My five year old son was bought this incredible hulk game for Christmas, it has turned out to be one of his favorite games of all.
The idea of the game is to take your player through the city without being smashed to smithereens by the incredible hulk.
Before you can start to play the game you need to make up the buildings, these are a made of strong cardboard that need to be folded to make a variety of buildings such as the town hall or sky scraper. This initial set up took us about fifteen minutes, it is quite fiddly and just when I thought I had made a house it fell apart. However once they are correctly put together they are fairly robust and can stay assembled. The buildings are put on the board to make the city.
Now you have to make the playing pieces out of coloured play doh. You can choose from a car, tank, bus or airplane. There are a pack of smash cards that are placed in the middle of the board.
Now you are ready to play, each player takes turns to roll the special hulk die, if it lands on a number you move that amount of spaces but if it lands on the hulk hand you need to pick up a smash card. The smash card will either show a colour or a building, if its a colour you pick up the big hulk hammer and smash all the players who are on that coloured space, even your own. If it is a building then you can choose a building to remove from the board and smash all the players around it.
If your player is smashed, it stays in a squashed splat on the board and you make a new piece and start back at the beginning.
The game is incredibly (get it ?) easy to play, it has a varied time frame depending on what players roll, we have played it when no one gets to smash and finished in ten minutes or so, but then other times it has taken 45 minutes and by the end the board looks like a disaster zone.
My son absolutely loves it, his favourite bit of course is the smashing and re making of the pieces. My ten year old daughter, although she hates to admit liking an incredible hulk game also really enjoys playing it.
I think the enjoyment of the game does depend on the type of child though, we had some of my sons friends around and they were playing it, a couple of them were crying every time their piece got smashed, also you could be one space from the end and still get walloped by the hulk.
I think the only bad bit of this game is that in under a month the play doh already has started to dry out a bit, however this can be easily and inexpensively replaced so not a major problem.
You can get the game for £8.38 on Amazon, I would say this is a bargain and is much more loved and played with than some of the more expensive games he got for Christmas.
It is suitable for ages 5+ and is for 2-4 players.
This game is really good for boys and girls who love to squish and bash things!!
It takes quite a lot of time setting this game up initially but once it is done, its done. It mainly involved folding up the cardboard buildings into shape. Then you make your counters with the playdoh and mould. The kids seem to love doing this, though I found it a bit boring, but then it was bought for them.
Gameplay starts by rolling a dice and you move your counters round the board, if your dice rolls on a green hulk fist you pick up a card. This card may have a colour on it or a HULK SMASH FIST,either way its likely some playdoh car squishing is gonna happen!
The player who rolled that then gets to splat any corresponding playdoh cars on that coloured tile!
This game is good fun for kids who can take winning and losing easy. Not for kids who are very competitive....you can easily get near to the end and then BLAMMM You are a gonner!
The buildings take up a lot of room in the box and they have eventually gotten torn and squashed as time has gone on (They arent so important), also the playdoh dries up (but thats easy replaced). On the main it is quite a good game and my kids have enjoyed playing it.
Mould your Play-Doh vehicles, roll the dice and you may get to splat your opponents vehicles with Hulk's big green fist!
