I am a member of the Lush International Forum (which can be accessed from the website: it is free to join but you have to register to view posts) and often, special limited edition products are produced exclusively for forumites. Often these products have the same scent as a popular Lush product, but in a different format. The malty lavender scent of the Twilight ballistic is very popular, and a shower gel with the same scent was produced at one of the forum parties. Sadly, this was just before I joined, so I missed out on the chance to get some. I was thrilled, therefore, when I found out that the shower gel was being released as a 2012 Christmas special. I resolved to get some and I actually bought a 500g bottle, which I never do - I normally stick to the 100g bottles but I love the Twilight scent so much that I wanted to stock up. Prices for the shower gel are as follows: 100g - £4.25 250g - £8.50 500g - £14.95 Lush shower gels are not cheap, but you are paying for quality. The larger bottles are more cost-effective, but the smaller ones are ideal for trying a product or for travel. The shower gel is a beautiful rich deep purple colour, with tiny sparkles visible through the clear plastic bottle (don't worry though, they don't show up on the skin!). The effect is that of the night sky, which fits in with the theme of the product. The original ballistic was inspired by the Twilight series of books and films, and the shower gel continues the night-time theme. Twilight is suitable for vegans and is made with lavender, tonka, ylang ylang and benzoin, which help to create the wonderful fragrance of lavender and malt. Lavender is well known as a soothing, calming scent while malt adds a comforting sweet note, reminding me of Ovaltine or Horlicks. Combined, they create a wonderful scent to help you sleep. The product contains the foaming agent sodium laureth sulfate, which helps the shower gel to lather. It is found in the majority of foaming products such as shower gels, but it can cause skin irritation in some people so it's worth being aware of it. I normally shower in the morning and bathe in the evening, so I save this shower gel for those occasions when I want to wash and relax before bed but haven't the time or the inclination to run a bath. I find that Twilight lathers up very well on a shower puff and only a small amount is needed, making it better value for money than the prices suggest. It is quite runny so I recommend being careful when you pour it out. The delicious malty lavender smell wafts around the whole bathroom and is lovely and relaxing. The gel cleanses well and doesn't irritate my skin. I still need to use body lotion afterwards, but not too much. I feel calm and soothed afterwards, and find it much easier to rest and wind down from the day. I can't think of any bad things to say about this product. It smells amazing and looks beautiful. I can't think of any other shower gel with a scent like this: lavender, yes, but lavender and malt? Highly recommended.
Lush Twilight Shower gel You haven't heard of Lush? I cannot imagine that anyone reading this has not heard of the lovely cosmetic/toiletry company called 'Lush' that started way back in the 80s as 'Cosmetics to go' in Poole, Dorset. They make the most wonderful smelling and exciting things for pampering and they are very keen to support Fair Trade and eco ingredients. All their products are free from nasty additives and not tested on animals. Lush state: "We believe in making effective products out of fresh fruit and vegetables, the finest essential oils and safe synthetics, without animal ingredients, and in writing the quantitative ingredient list on the outside. We also believe in buying only from companies that test for safety without the involvement of animals and in testing our products on humans" I was in Glasgow on our mini break up in Scotland and I passed two Lush shops. I just had to go in both to see what they were like. I decided that as I had not ever tried this shower gel that I would buy this while also asking for a couple of samples to enjoy while on our mini break. After my usual trying of as many products as I can while I was in the shop I grabbed my Twilight gel and while I was chatting to the lovely assistant and she gave me a couple of other samples. I love samples and was chuffed to bits to walk out with my little cache. Twilight This is the product description on the website for "Twilight" Shower gel: "Because we are all made of stars A lavender and malt notes shower gel to calm, relax and comfort as it helps you transition from day to night. Do you want to look up at the night sky and remember that you are part of it? Then Twilight will help you connect. For a good night's sleep, use this before bed." This new shower gel is made the The Twilight scent is available in a couple of products, the shower gel and the bath ballistic but neither of the products is available all year around so if you like it then grab them when you see them. If you like Twilight then try these other products as they have similar smells, French Kiss bubble bar, Dreamtime Luxury bath melt and Cocktail perfume. The Twilight Gel comes in three sizes with prices of 100ml = £4.25, 250ml = £8.50, 500ml = £14.95. So in no way is this a cheap gel but you really do only need a tiny amount to get a reasonable lather. The bottles have the usual 'packed by' sticker on it and a use by date but I don't get too worried by these days as I am not eating it after all. It comes in the standard Lush bottle with a flip top lid - at present these are not recyclable through Lush which their tubs are but hopefully they will do this in future. The bottles are of course