Braun MR400 Blender As with many blenders, this comes in two parts, which separate with twist. The top half has the on/off button, the bottom half has the blades. When they are connected together there is a clear click, and there is no danger of them accidentally coming apart in mid-blend. The whole thing is about 15" tall, and is easy to store in the box it came in. The lead, which comes out of the top, is a decent length, about 1m long, so will generally stretch to be usable in a pan on the cooker, for example (obviously depending on the layout of your kitchen!). This blender only has one speed, and you have to keep the button pushed in to keep the motor going. This has the advantage that you naturally release it when you lift the blender out of the mixture, so there is less chance of accidental splatter. It also means that if you are blending a chunky soup, for example, you can lift it up and down and quickly deal with different areas in a pan with an easy action. The blades are encased in a plastic cage, with holes so that food can easily move around. The desisn means that you can confidently place the business end of the blender onto the bottom of a saucepan with no possibility that the blades will touch it. The motor is of medium power, 300Watts. We mainly use it for blending soups, for example cooked vegetables, and tomato sauce for pizzas and pasta. It works fine for this purpose, but I wouldn't suggest trying it on anything harder such as raw vegetables as I don't think it would cope (though I haven't tried this to find out). It also works well for mushing up fruit for a smoothie, or to put into icecream or something similar. Occasionally it will make heavy weather of a chunk of vegetable, so it's best to make sure these are chopped up and cooked reasonably well. It comes with a plastic container you can use to blend things in, but it works just as well with any other vessel wide enough to accommodate it (about 2" wide). According to the instructions you can clean the blade half in the dishwasher, but for some reason I never do, probably because I never noticed that until coming to write this review! There are instructions in 8 or 9 languages, though you scarcely need any as it is fairly obvious what to do. Overall, a good blender for light duties, easy to handle and clean.
This blender by Braun is very handy for making quick smoothies and blending soups or other 'soft' products. That is what I purchased it for and it has never let me down. I bought a blender by Braun because I trust their quality and friends of mine have bought cheap non branded blenders before which often broke. So spending a bit extra is worth it for the quality. It comes with a handy beaker with measurements marked on the side if you need them. I often just chop up fruit into the beaker, add some juice and blend away. Instant smoothie. It has only one speed setting but that's all it needs really. If you are thinking you might also want to make ice cream blended drinks, add ice cubes or chop harder things like nuts I would not recommend this product. The blades are simply not strong enough for that. You might want to look at investing in a multi attachment blender instead then. This blender stores away very easily and the blender attachment comes off quickly and I just rinse it straight after using it. No need to even touch the blades, just rinse and dry. Overall, it's quick to attach the 2 parts together, plug in and go. Then detach, rinse and dry.
I bought this blender with the great idea of making my husband smoothies before he goes to work in the morning(got to be cheaper than buying one every morning right?). It is a great little size and the beaker it comes with is a great size for measuring out the amounts you want. Fill it halfway-there's no measurements on it-and you have a decent sized glass full. The holder detaches so you only have to wash the bottom half which contains the blade. The blade is set inside the holder slightly so you need to be careful when washing it but i just normally use a sponge to clean it and its fine. The button to start it is soft but you do have to keep it pressed in for the entire time you are blending. There is a wall holder that comes with it but i have never used it as the blender is only small. The plug lead is quite short so you will need to make sure that you are working near a plug otherwise it will not reach. I only use mine to blend fruit and it only takes seconds, however, i don't think it would work too well with raw vegetables. Overall, not the best blender money could buy but certainly ideal if just using it for a few minutes a day.
