“ Brand: Tesco / Type: Other Fruits „
I never used to buy tinned fruits as I always preferred the fresh option but recently I have noticed that when buying fresh pears they always seem to be very hard and I love soft pears so have turned to tinned ones from Tesco. These pears come in a tin that could not be mistaken for anything else, the tin is covered with pictures of pears, and each tin has a net weight of 410g with a drained weight of 225g. The pears in this are not pear halves like many tinned pears tend to be but instead are quarters, the juice they are in is very natural and not too sweet and the pears themselves are always of very high quality, very soft and never broken into tiny pieces but always in full quarters. I enjoy these pears with double cream or with custard and I have also used them in smoothies and even in my famous pear and mandarin trifle and I get as good results with these as I ever got from fresh pears if not better. At only 45p per tin these are good value as well as a good product and they are certainly a product I would be happy to recommend so if you are like me and you are finding the fresh pears these days to be a bit hard then Tesco have the answer in the shape of these tinned pears!
I find that personally I prefer to buy tinned fruit rather than fresh. This is because it can be eaten straight out of the tin with no preperation whatsoever & also because tinned fruit is often cheaper than fresh fruit. These Pears are no exception Tesco's Quartered Pears in juice is good value for money. The price of the tin varies regularly although it is usually priced between £0.40 & £0.45. You can also buy the pears in syrup for a slightly cheaper price plus, Tesco also sell Pear Halves in syrup or juice which are slightly cheaper still. A tin of these Pears contains 225g of fruit when drained. This is just short of 1 portion of your five a day, but it is a good help towards it. This doesn't have a pull open lid so you will need to use a tin opener but you are paying a better value price for this. The Fruit inside is usually very nice. I have these tins quite regularly. Most of the time the fruit is soft is & you can slice through it with a spoon. Sometimes it's a little harder & you have to put in a bit of effort unless you're using a knife. I don't know which variety of pear they use, but they taste good. Not too sweet or sour with a good texture. They tend to have lost their crunch though with being in a tin. I would recommend this item to you if you like tinned fruit or you like to bake or cook with fruit & don't want the prep time of peeling & slicing the pears. Tesco also do a wide range of other tinne fruit in store.
The packaging These pears come in a tin, with pictures of pears all over the front of the tin. They are keen to advise the consumer that the pears are quartered and in juice. A 250g serving acts as 1 of your 5 a day. In each tin you will find a net weight of 410g and drained weight of 225g. The tin itself needs a tin opener, as it does not have the pull tab. The experience As a family we like fresh fruit and always have a lot in our fruit bowl. However we also buy a lot of tinned fruit for occasions we are looking for a quick desert for after tea. Upon opening the tin, I was happy to see that the pears filled up a lot of the tin, allowing for a little bit of settlement. I always empty the juice, and add it to our bowls with some cream. Upon emptying the contents, it was soon apparent that there was no enough for all our family, so I also added another tin too. The pears were all eaten by my family. No waste which is a good sign. I found them to be extremely soft, and they melted in my mouth. They were also nice and sweet. At only 45p a tin, they are a bargain.