recyclable but you don't get anything for them from Lush so just recycle through your normal plastic scheme. What is it like? The gel looks a deep dark purple colour, a bit like daddy Oh shampoo in colour but it smells quite different. The actual gel is quite thick - a bit like many other quality shower gels. I squeezed our about 5c piece sized blob onto my hand and that amount was enough for one half of my upper body so you really need only the smallest amount to get a really good smooth lather. I like to let it soak in for a while before rinsing so that I can enjoy the lovely lavender smell. This is a very true lavender scent but with a interesting toffee sort of smell mixed with it in my opinion. I think it must be the tonka and benzoin that give it that creamy caramel hint behind the lavender. The thing I like about Lush lavender scented products is that they smell of real lavender because they use lavender essential oils. They do not smell synthetic at all and not at all old lady lavender like. I really love the smell of this Twilight and it will certainly be one that I would buy again. Lush say: "The period between sundown and nightfall is often called the blue hour, because of its distinctive ambient light. Our blue purple shower gel tries to capture this, with a twinkling of stars added too. This fragrance, from our Twilight Ballistic, is so popular that our Customer Forum members frequently vote for it to go in special products. This limited edition Christmas shower gel is launched just for them this year. " What do they put in this purple gel? Wonderful lavender infusion and essential oil both do the same thing and help to relax your mind ready for sleep but also are of great benefit to the skin for they calming and help healing. Tonka adds that note of vanilla I could smell and a bit of fruitiness. Benzoin has a lovely sweet balsamic note which I think makes the toffee caramel scent and it is also calming the skin. These ingredients together help you relax and I find this is especially great for my bedtime bath.. Not so good: Lush do somewhat gloss over the less great contents. I have done a bit of research and have discovered that some of these so called natural contents are anything but. Methylparbens: see this site http://www.ehow.com/about_5453218_dangers-methylparaben.html These seem to be equally undersirable and can cause skin problems as well as possible links to male infertility and breast cancer! Sodium Cocoamphoacetate: this is a coconut based foaming agent and actually not actually harmful according to "The Personal Care Products Council, an industry trade association, found that sodium cocoamphoacetate was less of a skin irritant than SLS, even in larger doses than found in most consumer products. It was found to not irritate the eyes even in concentrations of 28.1 percent, like those found in shampoo" So in short, not all good but not all bad, so it is up to the individual person to make up their own minds whether they are happy to risk the two nastiest ingredients I have mentioned. Does it feel good and work well? I am not one for showers as I love to lie and linger in a warm bath so I use this in my bath. I love the scent of this as it is lavender and creamy sweet but so natural smelling and relaxing. The smell is not too overpowering but is also far from subtle and I find it does linger a lot like some other Lush smells but not in the bathroom more on my skin which is nice. I love the aroma as it reminds me of summer and my lavender plants. It does leave my skin clean and nice smelling and certainly doesn't dry it out it leaves my skin feeling calm and soft. I have not had any adverse reaction from this either. The other thing I like about Lush products is that when you use them in your bath or shower then the whole bathroom and our adjoining bedroom get to smell of the product as well. This 'Twilight' gel does have the same strong smell so it does seem to linger in the same way as other stronger Lush smells. Who is this product for? As Lush products are not supposed to be full of unpleasant chemicals it should be okay for sensitive skin but it is always advisable to check if something you are going to use contains anything that you are allergic to. This is a Lush unisex product meaning it is suitable for both males and females and I would agree that it doesn't have a very sweet feminine scent but some men may find it too feminine but I really like it . It is Vegan friendly and of course being Lush, nothing in this has been tested on animals. Is it just a shower gel then? Lush shower gels can all be used as bath gels and shampoos as well so if you were going on short holiday you could take this small bottle (100ml is allowed in hand baggage) and it would serve as a shower gel and shampoo and that way you need not take lots of bottles and can still travel light with only carry on luggage. Summary I LOVE this bath and shower gel. It smells gorgeous and it is a smell that lasts well after washing off. It is quite expensive but as you only need a small amount it does last quite a long time so probably works out as economical as some others in the long term. I'm in love with this Lush product and would buy again so hope they do bring it back again in the future. It is lovely and works well but the price slightly puts me off and certainly puts me off stocking up so although I do like the smell of this I won't be buying lots. Thank you for reading and hope you may find this useful/interesting. This review may be posted on other sites under my same user name. © Catsholiday
