you wish, but using all products in tandem will give even more results. But is a great way to introduce yourself to the rest of the tri-enzyme family.
Because of the way that this product works, in such a gentle, non-abrasive way, it can be used daily on ALL skin types. Sensitive skins who usually shy away from exfoliating products will LOVE this product and oilier skins will love the way it can be used daily without over-stimulating oil glands. And any one with skin inbetween those extremes will love the results too.
Skin type: All
How it works: Natural enzymes gently shed dead cells thus stimulating the skin's natural cell renewal cycle.
Elemis is a luxurious skincare brand that also operates spas around Britain. They are using the latest technological advances in anti-aging skincare combining it with natural active ingredients. I've started using their £45 Booster Facial that consists of a half-hour skin analysis and consultation followed by of a half-hour facial treatment. (I've never actually paid £45 for a session but either £30 or £35 as there was always some kind of promotion running when I booked).
As most Elemis products it comes in a simple but elegant white packaging that has the silver embossed logo and product name written on it. The bottle itself is slightly transparent white plastic and has a plastic pump lid. The bottle is recyclable (it means you can screw off the pump and fill it up with something else after you've finished it).
Since the age of 24 I've been struggling with eczema and rosaceous complexion due to an apparently very common allergy to some extent to nickel and a very high sensitivity to chrome. These heavy elements are essential for our body but only in traces and an overreaction can occur in the immune system when an excess of the substance accumulates and starts poisoning the body.
Chrome can be found in practically everything we come into contact with in our modern everyday lives: detergent, bleach, washing liquid, processed food, flour, leather, paint, makeup, stainless steel, cement, dyed fabrics, hair dye and cosmetics just to mention a few.
My allergy to chrome banned me from using soap at home, the liquid hand wash at public places or at work. As a substitute I make my own hand wash liquid and otherwise carry some home-made hand wipes with me (these are cotton wool pads that I impregnate with natural Aloe Vera gel). Naturally, I wasn't able to
wear any makeup either.
The Elemis Facial
The abstinence form the irritants did work but after having eliminated the toxins (most of them were caused by soap and makeup) and my skin calmed down, I noticed that I wasn't getting any further improvement in my looks.
I was scared that I haven't been looking after my now 'very sensitive' skin properly and I'll pay the price later when its natural deterioration sets in after the age of 30.
I booked my first Elemis Booster Facial treatment in Debenhams last July. The skin on my face was analysed and a page was printed off where I could see 6 photos of my face each focusing on a particular feature such as wrinkles, pores, bacteria or UV exposure. (They always stress that this is the actual momentary glimpse of the face and not a fixed state.)
However they do pinpoint to the consistent weaknesses and symptoms that you're skin might be suffering from: the most common of these are: dehydration that cause wrinkles, bacteria around the nose and the chin, dilated pores and skin cells damaged by UV rays.
After your skin analysis comes the consultation which is basically a product demonstration where they will try to sell you all the products designed to help with your specific skin problems. OK, just joking, they do ask lots of questions about your complete beauty regime at home including lifestyle and what products you're currently using and how often.
Combination skin type
I have combined skin which means black spots (oxidised pores full of bacteria) and greasy areas are centred on and around my nose and chin but the rest of the face tend to be dry and in sometimes even very dry and red patched especially on the cheeks.
The blackheads are pretty hard to get rid of given the limitations of what anti-bacterial products and hydrating (?) facial cleansers I can use that won't cause an allergic reaction but will eliminate bacteria.
Facial cleansers for problematic skin
To address the problem with the infected blackhead areas I bought one each of the basically two main types of face cleansers on the market and I had started using alternately in my weekly regime. One of them was L'Oreal Pure Zone Deep Exfoliating Gel Wash, the other Neutrogena Visibly Clear Blackhead Eliminating Scrub.
L'Oreal Pure Zone Deep Exfoliating Gel Wash contains soap - which does kill bacteria but makes my skin very dry and flare up
Neutrogena Visibly Clear Blackhead Eliminating Scrub is a grainy scrub - this did not dry my skin or cause irritations but I haven't noticed a any reduction in bacteria around the affected areas.
I had been using these alternatively over the course of approximately 6 months.
Since July Elemis and I were first concentrating on eliminating rosacea from my face which we manage to reduce from a medium - severe to a practically mild-ish state, the photos still showed extensive black spot areas on my nose and chin, the most bacteria infected areas. So last December, on my fourth facial, I asked if they had a daily cleanser that was capable of doing all the important things I needed which were to be:
The answer was yes! With the added bonus of being anti-aging!
The anti-aging factor comes from these three enzymes:
- Subtilisine breaks down dead skin cells.
- Protease stimulates the skin to make new cells. When we're young our body does it naturally without telling it, but with age the renewal slows down which results in aging skin.
- Papain is derived from Papaya and breaks down proteins into smaller molecules (the blobs that make your skin bumpy and uneven)
The Tri-Enzyme Facial Wash
This product is best used in place of soap (never use soap on your face to start with). To open the pores, gently dab your skin with warm water. Place a pea sized amount of product into your palm. Gently massage into the skin avoiding the eye area (it does sting the eye, but only mildly). The wash does not lather, it's rather silky and smooth, almost warm. It washes away easily. It's not a cream, so it doesn't feel oily at all.
Rinse with warm water then with a splash of cold. The cold water will close the pores. It is recommended to follow with Tri-Enzyme Resurfacing Serum and at least 30 SPF sun block cream.
Aftercare: * Very Important *
By removing a layer of dead skin cells of your skin, your new, young cells are exposed on the surface. You don't want pollution, UV rays and other environmental hazards damage these young cells straight away. That's why Elemis recommends with Tri-Enzyme Resurfacing Serum and at least 30 SPF sun block cream. This is all written in the packaging and bottle. I'm personally using L'Oreal Solar Expertise Active Anti-Wrinkle & Anti-brown Spot SPF 50 which I had at home already.
The neck is another area that dehydrates most with age and where the first wrinkles appear even before the first wrinkles on your face. So the neck and décolleté area needs the exact same treatment as the face.
I am now using Elemis to cleanse my neck in the morning and evening. I haven't actually increased the amount of product I apply to face and neck as I realised I've used too much on my face to start with. For face and neck area I still only need a pea sized amount.
This is the first product ever that makes my face feels 'squeaky clean' just like your hair when you washed it with a shampoo it really loves. A product that removes grease, but does leave the natural oil layers on. It was the same silky touch to my face when I touched it after rinsing and gently dabbing with a towel. It was cleansed, taut but elastic, smooth and dirt free with a gentle natural layer on. I could immediately tell that my skin was free of dead cells as its colour changed from a light beige to an almost translucent pink. I'll try to post pictures next time around!
I haven only been using Elemis for a month as my next facial isn't due until the beginning of February. I can already feel the difference in not having to fear another flare-up or red-patches because of the other cleansers due to soapy or abrasive agents in them. I'll update the review when I get my results from my next facial.
How long does a bottle last?
Applying it twice daily I've used about 20 ml of the product in a month. It contains 200 ml so it should last until 10 month. The product says its shelf life is 6 months which is due to the active ingredients which deteriorate quickly. In that case it should be sold in a smaller size or kept in the fridge. I'll ask about this at my next appointment.
I heartily recommend this product. Elemis is an example of skincare that is a must in the 21st century. Unfortunately most giant brands have not realised this and their harsh products continue doing damage to our more and more sensitive skins.
Thanks for reading my review.
