I have been a big fan of SBC's gels for around 2 years now and have slowly used more and more from their range. I like to use their gels because they sink into the skin well and come in pump pots which makes using them quick and easy and really helps to measure out the right amount you want to use. I also like to buy the gels because most of them come in very large, salon sizes and offer very good value for money. Having tried a lot of the gels and having been a big fan of the arnica gel for a problem I have with my back, I heard on a tv shopping show featuring SBC gels that the detox gel is great when mixed with arnica, so I gave it a try. When it arrived it looks the most disgusting colour in the bottle and the smell isn't the nicest but I tried very hard not to let put me off of using it. I used it in conjunction with my arnica gel for about 3 weeks and I really didn't notice any difference at all, which was very disapppointing. I also found it a bit of a strange gel because I was never really sure exactley what it ws meant to do, which sounds odd I know, but it should come with some hints and information as it doesnt really explain it on the label. Perhaps it was just me but I didn't bother to re-purchase this because even after using the bottle to the end, I never saw a result, nor did i notice anby difference in my skin after i stopped using it.
I've mentioned before in reviews that I buy quite a bit of stuff from QVC and one of my latest purchases was a selection of SBC gels. SBC (which stands for Simply Beautiful Cosmetics) are a brand I had never heard of before seeing them on QVC, and a brand I have not seen advertised or for sale anywhere else. They make a range of different bath products and gels, all with different properties and functions, and the one I'm reviewing now is the Detox gel. So, what does it do? Well, on the bottle it states that the combination of Neptune Kelp, White Nettle, coffee and grape seed extract will leave the skin looking and feeling healthy if combined with regular diet and exercise. I think it's basically supposed to detox your skin and although it doesn't say it anywhere on the bottle (probably for legal reasons) the fact they say to use it in combination with diet and exercise, suggests to me that they're hinting it will help aid weight loss. In fact, looking on website www.sbcgels.co.uk it suggests it will firm and tone, and even the bottle advises using in conjunction with the SBC Body firming gel. I must admit, this is not a product I would have bought individually. Although in the past I've had mad moments and bought so called, body firming and slimming creams, I think we all know that it takes healthy eating and exercise to lose weight and lotions and creams won't do it for us. As I received this in a set with other products though, and as I was exercising more regularly than usual in preparation for my holiday, I did start to use the gel, as even if I was sceptical as to its claims, I still didn't want it to go to waste! The gel comes in a clear bottle with a white pump and what had always struck me when seeing this brand on QVC was how boring and cheap the packaging looked. I have heard them say that, like Lush, they want to concentrate on spending money on the product itself rather than the bottle it comes in. When I actually received my gels, I did think that close up the bottles don't actually look too bad, and they are made from sturdy plastic and the white plastic pumps are also very sturdy. To use this product, you simply massage it into your body in firm upward strokes, and they recommend using it twice daily. Personally, I only used it on the two areas of my body which I thought needed the most help - my stomach and my thighs! The gel is a not so appealing greenish-brown colour in the bottle, however when applied to the skin it goes on clear. It has quite a strong scent which is predominantly citrussy and sharp, and the overall fragrance is actually quite masculine. Even so, I didn't mind it too much, and as I was only applying to my stomach and legs, I couldn't really smell it when it was on - I think it may have been different had I been applying it to my entire body. The gel is water based and very light. Only a small amount is needed to cover a fairly large area of skin, and it doesn't take a huge amount of rubbing in. As soon as the gel touches the skin it immediately feels incredibly cooling, which was brilliant during the hot weather. Immediately after application I have found that the gel feels quite sticky on the skin, but after around a minute it will have dried/sank in completely and on touching the skin you won't even know you have applied anything, as there is no residue or greasiness there at all. As I mentioned, I was incredibly sceptical when it came to this, and did not expect it to work whatsoever. I must admit, however, I have found myself being pleasantly surprised. Although I don't particularly think I have seen an improvement to the appearance of my skin, I can definitely tell that the feel of it has changed. I first noticed on my stomach which has always been a bit flabby, but the skin is noticeably firmer to the touch. For the first time ever the skin on my stomach felt toned - even if the flesh underneath wasn't! I just want to make clear, I am not saying that I lost weight or anything like that, but the skin on my stomach and thighs where I had been applying the gel felt taughter and just generally a bit more firm. Not only this, but the results were very quick - I would say within about three days of beginning to use the product I had seen a difference. When I came back from my holiday I did stop applying the gel, and unfortunately this is when I found that the results were only temporary as within a couple of days the firm feeling had gone, so this is a product you will have to apply regularly in order to see results. QVC charge £19.50 for a 500ml bottle of this gel. I have found, however, that you can buy smaller sizes from a website called www.beautyexpress.co.uk who charge - £5.50 - 125ml £9.50 - 250ml £27.50 -1000ml Admittedly I have never used this website, so I don't know how reliable they are, but these prices seem a little less harsh on the pocket Overall, I was surprised to find that this was a good product, and it's nice to find a product that does actually firm the skin. If you're looking for a lightweight, non-greasy product that will firm your skin, then I'd recommend giving this one a try.
