In Winter I tend to suffer from dry and cracked hands and when I briefly mentioned this to my Grandmother on the phone she got very concerned (as Grandmothers always do!) and the next time I saw her she gave me this Magnolia hand and body lotion from Marks and Spencer. =The Bottle= The lotion comes in a 250ml bottle with a pump action at the top. The pump is so handy when you just want to grab some lotion before you leave the house as it involves no faffing with a lid or cap. I have noticed a few of problems with the bottle; the rim around the top of the bottle just below the pump really gathers dust - I've never noticed any other products gather dust as much as this one and it gets a bit annoying. The pump is also quite violent and I have, on more than one occasion, pumped too hard and been covered in the lotion. Lastly, a dry crust of lotion can form on the pump if you don't use it every day and you have to get rid of that before you use it. =The Lotion= The lotion is cream in colour and quite a thick consistency - I prefer my lotions to be quite liquid so that I can really rub them in. This one does rub in fine on my hands, but if you were trying to cover a larger area I think you'd have problems. The smell is Magnolia and smells like many of the other products in the M&S Magnolia range. Although part of the 'floral collection' it's not what I would typically describe as floral - it's quite musky. I think this hand cream is probably more suited to the slightly older generation - I like my products to smell quite sweet and fresh. I'm fine using this on my hands, but I would never use it as a body lotion. As for its moisturising effectiveness, it does quite well. It's not the most long-lasting cream I've ever owned but it does the job. My hands do feel like they have a slight residue left on after I've used it which isn't very pleasant, but it's not a huge deal. =Overall= Overall I will give it 3/5 - the bottle is so handy for pumping and it does moisturise my hands, but the smell is not for me personally and it's probably a bit thicker than I would usually want.
I was sorting through my bathroom cabinet, throwing away items which I either no longer used or had been open for too long when I stumbled across this. I can remember it being a gift from Xmas 2008 (seems a life time ago now!) and was all set to bin it until I saw the 24M sign... OK I thought, put it to one side, get it used up and stop wasting things! I wasn't particularly excited about having to use this, even though M&S is a quality brand name, lets face it, the packaging and the 'grandma association' of their fragrance product (infact it was my gran who gave this to me - just to prove the point) wasn't exactly filling me with enthusiasm. The packaging is as the picture shows so I won't bore you describing the pretty petals. The pump action works as good as any and 1 'pump' dispenses just enough for me to moisturise my hands. But as a body lotion it did get a bit frustrating, so inevitably I ran out of patience, unscrewed the top and poured a big dollop onto my palm. It had quite a creamy consistency, comparable to yogurt and was absorbed was absorbed easily by my skin. Its magnolia scent which M&S describe as 'delicately fragranced', I found too over powering and it lingered on my skin for a long time after rubbing it in. It isn't the nicest of fragrances either, it is the sort of smell I associate with old people and an overly fussy garden. I can see how some might like it but for me this was a big no no. The lotion contains shea butter and it is very moisturising, leaving my skin soft and smooth. My skin has had no negative reaction after using this, although then I don't have sensitive skin, but judging by the extensive ingredient list (that covers half the back of the bottle!) some one who does would be wise to check this out. Overall it is a very good moisturiser and at £3 for a 250ml bottle I find it fairly priced too. However the overpowering scent of this would stop me buying it but I would certainly check out the other varieties in the range whilst I am in store, I think there is a rose and a few others. That said I won't recommend this particular product but can vouch for the ranges quality. :)
