I bought this Blu-ray player for £69 online. As with all electrical goods make sure you shop around for the best price possible. I haven't researched prices that much but have seen it available for £60 online. You will also need to purchase a HDMI cable to connect to your TV but you can get cheap ones for less than a couple of pounds.
I have never been too interested in Blu-ray until somebody bought me a Blu-ray film as a present. Not the best idea as I didn't have a Blu-ray player! Because of this I decided to get a basic and cheap standard one. I have bought Samsung products before and have always been very happy with them so I thought I would stick with them. If you want there are other cheaper ones available but I like to stick with manufacturers I am comfortable with.
This Blu-ray player is very easy to install and get working. Its size and weight mean it easily slots in on a shelf below your TV or on a TV stand. At just over a 1kg it will sit on even the smallest of shelves. It doesn't come with a HDMI cable so you will have to make sure you have one before you can use it. As well as playing Blu-ray and DVDs you can also connect to the Internet and watch YouTube. It doesn't however have access to other Samsung Apps such as iPlayer or Love Film which is a bit disappointing. It is not as easy as using YouTube on your PC but is a useful little distraction. However you do have to wire it into your router which could be more of a hassle than it's worth just for YouTube. There is also a USB port so you can play video files however there can sometimes be a bit of a sound problem with the syncing not quite right. You can also connect a external hard drive which contains movies or photos to view on your TV. You can also use the Blu-ray player to play CDs and listen to your music through your TV speakers. It also has a function called AllShare. Using this you can wirelessly sync your PC and Samsung mobile phone with the Blu-ray player.
The picture quality is very good. When you have only used DVDs before you will notice the extra quality that you get from Blu-ray. I have still not completely bought into Blu-rays yet though due to the extra costs of them. However this does have DVD upscaling which means the quality of normal DVDs are improved. Even if you don't watch Blu-rays this is probably worth it just for the improvement on DVDs. The sound quality is also of a good standard even when it is just played through your normal TV speakers.
The size of the player is smaller than I expected, easily fitting on my shelf below the TV. However it is quite noisy but you do get used to it quite quickly. This is a basic but reasonably priced Blu-ray player. If you are just getting in to Blu-ray discs then it is a good place to start without spending loads of money. It will also improve your DVD quality as well. I am very happy with this product and would definitely recommend it.