I love getting the Lush Times through my letterbox, it reminds me which products I need to buy, like the Snow Fairy range which is out now for Christmas and I can stock up on it. The other product which caught my eye comes from the new section and its yet another shower gel called 'Twilight' and it caught my eye because it is this really lovely deep purple colour and naturally I am more than excited about going to see the second part of Breaking Dawn, so it just happened to catch my attention and was added to my basket and along with other bits and pieces and I couldn't wait to try it. The last Lush shower gel I had at home was Freeze, which is from the Retro section, and it was all lovely and minty and had just run out, so I definitely needed some more. It's worth nothing that Twilight is also a limited edition product, so you need to grab it and try it before it disappears again. So Twilight is sold in three different sizes, there is 100ml, 250ml and 500ml and with each different size the price almost doubles. So you start off paying £4.25 for 100ml which I find really good because if you haven't tried a product before and haven't been lucky enough to get a sample, these 100ml bottles are perfect as a trial size and they are also the perfect size for travelling and using over night, a weekend away or a week away and you will still have plenty left. Once you have got used to a product enough to decide whether or not you will purchase it again then the bigger bottles become better value for money. I no longer hesitate to stock up on Snow Fairy in the biggest bottles I can buy so they last me most of the year. To look at Twilight is sold in a see through plastic bottle and it hosts a black flip top lid and around the middle of the bottle is a Lush label which details the product you have bought, who made it and a little blurb describing what the product will do for you and by that I mean phrases such as "Do you want to look up at the night sky and remember that you are part of it? Then Twilight will help you connect. For a good night's sleep, use this before bed". On the wrap around label itself it does actually say "Because we are all made of stars. A lavender and malt notes shower gel to calm, relax and comfort as it helps you transition from day to night" so now the latter blurb makes sense because most people think of sleep when the fragrance of Lavender is involved. The shower gel bottle is also a flip top lid which is easy to use. As the bottle is see-through you can see how deep purple the shower gel is and I really like the colour, it is almost as black as the nights sky but is actually purple and has a bit of a twinkle to it. So, once you are in the shower and with the lid of this product flipped, I say that because it is much easier than trying to open it with wet hands, all you need to do is squeeze the bottle slightly and out comes a blob of the shower gel and the first thing you will notice is the fresh smell of Lavender and if any of you have tried the Twilight Bath Bomb, then it's the exact same smell as that and one I really like. The texture of this shower gel like most from Lush is quite thick and gloopy so you only need a little on your sponge, flannel or whatever to ensure you get lots of lather and because it is quite thick in texture then you won't be squeezing the bottle and half the shower gel hit's the walls because it is so thin. Out of the shower with my skin dried off, I am can still smell the Lavender on the my skin and it is a fragrance I have come to really like because it does make me feel more relaxed and using a product with a hint of lavender before bedtime for me is a sure fire way to ensure that I am soon fast asleep. Now it comes as no surprise that Lush have a host of ingredients for this product and whilst firstly there is Lavender Oil which is a calming, relaxing oil, which combats stress and crisis and also has both a soothing and calming effect on the nerves, helps with relieving tension, depression and nervous exhaustion to name but a few of them, but on the skin lavender oil tones and revitalizes as well being useful for all types of skin problems such as acne, oily skin and eczema because it soothes and acts an anti-inflammatory. Then comes Ylang-Ylang oil which helps the skin to correct the production of sebum, so for those people who suffer from greasy skin, this is useful to you as well as those with dry skin. Like Lavender oil, Ylang-Ylang oil helps combat and relieve stress and tension also. Tonka Absolute comes next and it helps a product maintain it scent but on its own smells like vanilla and it is also a good anti inflammatory for the skin. The final ingredient is Benzion which is similar to Tonka Absolute in that it has a vanilla like smell to it, though in this product I couldn't detect it as being too powerful, but it also helps towards soothing any skin irritations and swelling. All of these ingredients are relaxing and soothing properties have also been thought to work on the mind and emotions to help relieve stress and aid sleep. Further information on ingredients can be found on the Lush website. I love this product it is smells really wonderful and it definitely is helpful after a stressful time at work, we currently have no heating as the boiler blew and I've got workmen coming in and out all day long, the phones are ringing and I'm trying to concentrate over the constant noise of drilling, welding, banging and clattering all takes it toll when you have just come back after 10 days off work and your pile is quite horrific and you don't seem to be getting much of it done. So going home and having a nice relaxing shower is the perfect end to a stressful day and indeed a stressful week because you can forget about it all (until tomorrow) and have a peaceful nights sleep.
